Title: Weather predictions for opening day
Post by: Capt Gabriela Fullpepper on June 08, 2010, 09:59:17 AM
OK I'm not cursing this but the weather reports say 76 cloudy with a 20% chance of rain. Others say 63 and thunder storms. So it looks like it COULD be chill or quite nice to some showers to down right raining.

Well this is Colorado so this will change in about 5 minutes. I say expect the weather not to be what you expect it to be, as it will not be what the weather people expected it to be when they expected it to be that way.

Personally, I think it would be wonderful to have rain on opening day! I so love it when it rains at faire. Either way, I'll be sure to keep our cloaks handy, just in case.

Rain or shine - either is ok with me just loving the fact that it's not supposed to be in the 90's like it has been.

Only hope the sun comes out during the "jousting" so I can get some good pics of that.  Went to the Scottish festival in Estes last year and it was very cloudy (dark) rained pretty hard so the pics I got of the jousting were less than great which is why I haven't posted any of them yet

YES! Oh, please, yes. Just a little. That would be AMAZING! Nothing beats huddling under a cloak with a hot man and cold glass of cider.  :-*

I remember the mudslides,  the freezing fog,  and melting hot heat.    I know we've had snow in June but I was not at the site when it has happened.

We've got it all.

Was it just last year...lol?  I remember it last year and at least 3 years ago as well!  The storms we get this time of year can be ferocious!

See you this weekend Adriana! Tell "Mom" I said hi and I will see her, too!  Oh...and that lil' devil of handsomeness...I will be sure to have fresh lipstick to kiss his sweet cheek, too! (BTW - he is soooo freaking big and adorable!)

Well as of this morning the weather people (not sure they could forcast what yesterday's weather was  :o) are back to lower 60's and cloudy/rainy all day.  Wouldn't be surprised to see some of that hard white stuff to spice up the outing a little!!!

Anyway, must have been a mail man in another life, rain or shine I will be there camera in hand having a blast  :D.

Kind of crazy to think about possible rain and cooler temperatures, the way the heat's been the last few days...up in the 90s all this week in Greeley.  Will be welcomed though.

Well being that it MAY rain... I'm really thinking of going pirate first weekend. Cleaning mud off a noble dress SUCKS! and it's hard work to boot.

Indeed.  It's always a struggle to pick - pirate is heavier and more difficult to clean, but keeps me warmer in the booth when it rains (it gets chilly back there!); gypsy is lighter and less effort to wash, and is subsequently not the best choice when I want to be warm.  Decisions decisions...guess that's why I always bring the cloak in with me...

Leather is the way to go.

Mud = Hose it off
Rain = It just rolls off
Heat = soak the inside and instant swampcooler
Cold = button the front
Now lightning might be a little tricky.

;D ;D ;D

I shall make my weather prediction in the manner of new england weather forcasters.

Yep, we're gonna have some weather.

However, I will be a bit more specific and say light rain by 4 pm on saturday.

Starting to get a little out of hand, now they are saying it's only supposed to be 58 on Saturday.

If this keeps up we might just get a little snow to get faire going!!!!!

I'm not sure we've ever been to faire in Colorado without some sort of rain, hail, mudslide or tornado on the horizon (last year). It just is what it is and we plan to go and play, regardless of the weather (well, except for snow....I HATE SNOW)!  Anyhow, our very first time at faire, we came in "cheesy garb" that we bought at a costume shop in Ft. Collins.  The gal introducing us to faire insisted we attend in costume.  Upon arrival, she was in shorts and a tank since she couldn't find her garb, while the rest of our gang was "geeked to the max" in our polyester Ren Garb.  We had a great time anyhow, and in the afternoon the heavens opened up and dumped what seemed like an entire ocean over Larkspur.  It poured so hard that we couldn't even make it to our car, which was miles away.  So, two angels of mercy (Mark & Sharon from Minnesota) took us in to their food stand, with several other families with young kids.  They gave us shelter, rain gear (trash bags), hot cocoa, funnel cakes, an assortment of food and some of the fondest memories of faire that we have.  Bizarre, but to this day our daughter still remembers the fun she had making friends in the back of a food stand, wearing a trash bag and drinking hot cocoa!  So, when we hear miserable weather reports for faire, we try to stay optimistic and remember that fun can still be had in dreadful weather!  Although, cleaning noble garb can be a pain!  Like Lady DeLaney, I too, may opt for pirate-gear over noble this weekend.  Only 2 days to go........can't wait!!!

Rainy days can be fun :)

A day in the Scarby Mud!  It took a couple of cleanings for M'lady's gown!

Ah Hem...

This is why there is the wonderful Costume Rental shop right outside the Front Gate.  We can dress up any mundane and we will keep your clothes dry while you get ours wet.

Thank you and end of commercial :)

GREAT photo, Lord Bracknell!

Like so many of you, the Baroness and I have acquired some of our fondest memories of Faire on those cold, rainy days.  It can be really, really fun when there is virtually no one there except the cast, the vendors and the die hards.   :D

I've found it's only fun on rainy days at faire if you're not working it...because otherwise you're stuck behind a booth, no patrons, no money.  And you're usually cold because you're stuck in one place.  I much prefer the hot days.  Alas.

We actually tipped better that day, since we felt sorry for the workers not having much business.  It also was kind of nice shopping, since the shops were not crowded, and again bought more.

Good point, Zoe.  We empathize with all the vendors and foodies when business is so slack due to weather -- but not enough to keep us from enjoying those day immensely.

It's going to be a COLD, WET, Rainy day tomorrow. IF when we get up at 5 - 6 and it is rainy... we will not be making opening day. I've been to faire when it rained and it was cold. it didn't rain all day but to me even as much as we enjoy faire, not being soaken wet and cold is not worth it.

Lets hope the weather is wrong and not mid to high 50's and rain all day along as they say.

So, although I mentioned in my last post how we've had fun at faire in the rain, and that we'd be attending rain or shine, things took a little turn by opening day.  We "wimped out"!  We had all of our noble gear ready to go and we were so psyched.  It rained like crazy all day Friday then Friday night poured so hard and loud that we could barely sleep.  We were so exhausted by 5am (the time we needed to start getting ready) and the rain was still coming down harder than ever with predicitons of no end in sight.  So we chose to sleep in, later make coffee & hot cocoa, watch movies, make brownies & popcorn, watch more movies, order pizza and stay warm, dry and content.  It was a good choice, although I started having "Ren Faire Withdrawal" by then end of the day and really needed my fix!!  So, we decided to attend on Sunday in pirate garb and although the first 3 hours were constant rain and even a little hail, eventually a spot of sun peaked out, the rain stopped and cheers could be heard throughout the shire!  We were muddy and wet and I barely took any photos, but we did have fun and were so glad we went!!!! We're just praying the rest of faire weekends warm up and dry up considerably!!! Off to cleaning muddy ren garb.......
