Title: Romanticism and Vow Renewals
Post by: Merlin the Elder on November 03, 2010, 01:27:01 PM
I thought this would be a good place to start (in the Scarby section). I am wanting to have a vow renewal, with my wife of course, at Scarborough. I'm looking for ideas, and experience with how things go at these ceremonies. Although I'm a fairly long-time Scarbite, I've never witnessed one one the ceremonies there.

This is semi-planned for spring of 2012. Although our wedding anniversary is in late May, the anniversary of the first time I asked her out is in late April, a time much more conducive to cooler weather. The April date falls on a faire date, which also makes a difference. And, it will mark 45 years since we began courting (May will be our 40th wedding anniversary).

Even as maudlin as it may sound to some, we've really come to love Scarborough and the faire in general. We want to make it the centerpiece of this milestone. I think we would want a handfasting, and if there is any way possible, I would really like Henry VIII to do the honours, tho' that's probably non-HA. A Druid priest would probably be closer to HA. But even if not, his and Anne's presence is a must (which I will pay for, I'm sure!). In my mind they are the epitome of Scarby. I want it to be more fun than serious...I hate solemn occasions! I'd love Queen Margaret to attend as well, but I'm afraid I may get distracted!  ;)  I also want as many of my yet-to-meet-face-to-face R/F friends to be in attendance—you will be fed and watered.

So is this crazy? Sound like fun? Are you a Scarbite that would attend? Suggestions?  Ideas???  I want this to be AWESOME! HELP!

The Pink Pirate and I's 10th wedding aniversary is a Friday before a TRF weekend.  I'm not sure if it will be Romance weekend, but I'm thinking I might have to bring out my wedding dress. (If I can still fit in it) to wear that day.  I actually did a rennisance wedding dress.  Might be nice to do.
I took pitty on the Pink Pirate and made our dating anniversary the same as our wedding. That way he only has to remember two days of the year. :) New Years eve and May 20th :)

Can't help with the English but I'd suggest getting with one of Queen Margaret sectaries early in the morning and getting on the Scottish court list then you can be called to court introduce your wive and anotice the reason.  I did that and had the rose guy bring one rose for each year and presented them to my wife.  Worked out pretty good.

Huzzah Merlin and Lady Nimue (hoped I spelled that right)! Though not quite as significant, Sidekick and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage on 5-29-2012 - which should be closing Sunday for Scarby. Mind if I ride your coattails on the info gathered here? :)

I fear we will have no choice but deal with heat...we met in August and married in May, LOL. I envy you the ability to legitimately use a date in April!!  ;D

Thanks, Raevyncait. I've been checking their info. I'm hoping though that I can get something arranged with the Scarby wedding planner that varies somewhat from their preplanned soirées.

Lady Kett, 25 years is quite significant in my book, and feel free to ride away! Better check the calendar, though—the 29th is on a Sunday in 2011, but a Tuesday in 2012. Sir Richard, Nim loves roses, but I would have to buy the entire rose forest! But I like your thinking. Lady Stitch, does the Pink Pirate have that much difficulty remembering the date of New Years Eve? :D

When Nimue and I got married, we had a terribly modest reception. We were paying for it because the parents couldn't afford to help, and we were quite limited on funds ourselves. We couldn't have alcohol because of a troublesome relative that could not be asked not to come, and no alcohol at a Catholic wedding is an aberration — just ask any Catholic.

I'm wanting to make up for some of that this time around. We're short-timers here at R/F, and we've only actually met a handful of you—Lady Kett and Sidekick, and Doña Catalina and Don Juan, Angus MacInnes, Al-Nimer, maybe one or two others. We hope to meet many more at Scarby 2011, and with any luck, RenDezvous 2011.

I've read about the way R/F'ers like to party, so I'm looking forward to throwing a humdinger. Does anyone know how many R/F'ers are Scarbites?

