It is with great cheer and enthusiasm that today I announce the location for Renaissancefestival.com's 2012 Rendezvous!
And the location is...
Carolina Renaissance Festival!
It was a difficult decision to come to, and after much deliberation, we decided upon CRF. We have a great team of R/F.com members ready to take the reins for the planning of our next great get together!
Heading up the planning and organization will be Lady Mikayla!
Congratulations CRF! I know you'll do a great job of planning, and everyone will have a wonderful time. ;D
Hopefully a date will be set soon, so we can start making plans. Have been wanting to attend this faire and now here is a good reason.
Congratulations Carolina and Lady Mikayla.
YAY Congratulations
Congratulations to Lady Mikayla on a successful campaign. I look forward to helping you welcome R/F and the Renn World to Fairhaven in 2012.
Congratulations, Carolina! Just an eight-hour drive ... hmmm ... already hatching plans to attend.
Congratulations to Carolina!
Huzzah! That sounds like a winner to me! We look forward to meeting our friends in the east!
Dates please! (And I'll have to ponder extending my stay to hit the beach!)
The South, rose again! LOL! ;)
Congratulations Carolina! :)
I hope you have a fantastic rendezvous!! ;D
Huzzah and congratulations, Carolina!
The Baroness and I tentatively plan to make the long journey from the Colorado Court to enjoy Fairhaven's hospitality. We look forward to it immensely.
We may even join Ms. Trish on the beach, post hoc.
Beach? In Charlotte?!? ???

Dates please! ....
Sorry, Tish. I'm married! I'll have to ask Nim...
Ummm guys? The beach is at minimum four hours from Charlotte. Now if you're interested in mountains, those are available in just about 90 minutes (depending on how fast you drive and where). Nice mountains, nothing like the giants in Colorado, but pretty waterfalls, nice trails and great sunrises and sunsets.
My apologies...I did not mean to imply beaches in Charlotte but at the coast. And maybe Myrtle Beach at that.
Huzzah and welcome all to our home faire! We can only hope we will actually be living in our home when the weekend arrives in order to greet all of you. I didn't even know about Rendezvous until a dear friend let me know about it and to discover it is coming to Charlotte. Hooray!!!

T'was entirely my pleasure, Lady Goodhaven! It is my second fondest hope that the Baroness and I will have you and your consort as guides on our pilgrimage to Fairhaven. My first is, of course, that you and your consort will grace our beloved Larkspurshire (Colorado) with your presence this season.
As for Ms. Trish's beach fantasy ... I can assure you that Charlotte is a lot closer to the nearest beach than Larkspurshire!
Huzzah!
Charlotte is also only 2 hours away from the highest point on the Blue Ridge Parkway—Mt. Pisgah—and a beautiful spot to spend the night—the Pisgah Inn.
My son and fiance live in Asheville....I think I will talk to him and see if he is up for all of us going. :)
Ah! Then I can give you a hard time in person, Mairte! :P
This is wonderful news! HUZZAH!
I'm excited! There are soooo many wonderful forum members who call CRF home, and I can't wait to meet them, or greet them anew!!! I hope the dates will coincide with a time that we are able to make the trip!!!
Huzzah! Can't wait! Beach or no beach! ;)
Ok...I'll give you time to plan a little bit but the questions I have are:
Is there a Host hotel? If so what's the name and what's the address? (I saw in the "pick me" that it was the Microtel for this year but I never saw which one and there's several in the area. And it's a little disconcerting that the Microtel by the airport w/ airfare came up as 666. ;) ;D :D)
Is there anyone willing to host/house out-of-towners or play Driver?
If I need to mail my sharp-n-pointy items is there anyone willing to get and hold them for me?
I'm sure I'll think of more...I'm just hoping to be able to take the time off for it...that's been my downfall for all the others except TRF and Scarby. But I should know by April.
Thank-thee all for the well wishes!!! We are very pleased to be hosting the 2012 Rendezvous which will be held... All Hallow's Eve Weekend October 26, 27 & 28th!!! More information forthcoming!!
Well then that settles it...I won't be making it this year as that is the ONE weekend that my group comes out in full force. Sorry, but ya'll have fun for me.
Is that a threeday weekend or a Friday night meet n greet?
I'm in a similar sitiuation as Lady Jessica, that weekend I'll be at the Alabama ren faire. Which means I can't make it although it wa s doubtful I would have anyway with the new addidtion. He'll be one around then.
Sorry folks, that automatically is ruled out. All Hallows Eve is one of my big weekends at home faire and pretty soon after DragonCon. :(
I think that may coincide with fall break, which will make it even easier on me. Historical averages for temperature look great—upper 60s—which will be welcome for hot-blooded wizards. I'm already excited! Actually, both of us are! Nim's sis and nieces are only about 3-1/2 hours away... I have a cousin nearby somewhere that I haven't seen in 20 years...
Congrats Carolina! Huzzah!
The Baroness and I are waiting with baited breath for the answer to the query from renfairephotog. But, either way, we're planning to come. And I'm willing to bet that a goode tyme will be had by all!
Huzzah! The beau and I might be honeymooning at that point in time, but as our plans haven't yet been made it might be possible for me to work in a trip out. Plus, my in-laws are planning to move to Asheville next year which I might have heard is not too far away? We could potentially combine a trip to see them with a trip to Rendezvous. :)

