Well, goode people, we are now within double digits of the magic day. As of this morning, there are but
99 DAYS!!!
between us and opening canon!
99 days
2376 hours
142575 minutes
8554534 seconds and dropping
there should be a song:
99 days until opening canon
99 days to go . .
Hey- let's all go a day early!
98 days until opening canon
98 days to go . .
Wahoo!
You do realize this is a bit obsessive, right? Just checking.

Obsessive about faire... hmmm... we, obsessive... awlright- tis a fine idea!
Just pointing it out in case the psycho's, er Psychologists on staff missed it.
97 days, but when you lose a good friend it sure changes your perspective. I will celebrate faire in his memory...
I hear that
Hear, hear.
96 Days.......!!! Faire is far more exciting when there's a countdown that precedes it, don't you think? The anticipation of the opening cannon is "almost" as fun as when you hear that BANG!!! ALMOST....I said. I can't imagine not having a countdown!!! A "364 days" countdown is a bit of a drag, but 96 days is enough to plan, dream, perfect one's garb, entice some far-away friends to attend faire with you, and to chat about faire on the forum. Call me crazy, but I think it sounds like fun!
Obsessive, on the other hand, would be making a paper-chain (made from colored construction paper) with 364 links, then hanging it across your living room ceiling and taking off a link every morning until faire begins. However, if you started at 96 links, I don't think it would be classified as obsessive, just creative! Do it, I dare ya!

What color is YOUR chain, and how long was it when you started? :D
It is not obsessive to countdown the days to Festival. It shows enthusiasm and excitement for an event that is coming up. One can be obsessed in a good way well... for-instance chocolate can be an obsession. Overindulgence of said chocolate can be an issue... but...
I think the unhealthy obsessions are the ones who lurk and find only negative things to say about festivals. We all know who they are... the ones that constantly bring up the bad stuff whenever they get a chance. The ones who really no longer go to festival except to complain. They even try to discourage the newbies. Now those are the ones that are obsessed. They can't let it go.
Personally I am geeked to go to festival this year. I am building my new character every day. Silly, for it may not even get worn more than one day. That's my healthy obsession with having fun!
Well said, HTT!
I'm sorta planning a new character for me & the wee lad. it's a secret. not gonna tell.
antone know where I can get a top hat & tail coat to fit a 4year old? ;D
If he was younger I have a tail coat that my little guy grew out of ( dont ask)
Gee Holy, where as my comment was a joke, your own was, well, abrasive, aggressive, and vicious. Thank you ever so much for putting me in my place.
As to the discouraging newbies, needs I point you to the "Employment Thread"? Yes, indeed, I see myself doing everything in my power to discourage this poor person from seeking employment. Why, I stopped just short of telling them they'd be better of seeking a job at Burger King, didn't I? What a horrible human being I must be.

We have chains for all the faires' ;D
"It's all in the mind, you know." -George Harrison.
I am reminded of an old prayer-
God grant me the serenity to change things, the ability to accept those things I have changed, and the wisdom to know things are now different.
Okay, that's not correct, but my point is- we all make choices.
Is the faire perfect? Of course it is, but then so is everything else.
I know far too many people, who go to faires all over the country, who no longer get excited about faire for one reason or another, and I think this is sad. I'm not saying their reasons aren't valid- I'm just saying, I wish most of them would come back anyway. I understand why some won't.
I have met a few who are so upset they wish everyone else was too. If I could change that, I would, but I can't.
Like I said, we all makes choices- and my choice is to get really excited about faire- mostly because there are tons of really decent people there who I love to be around! And then there are my friends.
How could I not get excited about that?!
And let us not forget those we've lost, who can't come back. These are the people who model my perspective.
p.s. If you think this is cheesy that's fine- now you've got cheese with your whine... :) :)
I like cheese...

I've seen those gum wrapper chains and they are really cool! I've never learned how to make one yet....they are most creative! Those are the kind of chains you want to make and see how long they can get (like Lady Addilay's tied around a giant electrical spool) or HTT's 18 foot chain. They're too nice to destroy & you wouldn't want to pull them apart (ever)! Unless Dr. Freud over there forced you to, in therapy! boo hiss My kind of chain is the kind that one derives great excitement from tearing a piece off of each day and since it didn't take a whole childhood to construct....well, no worries!!!

Chilly slightly foggy morning, with the promise of clear sailing afternoon.
Although my perfect faire weather is drizzling. Just enough rain to dampen the ground and get rid of the dust and grumpy patrons so that whoever is left is having that much more fun! Although I love those torrential downpours too. Mud Joust, Mud Joust, Mud Joust!

Hot days, so I can help cool the ladies off with the cold flasks or cold days to warm up from the stuff in said flasks. ;D
I actually think it is perfect when it is raining. ;D The bubble people come out and my brother and I make "first contact". I also like when the rain makes Matt the harpist have to come into the shop and play inside. However... my new character will not like the rain so much. Too much stuff that can get heavier if it gets wet.
I like the sunny days too.
I don't like any lightening though. I'm not afraid of it, but once you have been electrocuted and survived, you can always feel the electricity in the air.
Don't worry all when the lightning starts i will stand out in the open with my sword up that way you all will know where to stay away from.
94 days!!! :)
Yech, snow, and I deplore when it rains at faire- especially the downpours. The more people the merrier!
The Baroness and I are of two minds regarding what constitutes the best Faire weather. On the one hand, we like having big crowds of newbies to play with on those warm and sunny days. On the other hand, we love those rainy days when the only folks there are employees and fanatics.
My favorite days are the ones when its slighly cloudy and light rains and on and off, and its nice and cool . It puts a kink in my business but its fantastic when your not broiling or shivering. The crowds are nicer too no over heated grumps.

I love the days it is not so hot and doesn't pour all day long. I love the days we get to the grounds and the wind is blowing nicely and the temps are in the mid to high 50's and the highest temp of the day is in the 70's to 80's. I like a little rain to keep the dust and dirt down but not enough to raise humidy levels
I do not like the days that it is so hot and muggy out it makes you miserable no matter what garb you wear.
I hope this year is a good one.

Seems so short when you look at the hours. Because you'll spend about 1/3 of those asleep, and 1/3 of those at work or school, so really you just have about 500 hours to get ready for Faire. That's hardly anything.
Point well taken, Tanda. However, since I seem to spend most of my sleep time of late DREAMING about the Faire, it's more like 1000 hours in my case. :D
A short EIGHT WEEKS from today we'll be back in Larkspurshire, my friends!

Makes me SO glad I live 2 hours north in Loveland were we only got rain and wind. I'll take both of those anyday. And here I say I live in the frozen wastelands of Northern Colorado. may i propose we greet the weekend of July 17/18 - if you do, we will partake :P
12 is no good for me on any day...but if you do it at the Dancing Bear you can wave to me. :)
how about somethin like 4:30 5ish?
Playtron-age has its advantages. Any time, any place will be fine for the Baroness and myself.

here's a thought. let's plan a meet & greet for opening day. so we can all say hello, and meet those IRL, that we've only met in this box?
I'd say, after canon, 12noon (give the boothies a chance to get through their first rush) @... dancing bear pub?
totaly open to a better place & time..... ideas?
Sounds like a plan to me.

July 17th & 18th are on a Tuesday & Wednesday...
ok so.....do we try for 4:30 @ dancing bear, or do we move it to 12n @ Zoe's booth and Deme runs across the street for a minute? oorrr..... do we gather at the rose stage between shows and sing a chorus or 2 of "The B*tard King of England"?
We will met at Zoes, Dance like a bear, and sing the verse to B*stard King of Teriyaki Chicken while Deme runs in the water wheel dressed like a Teddy Bear Hamster. at 12 noon and 4:30. we will then donate ALL procedes of the money we will make to the Hamster Adoption agency.

I thought we were talking about 2010, are we talking 2012?? ???
July 17 and 18 are a Saturday and Sunday this year, i.e., 2010. As Ziltch might say, someone seems to be funcused.
So... you are saying we should get together this year...
Well, the 17th and 18th might work, except for the annual blood letting.
What if we met by the Dancing Bear, as I suggested earlier...
4:30's about when I get my lunch break....mm, lunch....
If newbies are welcome, I'll cheerfully greet you at the Dancing Bear at 12 noon on the 12th (opening day). My pic and bio will get posted before then, I avow and aver.
Newbies are always welcome as we were all newbies once
But they do have to bring cookies....
if you need me to take the group photo tell me where you want me for the opening weekend photo

happy dance

Zoe is close to the Dancing Bear- why not get together twice...
Some nice weather might help with the count down...
Or we could just stay together from open cannon to closing cannon every day. Or work hard and avoid seeing each other the entire time. ;D

ok, Agreed. BOTH -12N @ Zoe's booth, 4:30 @ dancing bear.
next order of business, this years closing day photo. lets take it in the royal pavilion. with the Hamster king in the throne. ;D
Ooh, sounds good!
HUZZAH to that. I agree royal Pavilion is a wonderful place and a bit more centralized for many.
OH what day for group photo? Closng day Sunday? HUMMM have to see if we can make both Saturday and Sunday closing day.
I vote Sunday! (if'n it counts) as mundane school tends to keep me from Saturdays... So if there was a way for me to meet you all at once.... that would be absolutely amazing! :)
Well if it be Sunday 99% chance Toki and I won't be there unless we go closing weekend
Well drat.
The hour and a half drive to and then back wears us out. Not to mention IF we both are working full time jobs makes for a very hard Monday to get through. Last year we went closing day. We both gladly took Monday off and we were happy we did as cleaning garb MUST be sone as well recouping. When you were the dresses i wear you can only hand wash them which gives you a great appreciataion of women of that time and the care of expensive garb as well.
For those of us who plan to be there both days anyway, is there any reason we can't get together briefly on Sunday as well as Saturday?
We could always plan a regular kinda meet n greet ... but it's always a trick to work out that for those of us who are working. But a regular gathering would be fun.

