Attention in the camp...104 days...that is all...
And then, quite without warning, the faireticipation kicked itself up another notch...
Meet me at the Squirrelwagon's tailgate for coffee and fritters...August 23rd, you know where... 8)
Only 104 ??? Although we don't start rehearsals for another month I guess I better start getting into the Revel Grove groove ;)
Hail, beautiful Gloriana! I hope you and yours are thriving this day.
I look forward to dancing the "Revel Grove Groove" with you very soon!
I can not believe we are finally getting close to being "home" again. It will be a wonderful feeling to be back!!
I'm so excited, it's just my 4th. year at MDRF. Looking forward to meeting everyone. ;)
Oh to be at faire again! I can not wait!
Ah, I can smell (fill in your favorite food item) on a stick cooking now!
Lady Guinness and Scotsman, Save a couple of spots for us...Mumsies and MacRee have plans to make it back again this year! Hope to see you before then, but we sure enjoyed our visit, and plan to be back for more! Maybe even bring a few more along for the ride!
Mumsies~it will be wonderful to see you guys again. We hopefully should cross paths before MDRF, it will be a blast no matter where we meet. Hugs.
Well, we're still planning on coming down on Labor Day Monday (Sept 1st)...
Can't wait!

It shall be great to see you all ;) ;D ;)
I need to get the Labor Day thread started again ... it will be up soon!

Well said my poetic friend!
Well you KNOW m'lady and I will be there opening day for sure! And we MIGHT have rengeek77 and her family in tow from KS as the current plans are for them to come in mid-week for a visit and then go to MDRF opening with us. Will let everyone know as that firms up.
Just drove by Crownsville, and looked wistfully northward from I97...its still there... 8)
Amras, I can not wait to be on the other side our shire walls! It just still seems too far away to be true. At least we are able to supplement our time by doing a "drive by peek".
I believe the countdown is down to 86 days now, huzzah!!!
Drive by peeking...sounds like a typical Fiday night during high school... 8)
We had a change in plans and now are planning on coming down on Aug. 31st (Sunday of Labor Day Weekend). We'll see you all then!

There are a few of the same performers, and quite a few of the same attendees. Obviously, it's much smaller and not the same, but for those jonesing from serious MDRF withdrawal, there's no excuse for not coming down for some cider, catching up with other rennies and singing Old Dun Cow and Wild Mountain Thyme. And nowhere at MDRF will you hear any Irish Blues or "That's What I Like About Rum" :D
Will, I truly did enjoy myself, please so not misunderstand! :) As I said, I do plan on returning to VARF again this year and it will be on the itinerary for years to come. It is just that I realized during the rather loooong ride home it still had not cured my withdrawal for MDRF! It did help to ease some of the pains, but I will definitely need more treatments if I am to make it all the way till August ;)
To help prepare ourselves for MDRF's arrival, NoirCyn and I got into our Black Fox regalia and parked the truck on the grass. We listened to Albanach on the CD player and moved the truck forward 2 feet every half hour from 7pm untill 10 pm last night. To make it more memorable, we hired a neighborhood kid to throw white gravel dust into a fan blowing on the truck and paid his dad to get drunk, stumble onto the hood, scream "Huzzah" and puke.
It was almost like being there.
Indeed ... that about sums it up.
Honestly, I am usually unconscious for most of that ;D

My apologies, the last part of my post was not directed at you at all. It's just part of the frustration I feel when I read post after post about people who seem to be suffering from such terrible MDRF faire withdrawal that an ambulance is about to haul them off to rehab, and yet haven't thought of (or bothered) making the trip to an open faire where they can see some of the same performers and socialize with many of the same friends. For that matter, even this characterization isn't fair, as the comparatively short 90 minute drive I would normally have to faire from my house is such a hassle that I've been getting a hotel room this year. Still, it strikes a nerve to hear people (not you) go on about how *far* away MDRF is when I've been talking to the likes of Captain Moone and Dinty the Moore all season (not to mention a list of my neighbors from the White Hart). I think the original point of my post was to point out some similarities you might've missed (that might help quell the withdrawal a bit more), and then some misplaced frustration leaked out. Sorry about that.
What I love is with VARF and MDRF it is like one long fair - especially if you throw in a trip to PARF in the middle. You get to meet people at VARF in a nice relaxed environment, practice your faire speak, hone your skills and mend all your garb by the time MDRF rolls around.
Respectfully,
Lady Jayne
Never thought of it that way ... we usually start in NCRF, progress to TNRF, through VARF, passed GLMF, into ORF and drop straight into MDRF!
From there we hit PARF and close it out with CRF. Hopefully we will get to a couple in between.
Well you certainly keep busy you don't you. I thought we were doing a lot by trying to hit four faires this year, but I bow in honor to your dedication.
Humbly,
Lady Jayne

