Might as well make it official
I agree wholeheartedly!! But 23 weeks or 160 days sounds so much shorter. :D
Tis official - we can now count the months on one hand; well, most of us... ;D
is it faire yet?
There's actually two countdowns for CoRF this year. My sights are on RenDezvous.

Glad to hear it, Merlin! The Baroness and I are looking very much forward to you and as many other rendezvous'rs as we can locate.
Just 22 weeks from this very day we will once again be gathered at Larkspurshire for opening canon. HUZZAH!
yay then we will be warm too! ( I am over this winter thing lol)
Can hardly wait!!!
Are we there yet? ;D
Looking at my plane tickets.... my hotel info.... this is going to be fun

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!!
Just 10 weeks until opening canon!!!!
Good Lord, 10 weeks... that's reeeeeaaaaaally a scary thought, haha. So much to do before the season starts!
Incidentally, hello all! Been a while since I've really visited the boards. Seems a tad quiet around here lately.
Ok! Now I'm ready for faire! Do we really have to wait till June???? I don't think I can wait. Looking for another faire to visit to ease the anticipation. Any recommendations out there?
I've had three Faire dreams thus far, and I"m still 79 days out until my Faire this year.
Let's see... I had the Colorado Tartan Day festival last weekend, my living history group is presenting at a writer's conference in Colorado (in garb of course!) 2 weeks from tomorrow. I'm going to the Timberlane Farm May Day festival in Loveland after the writers conference, the weekend after that is the Fort Lupton Heritage Days festival... And then I have some time to recover before CoRF's Celtic Fling weekend! No more jonesing for me...
I know the feeling nighthawk

Ren-devous is my faire this year. That's my only weekend all year. I don't have a home faire anymore. Montana is apparently too...something...to have faires. But, I will totally see you at CoRF July 2 and 3! Only 77 days ( I think)
If Montana had a good Faire I would probably want to live there again! It's soooo beautiful...

Baaaaaaaaaaad Scot!
Tanda ... "home faire" doesn't have to mean the faire where you live. my home faire is in Southern California. That's where I started this wild and crazy ride, and I do try to make it there every year. And faire friends and fairemily tend to stick with you even when you move.

Oh dear, he's onto Scotland Depraved now... Heaven help us...
Haha, in any case I've actually had a fair quantity of faire dreams lately too. But like... weird and unsettling faire dreams. Dreams about going back and having the place be completely different... different and... I dunno, bad. It's almost scary. Like Sauruman taking over the Shire...
Still, it does seem a little like this could be the case, as practically none of the folks I used to work with will be working with me anymore... I'm afraid it'll be like coming back to your own house but the furniture is all moved around... or... something...
Oh yeah, and the "Ill Repute" to which Sir Garath is referring is actually the "Pirates of Ill Repute." That being the smallish, somewhat informal pirate group I run. We gots lotsa stuff coming up before faire :)

It was absolutely miserable especially for those of us who had to work and remain in one location all day. Ugh. Terrible.
Considering the weather so far this year, we might be in for a cool season--but I hope I shall be proved wrong.
shhh dont give the weather any ideas.... Mother Nature is having enough of a snit already!

Cold and wet I can tolerate. It was the 1.5" hail that ruined my day!
Do NOT like the cold mixed with rain or drizzle.
The One and Only time I went to fair in my 20+ years of going to CoRF that was not in garb, it was cold as all hell. I like a dumby wore shorts as did my my ex. I bought a half moon capot (jacket) and I stayed warm and dry after that, but by that time we were ready to leave and I kept offering to share it with my ex, I gt to wear it all day long. Toki has inherited it from me.
It was a horrible day. And when you hand wash your garb like I have to, mud is NOT fun to clean out, and I do wash my garb every weekend.
I know! I felt like I had half the faire in my hems after that weekend.
And the hail was the 4th of july if I remember
Yes, I DEFINITELY remember the hail. My castaway finally got a bath though, haha :D
I ca't recall if I was there for opening weekend or not (sad, right?), but I do know all about the cold and damp that weekend. Here's hoping we get lots of sunny, 70's to low 80's weather this summer! No 90's and 100's please!
I believe the descriptions were "fargen cold" and "absolutely miserable". I would have to agree! Cold enough for gloves and it felt more like November than June!!! YUK!! Let's pray this opening weekend's weather is much better or I may follow in the wise Lady DeLaney's footsteps and stay HOME!