I've been known to go out of my way for a nice pub, but 840 statute miles is a bit much, don't you think?
It had bloody well stop raining and snowing! >:(
But its getting sooooo close! I cant wait to see every one!
Aye, 840 miles would be a bit much ... then again, if the pub is really spectacular ...
I second the hopes for an end to the snow. At least the rain isn't as cold, and it makes things green and growing!

Okay, gang, here's what I've been told about changes for this coming season:
Cast Not Returning:
1. Marquische
2. Don Fernando, the Spanish Ambassador (he cheats, you know!)
3. Lady Crystal Waterford
Acts Not Returning:
1. Iris & Rose
Other:

It just won't be the same.
Tim is a great guy and he might be there in some capacity, though he said he would not have his puppets. I received this info weeks ago and I can only hope his situation has changed in the meantime.
He is well loved by all the children, even those who like to hit him in the knees with their wood swords.
Faire is the people ... the ones present and accounted for, the ones there in spirit, and the ones who play on only in memories. Faire is living ... always changing. CHange isn't always fun, but it generally means new opportunities.
IM crushed that Tim won't be there. I hope he is alright though...sigh.

Yes good for June 12th and 13th only.
Remember, King Soopers/City Market has discounted tickets for all the other weekends. $2 off the ticket booth price. Available 7 days a week at the Service Desk. Your local store should have them in now.

DOOOOO IT! And bring that very cool hat!
Sadly, Baron, I will not see you at MNRF on Labor Day. I never attend fest that weekend due to a long standing extended family camping weekend way up north. It's about a 3 hour drive each way from where we'll be. I know the rest of the MNRF family will welcome you most graciously and show you around our beautiful faire. Please post on the MN threads closer to your arrival and we can help with lodging, meeting times, get-togethers, etc. A perfect opportunity for you to recruit folks to CoRF for next years RenDezvous!

It was indeed Legacy Forge. Paul tore his building down after last season and they're now frantically trying to finish the building before opening day
On another note....this poor Texas girl is looking for either camping buddies or someone with a space in their booth or a bit of floor in a house to sleep in until I get paid and can pay the camping fees.

If you think MG's hat is beautiful in the picture, you should see it in person. It is not only bright, but it glows! Hope all is good your way MG.
Nice hamster rescue MG! Hope you make it this way this year!

We were waiting for you!
We are set and ready for next week! Yay!
Arrrgggg.... not me... almost tho
Looks like I'll be there EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Working with Noblesse Oblige on Saturdays and probably just playing on Sundays. :D
If you see me, PLEASE PLEASE say hi!
As anxious as I am for the season to begin, there is one moment, sure to come, that I anticipate with some degree of anxiety .... nay, dread. To wit, The Baroness' first foray into Noblesse Oblige. So Rubiee, if you have the con when that dread moment arrives, I have but one request: Be gentle.
Almost ready. Last fall I bought a pattern and cut the pieces for some pants. But we ended up not going to KC, so the cut pieces have set on a shelf for all this time. I finally got them out and turned the pieces into pants. Just have to put the buttons and snaps on and I'm good to go.
My brother and his family are visiting from OH this weekend, so we're bringing them along to opening day.
Yeah!
Jon

Do you need an advance? :)
I will have some extra 2 for 1 coupons this weekend with me if you didn't get yours.
Also Zoe had a link on her FB for coupons for the 2 weekends after that for 2 for 1 coupons.
Oh boyoboyoboy. Can we start counting down the hours now, can we, can we, can we?
Can someone kindly check my notes on rendezvous times? Here's what I have so far.
June 12, 12 noon - Zoe's booth - forgive me for asking, Zoe, but which is yours please?
June 12, 4:30 p.m. - Dancing Bear
Closing Sunday [time?] - Royal Pavilion for Closing Day photo
I'll try to smuggle in some newbie cookies but my corset's fitting pretty tight this year. If anyone should want to find me sans cookies, however, I'll be in black and green garb with a straw hat, likely sporting a deliciously non-period flogger earring from the dear boys at BARF.
My booth is the pop stand right next to the Royal Pavilion.

*giggles* But I can not promise something that I do not know will or will not come to pass. If she asks, I can not turn her down. After all, it is my job to sell the gorgeous wares of Noblesse Oblige! :D

This is killing me.
Whoo, my renbuddy just arrived in town sporting with a new full-body tattoo. No need for roses in our teeth now; you won't be able to miss us.

Hopefully that's all it is. 60% chance of rain means there's a 40% chance it will be just fine.

Huzzah!!
Weather report for this weekend is calling for temperatures in the high 80s/possible 90s....all I have to say about that is HU-FREAKING-ZAH!!! Let's just call last weekend "dress rehearsal" weekend...
It was so great to see a blue sky today after all the rain! We're making up for lost time and coming down both days this weekend and staying Saturday night in Castle Rock. Which isn't nearly as much "the middle of nowhere" as MANY other places.