You havent' been to our New Years Eve!  ;D

Seriously, the goob proposed on New Years Eve, stroke of midnight of the Millenia.  We were broke then and he couldn't afford a 'proper' ring. (He actually used the 1 karat ruby ring that he had bought me as a promice ring the year before.  The money for that was from his first professional acting gig, so to me it is worth FAR more than dimonds. ) 5 years later on NYE he re proposed with a real dimond, now that he could afford it.  ;D

We need to do something for our 10 year and I think it might be nice to do this at Scarby. :)

Stroke of midnight, huh?...What a guy!  Is his official name "The Goob?"  ;)

Ah! Romance! Nimue will tell you that I'm a romantic, but it does tend to be slightly warped. And we've been broke before as well...when she got pregnant, she was still in school, and I was grossing $400 a month. Admittedly, things were cheaper back then. Our 1200 sf apartment was $65 a month.

Through all of the trials and "tribblations" (Trekker??), we've managed to have a lot of wonderful years together, and plan to have a few more! Growing old together is fun, not withstanding the inherent aches and pains that go with it.

Merlin, good luck with that. My roommates wanted to have their wedding at Scarby, quietly, in Pecan Grove under the trees during a time when NOTHING is scheduled in that area, however we were told that weddings are ONLY allowed in the Rose Garden, that a list of ALL attendees had to be provided, even though 95% of the attendees already had season passes and didn't need to purchase tickets. The impression we got was that if what you want doesn't fall specifically within one of their packages, too bad. We were also given to understand that if we held the ceremony, even quietly, on shire without permission, we risked our passes, permanently. In the end, we had the ceremony at a lovely park before faire, and then everyone who wanted to go to faire, did, the rest did their own thing for the day and joined us at a restaurant in town for the reception.

Well, thank you, Doña! I haven't contacted the planners yet, because I needed to kind of get an idea of what I wanted first. Logically, I should check with them to see how much latitude they do allow, if any.

Merlin,
We posed the question in October last year for a May 1, 2010 wedding.  The response we received was

"If you choose the Festival as your wedding venue, you may choose either our officiant, or you may bring in your own. All our weddings take place in the wedding garden; we are unable to have weddings in any other place.
We are unable to change the wedding packages. We are only able to schedule weddings at the times given, and are unable to alter the packages in any way."

Perhaps they have become more lenient in the last year, however I wanted to be sure you have as much information as possible before you get things all planned out in your head (as we did), and then get it shot down by the Festival.  I am sure whatever arrangements you do make will be lovely.

Truthfully, we had a lovely day, the wedding was about 10:30 at a park in Waxahachie, and we were through the gates before noon, having done photos at the park as well. Ryan's was very helpful about allowing us to bring in the wedding cakes and set up one of the private rooms for our group.

Thank you for all that, Raevyncait. I'll have to weigh having it elsewhere against the desire to have it in the surroundings of Scarborough, and having as many of the R/F community as guests as possible. Whatever we decide, there will be a party!!

Oh he is a man of many names depending on what trouble he get's into.

We will see what happens closer still.  Even if all we do is show up at faire in our best garb and play the part.  I think it will make for a nice day, :)

<giggle snort> Do you know how long I've been looking at the 2011 calendar thinking it was 2012? I blame Loki and Jules' Rennie Math Course. Oh well, we eloped on Friday of Memorial Day Weekend in 1987 so whatever the day on the calendar, we celebrate every Memorial Day Weekend! :)

I am still going to keep watching and reading everything you pick up here! :) I look forward to seeing you and your lovely wife in a few months! There's probably at least 20 or so Scarby-ites regularly on the boards and surely more who pop in occasionally.

I can make one suggestion if you need a cake. http://www.casalindabakerydallas.com/0_welcome.htm
Casa Linda Bakery made a lovely chocolate wedding cake for His Lordship and I, oh so many years ago with blue forget me nots all over it.
They do many custom cakes and can come up with almost anything if you give them plenty of time.

