Hehe. Skee is a friend of mine from Winona who was celebrating her 1 year anniversary of being the educational director at the Civic theatre Saturday night. I told her I couldn't come so I would drink a mead in her honor. And because of CKC it ended up being my only mead. :(

Oh, that. Yeah. CKC is even crappier than usual this year. No food was ready at my 10:30 break! And the soda stand had no carbonation and lemonade that was mostly water. WTH. Of course they don't want anyone who actually has their act together to compete with them. :P >:(

No way! We stopped and talked to him, we have mutual friends. That was the doublet that Anna designed - saw her sketches - you did an outstanding job on it! The beadwork alone was amazing - something like 1800 of them? Kudos to you on such a beautiful job!

The original design is Anna's. Due to changes in her job and work schedule, she would have been undable to meet the deadline in time for Faire to begin.
I did some tweaking of the design to focus on the front, back, adn sleeves of the doublet. Over 1,800 hand sewn beds in 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm. My fngers were quite bit up from all the sewing. Next year, I am going to be working with the Prince once again for more added pieces of garb. A Prince needs mroe than one set of clothes. ;)

Well, now there is a picture of me....it's just not from the best angle. When did my neck get that big? ???
OK...whoever the guy with the grapes is in magickboxman's photos would look quite well upon the arm of our Queen Bonnie if he's not already taken. Refer him to the Matchmaking for Queen Bonnie thread if he's unattached at present. ;)
The handsome gray-haired gent with the grapes? That would be "Hawkins" aka "Good Flirt" (as opposed "Bad Flirt" aka "Fitz the Toad" -One year they tried doing street bits as partners). Unfortunately for all the lassies he flirts with, he's happily married to a nice mundane lady. He can actual peel a grape "watch no hands" orally ::)

In pic IMG_6544 of your MNRF 08 third weekend. It looks like he's blowing a Mikey Mouse with really big ears. Or is that just me??? Cool pics one and all.
Wow, it totally does! I've heard fire blowers talk about the fire having it's own "soul" or seeing macabre apparitions. This doesn't bode well for Mickey Mouse...
LJ you have an excellent photo collection!
That's very kind of you, thank you! I'm just happy folks can see them along with all the other wonderful photo collections here.
lol Good lord there are alot of Photographers at Minn Fest! I thought Bristol had alot on-line!
Cousins, I'm gonna have alot to look at. lol
I worked ONE weekend at Minn Fest several years ago, it was a different experiance. Tho I'd been there as a playtron several times, working there seemed to be alittle more fun! lol
The one weekend I worked at Minnesota, it was for a Metal Sculpter for the parade and while we were waiting for the parade, we sat out on the balcany with a rubber Bat the mammal type on the end of a string and fly the bat around unsuspecting patrons. ;D

At least you can view pictures at this point. I'll make it all fancy-like when I have more time...
Awesome pics DB!!!
What a fun summer we all had!! ;D
Some really great photos Majikboxman!
Yay pictures.
For those of you who were at the Mead booth on whatever day Labor day weekend when Butch started dancing to the hammered dulcimer and then I shouted "faster" (anyone remember? it was still early in the day so there shouldn't have been that much mead...), well, I'm wondering if anyone got photos afterwards of when he came to retrieve his club. :)
Hey all :)
I always seem to be much more "photogenic" in Minnesota then anywhere else. I don't have any pics of me during this last Labour Day visit at all. If any of you caught me pretty with your magic boxes I would love to see.
I really need a boost with the ego...so no ugly/old pics please...I've enough of that when I look in the mirror.
Many thanks and much appreciated.
p.s....that's besides the phots of my big booty at Fig's bar ;)

Apperently some ladies got new bodice chillers that weekend. :o
I should have the second and third weekend up shortly.... ;D
Couple of good photos of Ibrahiem (R). Thanks!
Second week is up, third week didn't render right, so I have to redo it.... :P
Gorgeous pics, DB. My favorites are the close up flower pics, the pic of the dude flower vendor, Cory with a blue tongue, and the women's heads on stakes at the end. Those are right by my cart and I see them every day, and they're so creepy!!!
Fabulous Pictures DB!!! ;D
and Julianne, I do believe we have several pictures of you from your trip to MN... I am just being slow with getting things uploaded.... :-*
Yay! The pickle eating picture! :)
Oh come on Toar! You look marvelous with the parasol (DB week 2 pics) you could so do a FOP!
I actually tried to convince some of the guys from SS that are no longer allowed to work to dress up as FOPs one weekend with me. They thought it would be hilarious, but shot it down.
How funny would it be to see the former directors of SS, Titts, and myself as FOPs?!
I'd pay to see that!
I'd vote for it Rafe. Why did they shoot it down so quickly??? Tell em to live on the edge.
While they liked the idea, due to our status with certain management personel at Faire, they didn't want to make a "big splash" this year. Mostly wanted to fly under the radar.