Not at all friend. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be in an area that is sooo close to so many faires. All are within reach and a relatively close drive (except TNRF). We are also very fortunate to have jobs that allow us the flexibility to travel. We feel truly blessed. Please, come play with us when you can.

Close is indeed a "relative" term. We make VARF, MDRF and PARF each year, and make a one weekend schlepp to CRF for pirates' weekend every November. We keep meaning to make NCRF, but something usually manages to come up. If TNRF is not "relatively close" and CRF is, then I doubt I'll be making it to that faire any time soon.
I end up spending the rest of my copious free time in the 18th century, which is fun in a different way, and considerably closer.

Reenactment, but not war or anything that involves spending the night outside. I do gentry from the 1750s to colonial, mostly balls, though I was Governor Shirley's secretary for Braddock Day at the Carlyle House this year. Old Town Alexandria is virtually soggy with 18th century history, and you can't swing a cat without hitting some historical building where George Washington slept or Thomas Jefferson had brunch. I'm a more or less active member of the Living History Foundation, (http://www.livinghistoryfoundation.org) so there's a better than average chance that we have some Rev reenactor acquaintances in common.
Thanks for the into to the Living History Foundation. I've always wanted to do a ball at Gatsby's and try my hand at making clothes of the period. Something to add to the never ending list.
What a day...relatively cool...nice and dry...my Fairever Pass came in the mail today...what a day!
Need I mention it...72 days...
You only just now got your pass, Amras? *tsk!* I've had mine for weeks already. :)
Yes, I blame simple recalcitrance...funny thing, though...I ordered it much later than last year, but have almost the same number as last year's card...they must not be selling quite as fast these days...
It was fun sweating with you on Sunday!
Mine was number 43, I think (I remember being disappointed I didn't get 42). Last year, mine was 111, but I think I didn't order until sometime in June at the earliest.
Though I guess there isn't as much incentive to get them this year as there was last year or something without all the anniversary hoopla going on.
And it was fun sweating with you too. :D Maybe we can sweat some more on Saturday. Hee!
I have #55 this year...had #51 las year.
I will be sweating at the Potomac Celtic Fest on Saturday. The weather may be a bit dicey, but its good training...
Got you both beat ... went from 98/99 last year to 18/19 this year ... that and $4 bucks will get me a beer at the White Hart ;D
I'll be sweating it out at VARF this weekend ...
71 days!

Wow almost sounds like VARF weather don't it. ;D
I heard that the weekend before closing weekend was especially brutal on you cast. I seem to recall hearing that some couldn't make it through the day because of the heat and humidity. Guess we picked the right weekend.
Dallan you are correct my friend. The weekend before M'Crack invasion weekend was absolutely miserable,I was only there on Sunday but i ended up having to take myself out of the show and off of cast before the day was over because it was just to hot. From what I heard that Saturday we had several people go down from heat including our own director and Sunday we had an additional 3 to for more people go down as well so be glad yall chose last weekend for your invasion weekend my friend.

