I don't know how much interest there is in this, but a pagan group I'm loosely affiliated with is promoting this class, so I thought I would throw it out for you all!
The True Meaning of Halloween
Saturday, October 30th,
1 to 3pm
this class is taught by donation, $1.00 minimum requested to pay for the handouts
please pre-register through Isis
Isis Metaphysical Books and Gifts, 2775 S Broadway, Englewood
Come explore the history of Halloween, including discussion of Samhain, the New Year's Eve of the ancient Celtic peoples of Europe. Come hear of the old rituals and symbols of Samhain, when the veil between the worlds was thin -- a good time to contact the spirits of the dead. Hear how the customs of wearing costumes, lighting jack o' lanterns and trick or treating began. And how the both the Ku Klux Klan and the Boy Scouts contributed to our modern celebration of Halloween. We'll share examples of traditional games of divination, and of some particularly clever tricks. Lots of handouts are included.
Jackie is a High Priestess of the Wicca, sometimes called the witches. As a child, Halloween was always her favorite holiday. Even today she produces the Witches' Ball each Samhain. She taught this class for several years through Colorado Free University.
I did a research paper on Samhain earlier this year about its roots with Halloween and the celebration of the dead. I'll probably be attending one of the Witches' Balls in Denver for Samhain this year (last year I had the flu, total bummer), but I'll see if I can't pop into this seminar...it's fascinating stuff!
And speaking of Samhain ....
It falls on a Sunday this year. What would you all say to a gathering at Park Meadows Mall to have lunch in the food court at noon. In garb, of course
Baron i would be up for it.

Now THAT sounds like fun!!
Oooh I might be there! My sister and brother in law and I and all the kiddos are gonna try to go to Boo At the Zoo. So I might drag my family down so the monster can show off his Super Hero Spider costume and we can get hugs from every one!
I wish soo much that I could go to the Witches Ball that is a very very fun time

Yes it is! Work situation allowing, I'll be going. Tuatha are a brilliant band.
First and foremost, I sincerely apologize to Nighthawk for hijacking his thread.
Having said that, if I understand your responses correctly, we have the following potential participants for the Park Meadows Halloween luncheon:
Baron and Baroness
Sir Garath
Rubiee
Adriana Rose and family
Celtic Rune Stones
I'm thinking we need at least 10 confirmed garbees to make this worthwhile, so I will create a new thread when the Baroness and I return from the Minnesota festival to see if we can't generate a bit more interest.
I am not totaly sure that we are going to go but if we do I am soooo dragging them down there. My sister wants to take her little girl to the American Girl store at that mall any way, so there is a little extra arm tiwst lol.

I don't know if I'll be able to make it to Park Meadows, but I'm almost certain I'll be at the Witches' Ball to see Tuatha. I never miss a performance of theirs if I can help it.