Cold=good, hail=NOT good
Hail is definitely not good. I got caught in a hailstorm driving home once. The van only got hit by one hailstone, but it literally powdered the windshield where it hit. It was the size of a softball. I always thought people were exaggerating until I saw these hailstones that day.

We'd take 85 and be happy. It's when it gets in the mid to high 90's or more that we don't like. 100 in royal garb = Killer even with tons of liquid We had 1 day like that last year and I was working court and was near dead by 2 PM. Lucky me I was off after 2 so I finally got time to sit in shade and drink, drink, drink... lots of water, iced tea and lemonade
I think your 85 is a lot nicer than our 85. The humidity down here can be suffocating.
i like the days that has a light mist all day or a rain shower in the afternoon, either one helps to keep the dust down through out the day.
Well temp if its going to be a hot one i may wear a kilt that day or not have so much of my pirate gear on.
Love it here (Iowa) when it is 90+ both in temp and humidity :'(
We Coloradan's think that anything over 25% relative humidity is dreadfully muggy -- unless it's snowing. :o
C'mon... you guys are killin' me, here!!! I miss home so much I can almost taste it!
It tastes a bit like Eldorado Springs water, I think... ;)
When i first moved here from San Diego with so little humidity in the air i was wearing shorts all the time cause even though it was cold without the humidity it dosn't feel as cold as it is.
Totally true (although I've never found San Diego that humid, for a coastal city). I went to the Pittsburgh faire for one weekend a while back, after the owners of our faire bought it, and it was about 90 or so, in both heat and humidity... I was wearing a woolen dreadlock wig... I am surprised I survived, haha. I do love my dry Colorado air. Something I'm seriously going to miss when I eventually leave.

Haha, yeah... I've gotta say, I really respect folks who actually dread their hair, because I know I couldn't do it! They would drive me nuts! But I think the wig is fairly convincing at least, heh...

When I was a teenager, I visited Denver in mid-November...some snow on the ground. Ran around downtown barefoot and didn't feel cold. 25% humidity?? I don't think our hygrometers go down that low!
And this is why the mountain rock.

Alas, Goode Wizard, methinks $15.95 per ticket is about the best one can do. Fortunately, one need not rely upon the vagaries of either the mythical WWW or the USPS to obtain entry at that price: His Majesty's Soopers is located less than a mile from your intended lodging, and will be happy to provide you all the tickets you desire at that rate.
Haha... "His Majesty's Soopers"... this stuff never gets old :P
I was wondering about tickets as well. Here's hoping we can get group discount tix for the RenDezvous. Less $$ spent on tickets means more to spend at the pub! ;)

Not Likely. We've been trying for years to get Friends of Faire and always get shot down. Group discount tickets will be $2.00 less at The royal market. The Kiings advisors have decree'd these even with MUCH grumbling from his royal paytrons and not so royal paytrons. All in all it is not a pricy faire compared to some I have heard. it is actually MUCH cheaper than other places.
I would suggest to those traveling in for Renezvous weekend to hold off on online tix (service charge) and opt for getting tix from King Soopers the night before or even that morning of faire.

We are also staying at the Best Western - King's is right across the interstate. We will be arriving Friday afternoon and picking tickets up when we get there. Let me know if we can help you out here.
Since kids are free, do they need any type of ticket still? or are they just admitted at the gate with a paying adult (not me, but M'Lady qualifies as an adult).

You need not obtain childrens' tickets before you show up at the gate. Before opening canon, there will be cast members out front handing out free tickets for the kiddies. (Might even be the Baroness and Myself if we're not assigned to the parapet for the opening gate show again this season!) I'm not sure what the process is after canon, but I've never heard any complaints, so I suspect it is fairly hassle-free.
Also, in addition to the King's Soopers Market place, Lady Wendy's offers a two for one special good for opening weekend... :o
I'll wait until we arrive to purchase tickets. By the time we buy the gas to drive 1000 miles, a dollar or two difference in ticket prices isn't going to mean squat. All that we're working on now is deciding which route we want to take. Leaning toward Rani's suggestion (thru the OK panhandle) versus Kansas, hoping for better scenery. Any thoughts?