how much scotch would it take Toar to do a FOP hmmmmmmm?????????
So I have a special favor to ask. I bought a new, very very shiny gown from Felix this past Sunday. I plan on wearing it on Saturday if it's nice out and feel the need to have a picture or two taken. It's the only day I'll be out this weekend and I'm managing the booth. :) And it's shiny!

hehehe Fair enough.

Hot dreads.
Thanks...made them myself out of several bags of fake hair.
But what about my ego? ;D
I had so many pictures of my cleavage taken on Saturday that I'm highly amused by it. Last year when I wrote "free soap", there were some pictures but this year there were tons. I love watching the reactions to it.

And yet the soap eaters... lol. It's written right where they're looking anyway, why do they insist on eating the soap? Hmmm... :D
Because they are too busy staring? It does cut down on the number of soap eaters when I write it there but still....
We had 40 eaters on Saturday. It's a new record.
And I'm really bad at staying on topic in a thread....
But I love everyone's pictures! Maybe next year I'll have a camera and can take some of my own.
Didn't get the camera out nearly as much as I would I have liked....but this is what I got for ya. Both were taken early in the morning from the very upstairs of Bad Manor.

Nice pics, Capn B! You got Ratcatcher! Darn, I haven't seen Carr in character all season... :(
As with the end of every season, MNRF goes out with a bang, or rather an explosion of fire...
And for the past few seasons, a new tradition was born. Many of you hear the toll of the lonely bell, signaling a final farewell to all as you leave faire. The town crier is the steadfast bell sentry, ringing the bell for a full hour after canon.

Nice pics, Sleepy. Can I steal a copy of the pirate group photo?
Nice photos Sleepy and DB. That act and shot of the bellringer is kind of solemn and sad - means Faire is over for the year.
no problem...
I went back and looked through the pics form Twig that you have DB... and you always seem to catch the "pixie" side of me. Tee hee.... *references the pole pixie picture*
Mykl stopped by the mead booth and asked me to give it a quick blessing. A dab of mead and a few words later and he was off.
As I sat upon the tailgate of my truck removing my boots, for the final time, I heard the bell in the distance. It sounded lonely. I sat there for some time as the lot emptied. I heard one last ring as I pulled my door closed to leave.
'Til we begin anew...
Thanks, Sleepy!
I loved the tolling bell.... so sad but so nice...
Loved the pics sleepy, especially the one of you and Mad Jack, like brothers from anotha motha. I miss fest already and like always wish there was just one more weekend to go.
Special Request: Does anyone have pictures of me from Friday in the red and gold outfit? I've ended up with none and had promised a finished product picture for the thread up in Sewing. Help?!?!
This year was the first year I got to catch closing gate on last day. It was awesome! Unfortunately, my camera crapped out. (Stupid frickin' batteries!!!! >:( )
Did anyone catch the Dregs singing their "End of the Fest" song a la REM?
They did a practice run during their Dreg-A-Long. It was awesome.
"End of Fest" was awesome! They need to record that at some point. ;D

During the run, my son Matthew, ran around with two friends both named Sophia. What was unique, is that all three are toddlers (2 -3 years old). Does anyone have any photos of a cute blonde boy running around with one or two girls? I was usually performing demos, so Matthew was running around with one of the nannies we utilized out at show.
I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Just a 411. The remainder of me fest phodos will be up by Jan. 3 or 4. They have been placed into me new intra-web site, it's just a question of how long the upload takes on those daze 'as it's several gig's worth of files'. On Jan 3 & 4, expect my site to only have a index page. I will be completely cleaning my server folders out then re-loading everything back up in a new file structure with a slightly different page look. This jolly plump fella' does apologize for any surfing inconvenience this may cause.