It appears that Scarborough handles the bride's cake, but I will see.

Lady Kett, worry thee not! There have been calendar problems in the past... Wednesday, September 2, 1752 was followed by Thursday, September 14! I wonder how many people that year had to wait another year for Social Security!  ;D

Post by: Merlin the Elder on June 01, 2011, 08:36:15 PM
Just a bump to update... I've begun the process to put this party on... Initial contacts with management seem to indicate that we have a little wiggle room with some details, but I am tentatively announcing the event for 10:30 am, Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the wedding garden.  I will confirm that to you when they receive my deposit, and I get confirmation on the time/date from them.

In the past year, we've formed amazing bonds with some of you at Scarborough, at Sherwood, and at The Castle. I feel reasonably certain that more new ones will be formed at RenDezvous next month. I'd like to think those bonds will be long-lasting. I have to say, the past year, and the time we've spent at faires, has been the most fun we've had in a long time—with our clothes on. I'm hoping that a lot of you will mark your calendars and join us next year.

I'll be posting more as it occurs to me...

Taste the rainbow! (Iris and Rose joke for those who know it...)

I'd love to compare notes with you on what you're doing. But again...I might have made the reservation early but it's much to early for me to do anything more besides get some of the garb in the works! I am a professional procrastinator, after all. I enjoy planning things, it's just the execution that sometimes never happens.

Ummm....methinks the Lady Kett doth mean 2012 however. Otherwise share that time machine, I have a few bets I would like to go back and make. ;D

I figure Scarby has more than its share of presiding Officiators but wanted to mention I am a card carrying clergy member, I would simply have to register in that county to make it completely official.  ;)

We also have in our vast Library Hand Fasting Services.  and a Wicca Friend in Oregon who presides over them who can offer any help you may need in preparing your special event.  You're already Hitched.  So you can more or less write anything you want.  Merlin cast your spell on all of us  and Huzzah.  I plan on being there work and weather permitting.

Lady Kett and I have had the discussion about her time warp before... I knew what she meant  ;)

Actually, the clergyman that married us the first time will likely be in attendance, but we are wanting to use the old ways this time...none of the new religion, so we would be interested in what you have on the hand-fastings and Wicca.  Note to clarify to those who may be worried: despite what you may have heard regarding Wicca, it is totally respectful of, and is not in conflict with, Christianity and other new religions.

Heh, yes I have date issues. :) I blame Merlin for twisting the space time continuum. I think that's why he understands when I mean even when I don't.

For a vow renewal, you need not have a licensed officiator since you do not need a marriage license. I did learn that talking to the wedding coordinator. The officiant can be anyone you want, as can the ceremony.

I've seen them do handfastings this year as I snooped over the wall while Sidekick was on guard duty. And Castle Canine Creations has beautiful handfasting cords. They are both on the boards here and at Scarby (at least the past 2 years, hopefully next year!)

+100000000000000. And also for those who might perhaps get nervous, this is a reaffirmation, you were already bonded in the "legal and accepted" way beforehand.;)

I was just teasin, Lady Kett. :)  I do it all the time, and am sometimes lucky to remember what day it currently IS, let alone past or future dates. My grandmother calls that "sometimers."  ;D

It struck me just now something that I think would be helpful for this (and any other types of ceremonies ) and that would be a Kindle. Small and portable, you can easily download any ceremonial books you might use and have them right on hand in 30 seconds or so. No need for transporting assorted books around. (not to mention they now have a library of 5000+ of the old classics completely free as well ) All new books are already in that format and they are working hard to update all older titles. You can also convert a PDF file with your completed ceremony and import that into a Kindle for easier quick access as well. ( I am one of the world's worst "paperwork" losers. ;)  )

One example is one of the books we currently own, found on Amazon and Kindle ready:

Or if you want OLD time England,  I have the English Anglican Book of common Prayer that even says "obey" in it, if you are interested.  I'll have to get it when I go up north, but You have loads of options and time on your side, provided you don't wait until say April to write it  LOL

You did indeed meet us, Bill and/or Charlene! We spoke of this very event, if you recall. And, we do intend on calling upon you for your services. (You aren't going to be at CoRF, are you??)

