Title: Picked up an old new book
Post by: BLAKDUKE on October 09, 2010, 08:06:52 AM
I have purchased an old new book called "A DISTANT MIRROR - THE CALAMITOUS 14TH CENTURY"  by Barbara Touchman.

It appears to be both a documentary and a novel, but more of a documentary.  It deals with an actual historical character.

Has anyone ever read this heavyweight or even heard of it.   It is 677 pages long with an index so it would be easy to look up stuff as a reference.  Overall it seems to be a book about the aftermath of the Black Plague.  I doubt that I will read for now, but it might make for good reference material if the subject matter ever came up in conversation.

I read it some time backed. I quite enjoyed it.

I read it when I joined the cast of a medieval faire. I would recommend it if you are interested in the 14th century. It covers most of the century, not just the time after the Black Plague.
