I saw a similiar topic on the Bristol faire section and it got me wondering. Is there any place to meet up with other rennies before the faire?
I am typically shyer in person and its a bit difficult for me to introduce myself to a group of people. With a couple it isnt so bad.
We are still a little new to faire, but a few of us have met in the parking lot. Once we had quite a few and all brought food to share - it was a great time and for newer people a chance to meet and at least have an aquaintance once inside.
We will be there opening weekend, Labor day weekend for sure, so look us up.
In MN we often do a tailgate breakfast or at least all park in close proximity so we can visit, help each other dress, etc. We also do a daily meet up at the Foaming Stein beer booth at 10:00am. We used to meet at the mead booth but so many of us work at Foaming, we moved. :DLOL
Check your local faire for meet up times/places and join them! It's the best way to put names with faces a few at a time.
What is the name of that area - the grove? It's somebody's "(insert name) grove"? - Charlie? It is nice 'cause it offers some shade in the late afternoon
At PRF we meet in the parking lot well before cannon, everyone brings food and drink and we can watch the gate show from there. In the afternoon many of us end up at Pirates Pub.

At TRF, most of us have camped together for the weekend, so our meet ups are when we manage to stagger from our tents/Travel Trailers/RV's to eat breakfast (or to puke behind our neighbors tent), jump into our garb and head for the Gate... HOPEFULLY before cannon. :D
Once inside, the R/Fer's have a meet & greet at the Prince of Wales pub, right after the parade.
At Scarborough we have a regular pre-cannon meet and greet, usually with assorted foods and beverages.
We meet in the reserved Friends of Faire parking area that is right next to the gate. Not everyone has a parking pass
for that area but it doesn't keep them from walking down and joining us. After all, it is on the way to the gate. ;D
Thanks! My "home" fair is MNRF. Glad they do something like this. :)
There are some of us who don't camp at TRF. We meet in the parking lot around 8AM ish!

Or just outside the front gates waiting for them to open. At least, that is where we usually meet, My Queen.
Yes! We do eventually wend our way to the front gates for more meet ups! See you at TRF this year!
Bonny has spoken highly of you, Queen Bonnie! /curtseys lowly
I hope to get the opportunity to greet you this season! It would be an honor!

Queen Bonnie is an awesome person to meet. I saw her at Sherwood and despite my shyness she grabbed me and introduced me to an armored persona we have here on the boards. He and his group were camped out as Romans on the last weekend of Sherwood I think...the memory goes first right?
You will see me and others from this forum in the parking lot- row 3 or outside the gates before cannon. Do say hello if you see me.
We also meet at the Prince of Wales pub to watch the parade. I try to be there most days! It is my plan to not miss one day of TRF!
I was wondering if there will be much of a crowd pre-cannon at Sherwood in the parking lot?
You'll be seeing Nim and me... We hope to meet a lot of new R/Fers as well.
The BARF crowd tailgates under the oak trees. We usually have breakfast items such as bagels, Kate's sausage and gravy with biscuits and sometimes quiche for special occasions.
For St Molden's we had a ham and---WAY over there----->>> haggis.
Topped off with mimosas and sometimes mint juleps.
The morning tailgate at Scarborough is still going strong. There have been mimosas for most Saturday on top of the usual fare.
Bristol does not allow any outside food or drink in the parking lot, either before or during faire. My son was sitting in our car in the afternoon drinking a beer that he took from a small keg in the trunk, and the security confiscated the keg & he had to pick it up after the faire was over.
In years past, you would see families go into the parking lot and spread a blanket and eat their picnic, but they haven't allowed that either in recent times, as far as we have seen security tell them to pack it up.
We almost never get to Bristol earlier enough (3 hour drive). We either get there just at opening gate or a few minutes after, so we don't meet up with people in the parking lot. We head to the Friends of Faire garden upon arrival to fill our water bottles with either water or gatorade, and find our friends there, too.
MNRF used to do some pretty big tailgates in the parking lot but because so many of us work the faire now there are not as many people out there. And with the parking lot realignment it isn't as nice because the grove has been taken over by the horses.
Lady Renee, the laws vary by state on alcohol. In Texas if you are inside your car AND its not moving, you can have whatever you want because you are inside your personal property.
The trouble is...it is illegal to have an open container inside the passenger compartment of a vehicle if it is on the road anywhere.

And on that note...TRF doesn't seem to have much tailgating because a lot of the partyers are in the campground.
