Title: Big Birthday present...
Post by: The Amadan on May 30, 2008, 12:54:54 PM
My stepson is going thru a divorce... his dog is a victim of the division.

So, we have agreed to take their purebred English Mastiff:

For those not familiar with the breed, they can grow quite large:

Though very intimidating (200lbs +), to some people, Zeus is a very docile, submissive & obedient boy, who was raised around babies & little kids. Mary & I have a soft spot for gentle giants.
We pick him up Saturday. Our German Shepherd looks forward to his adoptive big-little brother...

(donations to the dog food drive can be made at....)LOL  ::)

Good Lord in Heaven!!  My parents had a pair of Rotts (female 125 lbs and Male 145 lbs) and I thought THEY were big!!!!!  Although, I learned from my parents that even the biggest and most aggressive breeds can be great family pets.  They were both the most well behaved, protective dgs I'd ever seen as well as having such well-defined personalities.

Good luck with Zeus!!  Or should I say Good Luck keeping him fed!!!  ;)

OMG! I love big dogs... :sigh: they are so cute and cuddly. If you breed your sons mastiff with another pure mastiff, PLEASE let me know. I am wanting another dog to help fill the void of loosing my 13 month old rottie. He was 100lbs. I want another big puppy. (Although a little large to be considered a pup)

Congrats of being able to take him in. I am sorry to hear about the reason for you needing to take him.

(Psst. just so people know those are photoshopped) mastiffs do get pretty big, Most of them are just above waist high at the head. They are sooo amazing, they usually don't have enough energy to do much of anything except eat and be happy lol but they're soo sweet.. (Yes, I do work at Petsmart)

How kind of you to take the pooch for your stepson.  It's unfortunate when good dogs like that end up going to shelters because of what happens with their people.  Good luck with him, a dog like that will be a handful!  Sounds like "Zeus" is a proper name for him!   ;D

Congrats!!  What a wonderful thing.

I agree with those that love the gentle giants.  I've been volunteering with the Saint Bernard Rescue for over 10 years.. and I wouldn't know what to do without a big lug around.

English Mastiffs are such wonderful dogs... you're lucky to have him.. and him you!

We got Zeus home, safe & sound.
At 1st, he was a bit unsure, but he has rapidly made himself right at home.
He gets along great with our German Shepherd, and was quite good, out in public, when we took him for his first walk in the neighborhood.
Wife snapped a pix:
