Title: Camping at/near the AZ faire?
Post by: Dominic_Deegan on November 15, 2010, 08:54:12 AM
I just moved to Tucson and I am planning to attend the Arizona Faire for my b-day in Feb. The two other Faires I have been to (Texas and Northern California) had camping on-site. Does this Faire also have camping on-site or at least nearby? It's something my sister and I love to do when we go to the Faires. Aldo, if there is camping, any tips for camping in Arizona in Feb. that might be different from Texas or California?

I don't know of any camping for folks visiting, but here is a link to their site and some local links to help you look around

Thanks. I had found the site already, but I didn't see anything about camping.

Camping at the Festival Site is for participants only. The closest public campground is probably the KOA Apache Junction located at 1540 South Tomahawk Road, Apache Junction, AZ. This is only 10-15 minutes away.

If your looking for more of a wilderness camping experience then I recommend Canyon Lake campground, north west of the festival site alongside a beautiful canyon lake (not the most creatively named, but spectacular non-the-less) up the historic Apache Trail from Apache Junction. This campground is about 20 miles/40 minutes from site. The road from AJ to the lake is my favorite local motorcycle ride. Actually I ride just past the lake to Tortilla Flats for lunch.

There is also the Oak Flat campground is just outside of Superior, AZ, about 20 miles/25 minutes east of the Festival.

I have limited camping experience in CA and none in TX, but I will tell you that camping in this part of AZ in Feb/Mar is COLD. It can get down below freezing at night. At any time of year even if the mercury is not that low the range between daytime highs and nighttime lows are often a greater extreme than found in other areas, which makes the nights seem much colder than you would expect.

Good luck with it, we hope to see you soon!

Thank you everyone for all your helpful advice and links.

I was really hoping to camp, but it seems more and more like my sister I will have to find other lodgings this time around. At least until we are better acquainted with the area and camping options.

Hope to see you all there come February!