Lady Gryphon, any phrase about "obeying" better indicate that I obey her, and not the other way around, or we'll both be in deep...uhh...stuff. As for waiting, well, that's why this is coming up now. I am a confirmed procrastinator and that is unacceptable for this particular event. I want this to just be so over-the-top special for Nimue, and me too, but, well you know what I'm saying.

Lord Dragon, my sweet wife has an iPad with all the Kindle, et al, apps installed, so that's doable. Good idea, perhaps a little harder to display as period, but I'm on it...Thanks for the idea.

Okay! First questions for our studio audience... Of the following food options, which sounds the most palatable to you? Please give first choice, AND then second choice (in case we decide we're going to spring for two entrées):
1) Turkey Legs,
2) Sausage on a stick,
3) Chicken on a stick,
4) Rogue Brisket Sandwich (BBQ from what I understand; clarifications welcome);
5) Beef ribs

For sides (Choose 2),
1) Corn on the cob,
2) Fruit salad,
3) Potato wedges,
4) Potato salad,
5) Caesar Salad,
6) Olive pasta salad,
7) Three bean pasta salad

...thank you for your participation in this test...

If I can be of ANY help, just holler.  My mother and I worked Wedding for the local florist for years.  I'm a great organizer and not a Procrastinator.

As for food.

Column A  I like Chicken on a Stick or anything I can eat with my fingers and not get all over me.

Column B  I like the Fruit Salad on a hot day, Ceasar Salad or any on the list you wish to serve.

As for the IPad,  someone here I am sure can make you a beautiful sleeve it will fit into and look like a binder.  Where are our leather workers?

Title: Re: Romanticism and Vow Renewals

Just me and my humble opinion, mind you but I will give it a try:

Rogue Brisket Sandwich...any brisket I have had before was smoked and shredded beef, much like pulled pork, but usually served with a side of BBQ sauce, not mixed in and the smoky flavor by itself is excellent. Also good for those who cannot have BBQ sauce.

Second choice: Ribs. And I will freely admit bias in that choice as I am a self confessed rib fanatic. But I am also thinking on your behalf of the cost of ribs alone. Also cookable sans sauce and have sauce on the side. Memphis dry rub style is also excellent.

Would cost you muchly for my personally crafted years in the making special secret sauce recipe that has no less than 5 dozen reviews of something to the nature of: "Absolute BEST Frickin frackin G** D*** BBQ RIBS I have ever ever EVER eaten anywhere anyplace anytime, did I say EVER? Can I have the *munchmunchnomnomNOM recipe for these, here's my firstborn in trade *munchetygnawgnawchompchewchew* omgomgOMG!!!!"  Or something to that nature. ;D

Sides:
Potato salad (always a favorite for most )
and any of 5,6, or 7. Always liked 3 bean best, but any greens are good.

As for the IPad....get about a 3 foot strip of heavy paper, heaviest you can get, perhaps banner paper a couple of inches wider than the ipad, roll up the ends tightly towards each other and leave for a day or so. "Weather" the paper if you like, then stick the ipad in the middle center with sticky gum that comes off easily so that the end curls curl up onto the top and bottom edges. POOF, instant "scroll" to read from. ;)

The bookbinder at Scarborough could probably help you.  I used to work for him and he does amazing stuff.  He's making me a period looking cover so my modern looking receipt book doesn't stand out.  His shop is Stardrake Books, near the Scot Shop and the kettle corn booth  (http://www.stardrakebooks.com/index.html), he goes by Capt.

We went for Chicken on a stake/stick/whatever and ribs, and fruit salad and olive pasta salad. We were aiming for finger food types of meat and cool, refreshing sides.