So very true, it was a heat the likes of which Revel Grove had never felt before.
I was at both MDRF 2007 opener as a playtron and the now becoming legendary Hell Weekend at VARF 2008 as a performer, and at least I now feel immunized from heat. I have been through what surely could not be repeated, and lived. As bad as I remember MDRF being, VARF was worse: it was just as hot, more humid, and I couldn't just up and go home when it got to be too much. (Well, I could have -- management made it clear they wanted people to stand down before they fell down. But I felt duty bound to keep entertaining as long as I could take it, since unbelievably there were patrons there till the very end.)
Aye, you gotta love them die hards! I am putting my request in for weather on the opener! Clear ...85!
One thing that can be said is that no matter what the weather does, there are always playtrons & patrons, MDRF will be open and we will perform.
LowlandScot said it best VARF was a living hell the next to last weekend before closing, however i never thought that Maryland's weather was just as bad.Speaking as someone who does NOT well with heat i am hoping that when i come to MDRF that the weather will hold up and not get as hot as VARF was the next to last weekend when people were droping like flies on both days.
Well I'm NOT making the same mistake this year and brining only my nobles garb! I'm going to bring my pirate garb too that way if its too hot I can wear something that is cool. I survived Hell Weekend at VARF in nobles garb but just barely and I could go backstage and cool off some and had plenty of ice readily available. MDRF does a good job but they ran out of water and ice last year on opening weekend and that spelled trouble for a lot of people. Hope they are more stocked up this time around.

Amen. I even cheated at VARF, spending nearly a half hour in the car's air conditioning around noon, but it was like tossing bricks down the Grand Canyon. We made it to closing after the "I survived 105" day at MDRF and even went out to eat afterwards, but after day one of the VARF Hell Weekend, we passed up a free dinner and party to go back to the hotel and collapse.

I knew it was epic-proportions bad when I dumped ice water on my head and
it wouldn't evaporate. I'm just thankful Cornie didn't tell us what the heat index was until after the gates closed. If I'd known beforehand I probably would have passed out.

I think that being flexible with the garb choice is a huge help in tolerating the heat. Of course cast can't be flexible. I'll stick to the kilt and merchant garb until a little later in the season. My pirate garb has a coat that can get a little steamy once the temperature gets above the upper 80s.

That was the only weekend I didn't regret not being able to work on Sunday. I'd been on site all day Friday helping with tents and such that had been knocked about by the storm earlier in the week. I stayed on my feet all day Saturday but by the time the cast party rolled around that night, I was beyond wiped out. Even if my husband hadn't paid a surprise visit that evening, I likely would have called it a night well before the party really got underway. The weather gods have my permission NOT to do that to us again next year. :P

You are in luck - MDRF is within a stones throw of Annapolis and 18 miles from BWI airport, 22 miles from Baltimore, 26 miles from Washington DC. I would go with Annapolis myself. Name the hotel chain and they have it - from cheap to royal. Take your pick. If you need more specifics just shout.

It all depends on when is opening day, 2009. To my knowledge, it hasn't been scheduled yet. If it is August 22, then we have 43 weeks and if it is August 29, then we have 44 weeks from today.
But it'll be here before we know it! I'm just happy that this morning, I was able to sleep in! (First time in 14 weeks!)
Time enough for sleeping at the Old Soldiers Home in several decades...as for faire, bring it on in 306 days...make that 305 and a wake up!!

Oh, the things that make the off-season pass oh so quicker...this weekend, DuClaw is tapping a keg of their new "31", described as a "spiced muncih dunkel"...mmmmmmmmm.....just back from a couple of pints of the 2009 "Madbishop"...mmm (no freakin' t-shirts this year, at lest at Arundel Mills!)...
Its the 29th...rejoice...faire opens 10 months from today!
10 months!
my, how short a span of time that is in the overall scheme of our lifetimes...
oh, forget the philosophical approach... ten months is way TOO LONG!!! GRRR!!!
Did someone say DuClaw? ...
I know there's one in Bel Air - there are more?
Arundel Mills, Fells Point and Bowie Town Center as well...and I've drank my share in each of them, including BelAir. ;D

I can't believe there are over 100 posts and we are a year away...keep 'em coming...I need my daily fix.

Thats 10 months minus a day to go...and its flying by!! :o

Can we give it a rocket booster to help it go faster? ::)
Well ... It appears that I have the MDRF to look forward too, as well. A good friend just moved to Germantown, MD recently, and we visited her. It turns out she had attended the the Faire it's last weekend and was impressed. She went in mundanes, but bought a bodice and is determined to sew the rest of an outfit so she can go next year in full garb. Of course, she insisted that I and my fair spouse come down and attend the Faire with her. We could not possibly refuse. We haven't set a date, but its certain that sometime next season I will venture out of my normal NorthEast haunts and venture south to MDRF.
I'm looking forward to it. Just the chance to see the lady in a bodice .... for sure my wife will rap me upside the head if I let my gaze wander too much, but I've got enough time that I think I can learn how to duck before then.. .
Are you guys coming to the Duclaws up here tomorrow?
Frederic, Any faire day is a ggreat day to be at MDRF but for next season note that Labor Day weekend members of this forum will be invading MDRF for Rendezvous 2009
Hello, M'Lady...no, no meet at DuClaw that I know of...I just happened to mention that they were opening up the new "31" tomorrow.
Cheers!

