Let The Countdown Begin!

Austin has tons of food trucks/trailers selling everything from gourmet food to chicken and waffles to doughnuts to tacos.  We read a bunch of reviews and saw several on both the food network and travel channel and being foodies, we decided to try to get as many in as we could over the weekend. So, we took off down there, crashed with some friends, and went all over town from truck to truck getting whatever they are known best for and splitting it.

At night we hit  up a few wine bars, bars, the staples like Casino, Elysium, Stubbs, and so on.

I've always wanted to do that. I had a couple of coworkers who hit a couple of the food trucks out there and they said they had a great time. I might have to try it out some time and see how it is!

Thank you, to all of our Veterans here, and all who still actively serve, as well.  Without you we would have no freedoms, no homes and no peace from the chaos and turmoil that measure the lives of those who live in less well defended parts of the world.  All of you have my everlasting gratitude.  And to those who have given their very lives... Ron Perlman always gets a bum deal when it comes to roles... not that he's the prettiest of actors.    Look at his role in "In the Name of the Rose".  


My job, Rani, is an ever evolving thing... one of our close knit group put in his 2 week notice and the company won't be able to match it... although i understand they are going to try to the tune of 4 bucks a hour more not to leave(Which, in turn, ticked off everyone with more seniority).  We found out that the company thinks it's cheaper to wait until someone puts in their notice before bumping their pay to where it should be.  Not a good move considering that my department are the only ones that know what we know how to do... if it came to the other divisions trying to fix their own f**k ups, our location would fold within a quarter.  Our direct boss was told in no uncertain terms that out of the 6 of us, 4 are actively looking for jobs and the other 2 will leave at the first opportunity.  It was relayed that something along the lines of $2-3 a hour needs to be forthcoming or the whole Inventory Control group will leave.  For once, I'm in a position to hold a corporation over a barrel by their sack!  I'm not happy that it's come to this but it's been a LONG time coming!

It never ceases to amaze me that management cannot comprehend who it is that is really holding things together. I'm in a position that makes it extremely difficult to make a move. At my age, it would be nearly impossible to get another job doing what I do.

My position was reclassified a couple of years ago to a classification that is totally wrong, and I can't get it changed because there are no spots for my real job available (state job). As people have left my department, I've been given their work to do, rather than replace the worker. When we get a rare cost-of-living adjustment, it doesn't cover the increase. More and more responsibilities, less and less pay...

Every year near the end of the fiscal year, there's a scramble to spend tens-of-thousands of dollars remaining in our budget. And yet, they will not give raises. Trust me, Laird Fraser...I feel your pain.

Well, you're worth it, Fraser... and you just about kill yourself to get the job done!  If that's not of value to the company you work for, I'm sure it would be to another one...   I don't think they pay you anywhere NEAR what you should be making, particularly in an industry that's making such huge profits!!!  It's not likely that you would have too much trouble finding the same job with another company, either... and likely with much better pay and hours.  Maybe you should be polishing up your resume... just to increase your bargaining leverage, if nothing else!   


Merlin, you deserve better, as well!  This whole company disloyalty trend is crippling our nation's workforce, and I seriously doubt it will be able to support this country for very much longer, at this rate.  Salaries are shrinking while work loads are growing, and profit margins are increasing...  I don't see it ending well, at all.





Oh, and guess I just have to confess to wimping out on Mutant Chronicles... never even made it past the emergence of the Machine.  But you do have to admit that Perlman is perfect for all those "transformation" roles, where they turn him into something altogether... different.  At least this time he got to be human, right?  Well, he started out that way, anyway... I have no idea how he ended up, and I doubt I'll ever bother to find out.    heheh

Oh, the resume' has been spit shined and good to go.  We don't always battle the vicious Pipe Gnomes... some of our hardest battles are cleaning up after people that REALLY shouldn't be allowed to touch a computer let alone work for this company.  We've identified the main problem causers but the company refuses to remove/terminate them from their positions.  It's not like there isn't a willing workforce, with talent, out there... just offer some money instead of low balling people and hiring gangbangers.  There is more money in some peoples car rims than in my whole car, including the modifications I've done. 24" rims, scissors doors and chrome air horns on a beat up Impala... the rims alone(with tires) could buy a new Sportster.  We're pretty sure that some of these "workers" have other "jobs" of the not-so-legal type but still...

Oh, I wouldn't doubt it... there's a whole lot more money in "sales" than there is in actual work!!!  And who really NEEDS titanium alloy wheels?!?  I mean, really... it's not like they're going into SPACE, or anything... 



I guess the important question is, though... are there more facilities like the one where you work, close enough to you to be able to switch companies without having to relocate?

books didn't make it in time for the con, so we had no product to sell other than art prints. That being said, we had several pre-orders, sold a decent number of art prints, got invited to several conventions (including Gen Con ), and had majorly positive feedback. I go fall down now

I was just informed by my daughter that I am... a nerd.  All because I want to go to SoonerCon this weekend, and I'm not sure what Hero or Villain I could garb on such short notice, but I do know that I could come up with something out of my garb closet that would work. 

Of course, once I told her that Nerds are now the "cool kids", and that everyone knows they grow up to make millions of dollars developing video games and, uhhh... national defense systems... she has decided that maybe she doesn't mind being a nerd, herself!  She tried to argue the point at first, when I told her that she's also a nerd because she likes to dress up and go to Faire... until I mentioned the potential future millions, anyway...

I will say that I am definitely a nerd.

I read Archie comic books, go to faires, collect weird things, I watch old Hanna-Barbara cartoons, I have written 2 movie scripts, whenever Rush comes to Houston, I always have to go... The list goes on.

But you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm more comfortable with myself now than what I was when I was in high school 9 years ago. This is me.
