Thanks for the tutorial FaeGuardian. With the move we haven't had time to write one yet.
Edit. See this thread (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=368.0)for a tutorial on posting pic to this forum.
Awesome! Thanks for the tutorial!... Now Renfairphotographer.........Tell us how you got your photo to show up in your profile. I've been unsuccessful so far.
Yep, pretty much beat me to the punch. I had a great tutorial on the old site.... :'(
Before I was laid off I frequently had to provide step by step instructions for customers to use some difficult software. As a result I have a habit of giving long replies to simple questions.
I've also been unsuccessful in getting my pic to show up in my profile. What's the secret?

THe secret is it's not possible to have a picture in your profile. Just one of the differences between this new forum and the original.

OK so then how did you get the R/F shield to show up under you user name?
You can put the IMG Code for the picture in your Signature box and that worked for me

Actually, according to the forum guidelines, we're not allowing pictures/images/graphics/links in the signature thread. With the next update there won't be a signature thread anyway, so it would be a futile effort anyway.
Sorry DB......when I read the guidelines I did interpret that rule to exclude a personal pic...did not mean to break the rule.

No worries. We're working on a solution, just so you know!

Awe but I like the signature line.
Still having trouble posting a pic for my profile.
I don't have Photobucket but use Myspace and Renspace. It worked on the old site but when I paste the URL the image doesn't show. Any suggestions..other then Photobucket (its not that MAC friendly)
I know that the site is finicky if you're using a photo from MySpace. If you don't use the correct image URL, or if your account is set to private, it won't show.
So what I have to open a photobucket account to up load pics? Photobucket is not that MAC friendly.
And I did try posting the URL as instructed, and it still did not take. No my acct. is not set to private. Any other suggestions???

the photo host doesn't have to be "Photobucket"
i inquired with a MAC user friend and www.flickr.com was suggested

I think there must be something wrong with the MySpace link you're using. I tried loading the URL in a separate browser window, and all it does is take me to MySpace's home page.
What's the trick to posting an avatar pic without having it distort? I lived with my last pic out of sheer laziness, but I'd really like to learn how to resize it properly. Thanks.
When you go to crop or re size your picture it has to be a perfect square or it will distort. ;D
Thanks Bill.... I figured that part already....
My point is how do you do that without it distorting? All of my picts are rectangular. Is there an edit button that smart resizes it?
Is this a really dumb question?
What are you using to resize your pics?
Because if all your pics are rectangles, your going to have to somehow crop your pics into a perfect square, with some kind of editing software possibly.
If it's not a perfect square you'll get distortion.
As far as an "edit button" goes I don't think the site itself has any thing like that...
And no it's not a dumb question, just a little hard to explain, it took me a little while to figure this out myself! ;D
ok so i'm doing everything the tutorial said.
i go to the website (picasa listed pictures) and get the direct link and put it in between the img and nothing???
what am i doing wrong?
When you go to Picasa, just right click on the picture and " Copy Image Location " and paste that between the img] and [/img.
Hope that helps. ;D
what does the code the give you look like? post it here and we can figure it out.
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ZLQ1zJOWhZ3qQ_a0srcIQQ?feat=directlink is what is given
the "copy image location" worked thank you NoBill Lurker
Thanks NoBill Lurker.

1. Click on your name, just to the left of your post.
2. It brings up your profile, on the left side you'll see a sub-topic
Modify Profile3. Under
Modify Profile click
Forum Profile Information4. Once in your profile information, in the middle of the screen, you'll see
Profile5. Under
Profile you'll see
I have my own pic6. Click on the
dot to select that you do have your own pic
7. *****You'll have to upload a picture to Photobucket http://photobucket.com/ (http://photobucket.com/)or Imageshack http://imageshack.us/ (http://imageshack.us/) or another hosting site. I don't think this forum has a reservior to host pictures.
8. Once you upload your picture to one of the sites above, find the URL that links directly to the picture file, for example it will read something like this...(www.imageshack.net/blah-blah/blah/mypic.jpg)
9. Copy and paste the entire URL into your profile screen where it says
I have my own pic10. Page down to the bottom of the screen, click the button
Change Profile , it may prompt you for your
Current Password, if so enter it and click
Change Profile again.
11. Dance a dance of victory!

The avatar is different than post in a thread.
profile pics need a link like this http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b275/renfairepic/events/cross-icon.jpg
so for photobucket copy the HTML code
<a href="http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b275/renfairepic/?action=view¤t=big3184304.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b275/renfairepic/big3184304.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Then paste it in a text editor. Then remove the unwanted bits. saving only the section after img src="
leaving you with
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b275/renfairepic/big3184304.png
The rest of the forum needs [] IMG tags
(http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b275/renfairepic/big3184304.png)

As a Flickr user, I hope anyone else that uses them knows their guideline for posting pictures outside of that site. If you "physically show" your pictures from Flickr on a site (such as this one), your picture must serve as a link back to your photostream/set.
To do this, use this command - [*url=XXXX][*img]####[/img][/url]
1) Remove the "*". They were placed so you could see the full command. Note the use of brackets, not parenthesis.
2) XXXX=photostream url (I tend to actually use the one from a specific photoset)
3)####=photo url <--- To obtain this, make sure you're logged into Flickr and looking at one of your pictures. Above the photo, one of the options listed is "All Sizes". Whichever size you click on and the photo reappears in that new size, the url will appear underneath the photo. Each size has its own url.
Click on the photo below to see what I mean. The photo url I used is for my "large" (not original) photo.

You should have been directed to my photoset from the 2009 Central Coast Renaissance Festival, rather than my entire photostream.