All depends on the weather. Lets Hope for good dry warm not Hot opening day weather.

So I'm putting together my paperwork getting ready for that part of faire and I'm making notations of the themed weekends so I can plan accordingly..........and I notice... opening weekend is called "Defy Ordinary" Can anyone on cast dare to Define...Defy Ordinary.... What do I wear on that day??
Defy Ordinary

Defy ordinary... So I should wear pants. Kilts are, for me, ordinary every day wear.
So since its defy ordinary and ordinary is dressing in garb to go to faire does that mean we should wear mundane clothes? or since ordinary is going to faire does it mean we should do something else instead of faire.

Back to the question: without sunblock, or keeping my hood up, frying the head is/can be a serious problem.
Merlin,
All joking aside, you (and other out-of-staters) should mark carefully that the front gate at Larkspurshire is located roughly 6800 feet above sea level. That's 6800 fewer feet of atmosphere between your bald spot and old sol. In truth, I've seen 2nd degree burns walk out of the gate at closing canon! Don't forget the sunscreen!!!
Gramercy, good Baron. That is already on my checklist. I'm hoping that the weather will be cooperative enough that I can keep my hood up. It would be best for all...I'm one scary looking wizard...

Came back here just in time for faire! I'm so excited, because this year I'm going as a pirate so we'll see how that works out...
Mistress Charlotte, huzzah for feathered friends! (And boo, hiss for mud!)
Let's see ... 11 days!?
I'm hoping to be able to wear my new pirate garb by the end of the season ... but I need to find the right kind of fabric and create a pattern to make the kind of skirt and trousers I have in my head.

new pants done and just staining it with instant coffee right now
Baldric is done
just have to glue the pins on the back of my favors and they are done.
shirt needs to be finished made then dirty it up and rip it up some.
Oh dear.....favors.... I need to get on that!
Gah! Favors!!!
down to just getting my shirt done.
Favors have pins glued to the back now.
FAVORS?! Oh crud! I've not made any in 2 years! Shoot and double damn!
*adding to the list*
Only TEN more days by my count. Tomorrow and we're into single digits. Not checking the weather yet, but almost a solid week of good weather behind us. Woo hoo! We're hoping to be there opening day.
Well, let's see... I finally got my lazy butt in gear and started my period-correct scabbard for my sword. Should have that done by Monday... Then I need to make myself a new pair of moccasins... Once those are done, I should be ready for the rest of the festival season!! :o
***EDIT*** My baldric isn't done either!! CRAP!!
I feel your pain. I've still got to make new braids for my beard (bein' Jack and all), a new shirt, weather and/or dye a good deal of my other gear, and somehow get it all organized and ready to move into my trailer by... oh... about yesterday.... And I'm still waiting on my damnable boots to come.
Incidentally, please boycott caboots.com, as they are evil incarnate. I shall not elaborate further at this time.
wait.....what? a festival? a RENAISSANCE festival?
why was I not informed about this?
where? when?
sounds like something I might be interested in........
Zoe- Call Paul. you know he'll hire you for something. and if not, I'll bet Melissa will. ;)

Thanks for the tip! I will keep that in mind.
***EDIT*** Dear GODS!! At an average
starting point of $550 a pair, you'd think they could get you your product on time!! I will most
assuredly not be buying anything from them!!