Corn on the cob and the potato wedges seemed hot for the end of May, and if the potato salad is the german potato salad (which is very yummy) it is also hot. So, there you go.

Are you doing a sword arch, Merlin? We are, of course...Sidekick has stood in so many this past year it seems like a requirement for us, LOL.

You are most welcome, you have lovely merchandise! Do I recall properly that you have various and sundry ceremonies on parchment to go with your cords? I bought one last year for a friend and would love to peruse that avenue of thought further. We will be visiting you either via phone, email, website, or opening weekend at Scarby (assuming you are not at CoRF, in which case, Merlin, Nimue, Sidekick and I may invade your shop all at the same time! :)

I may need to commission a creative writer. I am feeling the need for vows/dedication/reaffirmation (whatever you choose to call it) with a sense of humor. If we don't have some serious silliness involved,  our friends who are coming will wonder whose ceremony they are at.

Depends on the level of silliness desired....*Wicked Smile*

"Milords and Miladies, friends, Romans and Countrymen.....
We gather together here in your semi-sober state to witness One and All the joining of two hearts, of two souls and one bank account, always and forevermore.
The Beautifully wondrous Lady Kett and the scruffy Sidekick hath become of one mind, one heart and one soul indeed.
Forevermore shall they be witnessed as such to all who behold her mighty glory as she blesses the very ground which she hath walked upon and his feeble wanderings behind....
As one soul, forever joined till death do they part, or else the taxman decides to take bodies over meager earnings.
Milady, dost thou taketh this sorry ruffian as thy mate, thy love and thy heart, forsaking all others through sickness and in health, health preferred, unless he has some really good blue cross until the end of time itself?
And you, Sir Sidekick, dost thou taketh this vision as thy mate and dost thou promise to love and to cherish her beyond all time itself, place her above all others, a 40 foot pedestal shall do, until time's end?

Etc etc etc....that's just improv.  :P

A little tame, don't you think, Lord Dragon?  ;)  That's the idea, though. I'm totally with Lady Kett on the issue: we're not going to want solemnity!

I'll have to think about that sword arch...depends on who's carrying the swords. If any of them have an issue with me, I wouldn't want to have an "accident" that day.

I had the same thoughts on the food, Lady Kett. As Nim doesn't like corn, I'll scratch that option. Finger food is the right choice. I love the turkey legs, but eating them with this beard is a bloody mess.  We're hoping it's a bit cooler for our renewal, being a month earlier than yours, but it is Texas...

Alas, we won't be at the CoRF this year however we will be at Minnesota and hopefully TRF in the fall and Arizona in February/March and we will be back at Scarby next year. Give us a call when you are ready Merlin as we are very excited to play a small part in such an amazing event. As for your food question, I say Brisket Sandwich/Ribs and Corn on the cob/Potato salad and if you remember my size you know I am an expert on food. Lady Kett, we do have a ceremony I wrote on our parchment and being a one time High School Sports Editor would love to get creative and funny so please give us a call. I hope everyone has a wonderful day, now back to work in the real world. (Not as much fun, but TGIF)

Date and time has been nailed down...a week earlier than our preferred date, but the change makes it easier for our son to attend, since it will be during his spring break. We'll be doing this April 14 at 10:30 am.  We've got to get cracking with the plans!

Ok - what are the exact dates that I need to put in my calendar besides April 14?

For Nimue and me, it's April 14, 2012. Our original intended date of the 21st was not available.

I cannot presume to speak for anyone or anything else...

FOOD - I would suggest the chicken and/or brisket sandwich for an entree and the Pasta Salad and potato wedges for sides.  We will be sure that you are very well cared for.

Sevice - we have several officiants who can do a hand fasting for you and make it meaninful and yet fun.

Wow. When I came back to this thread, I didn't realize that I had started it so long ago... Nov 2010. But I did want to update things...

