hi Everyone
Faire season is getting close and I hope you are all as excited as Toki and I are for it to start.
I thought I would see who plans on having new garb, pieces of grab and accerorises for their garb.
Once again I will have a new dress. Once again done by the talented Lady Kathleen. This one will be modeled after a Katherine of Aragon dress done in a forest green. It will have false sleeves and long outtr sleeves and the thing I am really exicted about a Gabled Hood done HA.
I will also have new pirate grab so Tanda YOU ARE correct in many ways. I have leggings and a buckled leather corset and then a thin off the shoulder chemise/blouse and then my pirate jacket which will be in burgundy and black and be a dash of Renaissance style mixed onto a pirate jacket with a flared skirting at the bottem of the jacket. The upper sleeves will be princes and the lower will be slashed giving it that Renaissance look. I hope to have new boots that are thigh high. Finding a pair that fits my aircraft carrier feet isn't easy and I am 0 - 2 and a third pair coming. They are very low heel and look great... if they fit.
Toki will have a new doublet done in blue and two or maybe three pair of Ventician pants. One to go with each of his three outfits (His pants last year were a little painful to wear as they were to tight so he is going the Venitian route) He will have a King James styled tall hat and will still wear his Conquistador helmet a few times (No breast plate this year).
We both got new swords (matching) They are combat quality and do have edges but that doesn't matter. They are German Side swords and are perfectly balanced. Got them from Kult of Athena. I hope to have atleast 1 and hopefully 2 flintlock pistols for the pirate outfit.
So looking forward to faire and wearing new garb.
Dont you love getting new goodies!
I will probably have new garb; if I reach all my goals for this year, none of the old garb will fit. As it is, most of it is a little big anyway. So, we'll see. I have no idea what I'll do. Although, if anyone needs a leather and steel bodice, I'd consider a trade. I had it taken in last year and don't want to have to do it again.
But the hat will stay.
I am sewing on the final buttons for a captain's coat, modeled after the to-for-ones from Samiah. I'll probably be doing another captain's coat, and I have a few bits that go with it (a few debuted at TRF, so I guess it's not entirely new).
I have a few other ideas and plans in the works, but I'm not expecting much to be actually done in time for the Colorado faire.
Sean Daniels - will NOT be wearing tights the first day of faire, and will be a total twist on the entire persona. May carry over to the second day, (but first weekend only) ......... ahh, first day suspense!
CaptDungeonSpleen - When available, will have half an added accessory. Seen by a few so far.
*Sneak peak Monday, March 15th (the Ides of March) from 5-9 pm on tv, Rocky Mountain PBS volunteer Phone Bank*
Other personas will remain the same - Gunnar Rennir - Dane McPearson
A yet to be named new character is a strong possibility.
Could it be Sean Quixote?
It will just be the same old Elizabeth and the same old Zoë this year. If I buy any garb it will have to happen after the season starts. I wish I could bring Fritzie out to play this season but, alas. She does not quite fit inside my booth. However, I have contemplated working on a new--bigger--hat for Zoë, which could potentially appear before opening cannon, we'll see. I believe Zoë should like to get out of the packing crate more than once or twice this season.
how about old garb.....?

This jerkin fits again. ;D
HEY Very nice. I like it.
I have a magic machine to give me all new garb...
I call it Maytag...
Maytag can make your jerkin a whole new size if you wish...
The Baroness and I have just returned from the Arizona festival where she acquired a wondrous new mask for Mardi Gras weekend. I acquired the bill.
As all good Barons should for their Baroness :)
The Professor is looking for a good price on a large brass Fireman's Trumpet... My voice got a little strained last year intoning the soft and dulcet cry of...
MUSIC LESSON! C SHARP OR B FLAT!
MAKE WAY FOR THE ROYAL PARADE!
RENAISSANCE S-U-V, COMING THROUGH!
TO THE ELEPHANT, YOU ARE A SQUEAKY TOY!
MAKE WAY FOR THEIR ROYAL MAJESTIES' CARRIAGE!
Mommy and Daddy don't love you, do they?
CLEAR THE ROAD!
If anyone sees one, reproductions are sold as decorations, do let me know? Not quite period, but neither is roadkill.
Best!
Found this on Google. pretty cheap at $23.00 http://www.aquasuperstore.com/products/Fireman-Trumpet--Small~7231.html?CAWELAID=327037520 (http://www.aquasuperstore.com/products/Fireman-Trumpet--Small~7231.html?CAWELAID=327037520)
Try a giant cowbell, that clears a path lol.
I had all these grand plans of new skirts and bodices for mom and I, and new shirts for my little guy but now we are planning on moving into a bigger house so all non essentail projects are on the back burner
Haven't had a chance to put thought into this years garb, though both pairs of boots need fixing, so that's probably where the money is going <and quite possibly a pirate hamster :) >
Course, depending on the situation, there might be more. I ain't telling.
<though I will say, the lone wolf might not be totally lone>

