Austin has tons of food trucks/trailers selling everything from gourmet food to chicken and waffles to doughnuts to tacos.  We read a bunch of reviews and saw several on both the food network and travel channel and being foodies, we decided to try to get as many in as we could over the weekend. So, we took off down there, crashed with some friends, and went all over town from truck to truck getting whatever they are known best for and splitting it.

At night we hit  up a few wine bars, bars, the staples like Casino, Elysium, Stubbs, and so on.

And lived to tell the tale!  So, what all did you have, and how many of you went?  Sounds like fun!!!

Ok... I'm just about to watch Mutant Chronicles...  ka-reeeeepy!!!  :o

Four set out on the adventure.

What didn't I eat would be a better question. We started on the north end of town and worked our way south back across the river. Probably hit about 20 or so trucks. Some examples are biscuit and gravy. donuts, chicken and waffles, thai food, pizza, tacos, fish and chips, some vegan thing i didnt know what it was but it tasted good, burgers, ugh the list goes on.

Also, Penelope Cruz makes a hot pirate.

And you would have 3 good faires to attend if you lived here  :D

WOW!!!  Sounds like an adventure, all right!  It could have ended any way at all, for any of you... so I'm glad you all seem to have made it through without any ill effects!  :D  It actually sounds pretty good, in fact, particularly since you all split everything you ordered, so you didn't actually damage yourselves (like the guy on Man Vs. Food), but it does sound like you were all pretty stuffed at the end of the day...  LOL  Did everyone pick a favorite at the end?

And yes, I know there are three awesome Faires down there, but since we're closer to Scarby than most of you by about an hour, I wasn't counting that one, because it would actually be farther away from us than it is already if we moved all the way down there.  :P

Firkin... withdrawal... kicking... in!

Unfortunately, the wee one won't do well there, and Tiff starts her new job tomorrow, so... bah. Fraser, get your butt down there and have fun in my stead :D

Oh, i'll do my damnedest to get there.  It was great to see you & Tiff this weekend!  Things look good and i like the artwork your "crazy Asian" has done.  ;)

The "official" countdown starts at 99 days... gives everyone a 3 month time frame for preparation.  Hell, it'll take up to 10 weeks for my new kilt to be made.

*most of us need AT LEAST 3 months* :D

Seems about right. August is usually when I start planning what I will be wearing and whatnot.

Christmas for those of you who get to order all your new garb, anyway!  :P  ;)  It's kinda like Santa's workshop around here, once Faire prep begins, anyway...  ::)  New chemises this year, and skirts, for both of us, and I'm hoping to come up with something just a bit more... exotic... this year than I've worn before!  Gypsy is fun, but I think it's time to carry it just a bit farther...  I'm also thinking of some simple wench-wear for garb-light days when it's just too hot for all the layers.  Scally is wanting to go Gypsy this year, as well... at least once.

All this talk of countdowns has got me jonesing for Faire in a BIG way, already...  :D  Oh!  I've settled on a design for my Faire favors for this year, also, and I've already got all the supplies I need to make them, so no added expense this time!  It's always nice when I can use some of my stash instead of spending even more...

Wow... here I thought I was going to get to relax and enjoy the summer, and this morning started off with so much work I couldn't even get HERE until just now!  This is usually my first stop, but today has been a bit hectic so far...

I'd have my bike, by now, if it wasn't for faire and my gun hobby... but i need both of them to keep my sanity.

Hey, we all need hobbies, right?  heheh  Besides, as much fun as a bike is, you can't wear it in to Faire, and you certainly can't make it flip and swish like the pleats of a well fitting new kilt!!!  ;)  One of my very favorite parts of Faire is watching for that smart little swish-and-flip that tells me a man is proud of his tartan, and happy to be wearing his kilt!  :D

The guns, on the other hand... well, with the world the way it is today... that's a a little different than a simple hobby.  I mean, sure... it's fun to go blow stuff up, or shred it... but ultimately it's more than that.  The feeling of knowing that you have the means to protect your loved ones and property, and to ensure your very survival, if it comes to that, is more about security than anything else, I'm pretty sure... even if it IS fun to go blow stuff up.  :D

But the bike... now that's just pure freedom!!!  Sure, it would save a fortune in gas... but really, we all know that no one buys a bike to save on gas.  Not a REAL bike, anyway...   ;)

What qualifies as a hobby nowadays? I'm not sure I have one...
