This past Friday I was diagnosed with fibro mialgia.  I have been suffering through months of pain since January.  I am glad that I now know what's wrong, but being 22 years old, and learning I have a pain disorder which is with you for the rest of your life is a shocking blow

I am generally an upbeat and optimistic person, but Im finding it hard to be as upbeat and optimistic, so please send some good vibes my way :)

You aren't alone. And this information, and other information you find may well help you.

I hope this is the start of many good vibes heading your way my friend !

Lady Seasan I've read a little about Fibro Mialgia. I recall reading that it's linked to inflamation. It probably has other causes too, but I believe you may be at least able to lighten the symptoms by sticking to non inflamatory foods. I'll look for some links. I think Ferret is on to something too. Less stress with yoga and it helps keep your lyph system healthy. Maybe it will help. Hope you are felling much better soon!

*my disclaimer...not by any stretch a professional, but I still think its good advice.* :)

I agree with what's been said about yoga and non-inflammatory foods.

Keep in mind that fibro myalgia is a condition. Last I heard at any rate, drs don't know the cause--only what is happening in your body. You're young so keep alert to others who have been diagnosed but whose conditions has cleared up. I had lyme disease (tick borne) and have heard that it can be diagnosed as fibro myalgia (among other things). If you're ever on antibiotics and find your pain decreasing (or that you become very fatigued), fight like the dickens with your dr to stay on them to see if it eventually clears up your problem (or see another dr or write me--but the dr I know who could help you is in Missouri). You could also ask for a lyme disease test but they aren't reliable and some drs will discount a positive test.

What I'm getting at with all of that is don't give up on the possibility of finding out what is causing the condition for you. Don't give up trying to solve the riddle yourself. Don't rely on drs to figure it out without your help and always look for good drs who will listen to you and continue to look for a solution instead of writing you off as someone incurable.

That must be hard to hear at such a young age. I'll say a prayer for you.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm 22 as well and also suffer from chronic pain, but not from fibro mialgia. It is difficult to learn that you have something that wont go away, but at least for me, it has become easier to manage over time. I've had chronic pain for about a year and a half.

It is all too easy to become depressed about chronic pain, but it helps to talk to others about it when you can. It helps lighten the load a bit. It helps to try not to let people who minimize or disbelieve the pain you are in get to you. I think most importantly for me, I've had to learn to not let the pain run my life. I can stay at home and hurt or I can go out and try to have some fun. It still might hurt, but staying home hurts too and at least I'm somewhat distracted if I am doing something fun.
