Turkey Leg! I just can't seem to get a turkey leg outta my head... :P Guess that will be on my 'to do' list.
Just about anything from Palace of Pasta Pleasures or ribs... Does mead qualify as food?
Anyone who knows me knows what I've been craving for a good 3 or 4 weeks.....
Meat Pie from the kitchens of Sir Gareth at the Rose & Crown Inn
Scotch Egg... Sausage on a stick... Meat on a stick
pasta. Specifically the Roses although the salads there are really good as well. The fish & chips are a guilty pleasure as well. Best eaten at the FOF area while watching Doktor Kaboom.
Steak on a stake....quiche lorraine...fish and chips....kings nuts....mmmmmm are we there yet?
Troll toes come to mind, however they seem to be rare and hard to find.
*hee hee hee... she said "kings nuts"* :D
Nothin' earth shatterin' here. Turkey Leg! I had one at Norman...not nearly as good as Scarby's. Also like the Rogue Sandwich, Scottish Eggs and oh, first thing in the morning after a few minutes watching opening gate activity...I hang a left and grab a ginger scone at the bakery!!
I am so ready for breakfast at the bakery! Last year the turkey and cheese pockets were sooooo yummy! :P

That was going to be my exact statement! My choice of food is usually the Steak on a stake. I like the gyros, but they're so messy to eat in garb.
I have discovered a new love recently...the pork pockets. OMG! They're so moist and flavourful, and not covered in barbecue sauce, so they're not heavy. LOVE THEM!
One of each. Not all on the same day of course.
The pasta and the breakfasts from the bakery. The pork pockets sound good - may have to try them this season.
Gyros are dandy. My squire lives on them. ;D
Definitely a fan of the pasta. :-)
Scotch Egg!
I allow myself one per season.

Per
season?
Geeesh.... I try to hold myself to one per day but that's where I draw the line.
Shrimp bowl is good too.
I get a bag of Kings nuts every weekend too.
My fasting starts now.... drop 4 pounds by Saturday.... put 6 on by Monday.
Oh yea !
Oooh! And kettle corn! ::Homer-like drooling::
After a long strut on a hot day - love the King's Wraps! Huge, filling, but not heavy.
I love the Stake on a stick.

I was told they weren't as good last season as they were the season before....will have to try them when I save my quarters from the week to afford food inside the gates.
If they have the steamed artichokes like they do at Bristol, all will be outstanding.
Steak on a stake and lots of beer ;)

OOoooo - sounds great! Thanks for th' tip Darlin'!
There's usually something appealing at the bakery, I seldom get the same thing twice there. Other than that, gotta confess, I love th' Scarby Turkey Legs. I don't get 'em anywhere else!
I like to end my day with the chocolate dipped macaroons from the bakery, though it's always enjoyable to get a plain brownie from there and then hit Lady MacArthur's and top it with raspberry pepper jelly. :)

YUM! I am definitely going to try the brownie with Lady MacArthur's Pepper jelly! I love her shop! The best part is all the tasting til you find what you like! lol ;)
I love the child sized turkey legs, Gyros and peasant bread!
Steak on a stake!!!!
I've never tried a turkey leg, some day at fair I just might.
My favorite was the Beef kabobs...so sad those went away. the combo TEMPURA is my current obsession

So, are the child-sized turkey legs the size of a toddler, or perhaps as large as a teenager? I'm thinking perhaps we could all chip in and split a teenager-sized turkey leg.
Three of our grandkids shared one last season!
Right now, I'm craving everything! Can't wait until TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have soothed my cravings for a meat pie....until next weekend anyway

Same here...for turkey legs, rogue sandwich, cinnamon nuts, funnel cake, pork pocket and diet Dr. Pepper!!!
I didn't get to quite satisfy my craving of meeting new friends and talking with old friends though...I only saw Meg and Merlin...caught a glimpse of Queen Bonnie in the lanes but she was far away....
In other words :P More people need to come visit me! :P
I tried the new pretezle wrapped sausage. I will recomend. My DH had the meatball wrap. He does recomend you have several napkins on hand, but it is very good.