Tree Man Sculpture. Who can miss this landmark??
Been going to fest since the early 80's...Just this weekend I asked DB, "how long has that been there"? Apparently the "fog" of those early ren days is finally lifting...
So after a few emails from people asking me to remove pictures of them and comments I have seen I have just decided it best to remove all the pictures I have taken of people I know on Facebook. I am sorry to offend anyone as it was NEVER my intention. I just take pictures and post them. If I thought they were bad I would not have posted them.
I'm beginning to think that being offended is the new favorite american pastime. ::) I didn't see anyone looking awful in any of your photos. I liked your photos. I like seeing faire pics especially since I haven't been able to go and once I do go this year I want lots and lots of pictures of ME! lol. I don't much carry a camera and even when I do I end up with pics of other people, not me. I'm sorry you've had crabby-pants to cope with.
It sounds like a few people making a great deal of noise. Bah! The only time I would complain about my pic would be if I was being shown out of context and looking inapporpriate or someone was making money on my image.
Regardless of the fuss... Does anyone have a pic of me from opening weekend? That Saturday I wore a new wool outfit I wanted to show a friend and of course I don't have a picture on my camera. Ugh. I don't have any from Sunday either. That was another fun hat day. ;-)
I'm a lot like Leyla... I never get pictures of myself on my camera so I have to wait for other people to post theirs. No rush. Really, I'll wait... ::) ;)
Sleepy... you can't offend this fat guy. Atleast email the one of me to me so I can post it 'if that's ok'.
*I'm beginning to think that being offended is the new favorite american pastime.*
Leyla... I'm offended by that :P lol
I promise to not get offended by pictures posted of me. Hell, if you were to go to my facebook page, you'd see that I post some bad pictures of myself!
I'll second the Ferret on the picture thing. Personally, I think camera owners are afraid I'll break their lenses if they try to take my photo.

I doubt you break lens! I'm of the belief that I must be like a hummingbird; too fast to capture without super high speed cameras.
I accidentally deleted my post instead of modifying.. whoops..
Anyways, as I said before, I will fess up, I am one of the people that emailed Sleepy about a couple of the pics he had of me... Sleepy takes fabulous pictures as do our other well loved photogs here in MN!! and Sleepy is not the only person I have ever emailed about pictures of myself...
I was not offended by the pictures Sleepy had up, in fact there were several that he caught of me that I thought were very nice!! There were only a few that I was embarrassed by the way I looked in the picture.. Does this make me a complainer, and a crabby pants? Maybe.. but there is not a single person I know that would put up a picture of themselves that they didn't like.. Sure there are people that will post a picture and say "don't I look ugly" or "don't I look fat" when its really a good picture and they are digging for compliments... *I ramble....* What I wanted to say, was Sleepy hon, you didn't need to delete all your pics!! I removed the tags and there were maybe three that my face looked so weird in that I wanted to cry..... (like I said I embarrass easily over bad pictures, I am quicker on the delete button on my camera or Steve's (Bacardi's) than anything else)....
I love seeing everyone's pictures from fest, and Sleepy yours are among my favorites!! I hope I didn't upset you.. But I wanted people here to also know that I was one of the people that emailed you..
Muffin, I don't believe you could *ever* have a bad photo taken of you! :)
For bad photos of me, please see my facebook page.
I always hear "Oh, you don't want a picture if me. I never take a good picture". To which I reply, "Don't worry about it, I'm the one taking the picture. If it comes out bad, just blame me".
Thanks Muffin for the compliments. I may have been the quick one on the delete button this morning. It's no fun waking up to emails asking me to remove pictures (you weren't the only email muffin) and seeing negative comments (even if jokingly). I myself have made comments about myself in others photos and now I know how it feels to hear them about my photos. I suppose I could have just deleted the ones who asked or made comments. I guess I was just a bit flustered by it all.
I know the site atthefaire.com had issues with people wanting photos removed several years back. Created kind of a stir but eventually settled down. I always let people untag themselves if I put the picture on facebook (my sister has done that to plenty of ones with her in them). The knee jerk reaction is understandable though but we love you anyway Lord Fondlebottom!
:-* :-* :-*
I only took a few pictures yesterday, and as per the usual I only wound up in a couple of pictures. At least there is proof I don't always go pirate. I just realized that I have an inordinate amount of pictures of the Tortugas...weird.
They are on my facebook profile, but I'll upload them to my photobucket and or my myspace a little bit later today.
I've started uploading a select few pics on my Facebook account until I can do the bulk of the work that's ahead of me...
Thanks for the pics of my new garb, DB!
Jack you look great. I love the tights! (as in I want a pair of those, those colors are great).
During the second weekend, I noticed a couple of people took photos of my niece and me. I haven't seen them posted anywhere, so if someone here took them but didn't want to post them online, could I get them privately? I promise they will be for personal use only.
this is technically a photo . . . Terraserver has .15m resolution shots of MNRF from 4/14/2002 . . . kinda neat:
http://tinyurl.com/nmdeta
if that doesn't work, these are the coordinates:
Latitude: N 44.74665
N 44° 44' 47.9"
Longitude: W 93.60101
W 93° 36' 3.6"
they also have other times at other resolutions, (1991 at 1m) but it can get kinda grainy.
scott county GIS has some nice aerials:
http://gis.co.scott.mn.us/ScottGIS/
from same:
and bing has a pretty slick thing . . .
http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&lvl=14&style=h&cp=44.74665~-93.60101&sp=an.44.74665_-93.60101
zoom in then select birds-eye . . . it is kinda creepy.
Still playing with sat and aerial shots . . .

