Just curious if anyone here is planning on attending the preview? Nim and I are making the trip again this year.
I have for the last several years and will probably do so again.
We have made every year since they started the FOF preview. We probably will this year. But before you drive down from Arkansas for it, the site opens late Sunday afternoon and I believe closes at 6.
That is not to say we wouldn't be glad to see you. ;D
Nope
Been there every year for this but going to pass on it this year. Not sure if I am even going to get a FOF since 14 of 17 people I usually come with wont be coming as much since they can't get season tickets.
Most likely not more likely to go to Sherwood for closing weekend.
Doña, we've come down the past two years, but we didn't know you then! This will be preview #3. We kinda get off on having the shire pretty much to ourselves, relatively speaking. One of the things that really surprised us was the difference between preview weekend and opening weekend in the way things looked.

I wish I had gotten the same point-of-view, but check out the tree, center field in upper pic, right in lower pic. Only six days between shots!
Do you and the Don come in garb?
That is a great set of photos....hard to believe , eh?
On preview weekend we come in plain clothes at the request of the faire management.
The preview weekend is also an opportunity for any new cast members to get their first taste of performing for a crowd.
If I can get my hands on a FoF pass this year, sure, I'll definitely see ya'll there.
But who knows at this point. Everything is pretty up in the air. :-\
Just bought the FOF yesterday so the wife and I will probably be there.
We were there in 2009 and shared the experience of waiting for our FOF pictures. It was nice visiting the village while it was quiet and empty, although we hardly found anyone that we knew...walked around by ourselves (talked to Richard P. aka VII) and ate the dinner. We skipped 2010 but are considering coming back this year. Would like to meet more faire folke though and get to know some of you all. We'll decide in February. If not, we will see you all on opening day.
IF I get a FOF pass (still deciding on that) I know I won't be going to the picnic. We're stuck deciding what to do for the girlfriends ticket. She only goes about 4 or 5 times so FOF pass is definitely out so we have to decide if want to pay 24 at the gate or try and "guess" how many times she will go and buy the daily tickets up front for 20. Honestly right now I'm still pissed at Scarby with their getting rid of the season pass.
Maybe this helps-maybe not. I'm just offering an alternative-
You get 2 free passes for first 2 weekends with the FOF, so that's 2 admissions covered.
If you buy the new weekend pass for $32, that's 2 more admissions. You are now 4 tickets for $32 outlay.
If you buy and additional weekend pass, for another $32, you now have 6 admissions, you get to be there everyday, she gets to come 6 times, and you are spending $64. Less than the old Season Pass.
Again, not preaching, just trying to help you out.
I'm working on the money for an FOF pass...I will for sure be there unless something major happens

Tom Thumb always sells tickets at a discount too
I'll be there for the first time as a new member of cast ;D I cannot wait!
Well, congratulations! Even without my garb, the beard might give me away... :D

Congrats!!
We have our FOF passes and have decided that we will likely come to the picnic, although if gas is $10 per gallon by then we might now!!! I hope these gas prices slow their climb a bit! It's terrible. We plan on going at least 6 weekends this year and wish w had a magic carpet. We would love to meet and get to know some of you guys. We'll look forward to seeing you at the preview and if not there, see ya opening day!
Meh! What else is there to spend money on? We'll be there for Preview, then again the following week for opening. We're also attending opening at Sherwood, and planning to go to RenDezvous, with a possible trip to OkRF. Total of about 5000 miles. Hopefully, it won't rise too much from what it is now. It's a little under $3 here in central Arkansas.
The gas in Texas is a different formulation. I get significantly better gas mileage with Texas gas.

Good point Merlin, what else IS there to spend money on!!?? We will likely be there for preview. Would love to get down to Sherwood, that's a maybe - it sounds like a fantastic faire. Give us a shout if you do go to OKRF and we might hook up the same weekend! We live in Ardmore (just moved up from Bowie, TX) and considered a trip to OKRF...it's been 7 years since I've been there. We'll look forward to meeting you somefaire.
I think we are going to take off work the Friday of Norman (two days before Scarby's preview). We went last year to Norman froze our...accessories off. Lots of vendors there and a good place to stock up on new accessories, garb, etc.
Looking forward to it, Ryk! We've met (face-to-face) and cyber-met a lot of good folks here on R/F since I joined last May—unfortunately a week or so after RenDezvous happened at our home faire! Ah, well...
The crack about what to spend money on was just for levity's sake. It's been hard on a lot of folks since the economy started diving for the toilet in 2007. I've a high-stress job and faire is my oasis. I'll give up a lot to go to faire.

