Only 11.571428571428571428571428571429 weeks left!!!! :-\ Christmas and New Year will make time fly so its really only a couple weeks not counting the holiday months.
Can you be a little more specific? ::)
Drink from the HORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Opening is a three day weekend monday is federal holiday presidents day

the wife is off monday means I don't have to drive
:D
Huzzah for a countdown!
I believe today is 79 days till Opening. This being my virgin start in a countdown thread, and due to the fact that I am an ardent follower of Jules' Rennie Math...I do not guarantee the accuracy of that number! :)
I tried to make mine as accurate as possible but like I stated, not counting holiday months, its just a few weeks.
Jules are you out there what is the official rennie count?/

I fear that the time will speed past! I shall savor each day until Sherwood opens!Anticipation is a good thing! Can't wait- but I will.
And I shall be back in time for opening weekend! WHOOHOO! *does happydance*
Now, I just need to find a place to camp, convince my wife to come out if frigid weather, figure out what to do about Fíonna now that she is mobile and crawls everywhere, buy a new tent specific for Sherwood, make sure it all fits into the car, etc. :D
Yes
WOOOO HOOOOOO
well met and see you at sherwood
Having a hard time waiting, myself! We're shooting for opening weekend, but we'll just have to see...

Wow - We really need to get the level of enthusiasm up in this forum.
Oh, I think it's more to do with a general lack of time, rather than enthusiasm... the holidays are upon us, and everyone is very busy! I'm guessing things will pick WAY up after the first of the new year!

I was just out there a week from last Saturday- I only live 20 minutes away- and even I am excited! There is a lot to be excited about! It was SO MUCH FUN last year!!!
the holiday season is taking everyones tiem as stated above just wait until January roles in
I'm a little afraid to get too excited, unfortunately... I'm still not sure if we'll be able to make the trip, so I'm trying really hard not to count chickens that haven't even been LAID yet, much less hatched! (ok, now STOP that, oh pervie ones...)
I'm still just in the hoping stage... and the "creative accounting" stage, as well. :D

Can we name the added month "Bob?" It's easy to spell—even if you spell it backwards, you're correct. Try that with February! How would you even pronounce "Yraurbef?"

Okay now...we're starting to make some real progress on this calendar redesign. We should also do away with Mondays, since they always suck, and Fridays, since nobody ever gets anything done because they're planning for the weekend. Actually we're staying at Ye Olde Super 8, but we can definitely hook up in Bastrop! I think Angus is staying there too.

Currently that is true. The SWFF camp ground is a pay-per-person site. So anyone wanting to gain access will have to pony up.
It'd be nice if they did a half price access pass with an ID left at the main gate to be retrieved on your way out for visitors passing through.
But isn't it still only $5 for the weekend this year? That's not bad, even for just visiting!
Alas, we have found it necessary to raise our prices to $10/person/weekend! We've doubled the size of the campground in anticipation of a groundswell of campers (and the parking lot too, for daytrippers). In addition to that we've added toilets and showers, which we are working to make available to campers after hours. All these things sound simple but are actually quite costly for us. We hope you understand that in our nascent state we have to nickel and dime a little bit.
Our campgrounds are a major source of community spirit and camaraderie. It would be unfortunate for folks that have come from so far to miss out on that! But for those that wish to reside in the comfort of a private hotel room, consider the properties on our website (http://www.sherwoodforestfaire.com/lodging/) that are offering discounts to Sherwood Forest Faire patrons. You need to call on the telephone to book with the discount (sorry about that!). If you use those hotels, let us know how it goes - we kept a couple of last year's off our list this year due to negative patron feedback and would be happy to refine our listings further.
Is there and age limit on the camping fee? I'll have my 9y/o with me, if we're able to attend, and I hadn't figured $20 for camping into our budget.
Have there been other price increases I should know about in advance? Are use of the showers included in the camping price?

Rani,

permant showers/flushies from what I've picked up on the net.
Well, with gas prices what they are now, and a few other factors... it's looking less and less like we'll be able to make it to Sherwood at all this year, anyway. :'(
Thanks for the info, though... and who knows, something could still happen to turn things around and get us there, after all.

Just FYI, the Best Western had no idea there was supposed to be a special rate for Sherwood patrons. I think almost all of the hotel people are booked at the Hampton in Bastrop. Their prices last week were $89-$97 through priceline.

