OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :-X Sept 26th I beleive. i have it off from work AND its PAYDAY!!!!!
Jenn is going to get that day off to, we will have to bring the kidlets and even might let Casey out of school for it.
I loved walking around last year and having a blast, I bought a lot too.
Gin and I already have it off!
Fest Friday is one of my favorite days at faire!..
After last year there's no way I'm missing a fest Friday ever again. Count me in!
No way I'm missing it...last year was one of the best days I've had at fest, at least one of the best I remember!
Hopefully the Mead booth will be open this year

I'm not sure that will happen, even though I'd like to see it open too. If I remember, they weren't serving alcohol because of all the minors.
I thought the mead booth wasn't open because they had no one to work it on Fest Friday last year?!. For some reason, I thought I heard that from the gals who works the booth?..
I think I heard about a half dozen reasons why or why not the alcohol conecessions were open/closed. regardless, I found the best place for a cool, refreshing beverage on fest Fridays; my friends at BadgerBlades. ;D
uh.. I think Foaming Stein was open last year... as I was supposed to work, but got screwed over by my "real" job.. good thing I don't have one of those things anymore... :P
xoxo
:-*
As I remember, there were plenty of places to find "adult" beverages open that day. Some of the pubs were closed, but most of the beer booths were open.
The bottom line is, fest Friday is just one heck of a fun day to spend at fest! A lot of people think it sux because of all of the kiddies out there, but that is so wrong.
OK...I know our merchant friends don't really like that day, but us playtrons do! It's a great day to shop. Lots of places have great deals that day. It's a great day to actually talk to the merchants about things, as they are not that busy.
And, after 3:00 pm when all the kiddies go home we pretty much have the place to our selves.
Seriously, as a playtron there is NO better day to be at faire then fest Friday!....

Aye....I remember getting several refreshing beverages there that day.... ;D
I had a great time on Fest Friday! We actually went into every single shop along the route. That's not saying we went into every shop at faire!
Big fun hanging out with friends and tasting that new beverage blends from BadgerBlades. OK, say that 5 times fast! lol
I say we pillage the Mead Boothe and take it over to Groomporters and drinka nd play games all day!

Oh! I just remembered, I won't be there! This year Feast of the Hunters' Moon competes with the last weekend of fest, so I'll be on the way to Indiana on Festival Friday with the portable gaming hall to do 18th century.
I am hoping to get that day off but I think LD has school all day that day...... Have to check on that one.
I shall be in Foaming all day. We never have enough people to man the booths so I usually end up in there the whole time. The JCs usually have maybe half the booths open. Mead booth is usually closed due to lack of people to work it which makes me a sad bunny.
I'll most likely be there, as for the little ones, well time will tell.
oooo me me me! I will be there! Depending on scheduling...it will probably be about noon when I can get there! (i'll take my garb to school that day! :-)
I think Brandi and I are going to have to try and see if we can do Friday this year. I've always wanted to but was never able to swing it. But maybe it'll work out this year?
Woooo Hooooo!!!! I got Fest Friday off! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'll be there this year as well. I never noticed that they weren't serving alcohol last year. I guess I bring enough of my own and have plenty of friends that do too!
HUZZAH to friends with booze!!!!
If anything, since I don't have to work my booth that day ;D I'm going mainly for moral support for those that are stuck at theirs... ;D
Synn u and Toar can ride with us.
Its the best shopping day ever.
i should FOP it out and really embarras some kids hehe

I thought we had someone to go with me but they can't take the Friday off. It's an event that is even older than MNRF and can be as busy as the busiest weekends at MNRF so we need at least one more person to go with me http://www.tcha.mus.in.us/feast.htm
We leave very, very early Friday morning and come back early Monday morning. We camp on site behind our "gaming hall" tent. We pay for all your food, and we can provide a sleeping bag, a modern cot, propane heaters if it's cold, and may have some loaner clothes if you don't
have something that can pass as roughly 18th century.
You can get an idea of what we look like when on the road at http://historicgames.com/jury.html
I start a new job tomorrow so...doubt I'll have a full day of PTO to burn for it sadly.
I work Thursday night but have Fest Friday off! I plan on going after a little post-work nap. :D
I'm hoping to make it!
I'll be out with the Morning shift.
I'd like to go... maybe I'll take a half-day off of work...
I have the day off and will be working Thursday night, but will spend a good amount of time running around site that day confiscating cigarettes from kids. It's awesome, it doesn't matter if they are 18 if they are with a school group the same rules apply as if they were at school so no smoking at all. We always pile our stock in the back yard and everyone picks out their brand. I once made out with a whole weekend's worth of smokes. Go me!
I'm planning on it, apparently I won't be smoking...
;D
I know Dreg.....Try being her roomate...hehehe.... ;D :P

