I will have to get the one on Anne Boleyn before I leave for vacation in February. I love Allison Weir. I read one of her bios, THE CHILDREN of HENRY VIII. Very good read.
I'm currently on The Six Wives & Henry VIII the king & his court...good so far...
Update: here's another new one for you all to check out... http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Boleyn-Wife/Brandy-Purdy/e/9780758238443/?itm=1&usri=the+boleyn+wife

I believe a friend of mine has it...oh & I now have the Alison Weir one yea! ;D
I just started The Time Traveler's Guide to Medieval England: A Handbook for Visitors to the Fourteenth Century by Ian Mortimer :) Instead of reciting facts, it makes you imagine yourself walking into a medieval village! I haven't gotten into it very far as of yet, but it seems like a great way to get my faire fix when the new faire season is still far away!
I've seen this book...looks interesting!

Here's the description from Borders since B & N didn't put one up:
From theNew York Timesbestselling author ofThe Last Wife of Henry VIIIcomes a novel about the bitter rivalry between Queen Elizabeth I and her fascinating cousin, Lettice Knollys, for the love of one extraordinary manPowerful, dramatic and full of the rich history that has made Carolly Erickson's novels perennial bestsellers, this is the story of the only woman to ever stand up to the Virgin Queen-- her own cousin, Lettie Knollys. Far more attractive than the queen, Lettie soon won the attention of the handsome and ambitious Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, a man so enamored of the queen and determined to share her throne that it was rumored he had murdered his own wife in order to become her royal consort. The enigmatic Elizabeth allowed Dudley into her heart, and relied on his devoted service, but shied away from the personal and political risks of marriage. When Elizabeth discovered that he had married her cousin Lettie in secret, Lettie would pay a terrible price, fighting to keep her husband's love and ultimately losing her beloved son, the Earl of Essex, to the queen's headsman. This is the unforgettable story of two women related by blood, yet destined to clash over one of Tudor England's most charismatic men.

Looks like 3 months of good reads! Yea!
Lady M, if you haven't read it already, I would HIGHLY recommend, "The Autobiography of Henry VIII" by Margaret George. It is my all-time favorite book, and I re-read it every few years.....
Hahahaha funny you should mention it...I have the book & am nearly at the end-it is a good book...thick, but good. I also have her one about Mary Queen of Scots but have yet to read it. :)
Aww yes, that is also in my library. :)

I just finished The King's Rose, a historical fiction about Katherine Howard. Pretty good - I actually found myself feeling sorry for her despite her indiscretions.
I'm currently making my way through "Renaissance and Reformation" by William Estep, and enjoying it.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Renaissance-and-Reformation/William-Roscoe-Estep/e/9780802800503/?itm=1&USRI=renaissance+and+reformation
Waiting to read His Last Letter. I did read The Virgin's Daughters and was a bit peeved to find that it was 2 separate stories, it was okay, not as good as Philippa Gregory's books.
Pope Joan is a VERY good book as well as the Doomsday Book (its a bit like Timeline but better as far as i am concerned).
Out of the time period but Water For Elephants is also very good.
Another upcoming one: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Tudor-Secret/C-W-Gortner/e/9780312603908/?itm=2&USRI=the+tudor+secret

I really enjoyed The Time Traveler's Guide. We listened to the unabridged audio version on our drives to Ren Faires during the summer 2010. It really gets you in the perfect mindset. I am glad to say our medical practices have improved since then!
Not in library yet, but George RR Martin has just announced that A Dance With Dragons will be available on July 12. Yea its only been six years.

If you liked this one, you'll be glad to hear I just found out he's done another one! This time on The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan England (http://www.amazon.com/Time-Travellers-Guide-Elizabethan-England/dp/1847921140/ref=sr_1_12?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1333762092&sr=1-12)! I can't wait to read it!
I just read a fantastic fiction book. It has nothing to do with history or Ren faires.
It's called "Cotton Rock" by Janet Smith Post. You can buy it on Amazon.com. I loved it so much, I've already bought 2 other copies for gifts.
Awesome! Thanks for the heads up!
Just saw that Philippa Gregory is putting out the first novel in her first series for teens! Check it out here (http://www.amazon.com/Changeling-Order-Darkness-Philippa-Gregory/dp/1442453443/ref=pd_sim_b_7). :)
The second in the Wolf Hall Trilogy is out May 8: Bring Up the Bodies (http://www.amazon.com/Bring-Up-Bodies-Novel-Trilogy/dp/0805090037/ref=pd_sim_b_5)
My copy of the new Ian Mortimer book has arrived from the UK & rather quickly to my great pleasure! Huzzah & let the reading commence! I'll be posting my review on my blog as soon as I finish. :)
Just started "The Wicker Tree" by Robin Hardy, fun read so far.
Thanks for the heads up! :)
Just discovered a mystery series that takes place at a ren faire! There's been 4 of them so far with number 5 due out Sep. 4:
Wicked Weaves (http://www.amazon.com/Wicked-Weaves-Renaissance-Faire-Mysteries/dp/0425223302/ref=pd_sim_b_1)
Ghastly Glass (http://www.amazon.com/Ghastly-Glass-Renaissance-Faire-Mystery/dp/0425230309/ref=pd_sim_b_4)
Deadly Daggers (http://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Daggers-Renaissance-Faire-Mystery/dp/0425236447/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1338647317&sr=1-6)
Harrowing Hats (http://www.amazon.com/Harrowing-Hats-Renaissance-Faire-Mystery/dp/0425242773/ref=pd_sim_b_4)
Treacherous Toys (http://www.amazon.com/Treacherous-Toys-Renaissance-Faire-Mystery/dp/0425251586/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1338652838&sr=1-3)
And while non fiction, I found a book of faire photography that came out this past February called Scenes from a Faire (http://www.amazon.com/Scenes-Faire-Rochelle-Hanson/dp/1467988812/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1338646867&sr=1-1). Hmmm, maybe some of our fellow board members are inside?...and there's one coming Nov. 19 called Well Met: Renaissance Faires and the American Counterculture (http://www.amazon.com/Well-Met-Renaissance-American-Counterculture/dp/0814771386/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1338646773&sr=1-9)...from the description, it sounds like it's gonna be pretty interesting!
So, I just bought (and subsequently read) Her Highness, The Traitor by Susan Higgenbotham. It was an amazing read and told from the 1st person POVs of Jane Dudley, Duchess of Northumberland and Frances Brandon Grey, Duchess of Suffolk. It deals mostly with the events leading up to, including, and after Jane Grey.
I found it to be wonderfully researched and gave life to characters who, due to lack of information, are kind of...shady?
Anyway, excellent book for those that are interested in this particular time frame.
Thanks for the review! I look forward to reading it! :)
