Title: Patrick Patterson is gone
Post by: Butch on January 18, 2012, 03:36:25 PM
Those who have been to the KCRF would recognize a frequent visitor to the lanes of Canterbury, whose name (in sooth) was Patrick Patterson.  He just passed away.

He was the gentleman with the round face, glasses, trim beard and moustache(salt and pepper), usually wearing a tricorn hat and a sleeveless jerkin.  He was a member of the KCRF Rogue's Gallery.  He could be found anywhere in the lanes, but usually posted himself with the rest of the Rogue's crew above the Cup and Chaucer during the mid-day parade.

In his mundane life, he retired from the Marine Corps after serving 20 years from 1973-1993.

I shall miss seeing his good-natured jovial mannerism in the lanes of Canterbury.

Semper Fi, my brother.

From the Facebook page A show of support for Pattrick Patterson:

We will miss you Patrick Patterson, Marine, Husband, Father, Brother and Friend.

An Irish eulogy for my friend Patrick Patterson who has passed. I feel Pat would agree:

Death is nothing at all.
... It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.

Go mbeannaĆ Dia duit.

We will see Patrick again, for it says so in the last verse of the Marine Corps Hymn:

"Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines."

Gunnery Sergeant Patrick Patterson received his orders on January 18, 2011 and has reported for Duty.

Semper Fidelis!

I actually had the privilege of being down in Yorkshire Harbour on a nite in VERY early October when there were many MANY performers down on the pirate ship stage, after closing and the dark was setting in very fast indeed, while they were auctioning and raffling things off as a fundrasier for Pat. It was so eloquent, sad, and amazing. You could almost always find him right across from the Pirate Ship in the pub, great guy. I will confess I didn't know him well more knew of him. But was logging in just to post this, and was beaten to it. I truly hope he can now R.I.P.