I'll give it a shot till Jules blesses us with her presence...
Today doesn't count (-1)
Football weekends don't count (-2 this weekend, -2 for next weekend, then the pro-bowl game [Sidekick says this only counts as -1, not full weekend for a -2], -2 for Superbowl weekend [Sidekick says -4 to include Friday and Monday if the Steelers are in the Superbowl, we'll hold that thought for now...]) (subtotal -7 minimum, possibly -9)
We plan on going to FlaRF on 2/11, so 2/11 through 2/14 don't count (-4)
Then we would leave for SFF on 2/18, so the 18th doesn't count. (-1)
Merlin, if you leave on Thursday, we could make that -2.
So....36-1-7-4-1 = 23 days maximum till faire, possbily extended by -2 additional for Steelers in the Superbowl and possbily -1 additional depending on Merlin's travel days, for a low end of 20 days till Faire.
Oh Wait! My birthday is in January, so that totally doesn't count! That brings us to 22 max, 19 min on the Rennie Math count!
Whew, I had to work hard for that. Merlin, can I have a sip of that Jack Daniels now? ??? :D

Thank you, Don Juan! Getting more and more excited about the trip... Was just trying to figure out the best route from here, weighing time, distance, and quality of road. If anyone knows anything especially helpful along these lines, the best route from Texarkana would help. (There's only one road from my castle to Texarkana that I would consider)
Well, I am at day zero until Faire. Moved the trailer onsite behind my Son's booth (#113 by the Greenwood Stage). Was a good place to get out of the rain this weekend. Even with the rain, we had a good turnout of volunteers to help get the Faire ready for opening.
Sholo came onsite Friday. I didn't recognize him with all his clothes on. I knew his name, but when he introduced himself it "didn't click" until about 30 minutes later.
Shall I say that the cast is getting into high gear. I watched several rehearsals and was impressed. This second year is going to be even bigger and better than the first year.
There are several new vendor booths under construction. The tent circle up the hill to the pub has been replaced by hard-booths. More tent booths from the first year are being replaced with hard-booths. Vendors have found that Sherwood Forest Faire is here to stay.
The main parking lot has doubled. We have constructed two rows for RV/TRavel trailer camping in the main parking lot. We have increased the space in the General/Open Patrons campgrounds, plus added five groups in the reserved Patrons campgrounds.
My little group is pretty stoked about coming down there for the first time this year. Really looking forward to the experience.

Less than a month
Four weeks from this moment I should be closing in on the area...initial destination: Bastrop.
I'm sorry. 30 days is too many!!
- Today doesn't count, it's almost over (-1)
- Football weekends don't count (-2 for this weekend, then -1 for the pro-bowl game and -2 for Superbowl weekend [additional -2 if the Steelers make the Superbowl) (subtotal -5 minimum, possibly -7)
- We are going to FlaRF so 2/11 to 2/14 don't count (-4) [Huzzah! Jury Duty Deferred]
- We leave for Sherwood on 2/18, so that doesn't count (-1)
- Really now, opening weekend for Sherwood shouldn't count either (-2)
- And my birthday is still to come in January so that doesn't count (-1)
You can have your 30 days, I'm going with 16 days till Faire! :P
My gawd that made me heed hurt.
So guess I will see you for opening day at least twice then. Maybe more. :)
LOL, I suppose I really shouldn't count opening weekend at all. I obviously have my mental wires crossed on Sherwood and Scarborough, don't I?
I may need to revise that to 18 not 16...there's a reason I'm not a mathemetician!

AAAhhhh so much to do.... I've been whining for Sherwood to start, now I think I need a 10 day extension.
Only 3 more weekends to go!!! I am ready. I hope my good weather spells are too!
Merlin have you cast the good weather spell yet????
This is Queen Bonnie's turf! My magic is limited in her area of control. I have toasted a few newts and bled a couple of chickens just in case...
Maybe we should be toasting some scotch and jack daniels to help our wizards out!
Are we there yet?
I've been toasting so much, I'm pretty well toast for tonight... Thanks, Jack! The Wizard is in good shape...for the shape he's in...

We are just now considering the 5 hour drive from Ardmore to Sherwood. Sounds like a wonderful Faire and we are really wanting to go....Maybe one March weekend?
You won't regret it - And I believe its March 18 that the faire is open on Friday for a 3 day weekend.
Ryk! Come opening weekend! All the totally groovy Rennies will be there, and you have a short trip! It's longer than that to my home faire!
I think the largest group from the forum will be there opening.

Oh yeah, you guys are making the craving worse! We are going to really talk about it and try to come opening weekend. Will need to get a hotel booked. Would love to camp, but don't have everything we'd need. Can't wait to share the Sherwood experience.
Crave on, lad. We are absolutely ecstatic about this trip! Bastrop is on the other side of Sherwood from you, but not enough to worry. It appears that most of the hotel campers will be there, the largest contingency is at the Hampton. You should really try hard to join us!
Made up our minds...coming opening weekend and will call the Hampton in Bastrop this week to see if there are still open rooms. I'll message you Merlin and give you guys our contact info. If you are driving down, you may be taking our same route?? And while you're thinking of opening weekend, how about casting a spell for fantastic weather!!
C'mon Sherwood, I am ready to go!
The Feast on the 12th then opening weekend ;D

Very good, Ryk! I don't think we'll be on the same route. We're coming from Arkansas. You'll be coming down I-35 from Oklahoma? But regardless, it looks like the Bastrop will be a major party! We're going to start our trip down about 5:00 am, the time we normally head off to work. The biggest bummer of the weekend is that Rani and Scully aren't going to make it.
Awww... that's so sweet, Merlin! Scally and I will be think of you all, though! And I'm sure the whole weekend will be absolutely marvelous, even without us! :D

