Any recomendations? Anyone hotelling it?
our website shoud have hotels which are offering faire discounts soon.
hotels all around...giddings, elgin, bastrop...all 15 miles or less away.
In one of the other threads about Sherwood Forest Faire, I posted this link for Merlin the Elder:
It's a Google Maps link showing Motels & Hotels in the area -

Once we're sure of making the trip, we're planning to book in Bastrop, preferably the Hampton Inn, with Holiday Inn Express as an alternate.
edit... The site is showing Elgin's HIExpress with a little bit of a discount. Anyone who's hotel camping have any preferences?
I live in Elgin. It is only 20 minutes from faire. The Holiday Inn is nice I hear.
Merlin - I was looking at hotels this weekend and agree HI Express in Elgin is looking promising compared to Bastrop this year. Still pondering here...
Well, we'll still be partying together at faire! I went ahead and booked us in Bastrop because the stay gets me closer to some free weekends at Hampton/Hilton, and with the **shudder** AARP discount, price was close enough for me.

So, what is the discount when you're more than 500 years old? :o ;) ;D

I promised the hotelier that I wouldn't turn him into warthog, and he promised he wouldn't throw a bucket of water on my niece, the Wicked Witch of the West, and $98 a night.
Okie dokie- We are booked at the Hampton Inn in Bastrop for 2/18-2/21.
On priceline we got a better deal than what was offered for Sherwood patrons at the other hotels.
We have bought tickets for Sat & Sun.
We will see all you wonderful people soon.
We called the Best Western listed on Sherwood's website because I have a gold club card with them. But they claimed to have no knowledge of the Sherwood patron special rate.
While not as convenient for us as it is our great Queen, we are only about 45 minutes from faire. It is such a treat after the 3 hour trip it takes to get to TRF!

If I have to hotel it, I use that Holiday Inn Express by the McDonald's in Elgin. It is about $100 a night before taxes, but of a known good quality. I'm sure there are other, more inexpensive places, though. I might start looking around, especially in Giddings.
I tink Laid Robert and Lady Kett will also be at the Hampton in Bastrop.
Maybe we can make a party of it on Friday night.
Sounds like a winner to me!

We are still planning to make it out! Probably hotel it. I will let ya know once we are confirmed. We can bring something to the reception as well if we are able to make it.
So... where are all the folks staying that aren't camping on grounds?
Bonny Pearl- we got a great deal on a king suite at the Hampton in Bastrop through priceline. Will you be joining our merry band Friday night?

Hi Dona C! It looks like we will be camping after all. We will be up late Friday evening. See you soon!

Looks like that is the plan. :)

It is time...
Awesome, can't wait to see it - Does it have a nice throaty rumble?
It's a Ford F250 4x4 twin turbo diesel...I'm ready to go...c'mon Sherwood. Open, open, open, open... (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2634/3928905587_4e53501c81_o.gif)

What is the tow rating on that beast? The cool thing about the turbo diesels is that they can go into Oregon or other high altitude places and not lose horsepower or torque like normally aspirated engines do.

Maximum loaded trailer weight is 12,500 lbs. I believe.
I put Sherwood on my Facebook calendar and invited about 10 people who I thought were likely to go just so they would know which weekend we had planned.
I just looked at the responses and 342 people are now on the attendees list. I didn't know you could add people to someone else's event.
My husband and I are staying at the Best Western around there-I don't have the room rate in front of me, but I was told by my husband earlier last week that it was a little pricey this year, which is kinda meh, but oh well.
We're planning on camping but the temperature concerns me...does anyone know if there are any Choice hotels in the area...comfort inn, comfort suites, quality inn, econo lodge, etc...My family has a choice priviledges card so wed save money and get points...might even have a free night...
Ariel:
Budget Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, all pretty near us in Bastrop. Planning a dinner gathering Friday night, if you're there by then.