we'll find you next week!
I'll 2nd the pretzel suasage. This is it's second year. They usually sell out quick and there's been a waiting line everytime I've gone to get one. (In between the beer tavern and fried ice cream)
And the Fish N Chips! Good food and the Lady who takes orders makes it worthwhile with her commentary. :D
Shepard's pie at Rose and Crown Inn was to die for. :)
How are the fish and chips? Sorry when I was over seas in NZ I got spoiled on good british fish and chips. Have yet to find any that match close enough.
This weekend the stir Fry & the steak on a stick was tempting me as well.
I had a sausage calzone which was AWESOME and only $3.50
Joan of Arc had some good looking pasta dish thing too.
Fish and chips were pretty good also.
Yea.... I pigged out.
I am saving my pennies for Rendez so I can actually enjoy some faire food this season.
I did so well this weekend! I was very tempted to buy food inside the gates but my preserverence won!
And I like being able to sit outside and have a sandwich or two.
That's my faire food for now. :P
The pasta on Saturday was Val's Special, and quite tasty. Linguine with a garlic butter sauce, tossed with green beans, potatoes and bell peppers. Victor also had Spuma this weekend, aka "chocolate heaven in a cup". Le yum!
Sunday I went with the Schnitzel at the German booth. VERY yummy, with a creamy mushroom sauce over noodles.
The bakery has puff pastry triangles with either ham and cheese or egg and cheese. I got an egg and cheese one for breakfast on Sunday and then went down to Lady MacArthur's to add three different kinds of salsa to it.
And since Scratch was back, I resumed my daily routine and picked up three chocolate drizzled macaroons at the bakery on my way up to closing gate. One is for me, one is for Scratch, and one is for whoever I run into that I feel like giving it to. :)
I actually bought more food this weekend than I normally will. I just indulged a bit since it was Opening Weekend. From now on I'll probably buy one thing per day, and eat what I brought with me for the rest of the day. But it was fun doing the indulging!!! ;D

I'll try to come over this Saturday between Stardancer belly dance shows (11, 12, 2, 4 & 5:30). I'm really looking forward to the Joust, but doubt if I'll make it this Sat.
But getting back to the thread...I satisfied my craving last week for the Palace of Pasta Pleasure and a gyro ;)
OMG! Food at your faire sounds heavenly! I really don't eat much at the MN faire. All pretty wonder bread plain.
**Slim Fast until next weekend for MG**
;D
No worries MG, you'll walk off what you eat within minutes lol! One thing about faire is that you can eat all day and be hungry all day... all that walking will do it.

That is true! Plenty of exercise.....
Did anyone notice the turkey legs on Sunday though, a bit small they were.......very small turkeys or large chickens they was. I know too that they gotta make a few pounds off of the sale of the buggers, but $7 for about 50 cents worth of turkey meat...I'll stop complainin' though, and probably eat 3 or 4 more of 'em this season.

i've always wondered why some turkey legs are so large.... someone playing genetic tic-tac-toe? :o ;D
I want the fruit and cheese plate they sell after the wine tasting at the Cat and the Fiddle! It was just perfect last year in the heat, and I'm hoping they won't sell out this year before I can get one!

You can get the fruit and cheese plate at the Rose and Crown Inn. It was $5 and was pretty plentiful. I'm assuming that it's a standard item on the menu.

It is indeed a standard item on the menu. Anything that comes out of the Rose & Crown Inn Kitchens is amazing. Do try the enchilada soup! It's absolutely phenomenal!!...and the meat pies....and the Shepard's pie....
Oh, nice! The only one I saw while I was there was the offering they had with the wine tasting, and I just got one of the leftovers. It was $5, though, so it's most likely the same thing. Good to know... thanks for the info! :)

I agree with Squire Gaby. Met my parents there for lunch. Dad had Shepard's pie, Mom had the cheese and fruit plate and I had the Tomato Mozzarella dish. All of it was so yummy! Will definitely go back.
My daughter and I split the fruit and cheese plate, and we couldn't finish all the cheese! It could have used another bunch of grapes, a bit of pineapple, but overall it was wonderful, and it will be a staple on any trip we make to Scarby from now on! So nice and light, and refreshing, and they even gave us extra crusty bread for free!
The muffalato sandwich at the Rose And Crown Inn is very good! But I can't tell if they serve it every weekend... ???

