What beautiful weather for an opening weekend. No blazing sun, no snow, temperature was about right! Very nice. We had a great weekend of shopping and renewing friendships. Nice to have met so many of you this weekend - we counted about 45 new faire friends. A bit disappointed that we didn't meet some of you. Saw several from a distance but couldn't get to you. Another disappointment was that there was no pipe 'n drum group...and I know Sloan Wolfe will be there one weekend, but we missed hearing those gorgeous notes floating through the air. Saw Adam Crack for the first time (on our "recommended list"), it'll be nice when Don Juan is healed although the show went on and was hilarious, the German Twins and Iris & Rose were "on", and QAL was relaxing as always. Didn't see the new Joust but will next week when the kids are with us. We spent too much money on new garb, but like fun, you never can have too much garb. Still recovering from Faire fare, but I couldn't help myself. We have plans to make every single weekend this year for the first time ever, so what we missed, we won't miss.
We have our reservations for next Saturday night at the Super 8, where we stayed and didn't meet anyone we thought we would although we met some great folks (at Super 8 and Ryan's) and enjoyed visiting with them. Will be putting our photos on photobucket soon and will leave the link in the photo thread.
See you all next weekend. Oh, and thanks to everyone who was there for an....unforgettable Saturday night.
We will be back again for Rendezvous and I am sure we will see y'all that weekend! ;D
Lookin' forward to it...
Ryk, it figures that it won't be until Rendezvous that I'll get to finally meet you in person. Two seasons and I have yet to actually meet you yet (right?)! I am determined to do so!
Opening Weekend was a blur. Saturday, seemed too much a blur, at least for me. Had some camera issues this weekend, figures, right before Rendezvous so I'm not happy about it but I'm just having to say oh well and deal with it. Weather was beautiful, though a tad on the warm side. Glad we all managed to wrangle up together and take a group photo at the Dirty Duck pub. I think it'll be a great Meet 'n Greet and photo opportunity for the rest of the season (minus Rendezvous.) Almare/Gretchen ended up coming down with heat exhaustion in the afternoon so we took off at about 5 o'clock. She's feeling much better after rest and hydration. Sunday was much more relaxed, was able to stroll along in the lanes and just enjoy running into who or what I did.
The cast did an incredible job, there were wonderful new additions along with many familiar faces I was so glad to see.
Great start to the season, and unless by chance I make it out next Sunday, I won't see everyone til Rendezvous.
Can't wait for it. ;)
Holy crap-stain!
Did anyone else see the Fire Whip guy?
That show is awesome ! ! !
I was there both days from canon to close....and still didn't get to see everything I wanted to.
Luckily for me I'll be going again.... about 8-10 more times.
I met a charming couple from Colorado and for the life of me... I can't remember their names. Very well dressed, they were.
Meeting Angus was a real treat.... such a fine gentleman.
I met the "Moderator"... DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN <--- dramatic music at the FOF area.
The entire weekend seems like a blur....even the sober parts. I wish I could remember peoples names better... Al-Nimer... I saw both days.
Of course...Melkar... what a wonderful guy! GREAT photographer.
Donna and Don Juan.... lovely as always.... wonderful wine, by the way!
Joan of Arc.... has been working out... looks tough!
Squire Gaby...poor thing... looked so hot... in both ways! (See what I did there)
The MacKees.... always a treat. These are people I would hang out with if we didn't live 300 miles apart.
Soooo many wonderful people.... I thank you all for making the opening weekend a very special day for me and my family.
I saw you, but didn't get to say Hi Merlin.. I was standing near you a lot that day actually..

Awwwww.... why not? I'm not scary anymore.... always say hi to Merlin!
.... or I'll turn you into a newt.
You even have three pictures with me in it from out in the parking lot ;)
Aawwwww Merlin, that is so very kind. It is a bummer sometimes that Texas is so big, lol. But, we have two more trips to Scarby and you have to make at least one weekend to TRF! I'll protect ya from Fraser and that sleigh ride lol! His shins are an easy target for me, tee hee! ;)
Not if i put my hand on your forehead and keep you at arms length... ;D
He'd better get to TRF this year. No Sleigh rides(won't do that to a fellow OCM) but duct taping him inside The Church O' the Lady O' Blue Water is still an open option. :D
I fear not brother Fraser.... He knows not of my alliance behind his back.
LOL

That is not correct...you have to remember A) I'm an idiot and B) I only associate people with their forum name and picture.

Merlin, I am guesing you met our very good friends the Baron and Baroness von Richthofen from Colorado. We were hoping to meet up with them there, but we will be attending this coming weekend (which I guess we will miss you).