Welcome, Frederic, to our neighborhood...looking forward to it, and, its LESS than 10 months away!!
Halloween was lacking in my parents neighborhood this year. Alot of people with their lights off, and not as many kids. My mom had 10 tons of leftover candy (we trick-or-treat there since there are a bunch of kids my children's age and the houses are close. I live in the boonies, afterall.)
Course that's all they wanted to eat for breakfast this morning. *SIGH* ::)

Are you guys coming up here next week for that?
YEAH, you guys coming here for that Devil's thing? let me know I wanna go. ;)
I think I can talk Lady Guinness into coming up ... we just have to decide if we will do it Wed or Thurs.
Bel Air right? I will wait and see what Amras & Black Fox decide. Typically if Black Fox is game we go to Bel Air - if he can't attend we will probably go to Arundel Mills. It really does not matter to us ... we will look for any excuse to see you guys off season.
Lady Elfwine and I will be recovering from our Texas expedition over those days, so we will have to see...
...my advice, if you want to go to DuClaw for a release, is not to wait on anyone else to say "I'm going"...just simply go to your closest DuClaw, and you will be surprised whom you see. I've never been to a release where I didn't see several other MDRF regulars there, at BelAir, Fells Point, any of them...so, to paraphrase a certain 1st Lady..."Just say yes....and go!"
Tonight, the ceremonial water proofing of the Medeival Moccasins...they are so ready for next season!!
If you guys come up to Bel Air I can meet up with you. Ron and I used to go on Wednesday after we found out that giveaways on Thursdays were the left-overs of the previous day.
Please please make a notice if you hit up a DuClaw's. Hubby and I haven't been to one in forever and a night out would be great!
Willcertainly do so, Ranna.
And, if you haven't done it yet, go to the DuClaw website and register for their e-mail list.
You get "freebies" on the release nights if you do. And, the full schedule is laid out for the whole year.
Things like this only increase the speed with which the off-season days and weeks fly by (already up to nearly "plaid-speed").
Cheers!
what do we do to pass time during the off season? Why,we have Scotsman star in the 0930 Tartanic show at TRF on my cell phone...film at 11! (The phone connection died before they send the upkilt phone-cam pic... :o )

I still have a huge bowl of it stashed away. I won't let the kids scorf it down, although it feels like we'll have candy till Fest opens - especially since certain mothers/mother-in-laws always feel the need to help restock with treats after visits. :(

You know what I'm talkin' about!!
Yup, I know ... St Paddies day is right around the corner ;D
How now let's not jump THAT far ahead.
For some of us a big holiday is next week ^^
Can't wait for my kids to see what Santa brought them. :)
If anyone hears me complaining about how hot it is at faire in '09 please slap me up side my head and remind me of how cold I was this morning!
LOL yeah I KNOW what you are talking about! Back at the beginning of December I marched in 2 parades for VARF and was cold for the first time in my nobles garb! I kept telling everyone to remind me how cold I am now when I start complaining in May! LOL
How many days left? This week is always tough on me. First day back to work since December 22; Christmas, New Year's and my birthday (yesterday) are over and we still have a lot of winter left. Come on MDRF!
BTW – first time I was able to take the holidays completely off. Man was it great.
Happy Birthday cousin!
Once we get passed St Paddies day it is all down hill! Next stop Burn's night!
Thanks. Burn's night?
Happy Birthday Dallan.I hope you had a good one cousin.