I like the turkey legs, but they're hard to eat with all this facial hair! Steak-on-a-stick is good... Rose and Crown is AWESOME!!! ...and then there's the beer...the fifth major food group.
My newest favorite: Steak and cheese sandwich. Go to the French Booth by Victor's pasta and get the cheesy bread, then go to the steak on a stake booth and get a nice, medium rare steak. Put steak between slices of cheesy bread...and NOM! :)
oooh. what an idea. How drippy is it?

It may be that turkeys, like people, are unique and individual. They possess legs in a variety of sizes. Not all thighs are fat and juicy due to genetics. But they are still worthy of love and appreciation, regardless.
Let's just leave the sexual innuendos out of this if you don't mind...they're making me crazy....
Actually, I was speaking of love in a philos aspect rather than eros, Merlin. Turkeys are worthy of more than just the physical kind of love. Especially the Scarby turkey legs. Those are worthy of a love that is on a higher plane than sexual innuendo. Turkeys truly are above that kind of thing.

It depends on how rare-ish you get your steak on a stake. Towards the medium rare side can get a bit drippy, though the bread does help catch the juices. But the cheesy-bread comes in foil, so I usually just wrap that around the end of the sandwich, then wrap THAT in napkins, and it does the trick of catching everything just fine.

Oh! Novie (Capt Latimer) walked by me last weekend with one of those in his hand. I asked him what it was - he said HEAVEN and made me try a bite. He was right! Heaven indeed!!!
I have yet to get over to the Pasta Palace, or to get my favorite, the Queen's Orange Delight. Last year, not a day went by without one. This year - I haven't managed to get one at all. Cravings are all but gone for me.

Sorry, m'Lord...wasn't being critical (I should have used ;) ) It's just that with all my experiences over the past millennium or so, pretty much
everything can be construed as an innuendo.
Merlin, I'm kidding about turkeys being on a higher plane. ;)
The best food I can remember having at Scarborough Faire was actually brought to Faire by Guy Roberson, when he was working with Joe and Gary at the Book Faire. Guy made the most amazing Scones, with imported English Clottted Cream, and they were still warm from the oven when I got to the book store right after opening cannon. (Then Guy built and operated the wood-fired brick oven bakery at Hawkwood, where he baked the best Herb Breads served with Real Butter. My mouth is watering... ;) )
The best meal I've bought at Scarborough Faire was just about anything from Victor's Pasta Palace!
And, on a hot May day, the plates of Fresh Fruit from the stand in the Holly Field were so light and refreshing.
Take Care,
David Baldock

Without that plane, I don't think the turkeys would be flying. What's worse is, without their legs, they'll have a difficult time boarding said plane, unless it's astral in nature.
Ahh...but I digress. At this moment, I am craving all of the above! I'm guilty of not trying something new each day. The FoF preview this year made me want to branch out. I thought the food there was pretty darn tasty, but I've a lot of German blood in me and that was the selected cuisine.
I will say that I've never had anything bad at Scarby.

I haven't tried it yet, but my husband has fallen into a deep infatuation with the new pretzel wrapped sausage. He says it's the best thing he's had out there yet.
Now, talking about the bakery opens up a whole new set of possibilities. I like to end my day with three of the chocolate macaroons (one for me, one to share, and one for Scratch/The Poet), but another of my favorites is to get one of their brownies, take it to the Pepper Lady's booth and spread it with Raspberry Pepper Jam and enjoy.
There's some thoughts to get you going on new things to try! ;D
I have started to avoided the Scottish eggs towards the end of Scarborough. I don't know if they stop replacing the cooking oil or the eggs themselves get old but they start tasting odd towards the end of Faire.
Last weekend the bakery had a cheesecake topped brownie. Richer the Bill Gates! Deeeeelicious!!!!
Yes, the bakery has some kind of concoction filled with dark chocolate and hazelnut.
Talk about sugar rush!