I still have a lot to do, but it's going to happen. I have sent numerous invitations out, and have gotten responses from most. While there are a lot of people here I would like to invite, I had to keep it to a manageable number because I also have family and mundane friends that are coming, so please don't be offended if you have not heard from me via PM. Shortly, I'm going to post the list of the people I've heard from who are planning on attending.

Quite frankly, I'm humbled by the response I've received. Since that initial post in 2010, we've come to know so many of you face-to-face. At this moment, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 40 years of marriage, and 45 years of being together.

So, on April 14, at 10:30, in the Wedding Garden of Scarborough Renaissance Faire, Nimue and I will have a Vow RenNewal. The Lord Mayor of the village will be "doing the honours." We hope to provide an entertaining event...

The management of Scarborough has been very good about the tweaks and changes Nim and I wanted. I just wish Berit was still in the area to come celebrate with us.

STOP THE PRESSES ! !

I have convinced Eddie Gossage of Texas Motor Speedway to have the NASCAR race on Saturday night.... thereby freeing me up for Sunday so I can come to Scarby! !

I'll pack up late Saturday night and head out of the campground real early on Sunday morning... drop off the camper...grab the food-eater and the wife.... be in the FOF parking lot by 0930 ! !

My sundial tells me that there are only 3 days, 4 hours, and 20 minutes until Nimue and I renew our vows.  When it's all over, there will be a lot of people to thank, but right now, I'm just trying to hold it all together.

Invited Guests: Obviously, if you're FoF, you don't need a ticket... All others, your tickets will be at the ticket counter under your real name, and ID will be required to pick them up.

I know I'm forgetting something... :-[

The ceremony was beautiful and so perfect for you both. Merlin, Nim, thank you for allowing me to be there with you to share in the special moment in your lives. I think everybody had a great time- no matter the winds attempt to blow us away, it was wonderful. It was great dancing with Tartanic (hell, I even got Merlin to dance...yes, a very very old wizard can get up and shake his groove thing on a special occasion  ;D). I have to say, I've never seen that many photographers in the same place before...that's how you know you are truly loved, when they show up out of their own free will.  :-*

The Baron did his usual wonderful job with the ceremony, making it lovely and well-suited to the two of you.  The reception was a load of fun with lots of laughing and chatting and good food and music.  Seeing you two glow with happiness only topped things off with, dare I say, magic!

Thank you for allowing me to be there to share this special time with you both.  Shado asked me to apologize profusely for not getting over to the reception.  He had a cast obligation immediately after the ceremony and then got caught up in things and didn't make it back to the pavilion.

Can't wait to celebrate with you again in 40 more years! :)

This is a shameless thread hijack and case of plagiarism. Merlin so graciously took the time to be eloquent, and well, i'm sort of pooped at the moment. So, without further adieu:

<bagpipes blaring> (no sissy harp here...  :D)

On Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 10:30 AM, my trusty Sidekick and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary at Scarborough. And, just like Merlin and Nimue, it so very painful that we cannot invite every single one of you to the reception. We also have just a ton of mundanes coming (more than I expected, honestly!), who hopefully will get bitten by the Faire bug and become regulars.

The ceremony at 10:30 AM is open to all and I hope if you are not otherwise occupied that you would honor us with your attendance.

We will also be staying at the Hampton Inn the entirety of closing weekend and enjoying ourselves extensively in Row 12 for the morning tailgate. We've also purchased tickets for Flynn's Favorites at the Wine Tasting that Saturday at 3PM. We haven't told our mundanes that yet, shhh! Plus, we've asked Flynn to officiate for us, so it should be an entertaining ceremony and Wine Tasting. Our friends at Castle Canine Creations are working on similarly entertaining handfasting portion of the ceremony, Lady Kathleen of Olmstead has been tirelessly churning out our attire, and the folks at St Aubyn's Jewelry and Sapphire & Sage have been working on suitably sparkly adornments for us.

