Hey guys!

I have a question for all of you. Many of you all know that this site was my very first interaction with ren faires. And then I went to my first faire and now I'm a huge rennie and all that. Well since then I've become friends with people who work at faires. YAY! And three of these friends of mine are members of a guild. (The International Fellowship of Royal Privateers) and well I sort of got begged and pleaded into joining their crew. (Actually, I'd say press ganged considering the captain already made it clear I'm a crew member! HA HA HA!) So I was wondering what you guys knew about guilds. Not necessarily this one in particular. But what does being in a guild do? Is it just a cool thing? Is there more? Perks and such? I'm defiantely curious!
You see this training pin? It could be yours. You could learn all about wenches! And that's a promise! - My friend Mike

Well there are two different kinds of guilds.

Performing guilds are actual groups of actors or historical reenactors who contract to appear at fairs as part of the cast. Sometimes they have specific focus like dancing, or military, or Scots and train their own people and monitor their accuracy etc. I believe at some fairs you have to be a member of a performing guild to be part of the cast as a street character.

Then there are the "for fun" guilds like the Wenches and the Rogues. They are made up of playtrons and participants and sometimes have organized events or get-togethers at some fairs (like Wench Walks), but for the most part those guilds do not contract to be at fair and just are loose independent groups who get together for the fun and camaraderie of being at fair.
When you die can you donate your body to pseudo-science?

The International Fellowship of Royal Privateers is one of the "for fun" guilds. Membership may be purchased from the Lundegaard Armoury through their web site http://www.lundegaard.com/catalog/guilds-c2.html

Additional information is also available for the other guilds they have available, including the Wenches and the Rogues.
