Title: A new gown for the Queen
Post by: Ladyfair on August 12, 2008, 12:44:50 AM
Our most talented Flidias is designing and creating a most wondrous gown made just for our Queen.
Many hours of drawing and planning are going into making this unique and like no other seen before.
Now that the Queen has chosen her fabrics and colors this gown creation is now taking form.

Next shall be the choosing of the jewels and trim, then the beading party can begin.

::)

I have to say, I am extremely excited.  It took us - Ladyfair, Lady Ann, Flidais, her lovely (and very patient) daughter and me - many hours of shopping both in store and online to find the truly spectacular.  But I think we have located something quite stunning, and I can't wait to see - and wear - the final product!  Check here for updates!

Will this new lovely dress also be accompanied by a new scepter to fend off the advances of the King of Spain and other suitors?  If it is as lovely as you speak, you will require a larger security force to protect your honor, your majesty!

Alas, the King of Spain will not be attending this year, but Raleigh is a new member of our cast and I'm sure he will bore her ear off with potato talk.

I suspect certain queens could show up in burlap and twine and look regal.

You still scare the skittles outta me. I love the Pavand (sp) and when I said it and our queen gave me the look of death I had to remind myself that she really can't cut off my head. LOL!!!!

A little birdy has been singing in my ear about your lovely new gown. Though I've not heard the final choice of fabrics. I cannot wait to see the creation! Bet it will be just scrumptious!

I can't think of anyone that deserves a new gown more than our Queen!

Big Security will be there throughout the season, as Captain Saffron does come up around my shoulder, and I will be there personally on the Final weekend, the Biggest security of all. :)

Hey Goliath!!  Wenchie told me to say HI to you if I saw you at Faire.  Since we're going Opening Weekend and it sounds like you're going Closing Weekend, I'll just say HI now.  So, HI!!

Sorry Wayward Wench, ;-) but the red velvet is still in good condition and I wear it especially on cold days, as it is very warm... and VERY VERY heavy.  Just ask Flidais, Lady ann and Ladyfair who all lifted it the other evening.

This new dress is all about ER's often spoken thought "Too much is not enough!"

And the Pavane!  Ack.  Elizabeth hates that dance because it is boring.  One can often see her yawning through the dance, hence it's ending very quickly to move on to more spirited dances!

*chuckling wickedly, the succubus wonders whether our good Queen remembered to pack the new bloomers and whether they will look nice under the new dress*

*snip*

I could help with that Your Grace. I would be happy to take the "shineys" off of it and make it lighter.  Your visage shines so brightly you have no need of all that "heavy" gold lace.

You thinnk you can't keep up with me now?  try hauling that 50 pound garment on your bod all day! ;-)

Perchance You have spoilt her with all those shiny bits.

Or simply dazzled her beyond wit.

Come to think on't, the second more handily appears to be the way of it.

I reckon, Our Most Graycious Queen, that WW would have little trouble carrying e'en the heaviest garments if she had but one room in the Tower to pace.

*Pondering a few Madness modicums for Final weekend*

*A shiny tin Wayward Wench puppet so she can be distracted by her shiny self*

*A tin Duke Fairfax with Queen Dress and Wig/Crown accessory for the days he stands in*

*If the Pavane is announced at Closing Weekend, Espressos all around for the Musicians, then conduct them myself to play the Pavane at 6 times normal speed, minimum.  That should make it less boring. ;)*

*Looking forward to seeing photos of the new dress to test my tinsmithing skills*

Soooo... noone has asked the questions yet...

What color is it???

Will it be done before our gracious Queen leaves us for the Southern Shire so that we can all see the wonderful work of Flidias and the beauty of our Queen???

I am leaving the color as a surprise, although some folks saw it this past weekend at Ladyfair's booth.  Let's just say there will be no chance of missing it... In fact, you might be able to see me from half way across the site.  No more hiding from the gaurds!

If all goes as planned, it will be debuted here in the next couple of weeks.

Indeed, Jon, the purple gown is my oldest.  Only worn when it is raining or muddy, and as Sunday started with rain, on went the purple dress.  I guess it has become a weather indicator to people who know! ;-)

My wife has been saying "I told you it's not her new dress" since I told her it was the new dress on Sunday.  :-\ Ok, so it's not new and it's only a "bad weather" outfit. But I still think it's cool and looks great.  :)

Jon, I remember seeing that dress in prior years, but I agree with you the colors and lacework make it 'fit for a Queen' (shameless) :) .

I posted here before I saw the Pic o' the day thread that canonman started.  Very nice shots from youpself and canonman. The pic I posted here was of the parade, when I brought the lens up on HMRM she was enjoying a pickle!! I couldn't help but laugh as she flashed that smile in the pic after removing the pickle!!!!

Cheers!

Our youngest daughter really likes the pearls sewn onto the sleeves. It gives it the royal feel. She wants to spice up her own gown with things like that.

Pearls are ALWAYS the way to go when spiffing up a 'Bethan gown.

/pouts about the stinkin' contrast fabric issues for da Queenie's new gown.

Sorry to hear about the delay - that can be so very frustrating.

I love doing the beading.  It can be so relaxing.  And so much fun and excitement to watch it all come together.  A way to make a plain fabric something so very special.  Though, with our beautiful Queen, it doesn't matter what the fabric is, she makes it something special just by putting it on!!

I agree, our queen would look regal in a garbage bag.  Luckily for her, she has some phenominal seamstresses making her dresses that put her in a whole different league!  Thank you all for all that you do!