Dallan, hope you had a great day- miss everyone, can't wait to see everyone.
I would have been happy to host a Burns night for you all this year but alas I will be in Ft. Benning, GA for my sons graduation from Army Basic Training. So, in my absence I charge you all with raising a pint for the great on Robert Burns!
If you are so inclined, google him for some of his great poem and toasts ... very educational. If you have never attended a Burns night before I highly recommend you find one and go. It is a fantastic time indeed. As for me, I usually go here http://www.royalmilepub.com/ (http://www.royalmilepub.com/) which is the only Scottish Pub in MD. It can be hard to find but they are out there ... go, you will be hooked for it is unlike anything you have every experience - a real great time!
Word of advice ... typically for a burns night one needs to buy tickets ... get then now if you can. And wear your kilt lad! Maybe next year we can have our own little gathering and celebrate. We have 12 months to plan.
Thanks for the birthday wishes and the education.

Yea Scotsman! I'm with you my man! Steelers have been my main team for a long time! Although I have to admit I'm a little worried about trying to beat them for a third time. GO STEELERS! Sorry Dallan my friend.
Shame BARF does not start until the 21st. FLARF does start earlier so whomever goes to Tampa if you are willing to drive to the opposite coast, there is a festival to see!
Personally I can't really call who's gonna win that Steelers vs Ravens Game this coming weekend.Since I'm a Raiders Fan (sorry Scotsman and Master James) I know before the season even ended that we didn't even have a shot at the playoffs but honestly in my opinion I think that that is going to be one blood bath of a game.Technically I should be pulling for the Ravens (since the Steelers are the Raiders main Rival) but that is going to be a defensive battle none the less so all in all I think it's going to be a good game to say the least.
No need to be sorry for me cousin ... I am a Vikings fan ... but considering I don't have a dog in this fight I have to go with my second string ... Steelers.

Master James I will give your Steelers this much going into the AFC Championship Game this coming Sunday.Don't quote me on this but I think that the Steelers have the top ranked Defense in the NFL right now and with Baltimore having a rookie quarterback I don't know if he will be able to handle the pressure of that tough Pittsburgh Defensive unit but it's like I said before I think it's just going to be a good game altogether.

Hi All,
Just popping in to say hello, Happy New Year, and wow what a day yesterday was. I was a random dot near the Washington Monument in the satellite photo. Work has been crazy but that is a good thing given the state of the world today. Can't wait until Faire season!
Lady Jyne
Hi Lady Jayne -
It's been pretty quiet around here. Can't wait until spring to go to faire. One of these days we'll take the boys to the grand Canyon and ARF in mid-winter. But for now we're just waiting for the thaw.
These year, I WILL MAKE IT TO A TAILGATE!
Scotsman & Master James -
I'm not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed that I didn't hear from you regarding the AFC Championship Game. It saved me a lot of money. The Tampa trip wasn't going to be cheap. Hopefully we can reallocate some of the funds for faire travel this spring.
Dallan my friend, I didn't think it was quite faire to rub it in so chose to let it go by. We got what I expected from Flacko and that was rookie mistakes in a big game. Scary thing is, I don't think he'll make the same mistakes next time. He's a really good QB.
You are more of a gentleman than I. :)
From what I heard that game had some of the most vicious hits ever in it but of course I got tired and fell asleep before the game ended.

Well, it looks like I will be able to go to faire this year just to harass you ... wait, I would have done that anyway! Seriously, sorry about the team bro but I don't think I could have lived in MD for a year if your boys won ... I remember the last time ...
Hey, they did well getting to where they did.
They shouldn't have beaten my Titans
There's always NEXT year
Now... as to this year's MDRF... I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to it!
I've got the entire run of MY Home Faire coming up and yet I'm thinking about the trip there...
I need my faire fix so tonight I'm going to go home; put on some garb, put an empty flask in my pocket, spill some beer on myself, go into the bathroom, turn up the heat to 90 degrees and the shower on to get some humidity in the air, eat some food from a stick, then mumble some inappropriate comments so I can feel like Scotsman's nearby. :D
Good job Dallan, that should make you feel right at faire. ::)
Okay ... not funny ... but true!
Oh, Dallan -
Thanks for the visual! I can close my eyes, and we are all there. This is why we love you! ;)

Master hardwood is a bit more problematic...he went to the hospital with chest pains on Monday. He's OK, but I'm wondering if the old git will be in fighting form for the Rendezvous...