Is that a threeday weekend or a Friday night meet n greet?
CRF will be open on Saturday and Sunday as usual. There will be a Friday night meet-n-greet aka icebreaker aka let the dogs out aka another Guinness please. Projected plans see this happening in the CRF area (think Huntersville/Corenlius, NC) of Exit 25 off Interstate 77. Lady Mikayla is handing out assignments to her team now and as soon as the tenative plans become facts we'll publish them in the appropriate thread. BUT a Friday night meet-n-greet at a local pub is a given.

By Google Maps, it is only 123 miles from the heart of Asheville, NC to CRF. The majority of that is via interstate and an easy drive! Asheville is a neat little city with beautiful mountains. If possible, and you have the time make sure you see the Biltmore House. Yes its a wee bit expensive, but its worth it.

Oh bummer, that could possibly be our closing weekend! We will just have to wait and see. :(
If my dad... Lady Kett & Sidekick and the Baron are all going... count the Merlin Clan in. At least 3 of us.... the oldest food eater may have class. (insert joke here)

Quick answer: Charlotte, North Carolina.
All major carriers but we are US Airways primary hub. Southwest goes into Raleigh which is about 2 hours away, but we do get Air Tran and i understand the two are merging, not sre when and if that helps any.

Ooooo, considering we will be coming from TX this makes me wonder if I couldn't combine some vacations and get back to MDRF one weekend and Rendezvous in the next. Only problem is it's in the middle of my busy season. I shall have to work to get my minions up to speed to see if they can live without me. It's a nice dream, regardless LOL!
I am so unmotivated for work today and would much rather plan my 2012 faire season plans. :D
For some reason messages is not letting me type responses... weird. Anyway, tentative plans are meet and greet Friday night at the Galway Hooker in Cornelius between exits 25 - 28 off I-77. Saturday night dinner will be disclosed at a later date but will be in the same general area. Hotel arrangements are currently being looked at as well.
I realize the date may interfere with plans at other locals however the first 2 weekends were out for various reasons including NASCAR. The 5th - 7th weekends of CRF I am not always available. The 3rd and 5th weekend CRF uses an area of the shire for theme specific weekends. I am eyeing this area for our group picture as well as Musical Men!
So that left us with the 4th weekend All Hallow's Eve!
We look forward to welcoming those who can attend... bring your Festival spirit and have fun!!!
Would love to make it but I'm Clan McShuggenah's camp cook for AHE. The Merlins & Lady Kett will have to represent Texas...
Lady Mikayla, please feel free to contact me if you want any ideas or just support! Having done this at TNRF with Welsh Wench a few years ago, you have help if you need it...It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun as well. I'm sure you'll do a splendid job!

