Title: New York Ren Faire
Post by: claymore on October 18, 2016, 04:30:49 PM
After the better part of 20 years going to this fair, I have reached the point of which I will not return.I have never seen so many self absorbed patrons, grouchy actors on the streets, not out going or even trying to interact with people. They have lost it.

That's a bummer. Care to go into more detail? For reference, I had a pretty good time this year...

We went the last day of the fair. Street actors at this fair hang with themselves, not nearly the interaction of other fairs. Bar under the trees slow and not very friendly as in years past.  Everyone acted as if they could not wait for it to be over. It would be nice to do something with the non dressing self absorbed  smart phone crowd. Overall , lots of non friendly folks.

CLAYMORE:   I sense that you are not on staff at NYRF, so I will ask the pregnant question.  Did you go out and do any interacting with patrons?.  When I go to a faire I always interact.  There is only one faire that I know of that states in their website that costumed patrons may not interact with patrons on a character level.
Needless to say that is a faire that I will not attend.

I'd be curious to know which faire that is, Blakduke. If preferred, you may message me. I certainly do not wish to attend any faire that inhibits interaction. I do not tend to initiate interaction with playtrons, other than children checking out the olde wizard, but I do get approached rather frequently by adults, too. Women are always commenting how much they like my staff...

Thanks, Blakduke. I've been to that one once, and did not have an issue, but perhaps that is only because I wasn't initiating the interaction.  It had some pluses and minuses.