I'd take the morning half off if I were u as the afternoon seems eerily quiet. Is it because the faire closes early like at 5pm??? or does it just seem closed?
I don't think the faire closes early... People just clear out.... More fun for us!! ;D
It is still open until 7 but once the school groups leave between 1-3 the whole place dies and the adults that are still there (all maybe 20 of them) have free reign of the place.
The down fall is that there are less beer and food booths open, some shops don't open, some shows don't run, and most of the entertainers are at their regular jobs.
However, Vilification Ping Pong is pretty funny. It is all really low key yo momma jokes...

Vil ping-pong, how could I forget!!! Fun stuff, love the last few hours of Fest Friday! seriously one of my more enjoyable days at Fest.
Those last few hours after the kiddies have cleared out IS what makes fest Friday so enjoyable!
Fest Friday is one of my favorite days of the year at fest by far!
Brandi and I are really looking forward to it. I'm excited to go. But still bummed that it'll mean it's the last weekend of fest. Got to take the good with the bad I guess.
does anyone have a list of what is open or not and what the grid would be that day?
The grid for that weekend most likely won't be posted until tuesday or wednesday of that week. As for what is open..?? Generally most shoppes are open. Usually at least one of each foodbooth is open. And I thought that last year there was a little under half of the alcohol booths open. And there is only one Feast of Fantasy that day, the last one of the day (starts at...4:30???)
If it is like the past couple of years. Most of the food booths will be open, with the exception of the Cartwheel Cove food court (the one by Queens Pub). That entire court has been closed the last 2 years. A lot of the beer and wine booths will be open, but I don't think that any of the pubs or the Mead booth will be.
Pretty much all of the shoppes will be open (I think they have to be by contract?). A lot of places will have good deals that day too! The shoppe where many of us have gotten our rings usually have most of their stuff 50% of that day!
A lot of the street acts won't be there. At least not in character. Fitz was there last year in mundanes (he don't do fest Fridays!) and it was fun to talk to him out of character for a bit.
I didn't get to hang out the one weekend I worked there, wish I could have.
I've worked at the Muskogee faire, and they have a Castle with the same idea of Bad Manor during opening hours, but after hours they reopen the Castle as a bar for the workers there with a cover charge.
When I was at Minn it was a tent/bar that was open, I don't recall the name tho seeing as it was back in 2001.
That would be the BLT.

Yeah the first year Fest Friday was optional for crafters, but now they require us to be open. Even our game booth is a long dreadfully boring day as most of the kids don't bother to check us out.

Sorcha and I both have the day off...We missed last year so looking forward to the experience.

Groomporters got the cards and table all we'll need is munchies and liquid refreshments.

Texas Holdem by chance... ;D
to be 'period'(during festival hours) we'll have to play with 20 card deck,
the 52 card deck didn't come about till the 1800's
come to think of it i doubt Texas Hold'em or even Poker itself wouldt be historically correct. . . :(
we better consult groomporter he would know :-\
well looking around the www.
for historical purposes, poker does not seem be the best game of choice(or chance).
let's have groomporter work out the details since he's hosting this event. ;)
Yeah the earliest written reference to Poker is about 1839, if I recall properly. How about we teach you a more period multi-player card game like Pope Joan?
Besides you'll have to play with the wife anyway. I'll have left about 4am for Lafayette, Indiana for Feast of the Hunters' Moon which competes with the last weekend of MNRF every couple of years.

Actually there's a very clear description of a 52 card deck by a German monk dating from the 1370's*, -although you are definitely correct in that there were quite a number of early games that were played with "short" decks using fewer cards.
*And contrary to popular belief Tarot cards started showing in Italy about about 60 years -after- standard cards.
I'm up for some Pope Joan! ;D
The wife would probably appreciate the distraction since it end up a long, dull day -as well as a chance to meet some of the people I interact with online. (She does the phone, I do Email)
Poker? Did someone say poker?!?! ::) I'm so there.....
I'm really looking forward to Fest Friday. In all the years I've been going the Faire, I've never been there on Fest Friday!

Woot! I just got the day off work, so I'll be attending Fest Friday! Probably afternoon only - I don't wanna spend too much time amongst the gobs of kids.
Does faire still stay open until 7 on Friday? Anybody know if there will still be shows in the afternoon even with it being all quiet?
We are open until 7. There are some shows but not the full schedule that happens on weekends.
And I'll be out there pushing soap and entertaining myself in the booth. :D
Anyone going out early early ? know a person needing a pre-cannon lift out- PM on the forum!
Well, I'm currently using the vacation day I had planned to use next Friday to take my dog to the vet and keep an eye on him. So I may not be attending Fest Friday after all. :(
The Earl and I will be there on Festival Friday. Another week to wait after a rainy Sunday. We will be wearing non Noble garb this time.
This time I can get my mead.
jenn and i plan on being out there around noon or 1, we will have little Lauren in tow.
The Fest Friends Glade will be open all day-hence, I will be there all day.
I'm no longer in charge at the shop on Friday! Well, I guess technically I am but I'm not going to be the one working it so I can actually go and play! I may have to get kicked out of my shop though.... ;D
Sarah and I will be there but apparently both our menfolk are going to be at their real jobs so we shall be there unsupervised.
So you two will be causing trouble, yes no?
Always! Plus, since it's fest Friday, we will have practically no customers so shall have plenty of time to drink. Our shift is Sarah, Muffin and I...I think we are in for a fun day.

And those of us wandering around and amusing ourselves. :)
By the way, if anyone might be interested in working with us at fest or other shows in the future Friday might be a good time to play a game with Beth and talk about how we do the voodoo that we do. So far we're expecting to have most of our MNRF shop staff to come back next year, but we often have a day, or two here and there. Tanya and I plan to come out after work...should be on grounds by 4.....

Righty-O Neat-O! I forgot you were working it too. Is Stacey working? I think Jason said he is working it and I know Jolene and Paul are. That means we have a minimum of 6 people to cover the day, mayhap even more. If so a couple of people might get shifted to another pub if they don't have enough people there, but I won't know that until Friday. I could see if I could get Jolene and Paul to switch just for the day so I could possibly train someone as second for next year. Hmmm...We are supposed to train at least one new person per pub per season.

So Sleepy and Dreg besides hanging out at Foaming are we going as two nobles and a FOP????
So two Nobles and a FOP are in a life-raft adrift for days and near death. The FOP snags a lamp on a makeshift and completely inneffective fishing line.
"Oooh, it is a might dirty, I'll just wipe it off". Out pops the proverbial genie and offers each but a single wish.
"Well I want to be with my lovely Muffin drink'n a cold one at the 'Foaming Stien'" say's the Cap'n and "poof" he's gone.
The Gin turns to Dreg and say's "Lo master, what is your desire"? Well Dreg's no fool, he replies in an instant, "The mead booth is but my one desire at the moment, I sure would like to be slogg'n down some of my favorite Egyptian". With a "poof" he too is gone.
The Genie then turns to the FOP and asks for his wish. Sleepy thinks long and hard, after what seems like an eternity he speaks..."Well I'm not sure what I want but it's awful lonely out here with no one to talk to, I wish those other two were back here to help me decide"..."poof"
Oh sure blame it on the FOP!!

