Good day all,

AMy and I are looking for a good fair sometime in June or July.  It has to be up north or in at least a cool area.

Any recommondations?

Thanks,
Jim

The Colorado Renaissance Festival runs from June 9 through July 29th, where the Baroness and I are on cast.  Rendezvous was held here last season, and all of the out-of-state'rs found it enjoyable.  More info here:

I'll second the good Baron's recommendation. We were there for RenDezvous in the first weekend in July. It was warm, but if you got in the shade, you cooled off quite easily. A beautiful setting!

They are holding it at the Sioux Empire Fairground for now, and they use a few of the buildings on site. The joust is held in an air conditioned equestrian arena, which has modern restrooms and concession stands with are open to the public. There are quite a few pavilions and air conditioned/heated buildings to get out of the sun or cold (we have experienced both there).  There are some tent vendors, but most are artisans.   It's a mid sized faire going into it's second decade.

The Siouxland Renaissance Assn, has announced they will start building a dedicated hard site just for the faire, either this year or next on an adjoining piece of land that was recently donated to them.
They have some fierce and dedicated volunteer supporters who meet and work year round  to put this on, thus it is not nearly as commercial as the majority of faires out there (especially the small ones).  The feeling is that this is an act of love by a group of theater geeks who are really into Elizabethan history.

Pssstt....There is $2.00 off gate if you come dressed in garb ^_^.

Oooo. I just read that the Eastern South Dakota Scottish Athletes  will be hosting their Heavy (Highland) Games on Saturday... at the faire. Cabers, hammer throw and sheaf toss, stone Put and weight toss (usually sand filled kegs) for height and distance.  Gate includes the games!
I expect the crowds to double in this case-But there is plenty of free, paved surface parking in front of the fair, including handicapped stalls and access.  there are paved paths throughout the site for those with chairs or scooters.

Bristol in Kenosha, WI starts the weekend after the 4th of July & runs through Labor Day.  It is a permanent faire, with great entertainment and vendors.

It's about an hour or so north of Chicago, probably less from O'Hare airport if you're flying.

Forgot about that.  Use to be our Faire when we lived in Wheeling.  Miss the Mintrels of Mayham (ahem) and Molly & the Tinker.

Things have changed, Drac.  The Minstrels of Mayham are no more.  One of the group left several years ago, and there are different members and have changed their name to The New Minstrel Revue.  Pompadour and Bradley are still in the group, and the new member is Thomas on violin.  Craig of Farrington plays with them on some of their shows   I actually like the new group better.  Their musical abilities are amazing.

Molly and the Tinker are also no more.  They are no longer married.  Tinker has a new group, Trinkets, including his daughter and another female.  They've been playing some of the smaller local faires as well as St. Louis.  Tinker has played Bristol as a guest solo artist.  He also will be at Bristol this summer, but I'm not sure whether it's as a solo artist or with Trinket.

Sterling Renaissance Festival in Sterling, NY runs from July 7 through August 19.   It is located in Western NY, right on the southern shore of Lake Ontario.  Their site is lovely, with lots of trees and shade.

I am not an employee of Scarborough Faire and to not represent them in any way.

If our son isn't able to come and stay with us for the summer, we may have to visit him and test drive Sterling...
