Hello Folks, I specifically joined these message boards to bounce this exact topic off fellow faire folk. I'll be five months pregnant for my local fair this year and I want to start working on garb that will be COMFORTABLE! I've been perusing different period paintings, different costumers blogs, etc. and I'm thinking an Elizabethan "loose gown" may be the ticket! I'm specifically looking at the "Elizabethan Comfort" pattern from Margo Anderson. HOWEVER, all of the examples of garb in this style that I can fine seem heavily embellished upper class. I volunteer at our fair as a townsperson so I need a middle class look (at the very most). The temps are also usually in the 90s to 100s so I'd like to make my loose gown & kirtle from linen (I have a hoard stashed away). So, my questions: 1) has anyone pulled off a middle class loose gown before? (Care to share photos for bonus points?) B) If you haven't worn this look do you personally think it would look good in linen with simple embellishments? C) Has anyone used this pattern by Margo Anderson? Pros/Cons? Thank you!

Yes they did have even the lowest might have a hand me down, so you don't embellish, and you make it from sturdy fabric, not velvet but wool if you can or heavy linen, it is one of the best things to wear!  Also? If you loosen your bodice you can put a stomacher in the front to help and so there are many many ways in which to do a Comfort Gown!!  Do you have the old pattern? Or the new one?

Her site shows you an example with a middle class gown and it is one of our own who created it.

Here is her new pattern and it is called "101 The Elizabethan Comfort Modification Package"

This gives even more informaton and examples, so I don't know which one you have but you can also visit and chat with Margo in FB she has her own group, people there are pretty awesome and will help you out as well!