Dont forget the odd Garland every now and then
I hear she has a taste for Nun, on the beaten side...;)

So, if the nun tasted of Arnold Palmer...would that mean that the elephant had a taste for Sweet Nun?
Careful- all we need is another golfer apology...
Yes- a sweet nun :) Fortunately Paige was much kinder last summer- no need for a nun helmet as an addition to garb...
The girls and I are seriously considering making our own costumes this year . . . something well-fitting, much simpler, and WASHABLE. But that's all still in the works. If not that, then we'll be in the same dresses as before. Barring that, well, we all have birthday suits.
(better tips)
Gee I don't know why you would want costumes that fit (Wink Wink)
As for the elephant... she hasn't squeezed me yet for a Blue Nun... but she did circle my head and try to take my wig a couple times. She knows what belongs there and what doesn't.
As for my garb, I am hoping to introduce my new character. Just think walking trash heap and you may just picture it right. No bears named Lancelot though. Those came out with Roosevelt.

Well I hope you all have fine new garb. While the dresses they supply are pretty, Noblise Oblige dresses are NOT cheap and are NOT made to last. Take this from someone who thought long and hard about one and then found someone who makes HA dresses that do last made for me, at half the cost. And while mine are washable, I have to wash them the old fashion way... By Hand which sucks but gives me more respect for them.
Best of luck in the new garb search
I went through my fabric boxes. If I get my act together, I will have between 1 and 4 new outfits. It all depends on how much I can get done. I will definitely have a new pink skirt and new bodice to match. I may also have a green, a blue, or a black skirt with matching bodices.
I definitely need to get into the game of learning how to create costumes. I have a feeling it would 1) save me a lot of money and 2) lead to a lot of new characters!
Making your own saves a boatload of money. And its funner too.
But I have gotten addicted and sometimes spend too much on the fabric because it could be something. lol
I think it saves some money, depending on your skills and your tastes. But it takes a lot of time. My skills are fairly basic, so I rely on really good fabric to bring the quality up a little. Upholstery fabric mostly.
I cotton is my friend!
Its funny though because there are some things that scream bloomers or skirts its fun I love having costuming that is original. ;D
Adriana, you should check out the Queen's bloomers. She has so many unique ones! LOL
I love making my garb. Last year was the first time I ever bought pre-made garb, but that was due to the "short notice" that I was no longer to be the nun. I only had pieces of garb here or my noble wear which is red, so I could not wear it to CRF.
Best place I have found to get any fabric is Denver Fabrics. I LOVE shopping there. Fabric jumps out and screams... make me work for you! Hoping to go there soon to get more textiles for the new character.
Last year I received several new tights just by going to Denver fabrics (with a certain person) and making it a point to say, ooh, this would make nice tights...
I also got new hats to wear. I just shaved my head, so they fit a bit loose these days.
It helped buying a new sewing machine for said certain person as well...
I have purchased many different parts of garb at faire over the years- I still wear the first poet's shirt I bought years ago. Some people might be surprised, but I find ren garb to be very comfortable.
no surprise there sir I love wearing my garb as well. Most of it made for me by my mom and some bought add ons but making ones own is great. I so wish garb could be everyday wear again though working for wal-mart that might turn alot of heads lol

Hey, this was a family restaurant - we dressed nicely. They would not let me wear my ren garb though, which, on occasion, tends to get a bit of teriyaki chicken sauce on it... for some reason...
The restaurant went out of business years ago, which is too bad since they made hamster spam just the way you like it...

Well a spoon full of Teriyaki makes the hamster go down, the hamster go down, the hamster go down. Just a spoon full of teriyaki makes the hamster go down, in the most delightful way :)
Okay I lied, I do get to have some new accessories this year. A good friend I made at last year's Rendezvous (on the boards as William of Ware) from Massachusetts hand-made me a leather pouch embossed with my "Z" design, the one on my favors...huzzah! It arrived in the mail today and I'm quite excited to break it in at Arizona next weekend. Now everyone will know when Z is on the premises...

