Title: Things you won't see at MNRF this year . . . ??!!
Post by: Will Gamwell on July 27, 2010, 10:41:53 AM
So far I have heard that the two following acts will not be performing at MNRF this year.

Puke 'n Snot - Their website shows MNRF on the Schedule page, but on the "About" page, it says that they are only doing Maryland & Colorado.  Have also heard from several sources verbally that they are not returning.

Tastes Like Burning / The Inflammables - This info is directly from one of the guys.  Posted on FB.

No Puke and Snot?? Wow, that'd be crazy....!

It wouldn't be the first stupid move Peterson's made this year if this is indeed true and not a webmaster oversight..  He didn't sign BARF's biggest draw, Empty Hats, this season.  We'll see how this unfolds.  Word-of-mouth news of this sort is dubious at best.

No offence intended, Will.  I've simply heard too many rumours too often to get concerned at this point.

Tastes Like Burning will not be back.

They also have told Pansy the Unicorn *the one it the mascot like costume* not to come back either.

I am little worried... I decided to negotiate my contract this year with them... now I just hope that I maybe get a contract.... ???

LOL!  None taken!  I've worked out there too many years to trust a lot.

The post about Tastes Like Burning/The Inflammables was directly from Abestos himself.

As to Puke & Snot . . . ???  That is only by word of mouth and from many sources, some related, some unrelated to each other.

All I know is that I'll be there.

I'll say this much; if P&S aren't there this season, it will suck for the shops that rely on the crowds that pour out from the Legend stage after a show.

Exactly.  Working the dragon egg booth in past years, that was really the only time we had traffic was when P&S show would get done.  Otherwise it's a barren wasteland most of the time.

Looks like everything is normal at this point.  Hopefully it stays that way.

Hubby and I talked to Snot when we were at CoRF in June.  Snot made it sound like P&S would be at MNRF.  I wish I could remember his exact words. I will post it later if I remember what he said.   :P

I'll see your Schedule page & raise you their "About" Page.  (see question #5 "HOW MANY FESTIVALS DO THEY DO?")

Puke & Snot About Page (http://www.magaga.com/About.html)

Also, the interesting piece of "rumor mill" information was that The Inflammables were going to be on Legend Stage.

Also this is from the Facebook page for the performing cast:

Minnesota Renaissance Festival Performing Cast There have been questions and rumors about our Bakery. We are looking at making a change in our Bakery, and discontinuing the tradition of having a working Bakery. With Danger Committee occupying the space nearly all day, and the general condition of the structure, we're not sure it makes sense, from the customer prospective, to continue. We'll let you know.

I helped out there... it isn't like the spend money on it, and really all that excellent food before parade made that march just a bit more bearable!

I did not know that there was a sports bar at Fest.  Been working there since 1996.  That the Bakery Stage would eventually come to an end does not surprise me.  The faire has been moving from authentic to Disney at an ever increasing rate over the last few years.  Well, that and 'western.'

Well Yee-Haw!!  Lem'me grag my boots & spurs!

Over the years (which are very few in comparison to some) that I have worked at festival, there have been quite a few changes.  It seems to be the general rule of thumb.  There are things that I will unfortunately never see (The BLT, The Irish Cottage - Backery Stage cook-off/food fight . . . etc), and there are things that I have seen that I won't again (The Bear, the former SS directors in their super-hero costumes on duty, the Old Irish Cottage crew, the old SS crew . . . etc.)

Things come and go.  I am blessed, in my own opinion, to be a member of a 20+ year group out at festival.  I've heard a good amount of different "traditions" that have come and gone among the group.  But as the director of the group tells us, "It is ours to do what we want with it".

Yeah in the last 2-3 years I heard they had the game on in the old Scriptorium space when the Vikings were playing.

If that is the bar by the water wheel, they have a TV that they hide when the game is not on...

The Baroness and I spoke with Thomas Snot Jr. himself yesterday during the final day of the Colorado Festival, and he assured us that P&S would be appearing at Minnesota this season.

We will look forward to seeing them when we attend Labor Day weekend with Lord Gauwyn and clan.