All you need is some Rennie Math, Pat!
- Pro-Bowl game weekend has 1 day that doesn't count [-1]
- Super Bowl game weekend doesn't count. And because Sidekick is a Steelers fan, not only does that count Sat & Sun, but the Fri before and Mon after [-4]
- We leave for FlaRF on 2/11, so Fri, Sat & Sun don't count [-3]
- We leave for Sherwood on Fri 2/18, so it doesn't count either [-1]
So, that's total of 9 days I get to remove from Merlin's latest count.
10 DAYS TILL FAIRE! :)
Somehow, it still feels like Sherwood is never going to get here. :-[

Beckgam,
I was holding off buying my tickets, thinking there was a chance I was going to win some free ones! Then I remembered: I'm over 59 years old, and I've never won anything in my life. I bought tickets yesterday.
PS: You're only bringing a fifth of whiskey?!?
Heck, my opening weekend was several weeks ago.
You are going to love the new construction that has taken place. Expanded jousting arena, replacement of tent booths with hard booths in several areas where the first year vendors found a new home, new performers (some of them TRF favorites), expansion of the General/Open campgrounds, addition of RV/Trailer camping in the main parking lot, doubling of the main parking lot area, flushing toilets by the main gate and up by the Pub, showers in the Patrons campgrounds, doubling the Participants campgrounds area, etc.
From what I saw from the Performance cast from last weekend, things are going to be great this season.
Sherwood Forest Faire is here to stay and ready to entertain.
See ya 'all in 2 weeks or so.

PS a fifth for the day tripp, this is enough only one day
we took the following for closing weekend at TRF 4 wonderful days but flipping cold nights
all fifth's
whiskey 1
vodka 3
cinnamon snapps 1
peppermint snhapps 1
Cpt Morgan 1/2 gallon
1case Michelob
1 case miller light
that was just refreshments not including kids beverages
but I do not believe the stripper pole will be in camp ground at sherwood
mPullen, I doubt that I'll see any improvement...being that I've never been there! We are so much looking forward to your faire!
Beckgam, you had a good list going there until you hit the Miller Lite...EEEEWWWWWW! ;)

Dona Catalina,
What wine do you recommend with cinnamon rolls?
Polly PoPo
Oh, if you've never been to an early morning tailgate then you've got a real treat coming! Just be aware that someone may ask you to help them with their laces while you're trying to get a bit of vino and pastry into yourself before you go in through the gates! :D It's always nice when people show up with something to share, also... whether it's a box of doughnuts or a flask of something particularly yummy! ;)

Dona Catalina,

Polly PoPo
Cinnamon is a pretty strong flavor, so I would recommend a dry Rose like Wine of Anjou, or a fruity red like Sangre de Toro. :) ;)
Sherry or port might work with cinnamon rolls? Brandy works with anything! LOL!
I hear Rusty Nails have been known to change someone's whole day... :D
My personal favorite will always be Mimosas, though! Mmmmm...
no matter what I say, I have not visited Al Cohol before Noon, in 10 years
I was much younger and did not feel the effects of his influence as I do now
(drink, drank, drunk, falldown, sleep, No problem)
Most of us here would never do so anywhere buy Faire, either. It can be fun to have a nip or two before going in the gate, and then run around like mad greeting everyone, getting our various morning goodies, seeing an early show and generally working off whatever it was we drank at morning tailgate... before finding the pub and filling our tankards! :D Personally, since I can seldom afford the pub prices for more than one cider a day, a bit in the morning and whatever I can fit into a small flask is usually all I'll have during a day at Faire, so I seldom have to worry about over-indulging. I'm usually more concerned with figuring out where the water fountains are so that my mug is seldom empty...

We are so pumped for this trip! In fact, we're pumped up for this season. So much so, in fact, that we wanted to make sure that our traveling would be in comfort. Yesterday, we went "just to look." Well, now we can look any time we want, because it's parked in the garage. Now, if the boss doesn't give me that raise, Nim & I are on bread & water for the next 5 years...
Beckgam462, visitation of Al before a certain time is kind of dependent upon one's schedule. My day starts at 4 am, ends around 8pm (during work week) so I adjust. But Rani is right as Rain (which you will notice is an anagram...) Rules are different for faire, with the only exceptions being those who are Allergic to Alcohol (AA). By Royal Decree, they shall be exempt from shooters, goblets of wine, et al, and shall instead receive our support to aid in their quest for recovery...
Rani Merlin

The only time I had alcohol for breakfast was outside fair was twenty years ago in Vegas when I won a vendor sponsored trip for his lordship and myself. There was a welcome breakfast for all the attendees and they servied mimosas. My day normally starts at 4:15am and ends between 8pm and 9pm so I rarely drink anything besides water during the week. But Rani is right as rain about parking lot breakfasts. (nods to Merlin).

Knight's tale rocks ,
but i still prefer the kingdom of heaven
Actually, I don't think I've seen that one. I'll put it on my NetFlix list ... done...top of the list. Much of my fondness for A Knight's Tale is due to the anachronisms and humour. I've also a fondness for the babes in the film. Ledger's sweetie Jocelyn is my least favourite of the three babes, but a babe nonetheless.