Very nice, Garath. And they look very comfy.
We like it!
I got the swatches in the mail for my new garb Friday. I must admit I loved the green for my Tuder dress but the contrast fabric and color for the under skirt was Horrid. The Lady Kathleen who does my garb sent me two samples for the gabled hood and I told her to use one for the underskirt as well as the gabled hood. After she looked she agreed this was the better choice and it would then tie the gabled hood in with the dress. The green is a Jaquered green with a beautiful design on it. The underskirt, false sleeves and part of the gabled hood will be a gold sewn with diamond shapes. I will then sew on pearls on each point of the diamond on the under skirt.
The Pirate/Swashbuckler Jacket will be a beautiful burgundy velvet with a black jaquared and white lace. I cannot wait for faire and new garb.
Garth wonderful new garb.
This is what i always wanted my outfit to look like. Just an everyday sailor pirate but when i started my first one just went overboard in more ways then one now i am at what i wanted all along and except for loosing the big belly its perfect.
Though I am getting more new garb this year, I still may not be able to afford a kilt. How sad. I am crying...really I am...and, I am heart-broken. I have been going to Highland Fest for twenty years and still havn't gotten a kilt. Tears.

Got the swatches for Toki's garb from Lady Kathleen of Olmstead today. All we both have to say is WOW. It is going to be beautiful. He in a beautiful blue and burgandy, I in a forest green and gold with gabled hood. And what is best, it is custome made for our bodies and pretty cheap when you get down to it.
So looking forward to faire.
Now that my hair is finally growing back, a bit- I might be able to wear my new hat.
well demetrius you are growing your hair and i am considering chopping mine off
I will have new accessories for garb that was new last year. I may possibly have a new cape as well. I just have to find the time to make it. :D
Auntigiggles,
I note that you hail from the Twin Cities. Will you be joining us in Larkspurshire this season?
Baron,
I am hoping to convince my hubby to go there this year. If we do attend it will be the weekend of June 26th. ;D Keeping my fingers crossed!
Oh please do come! We stand ready to welcome you heartily -- AND show you which privies will accommodate your court gown. ;)
I know this photo is rather awful ... but I still can't get the time on my camera to work! Turns out I have some new garb after all! MaritaBeth at Pendragon has modified my hot-weather doublet with shiny new buttons, and I got a new Tudor flat cap from Tall Toad to match.
All of which makes me even more anxious for Festival to begin. I'm TIRED of living in Mundania, and want to get dressed and go "home"!
You said it, Baron!! I am also anxious for Faire to begin!!
Unfortunately I will not be bringing my newest charcter out this year. Ran out of funds, but the good thing is that no matter how old I get, I can still play her when I get done.
I know how you feel Nunnie. I was going to bring my new character, Angus MacBloodthirsty, out this year...but I cannot afford a kilt or any recently severed heads.....so, I guess it will wait. But! I can still be the same old peace-loving and non-confrontational Toki Bloodaxe this year. Huzzahh?

She might be Sister Mary Clarity... in some capacity... or she won't, and will be something else. Hopefully she'll still be my Sister. However, if she doesn't, then chances are she won't. Either way there is hope. I learned about hope while watching television- it's this whole new thing from the future. Or was that Shakespeare?! Hmmm...

As time will only tell, I'm looking for a booth to work in. Have a few leads. Will see what happens. If not, I may not be at festival this year. We lost our dog sitter and it might just be a sign for me to stay home. I'm not to concerned either way. Sad thing is if I don't get a job, Demetrius will be alone in the campground as everyone else we know is not camping this year. Hope the bears don't eat him. I'd be awful lonesome.

I do believe that Red-N-Yellow is planning to camp. He'll be building a shelter out of cheap @$$ beer cans. and don't worry. the bears won't eat Deme. he's got no meat on him. ;D
Sadly, beer cans have been banished from the camp ground.
Huzzah for red-n-yellow!! Does this mean he wants to sleep under the camper again?

Why that kettle is black, quoth the pot!
I could see how a bit of teriyaki on the arms might make one appear berry-tree-ish, and yeah, watch what hey-a-u says... I hear he likes to make things up that aren't true... :D
p.s. (since this is a garb thread) Huzzah to your new pirate jacket LD!
p.s.s. I particularly like the "Acme Adjustable."
Splendid garb, LD!
Lady De Lany the pirate garb is exquisite just like all of your other outfits.
Lady De Lany,
Beautiful garb. As the others have said before me.
Thanks all. And my Katherine of Aragon dress with gabled hood should make it's apperance opening day. The pirate jacket will be for a few visits and I should have complete photo's of it by weeks end, minus a flintlock :(

When you are out of Italian, it is always with you. Like Skidmark's cart. It's a part of your persona. It counts.