Weather is improving slightly for opening weekend:
Saturday, 78, now only a 30% chance of rain, windy
Sunday, 82, 30% chance of rain, windy
I still plan on rain for tomorrow, as Danny Boy beats up the coast...
I still can't decide what's going to be my best bet for "rain-wear" tomorrow. Definitely will wear/show off my new bodice. Everything else may just end up depending on what I pull out in the morning to put on.
Well, I'm one of those freaky types that actually hopes it rains... but that's because I love the rain, and for some reason, enjoy faire more when it does (not because of the thinned crowd, btw). But, I'm like you, Analise... not sure how to plan on this one. I mean, Danny's sneaking up the coast, and could take a nasty turn. High's supposed to be 78 (down from 83), but that could change as well... for better or worse (worse being it shoots back up). Unfortunately, because of the temp, it leaves me torn... do I wear the half-moon, or not. Cuz yeah, does wonders for keeping me dry, but... if that temp shoots up to the 80s... bleh :P
Oh, and... 21 hours, 22 minutes now!
please dont' rain, please don't rain, please don't rain, please don't rain
my husband has a tendency to cancel ren fair trips if it rains :(
and my joints really get bad when it rains, and then i get sick, and wont be able to enjoy the fair
please don't rain, please don't rain, please don't rain, please don't rain
i think i need to go find something to sacrifice to the rain gods! water, maybe?
Current weather from here in the Severn/Crownsville area...its raining like heck out there, and has been for awhile...

Excellent job on the pictures Sir Black Fox. Thanks for sharing them lad.
I'm coming out on Saturday, but alas I have no actual garb with me, and only pieces of my fake "play" garb... Good thing it's Magic weekend!

OK, I've got 12 of the steps - six steps up to the bar, order a beverage, then six steps back. Where does the 13th come in? ;)
Wow! Faire AND International "Talk Like A Pirate" Day...what could be better??! ;)
I think that Sunday, the 27th, shall be entitled "Talk Like an Intoxicated Marylander Day"...yeah, I kinda like the sound of that...
LOL! You ROCK!
I'm sure there were many proficent people there on Sunday, aye M'Lord? ;)
Yes, dear Captain, it pays to stay in practice...

That reminds me of the joke about why there's a Mothers Day and a Fathers Day buy no Children's Day - "EVERY day is Children's Day!". At MDRF, the same is true of intoxicated Marylanders.

Coming this fall to a theater near you:
The Brotherhood of the Traveling Cooler
A continuing story of three young rennies who acquire a magical cooler that fits all three of them perfectly, even though they're all different shapes and sizes. The three main characters are Scotsman, Tim T and Amras.
This moving has not yet been rated.
Looking for an experienced screenplay writer?
A new twist ... saw Amras at the gym this AM and he is ransoming my cooler. He is also taunting me with the fact that his new truck is basically a huge cooler with bigger wheels!
Renvious!
I, personally, loved the fact that Captain Spleen showed up for Rendezvous up there in a Chevy HHR
The HHR, as we all know, is short for Hibernian Hot Rod
;D
:o Wow learn something new everyday
In honor of oktober fest if you wish a great but sort or weird photo op, most of the ladies of the court will be at the white heart at noon to dance a polka better known as the chicken dance! ;D
I want the VIDEO
LOL! Oh this ought to be very interesting. ;D

That's a myth promulgated by people with small ones.
Early yesterday morning, in a very dark and sinister looking parking lot, the cooler ransom exchange was made...said cooler is now back home, presumably happy and soon to be full of ice.

Indeed, since 2003 or so. I haven't worn the pin at VARF for the past few years, since it's too heavy for the light jerkin I switched to. I wear it quite a bit at MDRF, but lordwriothsley hasn't made it to that faire in years. Perhaps if he can make the trip, he might yet be able to witness (or participate in) a roguing.

