Title: Would you update an events list?
Post by: Liraaf on September 02, 2010, 09:34:54 PM
I am contemplating writing a mobile web site application.  It would provide the listing of performers on a smartphone (iPhone, Droid) giving the stage, time, group, and type of performance.

For example, at 11:12am I hit the web site and it returns

Michigan Renaissance Festival 2010

-- More Previous To 10:00am -- (//http://--%20More%20Previous%20To%2010:00am%20--)

11:00
  Tree Top (Stage)
    Circa Paleo (Music)
11:15
  Steel Cavern (Vendor 122)
    Sword Making (Demo)
11:30
  Pirate (Stage)
    Tartanic (Music)

-- More Up To 1:00 pm -- (//http://--%20More%20Up%20To%201:00%20pm%20--)

Now the question is how to get this data into it?  I am thinking two options: the festival themselves (work!  we got enough to do!), or the patrons (graffiti time baby!), or the performers/vendors themselves (how do I know this is them?) updating the site the best they can.

Opins?

I can see spammers getting in there and really trashing everything (I run boards/sites myself). If only you could get each of the faires to provide you with a simple spreadsheet file to upload into the app. But i'm used to an environment where data are everywhere, if you know where to look...

I can tell you I would truly appreciate such a site.
Would it be possible to upload booth locations as well?

*and a rum locator...*

I have a beta of the site up at http://rf.amduus.com/mobile.  Right now only Michigan Ren Fest info is inserted.

To add stuff, a code needs to be entered.  I can hand it out here if ya got some posts here already.  :)

The infrastructure needs the stage names the various acts are at, so if ya got some names....

Let me think about how to do the booths.  It seems like something that should be added.  Perhaps a choice of product type and it returns booth/vendor name.

I have been thinking about creating music festivals, so my plans are to take this to a point where festival management can be done with it.
