This announcement was made to the VARFCast list yesterday, but I know some people here are not on that distribution list. Candy, the greyhound who did so much during her time with Her Majesty's Hounds to promote greyhound adoption and awareness of canine cancer, passed away on Thursday after a nine-month battle against osteosarcoma.
Scott has a tribute video up on YouTube:

So sorry to hear that. She was a wonderful lady who blessed each of us with her courage. :'(
Candy will surely be missed by all of us at the faires where she attended and promoted greyhound adoption and canine cancer awareness. She showed us what courage is all about. Now when I see the clouds skirting across the sky and see the rainbow after the storm I will know she is there showing us how to fly. Thank you Jennifer and Scott for sharing her with so many friends.
I for one will definitely miss Candy myself. Her presence, her charisma, and most importantly her blazing speed she would show during a coursing of the hounds.Pam you are right Candy did touch alot of lives and did leave behind a huge legacy that everyone will remember from this day forward.Even though she is gone I promise you all she will never be forgotten.Rest In Peace Candy..........We Love you.
Candy did indeed touch so many lives and I will never forget her last run or the first run I saw her make after her operation. Even with 3 legs Candy was faster than most! She showed us all that there is no reason to stop living to the fullest and to enjoy each and every day the best you can. She was always full of love and energy even when she wasn't doing too well. She will be missed and has left a hole in many hearts with her passing. :'( :'( :'(
Glad I got to see her for one last season. I say the racing pen for HMHounds needs to be named in her honor in some way that involves her but doesn't confuse the paytrons with the the treat-variety of candy.
Something like "Three Legged Track" (although the track is only one way in it's use for the hounds).
Just a thought.
Many warm thoughts to the MacDonalds as well for giving Candy such a wonderful forever home, providing her with dignity as well as with love as her time here drew to a close.
Tears for a friend
One who runs with angels
Who blessed us here on earth
Who never swayed or faltered
To show what life is worth.
Through times that would test the best of us
And make the toughest fall
She never let life slow her down
And still out ran us all.
As we smile in memory
And remember our three legged friend
We thank her for the times we shared
And in our hearts, she races again.
God bless Candy.
I've got some great pix with Candy from VARF and her coursing at NCRF on my myspace page. (I'll try posting them later, I can not remember how to log in to my photobucket account and now it's kicked me out.) For those who would like to see them now...you will need to add me as a friend. (Sorry 'bout that however it's for caution's sake.)