Love it Wenchie! :)
From what I heard, the weekend we had Rendezvous in TN set a record in beer sales at faire.
Not to mention the infamous Guinness kegs at Bluesboro. ;)
Thrilled that my new home faire got Rendezvous!! I'm so excited; this is going to be awesome!! Is too early to nominate the Galway Hooker?
We're going to have hookers!??!
Galway Hooker is a pub named for an Irish ship. All the pub's building materials were brought over from Ireland! It's first year ALL the staff that worked it were here on work visas from Ireland. Maureen, the head barkeep herself is from Ireland. http://www.galwayhookerpub.com/
Yes Nailin, we will most certainly have one night at GH! :)
I'm sure neither Faire nor the Galway Hooker would mind setting a record for beer sales! ;)

All kidding aside, Nimue and I are very much already looking forward to RenDezvous!
I'm so excited that rendezvous is gonna be at my home faire!!!!! Y'all will LOVE CRF!!!
Well, well. Charlotte, NC eh? We should probably be there; I mean, if Lady Kett is going...?
AA going bankrupt may seriously change plans. Merlin Clan is on Stand Down Procedure right now.... we will re-con the area and meet with logistics and alpha bravo to determine the new plan. Repeat.... Merlin Clan ... stand down. Awaiting further intel from other sources.
Unfortunately, I don't really see us being able to make it that far at that time of year. 1000 miles is at minimum a 2 day drive, and maybe a bit more with a restless renlet, and I just can't keep Scally out of school for quite that long a stretch... I'm afraid we're going to have to miss this one, as well. :'(
Oh Rani, that's so very disappointing!!
I know... I would LOVE to come out and hang with you, hon... and all the other wonderful folks who will be there, as well! There's just no way we can get away for what would be at least 7-8 days at that time of year. Not even with a 4 day weekend like we just had. Not to mention the gas expense, and lodging. RENdezvous just seems to be a bit out of my reach at the moment. :( I know you'll all have a truly wonderful time, though!

Its been several years since the Spicers had chance to visit Carolina (the last year Lolly played queen), so we are looking forward to attending as well.

Hmmm... sharing?
Good morning all,
Lady Mikayla (Rendezous 2012 Organizing Lead) has asked me to coordinate group tickets for the 2012 event at Carolina.
So by way of introduction, Welcome! Like many on the boards I answer to several names, but most know me as Brother Timothy or Hibernian. At Fairhaven (CRF), if you need me, check M'Crack Corner by Lancer's Pub and if I'm not there someone will gladly point you in a direction. Hopefully the right one.
Yes, group tickets will be coordinated, ordered, and available for pick up at the Saturday morning tailgate. After Saturday's tailgate all ordered tickets will be available at the Will Call window. Adult group tickets are $17.50 per day. Children up to the age of 12 will be free that weekend.
As we get within the six month off barrier, a single ticket info and request thread will be established. Past experience tells me when too many threads are being addressed someone gets lost in the web. The Carolina Committee will also have a PayPal account set up for group ticket sales, you pay when you ordered. That should also ensure no one is lost and no one gets stuck fronting the cost.
I look forward to seeing you all in Fairhaven.
Such delight to see so many making plans to visit CRF next Fall! ;D
Nothing set in stone yet, but I think I may be able to swing this one! Already requested the time off from work, now if finances allow it's a go (fingers crossed). I love CRF, can't wait to see my Carolina cousins again! Mikayla, I know you'll do a fabulous job coordinating! HUGS!
I hope so, Athena! My wife and I would love to see you again. We're already putting aside a little each month, and I've asked the coordinator of an event where I regularly act on Halloween for Halloween 2012 off.
I'll echo Lady Mikayla's comment - 'tis indeed such a delight to see so many making plans to visit CRF next Autumn! ;D

Dang, where does time go?
Well I can make no promises this early on but I will put it on the schedule and see what develops. the last time we went to CRF, we stay at a camp ground in Denver NC not CO. It was not to far away and there is always the possibility I can find one closer. The grounds were quite level so if Wenchie comes I did not think I would need my iron lung, but with Ms Trish wearing nothing but a hat and bells I may need it after all.