Laurel and I will be there later today (late afternoon)...yay!!!! ;D
I am just back from my first ever Festival Friday.
Swag collected:
1 blackwatch kilt.
1 green poet shirt.
1 black belt
1 medium belt pouch
1 large draw string pouch
1 new Mug (My previous mug was attacked by a friend's dog)
Countless mugs of mead....
Met some of the R/F gang.
Analysis of Fest Friday?
Too many kids...not enough wenchery to go around....better head back out on Sunday. Hope to see some more of you there for the final day.
Fest Friday was a blast again! Once again today has lived up to being one of my favorite days at fest!
The only bummer was, I think the kiddies were too shocked by Sleepy's FOP outfit to say much. No interesting comments. Oh well...
Then, the fact that Muffin and Sitara got sent to the Beer stand clear on the new side of the grounds, past the Bakery Stage where there is hardly any shade to speak of, was a bit of bummer too! It was hard work for us standing out there drinking our beers and keeping them entertained in that heat and lack of shade!...or were they keeping us entertained?...I forget.
Anyway...Great day and great seeing everyone again. See you all tomorrow!...
BTW...Anyone with long pheasant feathers in their hats, make sure to stop by the Kates uncles shop tomorrow and say "hi" to Anna....She really, really likes those feathers!...LoL
fun day. I was too tired to stay late. see you al tomorrow.
Arrived home (thanks to my sober driver, VV). What fun today was. Hanging out, napping, chatting, shopping, drinking too much beer.!!!
Thanks to all for the delightful day and the premier of VV's kilt. Yummy!
Hugs to all, see you tomorrow for final Saturday
It was a good day. I tried finding all of you again after I went to "characterize" but failed and was pretty much offsite by 2...it was good to see you all briefly though. See ya tomorrow!
Fun, just flat out a great day due to spending time with so many of you.
A special thanks to my two "tour guides".
Appears today was my last day at MNRF '08...got plumbing to attend to... :(

It was a good day. I tried finding all of you again after I went to "characterize" but failed and was pretty much offsite by 2...it was good to see you all briefly though. See ya tomorrow!
I was wondering where you went. Saw you for 5 minutes and *poof* you were gone! Why'd you leave site?
Pie called and I kept getting distracted by people in the campground wanting to talk to me and before i knew it, I had to leave to get back for fiddle lessons
I enjoyed seeing everyone and not working! I got to be social. :) And I finally made favors. I'm stuck inside working today after "not being there" this morning (had to drive out to pick something up) but will be back tomorrow for closing.
MG, thanks for the pin. Turns out that a friend of mine is the one who got the guy to make them!
So it's dark last Friday night, didn't think to bring a flashlight, and I'm feeling my way to B-gate when I see this "Fairy Light" dancing accross the grounds near the water-mill. It has an eerie green glow as it's moving back and forth, moving fast! Zipping up and down, twinkling, it kept changing shape and occasionally wink out. Then it came straight at me fast...just before it was going to hit me I could hear a kind of "gallop" sound in the inky darkness, Lord it's the Headless Horseman! Then a shrill whistle in the distance followed by "here boy!". The big black dog with the light stick in his mouth made a sharp turn in front of me and ran straight to his owner near Bad Manor.
Scarred the crap outa me, yep it did indeed.
He probably just wanted to say hi ND. Give a little puppy lovin'.
That was the first time I was out on fest friday for five years! Great fun!
Long live the O'Culligans!
Sleepy-did you change your name?
That's made of AWESOME!
Just wanted to thank you all for braving the extreme amounts of sun to visit your exiled beer wenches. It was much appreciated as we figured we would be lonely and sad without out our people coming to visit us. So YAY!

I'm betting it will be purple!..LoL
I do really like the new name, Sleepy. It makes me giggle in a childish sort of way. :D
Thanks MG, Im lovin it! I think I will keep it to this one for a while.
N Dreg: I may just have one left somewhere. As for new ones well Im gonna have to think about it. I have some ideas but no idea where to get the stuff.
thanks to everyone this year. I had so much fun as a FOP. Im going to start working on my accent and do a little more with the costume. I had a lot of fun seeing all the strange looks and being called a lot of different things. Its fun to do something WAY out there. I like it so much it might just become my main character.
I sadly put everything away Monday, my closet looks bare now. Im going to Vegas in February and Im thinking if there is extra money (wishful thinking) I might talk Jenn in driving to Arizona for a day to go to fest hehe. Im gonna need a fix before next spring.