Lovely. :) I'd have been surprised if they did other faires but not MN, given that MN is their home faire...

If by the grove you mean the area of oak trees to the west of the main gate, yes, but I think they may be moving the jousters camp and paddock there so there may not be as much shaded parking available there as there used be. Years ago, before we owned a booth, we used to try to park there if we arrived early enough. The excavations have all been on the east side of the site.

There were some horse trailiers there last year - probably the jousters.  It is a nice place to park as it does offer some shade in the afternoon.

Also, No Mud Show (at all), no Michael Madden Magician, no fire guys (I forget their names), no Royal Procession into the gate in the morning.

That is a lot of things not to see. I bet the procession though has to do with the new placement of the horses and the new extreme lack of parking. They used to march out of what now will be the jousters camp area..... I am willing to bet the pretty outfits don't appreciate horse poop

Yes there still will be an opening gate show.  It will look more like CoRF's  - royalty part of the opening gate show from the start.

Sounds more like what I remember back when I was on cast in the early (15)90's  ::) My memory is that the opening gate show would start with the court already inside.

Clann Tartan aka Col Gaffney's Regt. used to march our pikemen up to the gate a little while after opening cannon and ask permission of the Crown (or the Mayor if the king wasn't there) to recruit (shanghai?) mercenaries for the war against the Papists in the Low Countries, and thereby rid the village of some of the vagrants and other ne'er do wells...  ;D

My idea for an opening gate show would be to have the Mayor in a tizzy on the gate with local nobles because the King is coming to the village as part of the Royal Procession and once the gate opens the Mayor's entourage and assorted cast lead some of the audience down to the "docks" to welcome the King as he disembarks from the ship at the Legend stage. Some of the court could stumble down the gangplank still a little seasick from the trip... We've got a "port" I've never understood why we don't use it for some nautical skits rather than just "Flem and Vomit", heck it could be the lead-up to the first Puke & Snot show

Didn't see a single ad.  Those usually start after the first weekend, which is why those in charge always thought the first weekend was bad.  Their answer?  Move the first weekend and the advertising with it.

I did see a few of those junk mail flyer-like ads.  You know, the ones no one looks at and just throws away.  Mine was taken out of the recycler by a frisky kitten.  Then I saw the ad.

I happened to see the ad in one of those too. It was the Twin Cities coupons newspaper thingy, and actually there was a coupon for $5.00 off for the first 2 weekends, I think. I cut it out and brought it to work. Hopefully, whoever took it will actually use it!

Another thing we apparently won't see.... Tillie's Bean?? The coffee booth is now run by a place called Espresso on Main (?). It's not clear if they are CKC, but I don't think so because their coffee is actually good. I will miss Tillie's though! :(

I assume they just couldn't come to a contract understanding with the artistic director. Dane had posted something on his Facebook page about it, but took it down. It's not the first time, back when it was Dane and Dan there was a season they weren't at fest. I'm pretty sure I saw Dane's partner JD(?) doing a solo street character as what looked like a jester in black.

There's enough other amateur fire eaters on site that it wouldn't surprise me if they got together for a "blowout" at closing gate -especially later in the run when it's darker at closing cannon

Another thing we apparently won't see.... Tillie's Bean?? The coffee booth is now run by a place called Espresso on Main (?). It's not clear if they are CKC, but I don't think so because their coffee is actually good. I will miss Tillie's though! :(

I dunno why Tillie's Bean isn't there.  No word on who runs the building, now.  Anyone know?
I believe I had heard CKC owns it now.  Don't remember who told me though.

I'll have to try to find out... if it's not independent, I'm totally paying them with food coupons instead of cash!

It could also be something in between: owned by fest, but run by someone else. -A couple years ago they were trying to get some volunteer groups to run some of the food booths in return for a percentage of the sales as a "donation" to the group.

Most of the booths are this way, now.  They have a list of booths available and the typical 'rake' the operator could expect.  All completely in festival's favor, of course.  The operator won't make much more than if they were CKC employee AND CKC does not need to pay the SSI and additional taxes.  Actually quite a great idea.