I just got off the phone with him and he's giving me a position back. Probably back in Main Pop, but we'll see for certain when I go see him next week.
Garlands are up in the booth! So Pretty!.
Mud is gone from the booth.... and the floor washed and ready to paint.... then the wind....oh my the wind... such wind.... really.... could there have been more wind... I really thought we could have use more wind........
I left... I hope the flowers are still attached to the garlands. Back another day to finish.
That wind was something terrible up here in Ft. Collins too. Let's hope we have some good weather juju for faire this season, because we need it!
1 Week!!!
... and counting!
Eep! Here I was not planning on being there every weekend, and now I am....where is all of my garb?!
Flowers made it through the wind! Huzzah for that! Floor is paintined and looks fabulous!!! Will move in Tuesday or Wed. Prolly Wed.... Tuesday is my Son's 21st birthday!! How can that be????
I saw Jack today! He looks beautiful!... Princesses Elizabeth... She looks more beautifuler. The Baroness! Yeah for the blue!!! (Baron did she happen to lose a piece of pink fabric. Found one near we were chatting). Saw the Professor and Garland Chris!! oh and who else??? hmmmm AND Lenny and Bambi!!
Mistress Charlotte,
Your booth looks splendid! Not quite as lovely as your face-art, but almost.
How you birthed a 21 year-old when you are but 33 yourself will forever remain a mystery.
I concur fully that Princess Elizabeth is looking more beautiful than ever this year, but Captain Jack???? Surely you mistake beard beading for beauty, My Dear Lady.
I have queried the Baroness regarding the possible loss of pink fabric. She admits to having lost money, jewels, checkbook, and passport, but adamantly denies having lost any pink fabric.
We look very much forward to seeing you opening weekend.

We are ready to go too! All we have to do is the last minute round up of things that need to come along.. Like HAMSTERS! ( who hide at the bottom of laundry baskets and scare the peas out of me)

Boy do I understand that one... I opened up a box looking for renaissance things and out popped Giselle and Rock! Startled me silly
My hamsters live on my desk...always looking down on me, like little muses.
Near panic tonight when my favorite pants just couldn't be found. Fortunately, they've turned up. Whew! Almost there. Stay on target. Use the force, Luke.

what is this hamster thing? and where the "ell is Delirious.....er......Demetrius?
Once again my hamster pirate found my rum stash and i haven't seen him in months.
Well i started the pre hydration for faire been drinking more water and such.
So last night I started to make favors... and it being my first time doing so I have a question. Is it widely accepted to use safety pins for the clasps? I'm still kind of a newb at this.
That is up to you on the favors. Last year for me i made pirate flags that hung on a string with a small safety pin so people could attach them. Also last year i know a couple that didn't have much time so they got a coin ziplok bag put beads and a string in it with a safety pin through the plastic and said make your own favor.
I hope this helps

I'm thriftier yet, I just hand out a piece of paper with item list that they can go buy themself :)
Haha thanks. So excited now because we have just a few more days! Hope to see some of you guys there. :)
If it sticks it works!
Hmmm... Not sure I agree, Zoë. I tried to give some out a while back and people started running after I stapled the very first one to a Scotsman's forehead. When I regained consciousness, everyone was gone. I guess nobody appreciated my gesture of friendship....
I'd suppose arrows would be a bit too rough...

That "Make your own" favor is one of my favorites. I left it in the baggie...

Counting down, count me in! Will be there Saturday although I have been out of town for three (3) weeks and I am severely (severely!) irked that I haven't had time to make a bunch of new garb. :-)

Huzzah!!
i just looked at the clock and realized that this time tomorrow i will be pulling into the parking lot.
Less than a day til Opening themed weekend "Defy Ordinary"
So I was thinking...........
I might go as one of the Marx Brothers.......
Chico - The Wise Guy
Harpo - the silent yet horn honking blonde fro'd wild eyed brother w/steampunk hat.
Groucho - The Mastermind.
Zeppo or Gummo - The two lesser knowns.
OR all of the first three!
OR
A Pinball Wizard - there has to be a twist. Pinball WIzard, s'got such a supple wrist. Hmmmmm
OR
The entire Spanish Inquisition, with entirely too many inquisitive questions for all.
"What's your name? Where do you live? How old are you? Briefs or Boxers? When is the parade? Whose your daddy?"
OR
BwaHaHAhwahaHA!
Then It came to me....
Something
Completely
Different
What will you Defy?

Come now, Spleen. We all know it boils down to ... what Scarlett will allow.
Regardless, we look very much forward to seeing you on the morrow, Friend.
Two weeks ago I was UTTERLY freaking out. I was unemployed for a year and in that year of unemployment and sitting all day hunting for a job I put on weight. SO 4 weeks ago I started working out knowing I had gained weight. Two weeks ago I tried on my faire garb and to my horror it was WAY TO SMALL. I mean 1 inch plus. So I dug in and really hit the work outs hard. And in that 2 weeks time I have managed to get into my faire garb.
i am Looking so forward to faire tomorrow. YEAH. Hard work and time to Party like the Queen I am :)
