Does anyone know any good ways to prevent a burn from scarring?  I burned my arm at work yesterday on a hot pan.  Nothing serious enough to go to the doc, but I scar easily. Working in a school cafeteria,I get burns on the undersides of my arms frequently from hot trays, etc.  I already have one mark on my arm from last year, that's not like a raised thick scar, but more of a permanent dark discoloration. I  just got 2 more burns and don't want them to scar up too.  I've been slathering the burns with my own concoction of aloe fresh from the plant, antibiotic ointment, and mederma. Then I covered them with Second Skin moist burn pads and guaze.  I've never used mederma before because it's so expensive, but I thought I'd try it cause I'm tired of my arms getting all scarred up.   Is there anything else you would recommend instead, especially inexpensive homeopathic remedies?

I've heard lavender essential oil is good for burns.  Google "lavender burns" and you'll get lots of info.

Perhaps too late but I do swear by aloe vera 'juice' straight from the plant.  Once burned the crap out of the back of my hand on a motorcycle exhaust manifold, one HUGE blister!  Cut an aloe plant and appied the sap immediately.  Heeled quickly with repeated applications and never developed a scar.  I always have an aloe plant in the house, my living med kit.

The water gel that EMTs use is great for the burn stage, even sunburn!

Aloe, aloe, aloe. My boyfriend is a bit of a pyro (in the good sense) he swears by it, also vitamin E, you can take the gel caps and peirce them and put them straight on.

If you burn your fore arms frequently you might consider making like cloth gauntlets like Ihop employees wear, their kinda like sleeve protectors but they'll protect your arms like pot holders, just don't get em wet because that will make them useless.

Aquaphor is available at most pharmacies, my wife had a 3rd degree bodice burn at TRF a few years back and this stuff worked wonders for her.

My son is a burn victim and this stuff works great!  We had to use it very often on him.  Once it is healed vitamin E oil works great to minimize scaring.