And now, the reason I am so pooped...my trusty Sidekick had a stroke two weeks ago, the Monday following his birthday (4/15) and a rather exciting weekend at Scarby. So after what was such a marvelously wonderful weekend our lives have been turned upside down a bit. But the wonderful news is that after a week in the hospital and a week in inpatient rehab, he's now a free man again and will start outpatient rehab next week. A full recovery expected, it will just take time. And the doctors assure us it wasn't caused by Faire, birthday wenchy kisses of naughtiness, or Merlin and Nim's celebration.

Soooo, if you happened to notice some stray comments between Merlin Sr and I regarding vow renewals and the gentlemanly half of the pair's health, and comments about missing last weekend and coming this Saturday in mundanes, and noticed that I'm pooped...that is why.

We will also shamelessly collect hugs at any time, because we've missed y'all and Scarby on Saturday is his reward for "graduating" from i/p rehab.

Much love to all of you!
Melissa & Bob
aka Lady Kett & Sidekick

The Baroness and I were horrified to learn of Sidekick's stroke, but are certainly relieved to learn that a full recovery is expected.  Please know that you have our very best wishes for both his complete recovery and an absolutely wonderful vow renewal.

Oh, LadyK!!!  I'm so sorry to hear of Sidekick's scary event... and so very relieved that he's expected to make a full recovery!!!  Wish we could be there to celebrate with all of you... but I know it will be just as lovely, and as lively, as the last such celebration, with as many friends, loved ones and well-wishers!  Congratulations, and many happy returns of the day...

Thanks y'all. I took him to Scarby yesterday for a few hours and while he wanted to stay longer I thought he was looking worn out so made him come home for the day. After feeding him dinner I dragged him to the grocery store for 2 hours of intense label reading. He slept for about 10 hours :) (one way to keep him out of trouble).

Today I have him cleaning the living room with me. The physical therapist from ip rehab assured me that housework would be good for him. ...since I have to keep him busy so he doesn't revert to couch potato mode...He's doomed on that front.

Why, thank you gentle beings for the lavish words, though somewhat undeserved.  The pictures nearly took themselves, and could have done no less given the subjects.

Eventually there will be more, I haven't scratched the surface of the recession or the reception yet.  Even when I have scratched the surface, I cannot begin to compare with the superb showings of Ronald the Bald.  He managed some awesome coverage.

Stalk well...

Never think even for a brief moment that I don't realize that, Lady Kett. She was beautiful when I first saw her 47 years ago, and she remains so even to this day. She is my world.

Stalkwell, I realize some of it is serendipity, but you did capture the essence of Nimue. Thank you, and all of those who were taking pictures.

There is yet another special day approaching...we need to concentrate on that....

When Nim and I first married, we borrowed my parents' car to leave the church in, since our car was pretty ragged. My folks eventually gave the car to my baby brother, and he finally sold it a couple years ago.

The guy that bought it, fully restored the car, beautifully, I might add. What do you think?

We were in a hurry to... ummm... nevermind....

I had the Olds up over 110 mph on the freeway with a lot of pedal left. I wasn't a good enough high-speed driver to want to chance going any faster.  My older brothers won a lot of money with my folks previous car, a 1967 Olds 442.

Being the non-conformist kids we were, we did not change before we left the church. Nim was in her Old South wedding dress, and I in my monkey suit. We drove to the edge of town and stopped at a Kentucky Fried Chicken and got something to eat. The folks working there thought we were totally nuts. Of course, they were right.

We didn't have any money. Armed with the chicken, we went to the apartment and... did things.  ::)

You know what? We still have a lot of fun together.  We just do different ... things...

Well, not The Official Pace Car, but the one in the picture is the one we drove away in.  The real pace car was the convertible version.

We've slowed down just a touch since we both passed the 60 marker.

Now that it's restored, sure! I'm told that there's some kind of car club that Indy lets take the pace car copies onto the track, and that the old H/O has been out there. My brother just turned loose of the car 2-3 years ago, so it stayed in the family for about 35 years.
