Title: LABOR DAY WEEKEND
Post by: Marietta Graziella on August 27, 2010, 08:19:24 AM
Ok... shhhhh!!!
*whispering so lean in closer*
You know how we can never make it on Labor Day weekend because of camping in Alexandria...
You know how I've been "grrring" about all the friends coming to visit ONLY that weekend and that I'd miss you...

Well...  DH has suggested that perhaps we do come to faire for Saturday, MORNING ONLY, then head up for our camping weekend in the afternoon!    *clapping*  Squeeee!

So, dear friends, anyone coming to visit just that weekend, please post so I can find you for pictures, hugs, and hellos!  10:00am Foaming Stein meet up for certain!

Oh, and most importantly, don't tell my non ren friends!   ;)

I shall have to make it a point to attend that Saturday morning!  I was planning on making at least one day that weekend but wasn't sure which one - now I know.   ;D ;D ;D

Oh, oh OH YES!!!!!  Please be telling the truth!  =)  'Cause I FINALLY get to go out to Fest Labor Day weekend and it sounds as if Sat will be the day for it!  Of course I'll have my Mom, Dad, husband and our three children- and possibly my nephew- so it won't be the BEST day at Fest for me, but I'll get to see YOU!  So THAT will make it all worth while!  =)

OMG! MG!!!! You got him to make post #2!!!! I am in awe.

Squeeee for Saturday! Is perhaps some get-together on Friday night an option? I don't really have any idea what time we'll be "local" (at least not till we actually leave Thursday and then sleep in some random town on I-35 and get moving again on Friday AM) but having a target time to arrive would help keep things moving in that regard!

We made it to CO by 5PM with a late start, so another 3 hours and being lazy as we were the last time gives me an estimate of about 8PM for MN. At the lastest I hope.

You lot can plan whatever you like for Friday night.  Me, I'll be, ahem, busy.  :o  DH has been gone for 3 months.  His flight arrives at 8:45pm.   And no, I won't be answering my phone, smart alecks!

We will be at fest by 9:00am cannon then heading pretty much towards Foaming Stein to get a headstart on that 10:00am rush on the beer wenches.  LOL

As long as it isn't raining in Shakopee next Saturday (forecast is Partly Sunny & mid-70's), my parents and I should be driving down from Clear Lake to spend the day at the MN Ren Fest.  Google Maps says it's 75 miles (1-1/2 hours), so I don't think we'll arrive any earlier than about 9:30am.

There doesn't appear to be an online map of the Ren Fest grounds.  So please describe how to get from the Front Gate to a suggested meeting area, and we'll know which way to head while getting familiar with the map in the Program Guide.

Due to only taking one small carry-on bag for my trip to MN, I won't be packing a costume, but I will bring a Ren hat (so I don't have the wear a ball-cap to keep from sunburning).  I'm planning to be wearing the shirt in this photo (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1356412&l=2808b77b39&id=1133127451), and the hat in this photo (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1234095&l=6e0a1937b7&id=1133127451).  This hat is the one piece of my costuming that was actually purchased at the MN Ren Fest, back in '96 or '97.  I wore this hat to Ren Faires for several years before buying some fancier hats with feathers (see my profile picture, for example) from Lady Dra at Scarborough Faire. The label in the MN hat says,
"Camille ...made with loving care
Manhattan Beach, Minnesota"

Take Care,
David Baldock

EDIT:  Determined that it was actually 1996 when I last visited the MN Ren Fest.

Directions to FOAMING STEIN from the front gate:

Go straight in the gates towards the 2 story bldg in the distance.  This is Bad Manor.  You will see a very "wild west" looking (because of the shape of the roof lines  ::)) eating area to your left and the "information" hut to your right.  You will also see an ATM just on the right corner of Bad Manor.

OK, now that you have reached Bad Manor, hug the RIGHT side of this building.  (DO NOT go far to the right, that takes you to the perimeter.) You will see Privies on the left and the Chess Booth on  your right.  Follow this path down about 100 yards and Foaming Stein will be on your left.  There is a large oak tree right in the middle of the path in front of it and most likely a man standing on a bench encouraging you to drink beer.  Hard to miss.

If you get down to the booth with the beautiful, bright flags, you've gone too far.  Turn around, stop next to that booth and say hello to MacGregor Games, Groomporter and folks, then make your way back to Foaming.  We'll be waiting to mock you for having missed the huge tree.  ;D ;)

Thanks for the directions.  The link to the map (http://www.renaissancefest.com/MRF/assets/images/map2.pdf) (PDF) on the faire web site was pointed out to me by Lady Kett (Thanks!), and I was wondering if the Booth Number for the FOAMING STEIN is in the upper 600's?

Just an FYI.. your normal Foaming Stein Crew will be sparse this weekend.. Sitara is off on Saturday, as are Stacy and Liz (not R/F'ers, but most of you know them)

So that will leave Me, Toar and Jason (not an R/F'er) not sure who else will be at the pub, I am guessing we will have vistors from other chapters?  ::)

I will be there from 9-10, and then again at noon with Toar to start our normal shifts..

*Cheers*

My plans have been changed for me, I don't get to come out to Fest on Saturday- now I have to wait until Sunday.  I'll just have to get my MG fix at a later date, I guess!  =(  But hey, at least I FINALLY get to get out to Fest!  =)

I managed to talk my mother out of Labor Day weekend this year so I could take my 2 personal days on either side of a weekend and manage to not have to drive more than visit... although now it'll be about equal honestly.
I'll be up September 19th instead.

If anyone cares, I'll be there this Sunday (the 5th) and next Saturday (the 11th.)  But I'll have my kids with (at least on the 11th) so I may be a bit "toned down."  (Yeah, I know, it is hard to believe but it truly does happen!)  At least this Sunday I can pawn them off (mostly) on those who are attending "with" me...  (aka, just riding in the same vehicle to and from.)

Well, I had a great Saturday at the MN Renaissance Festival!  Met many RenFest Forum folks, and took around 400 pictures.

Since my parents have dialup Internet service for their PC here in MN, I'll wait to upload the pictures on my Flickr & Facebook accounts when I've got fast access.   ;)

Take Care,

EDIT: BTW - Has anyone heard how many people came through the Gates on Saturday?  Seems like there were a lot of people there by the time we left at ~5:30.

I am SO sorry to EVERYONE that I didn't get a chance to visit with!  It was as I suspected it would be, too many family members with wanting to wander about and not happy when I stopped to talk with everyone.  I was able to see Nyte, Leyla, Kate, Lauren, Lord Fondlebottom and Sorcha, though!  My girls were very upset that they didn't see Jewel (even more so when I told them that I DID and I got a bubble from her!)  I get to come back on Sat with the girls, though just me and the fairy children so we'll be able to do MUCH more!  (How backazwards is THAT?  Getting to do MORE when I have no help with the kids?)  I think it'll be a good time to be the Night Fairy...

We had a WONDERFUL weekend! It was awesome to meet so many of you and enjoy the wonders of MNRF. I will try to get my pics in order tomorrow and get some posted.

Good shot of the two of you.

Lord Austin Tatious, I also took some photos of you on Saturday, 4-Sep-10.  They've been posted to both my Flickr and Facebook accounts.  Are you on Facebook, so your photos can be tagged?

Take Care,
David Baldock
