This one was completely unsuspected (at least on my part).  LOVED "The Breakfast Club!"

Just look at all the movies he had a hand in.
Truly a genius in our time.

R.I.P. Mr Hughes.  :(

Sad, sad day.   So many of his films are long time favorites of mine. As someone who was in high school in the early 80's, and has refered to Molly Ringwald as "my dream date"  for 30 years, I really feel a sense of loss.

Rest in Peace

Awww, man!!! Seriously!!??

Much like Judy Blume got me through my pre- and t'ween years, John Hughes got me through my teenage years.
My parents used to run an "encounter group" for teens (similar to Marriage Encounter if you've heard of that) and The Breakfast Club was the (un)official movie for damn near every kid that went through one of the weekends.

That really sucks.

Dear Mr. Vernon:

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But, we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But, what we found out is that each one of us is: a brain . . .and an athlete...and a basket case.....a princess...and a criminal.
Does that answer your question?
Sincerely,
The Breakfast Club

That was classic.

Welsh Wench, yes, that line was a classic.  It ranks right up there with one of my all time favorites from Ferris Beuller's Day Off (also done by John Hughes) "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."  I love Ferris Beuller. Heck even today's teens quote the movie. Last year at my daughter's high school, as a senior prank, some kids went out to the football field in the middle of the night and painted on a brick wall a very good likeness of Ferris with this memorable quote.  The principal actually allowed the painting to stay there.  Guess he was a fan!

His films were a huge part of my adolescence. Thank you, Mr. Hughes.

Wow... just... wow.

That's one more piece of my formative years gone... and I have to wonder just how many are left at this point.