Tis quiet upon this page... hath the discussions moved to another thread? Lord Spicer and I need to make concrete plans! We're dying to be officially engaged of course ::)
I think everyone is concentrating more on closer events, such as the opening of Sherwood Forest in three weeks.
We have a little bit of time before RenDezvous. It is, after all, 278 days, 16 hours, 33 minutes, 15 seconds until cannon opens RenDezvous
And perhaps an event in Scarborough dear Merlin?
What's happening there?!?? Oh yeah...that!
*Makes note*
Must pick up a good sturdy flogger for a wedding gift.....for Nim......
Wedding gift?!? Jeez, LD...about 40 years late, aren't you? But... flogger, huh? I guess it's about time we got into some M&Ms
Will there be the introduction of new colors with that present? ;D
I know I'm getting a little antsy to start making plans. Did you know airlines won't even quote airfare this far out? (or at least two weeks ago when I looked last)
I'm going via Homer, the Odyssey.
I won't fly anymore. I can leave the house and drive to Memphis (2 hours) faster than I can drive to the airport, find a place to park, check in, get through the TSA strip search, wait for the plane to load, taxi out, wait for clearance, Clarence, and fly to Memphis, wait for an open gate, disembark, wait for my luggage (assuming it made it onto the plane in Little Rock), go wait for the car rental...
My son lives in NYC area. The normal total travel time is over 10 hours with all the stops and BS... I can drive it in 18.
I'll be driving to Charlotte. Nim's the only one to ever strip-search me in the car, and at least that was fun.
I *LOVE* road trips, MtE, but this one (MN to NC) is a wee long to do just for a weekend getaway. I have made the trek multiple times with the fam though.
I can understand that, Trish. That's about 100 miles more than we drove for RenDezvous this year, but I've gotten into the driving mode, which is totally out of (my previous) character. I used to hate to drive more than a few minutes.
PS: Looking forward to seeing you and MG again!!
I just got some airline quotes through orbitz. Was just a quick check, I did not take it all the way through the process.

Lord Dragon was able to find some via Orbitz. I pulled up southwest airlines (mostly because I like free checked luggage!) and they will still not quote that far out. We still have plenty of time, Lady Spicer!

Speaking of Air Fares and Southwest: Just this week in the Charlotte newspaper, it was related that with the purchase/merger of Air Tran by Southwest, Charlotte once serviced by Air Tran would be serviced by Southwest! Unfortunately the article stated Southwest did not speak of how many or which routes or time frame.
Still we have time before tickets must be purchased! Keep the fingers crossed for better fares.
I wait and will keep looking then! :-\
I know we have months and months to go, but any new or important info for us? Like recommended hotels perhaps? I like to book things early. :)
I was just yesterday looking at nearby facilities, and checking where the Galway Hooker was in relation... I guess great minds think alike. I, too, would like to hear some recommendations.
I saw airfare for $320/person last week with Delta - is this a good price (from Mpls - nonstop)? I have no clue!
I am in no way a part of the planning committee - but I as I have the "plan early" bug, here are my suggestions. These are on the 77 side and very near the Hooker. There is a grouping of hotels on the same exit as the faire, but the town is Huntersville. Sleep Inn, Courtyard, and Candlewood Suites. Personally I think the Sleep Inn is a well kept secret (well was until I opened my big mouth). VERY clean and reasonable.
On the other side of 77 is a Comfort Inn and a Holiday Inn (also Huntersville) - both acceptable, but for the same price across the way and closer to the Hooker, my money is on one of the above.
As Hibernian said, there are definitely cheaper places, the Microtel at exit 28 (I believe that is considered Microtel Lake Norman) has historically offered great fairegoers rates; and it may be that Lady M is going to consider working with them for the Rendevous.
Lastly, there is a Residence Inn in further out, even closer to the Hooker, but I am not familiar with that one - I have stayed at all the others at one time or another.
But, now that I have made MY reservations - you could always make reservations now at one of these; and change them later after Lady M has announced the host hotel(s).
I cannot WAIT to meet you.
I looked at Candlewood... their prices are insane! I may stick with chains that I have frequent sleeper with, may even be able to stay free for the duration. If gas continues to rise, may
have to stay free!

