Greetings Scarby!
I will have the pleasure of enjoying your beautiful village this year for RenDezvous (HUZZAH!) and was wondering about the policy for flasks. I have a delicious libation that we enjoy at my home faire that I'd like to share with you. So, can I bring my flask or do they check 'em at the gate?
Our faire, if they see it, they make you pour it out.
The only way someone will make me pour out me flask is if they are chanting "chug chug chug'' while i tip it back. :D
Now for the serious answer: :o
Scarborough Faire is in the city limits of Waxahachie now and operates as a private club to sell beer and wine. Most playtrons bring in flasks discreetly hidden. If you flagrantly drink from your flask in the presence of law enforcement officers, the consequences could be pouring out the flask, expulsion or even arrest.
As far as I know, this has yet to happen and the regulars would like to keep it that way.
His Excellency carries 3 flasks, but he doesn't wave them under everyone's nose.
And I look forward to to seeing you at RenDevous!
Do you have a flask?
What? We don't need a flask, this is our home, you bastards.
No flask, no country. You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!
Sorry - felt a little Izzard there :P
Serious just so.... serious. :D My whole life is serious, that's why i love faire... because it is not.
So a bota full of Loki would be out, huh? Damn, looks like i'll have to drink it all before cannon. ;D

Yeah walking in with a
bottle would probably be frowned upon! :o
Lol... my wine skin, when full of loki, could wipe out a full squad.
Me flask stays in me sporran, until needed.

Just one flask?
And you call yourself a Scot?(http://www.wench.org/forums/images/smilies/bagpipessmiley6jj.gif)
Lol... I hope to have a whole fifth of Scotch & Drambuie finished BEFORE cannon.
The flask is to tide me over until later. ;)
I've never had a problem with my flask...though I do keep it hidden when walking through the gates ;)

I will take you up on that! What do you look like? I will be most likely over with Eloquent. Seeing as how she is the Dirt Fairy's (my daughter) favorite friend! lol! ;)
Elo knows me... and we are staying at the same hotel, Lass, during RenDezvous. I'l be the big, long haired Scot... howling at the moon... at 3am. :D
lol! You should be easy to spot! ;) See you in a few days! ;D
My pirate coat has pockets for 6 loki flasks, or my belt pouches (4-6) always have loki flasks in them, my bota bag is always full of rum (well, starts off full at least) and I have never once been asked anything about any of it.
I have been stopped on the way out of the gate to empty my mug which can be a bit of comedy in itself depending on how full it is at the time. And can make the walk to the car a bit less than straight arrow.
*The day I am asked to pour out my rum is the last day I attend a faire... that would be extremely expensive for me*
The official policy is no outside food or drink, so if we find it when coming through the gate you have 2 choices back to the car with it or label it and leave it in lost&found til you leave for the day
Grrrrr..... I ordered 2 flasks...only to find out later that they are being shipped from CHINA !
Looks like I'll be following around Fraser to sneak a nip from his.
His flask, that is.
If I can get some nice glass bottles blown at faire this time... I may purchase a couple of those to add to Merlins magic potion carriers.

So would that include even a water bottle?

What is this "water" you speak of?
Is it finely aged in wooden casks for 12-18 years?
Fraser.... you and I should try some of this "water" stuff one day.... perhaps the English are on to something.
Hmmmmm.....
Ach no, Laddie... i tried that "water" stuff once... nary a buzz and i wasn't thirsty for an hour.

I would say yes, Iain. They sell water in the faire, why would they let you bring in your own? I don't intend that sentence to be as snarky as it sounds. The faire needs to make money in order to run, hence the no outside food and drink.
we will normally let one water bottle slide

What about if you replace the word "one" with "2 or 4" and the word "water" with "scotch" and the word "bottle" with flask?
Not me of course.... but Fraser is a sneaky one.
well lets do the math - a roughly 2000 patrons to get in the gate for opening cannon 8 scots working the gates and we have to check to make sure weapons are peace tied, patrons are not bringing in food or drink, scan or tip rickets and do itr in about 20 seconds. we do the best we can but some slips through.

Hey! You're the one that rides the Dragon's Breath! I have to use distraction...
"LOOK! a Unicorn!" *rolls 5 gallon cask by gate guard*

WEE! I will point you out to each other. He is a really tall, dark-haired, good lookin' Scot. ;)
Well then...
I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of flask or flasks on my person at the time of my entrance into the Scarborough Renaissance Festival grounds.
However, I do promise to be discreet if/when I should consume any beverages either alcoholic or non from said flask or flasks that may or may not be on my person at the time of my occupation of said festival grounds. ???
;D ::) ;D
Might I also add that any covert introduction of any libation on my part...not saying that there is any.... just hypothesizing... (Fraser...that means... "as if") ... in no way effects the amount of money I would spend on spirits inside the faire..... once again.... just "as if".
The Cat N Fiddle will see me more than they care to.... which brings me to my thread derail... anyone doing the wine tasting? I'll do it again if there's a group here that wants to.... it's really pretty awesome!
MMMM, Rusty Nail! Long shot of scotch, and a shot of Drambuie! Delicious!

I'm assuming it is still OK to bring in refillable containers for Friends of Faire children to use at the FoF areas for H2O/Gatorade. No one has ever said a word about them. Heck, I don't even remember the guards asking to empty them on the way out either. (BTW, this actually reduces the FoF operating cost because they don't have to keep giving out paper cups.)
Flask? What flask? ::) *glug glug glug*
Oh... THAT flask... well, your Honor, if'n ye look inside yer'll see for yerself that it tis empty... *time to head to the truck for a refill*
Honestly, my bringing in flasks makes money for the faire.
I am not a big beer drinker (I will have some on occasion but not that often really) and if I am not mixing rum into a soda I wont buy that either. I would just drink water all day. If I am having rum and soda I will have them often... like a lot of often... like... continously. If I am drinking water, just a little every now and then.
*And then people I am with generally have quite a bit of my rum with their sodas too*

That's good to know. Ever since I suffered from heat exhaustion years ago, I have been more prone to overheating. If I had to constantly hit the water fountains and buy water, I would be broke and doing nothing else.
I certainly respect the right of establishments to prohibit outside food and drink, but I've only once encountered a location that extended that to water as well.
Sorry for the semi-hijack ...
I don't think anyone cares if you bring in an empty flask. It's the contents that can cause problems for the faire.
I normally bring 2 flasks. But I keep things discreet and not wave them under anyone's nose. In three years I've never had an issue on the way in. Only once was asked about it on my way out.
Tolerance depends on how well people play and it only takes one to mess things up for everyone else.
I have an empty flask :( What should I put in it??? ::) ;) I need Loki! ;D

I will be looking for you at opening! Or seek me out. I am blind as a bat- but Rusty Nails! AHHH! It has been ages! Lord A's favorite drink.
The flask I carry is for show only and contains nothing anyone needs to be concerned about (hic!) ;D