Sorry but as for now I will not be at fest this year. I have been notified that I will not be returning as cast this year and just going to the grove without Ron is something I cannot do. If they change their minds then I will be there. otherwise, I wish nothing but pure enjoyment to all. Maybe next year....
Sorry to hear this Gloria. You will be missed lass.
That is so sad:(
Both of you will be there in our hearts.
Because of some inquiries, here is the long version pertinent to my post.
Ron was part of MDRF when it was in Columbia for one maybe two seasons. He played St. George and had to slay a dragon three times a day. The ren was forever a part him. He would attend to "people watch" and to experiment with his photography skills. Believe it or not, he was actually shy and that is why he liked to be part of the background. He introduced me to the festival in 2000 and I was never the same. History was my best subject in school and I loved it. Seeing the festival through my eyes added a deeper dimension to his passion. We were committed to attend at least once every season form that point on. The ren became part of us and was instrumental in changing my view from Ron my best friend to Ron my true love. It was like we both belonged in that time and with each other. We traveled to other faires but the Grove was always the standard and at the center of our pursuit in this passion. Many a time we were called lucky to have it as our home faire, one of the best in the country.
At Revel Grove, as we took every aspect in, we shared so many ideas, feelings and a passion that I wish I could describe better. Being part of the cast just added to it while allowing us to feel like we were giving back some of that which the Grove was giving us. For me, it gave me the chance to do something I loved, in a place that I loved. That last season he was here, he couldn't wait for me to get home and tell him all about the Grove, what I had done, who I had seen, all that I experienced. Last year, in my grief, it further helped that I had a character to portray, things to do and places to be. Very little time while at faire to reflect and give way to my root feelings of loss and not being able to exchange with my love our thoughts, ideas and passion. That was reserved for when I got home and could freely give way to tears and speak to Ron. Ron did want me to continue and made me promise I would do so but he also knew because I told him, that I would only continue as cast because otherwise it is too painful and actually I enjoy being on cast. It be because of all of this that I cannot attend the festival as a patron. I will be here off and on as well. I hope you understand. I wish a great and successful season to all.
Oh Amras! How many days?

Just curious...what's the status with Irene in the vicinity? I saw that NYRF would be closed Sunday. Cripes! What a year this has been!
So far they are opening today, per their website and Facebook. No word about tomorrow. BUT the worst of the storm is supposed to hit us overnight tonight in the DC Metro area (which loosely covers MDRF if you're kinda liberal about how big you consider the DC Metro area and most peeps around here figure that's most of MD and the top half of VA ;D ). So while we will start getting some rain this afternoon it's not supposed to be bad until overnight, then it's gone by Sunday afternoon.
Right now it's in the mid 70s, a little humid and cloudy, but it's not a dark cloudy and no rain in my area of the DC Metro.
I know I have been gone from here for a long while but I guess I have been "sucked in" by facebook. I do not know if I will make it this year either. I am not part of the cast again and actually am pretty sure I will never be again. I have been told that my interest for the festival are to tied to Ron and that I need to go find something else to be interested in for myself. I am giving myself time to process this as I want to do it rationally instead of emotionally. I will probally sell some of our stuff. I would love to have the navigation stuff to end up in a museum of with some historical society that would benefit fully....In any case, hope you guys have an amazing season!
Finally able to sit up for a bit after being in bed for the last 4 days. hope again that have a most joyous weekend especially those who are visiting from afar. Alas I am not able to join you due to house needs and that the issue of my attendance is complicated.
A most joyous Yule to all....and, well, its never too early...244 days till MDRF 2012...cheers!!
I'm still emotionally distraught from having a squirrel spying on me from a third floor window as I stood in the parking lot of a Castle Rock, Colorado hotel.... Nonetheless, Amras, you and your cohorts there have a wonderful holiday from a crusty old wizard.... 244 doesn't sound so bad.
Good mage, said rodent is espying the culdesac, even as I type...I thank you for your good tidings, and pass along the same to you and yours...the clock is ever counting, so its never that many days until something will happen...or something like that... 8)
So tell me, Master Amras, how did your squirrel fair today; Groundhog Day? I cannot help but think he would celebrate this National holiday for his kissing cousin?
As Todd posted on his tiny, squirrel-sized facebook page on that day...
"This Phil guy up in PA is amazing...now, I personally didn't even have to get up off my tiny sofa or set down my first bloody mary of the day to go outside to be able to tell you that, by my reckoning, Winter is due about the 3rd week of March...cheers!!"
Attention in the camp:

Still seems like a long way off ;) Hope I can make it down this year and if I do make it down it is sunny and not to hot (NO RAIN ALLOWED!!)
Last year I went over Labor Day weekend and broiled - still had a great time tho!
The rumors of my demise are just that...I was just resting...can anyone say "a wakeup?" See you tomorrow!
Cu Dubh for the rest of the run. 'Bout time we had some tribal music again...
Cu Dubh were pretty damned fun, though they need to learn to relax a little bit. Maybe we should all start buying them drinks!
'Cause its never too early to change a thread title...it'll be here before we know it...two flicks of a squirrels tail...but you knew that...
Attention in the camp...97 days...that is all...
I'll be there for Pirate's Day weekend, and am working on some of my garb tonight. I'm stringing beads, made my waist scarf, and ordered a linen pair of pirate pants. Woohoo!!! Can't wait!!! ;D
I will be in attendance for the first time over Labor Day weekend. Cannot wait!
Chuck'n and I are planning on coming up with a car load of peoples.
39 days!
Woohoo! I'll be vending on Pirate's Weekend, so I'm gathering my garb ... ARRRR!!! ;D
How... many... Eeeeek!
Just kidding.
Allow me to introduce myself - I'm JQ, and this will be my third year as a member of the acting company at MDRF. I'll be playing Isabella d'Este, Marchioness of Mantua this year. Just wanted to chime in and say get excited because the storylines for both the Court and the Village are shaping up to be REALLY fun this year. Keep an eye out for us - especially that Italian Court! (hint hint, nudge nudge).
And... 27 days. That's less than a month. Get ready, people!
Greetings, JQ, and Todd the Squirrel and I look forward to making your acquaintance in just a few days! Slainte!! 8)

I think the last time I was at MDRF was in 2006. Moved to KC Jul 2007. Kinda liked your faire! I hope you guys have a good season! HUZZAH!
About 3 days now 'til opening day, for anyone who maybe keeping track of that sort of thing.
Tomorrow!!1!
Eek! Can't wait ;D
Pirates this weekend!!! I just finished putting the plumes on my hat. ;D
Had a great time at my second visit yesterday- saw a few familiar faces but I'm kind of a dork and shy- plus I was with a group.
Any recommendations on shows this year? I'm planning at least one more visit and I want to catch some of the PG/PG-13 shows. I'm sorely missing Hack and Slash, Interpreters, and O'danny girl type shows...
Shakespeare Skum remains awesome.
Hi
If you are looking for Interpreters, and O'danny girl type shows..., then you must have missed the O'danny Duo. This group is Daisy O'danny and Trinket from the Interpreters.
They performed twice when I was there yesterday. Once at the Gatehouse, and again at the Whitehart.
Regards
Sheldon
Great googly moogly, its June 3rd already...you know what that means...its just around the corner... 8)
80 days according to my countdown!
VARF was a lot of fun, now I'm primed for our home faire. If you see us, come over and introduce yourself! I want to meet all my online friends in person...

Any plans for a meet-up?
My group of friends meets every Saturday following cannon at the Dragon Inn. Then we usually head to O'Shucks around noon. Feel free to drop by at any time!

Thanks, Serenity! May take you up on that one Saturday. Do you meet in the tented upper part of Dragon Inn? S
Sorry for the late reply. Yes that is where we meet! By the time we make it through the gate and say hi to our boothie friends it's usually close to 11. Although, if we're hungry and thirsty, we'll make a beeline for the pub :)
Thanks, Serenity. Definitely be floating around on opening day! Only 12 to go (gasp!).
36 hours and counting!

LOL! Of course you head straight for the pub, you DoRT SOT you. :) Now, I'm plowing through here, trying to match fair names with real names. I remember a time when we only knew fair names at fair. Ah, the body is willing, but the brain is old...and sober. Cheers!!
Here we are, about 6 months out. Last recon, on a driveby one night looking over from I97 when crossing over the Crownsville Road overpass, showed a dark expanse with only a few service lights. I can confirm that they were not noticeably up to anything.
6 months.
Slainte mhath!!
Better to be called Plushy than Pushy, or worse even..... nervous?
Anyone headed to Maryland for either of the last two weekends, advice follows:
Get there early...those big parking lots have been full by noon, and they have stopped selling daily tickets at around 1PM lately. Also, the traffic has been insane, so bottom line, get there early, well before cannon, to alleviate not getting in in a timely fashion. Did I mention getting there early?
Cheers!

Only 42 more weeks... 8)