If that included everything, and non-stop, doesn't sound
too unreasonable, but by the time they add baggage charges, boarding charges, disembarking charges, depth charges, peanut fee, airport use fee, security fee, federal tax, state tax, county tax, city tax, thumb tacks...it might be cheaper to drive.
Sleep Inn is currently 70 with a AAA or AARP - and 65 prepay (which I won't do). PM me what chains you are a frequent traveler with and I'll get my dogsbody on it.
Cheaper to drive perhaps - but I don't have an extra 2 days this year to do it!
Trish - where do you want to stay? I will look into my RCI points towards a hotel!
I was actually being somewhat facetious, Lady Spicer ;) but, Nim and I have gotten to where we prefer taking the extra time. We're also still miffed about having the TSA stealing things from our luggage. I won't put up with the aggravation of flying anymore.
I always forget about the thievery these days!
So is the countdown on for you 2?
Let's see... which countdown? Several in progress at the moment: Scarby Open Weekend, Scarby RenNew Weekend, Scarby Close Weekend, OkRF & Spirit of Magic tucked in there somewhere between 2 and 8 of Scarby, then there's RenDezvous which is, by the way, a mere 241 days, 8 hours, 55 minutes, and 45 seconds away...
...and counting! :D
Well, I am working on the countdown to your renewal! Any more news for us peeps attending?
Happy Day!
Got a note today about the need to use expiring points from my US Bank Flexperks rewards (they ended the program). Had enough points in there to get 2 airline tickets to NC at $350 and a free rental car!
So excited to have things falling into place for this fall!
Now to see if there is a way to get our hotel for free. ;D

Well done! That's quite a deal!
Looking at the Hilton site, the Cornelius NC Hampton can be had for minimal HHonors points... 15 minutes from faire, but it would mean "free" lodging for the weekend, and still have plenty of points left for other trips. It's a few minutes further away from the pub, but that's fine... Anyone familiar with the area? Anyone else planning to stay there?

got ya in the other thread, but for those following this thread, the area is safe and the usual mixture of hotels, fast food and small shopping areas you would expect off an interstate exchange. Its a nice central locatoin that will get you anywhere you wish to go in a nice easy drive. If its available for the points I would suggest you go for it!
So... Molden & I have been working with a local artisan to design and create this year's Rendezvous pin!
Tada... the finished product! The pin is 2 1/2" X 3". The pins will cost $10 and can be picked up at CRF. A donation will be made to the Hounds of East Fairhaven for each pin purchased.

Thank-thee all! I am very pleased at how the pins have come out. It was exactly what I had in mind.
Please keep a few things in mind when ordering pins. Cheque, certified cheque or money order only are accepted. I don't recommend mailing cash. Please plan to pay for your pins upon ordering. Putting it in the mail by the end of the week that you order it is fyne. :)
Orders will be accepted till October 10, 2012 to give the artist time to create them in time for Rendezvous!!! :)
Thank-thee!
Lady M
I'll take two.
Can myne have Gio on it? ;)
I am pretty sure Gio would be happy to stand on it for you! LOL!
We can just consider the pin IS Gio... afterall he will be a HOEF ambassador this year... there will be no living with him now. ::)
By the way all - The Gio I refer to is the Handsome Gent in Lady Mikayla's Avatar here on the Forum. And he's only gotten More Distinguished with age. 8)
I'd like one please.
A separate Group Ticket thread has been posted in this section.
If you have already sent the money for your pins... thank-thee! I've received funds from most everyone. We are about ready to pick up the first batch of pins! ;D
Thank-thee! Looking forward to seeing everyone next month! Finally, it's September and I can say,
NEXT MONTH IS RENDEZVOUS!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Is it time to get excited??
Yes, yes indeed Merlin!
The weather has started to make its change from constant hot to those nicer fall temps. Ready for faire and RenDezvous, the gates of Fairhaven will be open before you know it. Looking forward to seeing everyone in October.
Remember if there are any questions about CRF, the area, hotels, where to eat, etc please ask

Just in case anyone was interested in checking out the Friday night meet-n-greet location. The Galway Hooker is a great time, good beer, nice menu and the large parking lot is right next to the pub and its free.
Also, if you have yet to order &/or pay for your Rendezous pin, all orders are due in by October 10th to give our local artisan time to make them!!!
Huzzah almost here!!! :)
Reminder tomorrow, October 10th is the LAST day to order your Rendezvous pins!
Which means... Rendezvous is getting closer!!!! :) :) :) :) :)