Holy cow... YES I did meet them. What a wonderful couple they are. We met near the Fire Whip guy.... I will miss you next week...sooo sad to say... I have to be at NASCAR... Jeff and Jimmy wont stand a chance if I don't show up.
Your friends were so magnificent ... very nice people. I know you will enjoy Scarborough as much as they did.... make sure you go see the Fire Whip guy... when you come in the gate...hang a left and go as far as you can to the left.... there's also a Friends of the Faire area right next to his stage... this is an exclusive area but you guys are welcome to come inside and get a free cold splash of water or "swill" or gatorade. I spoke with faire management and they assured me that all out-of-staters were more than welcome in both FOF areas. If anyone gives you any crap....tell them Merlin sent ya.
Gramercy Merlin, we are looking forward to your faire. We visited for the first time last year (we are still neophites!) and plan on making this an annual progress.
If I wasn't a part of 50+ other campers at NASCAR I would cancel that and show up at Scarby... we have been camping camping together for about 10 years now at NASCAR... it's ren faire but a different costume.... lol.
You will enjoy Scarby I am sure of this.... check out Fire Whip guy for sure.... he is awesome.
There are so many incredible shows...hard to take it all in on just one weekend.... may be a good idea to copy down the times of the shows....
I wish I could be there.

I met them by Pendragon. Wonderful couple she even had the same p&s camera I had. We talked about 15 minutes about Germany (Rae and I and some friends are going this Sep) and other things rennie. Was a pleasure to meet them.
Merlin, Gauwyn and Reaper,
You are all much, much too kind. Believe me, the pleasure of meeting all of you was entirely ours.
We had an absolutely wonderful time this past weekend. Were it practicable, we would be there every day of your entire season (at least until the temperatures hit the triple digits)! At minimum, we would be back to enjoy it with M'Lord of Bracknell and his Duchess. Alas, adult life does have a habit of intruding.
We truly love coming to Scarby. Your cast is wonderfully open and interactive, and your patrons just seem to be far more "into it" than most other faires. (We estimate that at least 50% of your patrons were in garb this weekend; in Colorado, you may get 20% on an exceptionally good day, it pains me to say.)
To all of you who took the time to chat with us, we can only say sincere thanks for the wonderful memories. For those we missed, we hope to see you next year. In the meantime, we'll keep an eye on this space.

We shall indeed meet this season m'lady. We were way across the park at the end of parade so we missed the gathering at the Dirty Duck, but you're right, it'll be a greeat place for Meet 'n Greet each week. Can't wait until Rendesvous!

Holy crap indeed Batman (I mean Merlin). Adam put on an incredible show! I have some great photos of him under the photo thread (link to my bucket). We passed by you once Merlin, but my wife was in a hurry to get to the hair braider and that was very important to us (at least that is what I was told). We are going every weekend so I will look forward to claspin' hands with you for sure. Like Eloquent said, twas a big blur this weekend - tryin' to do too much. But we'll slow the pace down a bit hence and try to find some of the great folks on here that we haven't met. Oh, we did spend quite a bit on new garb and accessories too, but I'm told that that was a good thing.
Baron! It was lovely to meet you and your Lady! We hope to venture to Colorado sometime soon. Not sure if it is in the cards this year, but definitely soon!
What is Don Juans injury?
The whip guy is AWESOME. For the ladies (or gay men) he ends the show shirtless with a flaming whip. YUM! Looks like another great show to watch after the chess match from the FOF area with a plate of fish & chips.
Merlin: I was the 1 chick there not in garb. I'm Al-Nimers wife & yes I do garb most of the time but not that day because of plans we had that night (didn't want to get too tired).
Can't wait for Rendevous weekend!
I think he said he tore his Achilles' tendon, Cowgrrl. So he can't chase Miguel around the stage just now, but it was still a great show!
We managed to catch only a wee bit of the flaming whip show on Saturday and plan to try to catch a full show soon!
The Baroness and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you as well, Lady Kett, and do most heartily hope to see you in Larkspurshire this season. We will be there every day, and may or may not be on cast, but either way will enjoy welcoming you.
Had a great first weekend

I can confirm he tore his Achilles' tendon. On Saturday I spoke with one of the guys who runs the first aid tent at CRF. He said Don tore it in the early show at AZRF on closing day.

I spoke to him personally and he did tear it AND had to have it surgically repaired, a very rough injury indeed. He will likely be wearing the cast at least 4 more weeks. What a trooper though! Hey, it brought down the mighty Achilles but Don Juan is still fightin' thru!