Any new enough to show the more recent gravel mining?
define recent . . .
the overhead aerial from 2008 (post-show, probably) are the most recent.
here is the c-gate corner:
file (http://escherblacksmith.googlepages.com/c-gate_2008_aerial.jpg)
nothing else more recent . . . not yet, at any rate.

Gorgeous. DB, I bet you could do pretty well selling prints of these out there if you had a tent or a cart...
I added another dozen or so HDR shots to my site and Facebook. You'll see some familiar faces in the Foaming Stein and The MeadBooth pics...
Great images DB, I would for sure buy prints.
More pics have been added. :)
Not sure if this link has been posted here or not, but lots of fun pictures can be found here.. ;D

Great pictures. What equipment do you use?
Thank you for the compliment! I use a Canon 5D and usually a 70-200 "L" lense.
I hated to do it, but I had to wait till I looked over the pictures of fest. If I'd done it during the run I probably would have cried for or the fun I was missing as it was happening. I loved loved loved the pictures everyone, keep em coming. I can't seem to get enough of em.

So . . . there you are.
heh. Nice photos of me there Escherblacksmith. The one of me growling looks like I have no teeth. It don't matter how much weight I lost... I still have a gut into next week. lol. ;D
Perhaps, but it certainly isn't as far into next week. Tuesday at most . . . :P
I posted a bunch of pictures on my facebook and will be putting them on my myspace tonight as well.
I finally have a fest appropriate icon...
With all those crosses you'd NEVER guess I am with Safety Services. Nope, not a chance.
Also, have I mentioned how much I love my mug? Because I love my mug.
I'm so very very sorry that it took this long to post my photos ... but I managed to catch some kind of plague at work when I returned from my festival adventure, which then turned into bronchitis. I STILL sound like something almost dead.
ANYWAYS ... Here are the best of my photos from closing weekend (really only a fraction of what I took) ... it was a WONDERFUL visit, and I can't wait until I visit again!

Wondering if anyone has pics of the Gypsy stage wagon from the SIDES. Not the area facing the audience but the actual front and back of the Wagon.
I'm doing a drawing of Belly Dancer Friend of mine who worked there and the picture I'm drawing of her was taken close to the Gypsy stage but I want to make the background look like an actual gypsy camp using the Gypsy stage wagon.

Hey Keith:
Question if you remember where was the girl in the purple dress with the puppy face painting taken? If they have a giant bowl of bubbles somewhere I would love to sit near it and teach the kids how to make bubbles with their hands *she looks like she was trying hard*... because it is so hard for me to maintain my solution and teach the kids, and make sure that everyone can get their hands in my 1 lily pad full... etc...

I honesty don't remember! I want to say that it was in the same lane as the Crown Stage, but it would be just a guess. I think that it is a shop that sell hoops/rings etc for making large bubbles and that it was a large concrete dish that the little girl was at. I just saw the painted face and that she was trying to blow bubbles. That's just one of those moments that one come's upon at Fest. I come upon a scene/situation, raise the camera, fire off a few shots and move on. That's just one of the great happenings at Fest in that no matter where I meander, there is always something to capture!

Thanks! I recognized her "character" right after we came in the front gate.
Spent most of the day wandering around trying to recognize other RF Forum characters to take their pictures as well (I knew about the gathering at the Foaming Stein) --- it would have been a good day to have a "smart-phone" to be able to check the Forums to know where to look for people as I wandered.

When I was wandering around taking pictures, I passed your shop and a lady with a basket offered me a sample of soap. I didn't take one, since I was busy with my camera and didn't have any convenient way of carrying it. I should have taken a picture of her (was it you?).
I would love to come back to MNRF and spend a weekend taking pictures of every shop and vendor at the Faire, but my vacation was over and I came home to Houston, TX on 10-Sep-10.

This picture is my doing! Ha! Those are the roses I sent to the king! (Could I steal a copy?)
Sure!
Did I catch you in any of the shots I took that day?
Take Care,
David Baldock
Sadly you did not. I think my booth is in the armpit of the narrows as there are lots of pictures around the booth but none of the booth or the people working it. That just means you have to come out again! ;)
Take Care,
David Baldock
LOL That was probably me though I don't often think of myself as a lady. ;) If there was a bad Russian accent, then it was definitely me (though I may have switched to English).
You should learn how to teleport and then you could come back. :) Or you'll have to come back next year!
Ahha! Got my photos from today up already!

Hey if anyone has any pictures of me floating around let me know I seem to have a distinct lack of pictures of me in garb.
The 400 shots that were previously uploaded to my Flickr account ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/david-r-baldock/sets/72157624814292365/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/david-r-baldock/sets/72157624814292365/) ) have now been uploaded to two Facebook albums:

Great shots Lady K! Thanks for sharing! =)

I just looked at some photos of you on your Facebook profile, and I'm sure you were the Lady I saw handing out the soap samples (unless there's someone else working with you who also wears a gold & beige dress with red/orange trim). Sorry I didn't shoot you. ;) :D I did see some good shots from DeadBishop.

Ah yes, that was me. :) Occasionally one of the owners is out and hawks but she has dreadlocks. :D I'll survive but I expect pictures next time! LOL :D
Anyone get pics of the two furries on site this weekend?

I'm slowing down in my old age. All the 2010 weekends are finally posted if you wish to take a look:

Who has pictures from the first weekend. I didn't bring one. Come on people post your pics.
If anyone got pictures of the Dueling Grounds' shows on Saturday, could you please post them? I think Blackstone would like to get some pics of his fights, now that he's benched for the rest of the run.
why is he benched?
Here are a few pictures from the second weekend. My husband was the photographer - so they are all of me. :P

:P You'd think he'd have taken at least ONE of his nieces and sister-in-law in their new Noble pretties! :(

My youngest Granddaughter, Naomie, enjoying her first visit to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Of course her Mommy just had to get her Fairie Wings. Now I will have to make Naomie a costume to go with those wings.
As usual for me I took very few pictures but instead spent most of the day people watching.
On that note here are my pictures...

I posted a bunch of photos of me.. but this one by far was the hardest to get... I look soo very big next to her, I am always surprised my size didn't scare away more kids.

This was one of the photos I submitted to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival for "The Royal Photo Contest" in 2010. I didn't win the contest, but they are using my photo on the
MNRF web site's Employment page (http://www.renaissancefest.com/MRF/employment.html). :o ;D

Me with Genta in his new Court Ensemble he designed and I put together.
Opening Day was FANTASTIC!!!!! Perfect weather all day!! Great fun!! Despite the many people who came out, there was no problems getting to the various shows. CAnnot wait to go again.

You're both cute in this shot. And Speck appears to have that look of, "Who _
is_ that person?!?" :D
Well another RenFest season is about to ascend upon us and I thought I'd try and get us in the mood. I hope that I'll be able to attend but having my predominate arm in a sling since mid May hasn't been fun. Hoping to start PT soon and be able to once again be able to photograph the wonders and above all the people of the faire! Which brings me to this point. I do the photography for myself and if I think a pic is up to my liking, I make a print and give it to the subject with the only hope that they don't chose to use it as a target on a dart board. ;) As an exercise for myself, I wanted to create a book of some of my images. Since there were no releases acquired, I only made one issue for myself so it cannot be for sale. I did request that a PDF be made so others my see it so I have included the link to the Blurb book site: http://www.blurb.com/books/8070253-portraits-from-the-renaissance-festival (http://www.blurb.com/books/8070253-portraits-from-the-renaissance-festival)
Just hoover the mouse over a lower corner of the book and click to reveal the pages. Let me know what you think.
Hope to see you all again this year! Until then Hazzah!
I think ascend is different from descend ..... makes a big difference. either way it was a good article.
