Title: Old Gauntlet Arcade Game
Post by: Craigmeister on July 25, 2010, 12:19:30 AM
Who used to play the arcade game "Gauntlet"?  I used to be able to play for a long time on just 1 quarter b/c I always picked the wizard.  I know that he had little armor & didn't have the strongest hit power but when I used a potion, it would kill EVERYTHING on the board.  You could rack up thousands of points if there were several "deaths" in a level.  I played w/ guys who were younger than me & they enjoyed saying "Get out of the way, old man" since the wizard was slow.  We spent many a weekend in the 80's at the arcades.  Good times!

I used to play it all the time. We even got it on a play station or PS2 multi-game disc.

I use to play it on the portable Atari Lynx system back then and still do. I have three lynx units. You could link them up multi player and play that way with the different characters as well. But every once in a while I still break out the Lynx and play it.

I had one version of it on PS1 or PS2.  The levels & graphics were different so it just wasn't the same.  It wasn't as bad as Gauntlet II in the arcades.  That just seemed to be a way for the game makers to get their money back.  That thing was impossible w/ the acid puddles, trap doors & being "it".

I played on PS one, over and over for each character.

Am I crazy or did they recently put out a different version for Wii?

My buddy had this on his NES back in the day. We used to play it all the time. One night when I was crashing at his place, we decided that we'd stay up and finish the game, no matter how long it took. We were on level 300 or 400 or something andit was about 3:30am before we figured out that the game simply doesnt have an ending; the levels loop over and over once you get high enough. Good times.

Love Love Love this game!  Drinking and staying up into the late hours playing on PS is a fond early 20s memory.

"You have found my treasure!"  ~  I hated the treasure room.  There was never enough time for me to pick up everything I wanted & make it back to the exit before time ran out.

It was during many hours of playing this game in the arcade that my brother and I became friends.  Many quarters, many hours, many laughs.   I love this game!

"Warrior ate the food" (brother was always warrior) To which I would replay, "you bastard!"  LOL

My kids and I played Gauntlet Dark Legacy on PS2.  YOU ARE GREEDY!!!  We loved playing this game. We got an extra hook up so the three of us could play.

That's cool, Marietta.  I used to play Atari games @ home w/ my Dad but my brothers were so much older than me that they had moved out of the house by the time I was 10 (before video games were in arcades & Pizza Huts).

Lol, I found very easy ways to cheat at Dark Legacy. Almost too easy to beat.

Gauntlet what??!!

I STILL own the NES game and I have Gauntlet Legends for PS one.

"Someone shot the food" cracked me up.  The narrator guy always sounded so disappointed.

I remember the implementation of Gauntlet for the Macintosh ages ago.  Once I was sick, so I ended up playing that game for days on end because I couldn't sleep.  I got to some impossible number of levels before I got better and was so burned out on the game I never picked it up again.

I feel the same way about Playstation's version of Gauntlet (Legends?).  I got snowed in for several days about 10 years ago & played that thing to the end.  I couldn't bring myself to want to play it again.  If I bought one of the arcade games, I'd still play it though.

"Warrior is about to die..."

A friend of mine build his own acrade game using an old full sized Gauntlet game frame. Has about 400 or 500 old school arcade games on it, include of couse, Gauntlet.
