here is a recent update on the progress of the faire

we are still planning on opening february 27th, but the year will be 2020...not true...we will swing those gates open in 50 or so days.

tickets are being shipped to us now and will be available in locations around central texas in the next week or so.  they are great looking--actually artistic.  the work of our a famed faire artist, natalia!!!

the electrical contract will be issued by monday with installation beginning immediately.  should be finished by the first week in february.

we will start trenching for water lines next week.

the clearing of the grounds of stumps is ongoing, and could use volunteers.

the log across the pond has been laid.  little john already has plans to send robin for his daily bathing.

the faire booths are receiving their facade overhauls.

the falcon stage is to be erected next week.

circa paleo's stage is currently under construction.

backdrops for several of the booths have been completed by tazz.

more are to be finished before the end of january.

kirby and sanford have been planting all around the faire, as well as completing the planters around the chapel.

moondawg continues to make our website better and better--another gift of love to sherwood.

there may be a bridge near the stone circle that will be completed before the faire--dunno.

the parking lot contract will be issued in the next week.

we need more volunteers to sow the remaining rye grass.

mike pullen continues to plan and orchestrate the future of the patron camp grounds.

tom and his crew are busy constructing the many games around and about the faire grounds.  he has also volunteered his bulldozing work to level out some of the participant campgrounds.

paul will be hanging swings in the forest trees this weekend.  (paul, i have the rope)

booths are going up everywhere.  its so exciting.

george and his team have a wonderfully designed marketing strategy.  i am told to watch the convenience stores in central texas very soon for notices of our faire.  kudos to george, the magnificent and his fellow band of marketeers. and a very special thanks to brown distributing and the budweiser sponsorship.

zane and acting company are hitting the public events telling everyone of the coming of the faire.

thanks to good folk like lynn, alex, paul, mike, et al who are the core of our volunteer base.  to all of you have have taken cards and fliers all over this land spreading the word of sherwood.

we need folk to lacquer our many signs.

tate green has planned the children's section, once upon a time, which will dazzle and amaze.

pirous--matt roberts--has joined our team as director of operations.

we will soon bring on a craft/vendor coordinator.

bastrop county will hold a public hearing on january 22nd to approve our mass gathering permit.  it will be the first they have processed.  always enjoy being the first, aye?

the county sheriff's office has been great to work with.  the faire is contracting with them to direct traffic and for security.

an ems/paramedic group out of austin, s.w.e.a.t., will be our first aid service to be located near the front gate.

louie is constructing what sounds like a quite creative italian cafe near ye old trip to jerusalem pub. and down the way a bit javier will be serving a spanish (ok, ok, mexican--but we will call it spanish) cuisine. david has a wide array of foods coming into sherwood, as well as several other vendors.

have a look at firefly studios booth.  something to behold.  and i have yet to see what rivenshire consortium, angelsword and cat dancing will come up with.  the beginnings seem quite intriguing.

along that same row will be penny's garden.  impressive work on booth construction there, as well.

face-painting and henna structures are going up.

and so much more.

we, in management of the faire, are so very appreciative of all your work, your commitment, your support, your volunteerism.

we--all of us--are building something spectacular and lasting.

thank you.  thank each of the entertainers who have signed on to be a part of this faire for reimbursement far less than what you deserve.  your gifts are gifts of love and aspirations that the faire will live up to everyone's hopes...and it is our tireless commitment to do all within our power as management to assist each of you in that desire becoming a reality!

we will make a thousand mistakes.  we will fumble and fall. we will forget. but our spirits and intentions are in the right place.

i want to share with you a bit of inside discussions between the owners of the faire--something that reveals our mission and where our hearts and minds are regarding sherwood.  so, here it is.  so months ago when george and i were courting each other as possible business partners in this grand venture, we sat and talked bout our core values.  we talked about values such as family, fun, authenticity, quality, inclusiveness.  we then had the delusional discussion of what would happen if we made any profits...and so we outlined, in order, where "profits" would go... 1st, to cover the cost of the next year's operations, 2nd, improvements to the faire, 3rd, bonuses to the faire employees, and 4th, revenues to ourselves.

so, dear friends and family, members of this wonderful and growing tribe, there it is: hold us to these ideals.  challenge us if you see us losing our way.

we are in this together and it seems a glorious journey.  we are building something greater than ourselves.  and we are building it for our children and their children.

peace and safe travels until february 27th!!!

we'll be out clearing our campsite this weekend... and i am actually NOT going to go inside Faire...

I dont know if any of you have seen the 'Making Of' special about Lion/Witch/Wardrobe, but one thing that struck me was the fact that they intentionally didnt let any of the children see the Narnia set until they were filming- so, that expression on Lucy Pevensie's face? Honest to goodness- her first step in Narnia! how awesome is that...

I have seen the start of the grounds... now... I am waiting for the surprise of the finished product!