The free passes help but unfortunately they are only for the first two weekends, of which one is out for sure (Scarby could have at least lifted the restriction for FOF folks). Weekend passes don't help because she can only go for one day of the weekend - not both. This is why the season pass was perfect for her. Thanks for trying to help though. Appreciate it.

Just a note: You do not have to use both halves of the weekend pass on the same weekend, per something that Orvis said on an earlier thread. You may want to look into that before dismissing the option completely.

Yea... we are in the same boat.... would be nice if the free tickets could be used any weekend. Restricting them to only the first 2 does us no good since we will miss one of these weekends.
We are still debating on how we are going to do this season... probably just come out 2 weekends and get discounted tickets at Tom Thumb. Losing the season passes could save me a ton... we usually drop hundreds in the shops and I can eat A LOT.
Last year we attended every weekend except 1.... I bought boots..the daughter bought an entire outfit.. I bought another kilt...a belt... a pouch... e new wooden mug.. the wife bought a "cape"... we got 3 CD's ... let's see... gave each daughter $40 at the gates each day for food and tips for shows... Yea... I'm sure dropping the season passes is a good idea.
I have never been to the preview. The one other time I had a FOF pass I was unable to make it. I don't know if I will this year. I am only one I know with a pass. My husband got one for me but he is only coming a few time and will buy he ticks at the gate. I don't do so well on my own. I am shy and timid and don't know if i should come.
Do we come in garb??
Is it good to get there early??
You really should come, BagPipeBabe. I know about shy. In person, I'm not nearly as gregarious as I tend to be on the forum here... The truth be known, I'm a wallflower unless I know a few people, and Nimue is even more shy. Lady Kett and Doña Catalina were most kind to us last year...I think they picked up on the deer-caught-in-the-headlights that I'm sure we looked like.
The management, I think, prefers no on the garb.
What I find really nice about the day, it that it's real low-key, not hoards of people, and you get to see a quieter side of the shire. It seems almost nuts for us to make the trip down from Maumelle (central Arkansas) for an afternoon at the "nearly" faire, but this is going to be our third.
You don't have to get there real early, but then it might be a good time to make some new acquaintances. There was somewhat of a bottleneck the first year of the photo badges, if you didn't send in your photo, but I think they're getting smoother on that. You get to see the last dress rehearsal of the pre-cannon act, some jousting, food and other festivities.
If I recognize you first, I'll introduce myself and my lovely bride. With the long gray beard, I may stand out more. And if it's sunny, the reflection off my bald spot may blind you!
If you want to garb up..... please do. Who cares what the management prefers? They didn't ask us if we preferred to have season passes or not.

If I can get a FoF pass for this season, I will almost definitely be there for the Preview Event. I haven't missed it the last three years. It's nice and quiet and for me, its a good chance to just wander and see some of my favorite folks who are on cast.
They'll most likely drop us an email on whether or not this is a in-garb or outta-garb kind of thing.
I don't have a preference to either and I'll probably come in civvies, just cause, it'll be easier.

Come on out, BPB. It is a unique experience and an enjoyable one. Message me if you are coming, and we'll make arrangements to meet up. I will probably be taking photos of the performing company's Costume Parade earlier in the day, but once the gates open I can either come out and find you or we can meet inside. Unless they decide not to let me do that this year for some reason, in which case, I'll just meet you outside. :)
The last couple of years they HAVE let folks come in garb, but I can tell you that it is easier for the first-year cast members if you don't wear garb. It is their first real exposure to dealing with patrons as a performing company member, and is really their "trial run", so to speak. They get to get their feet wet with an audience before the masses descend on Opening Day. And believe me, that first time you interact with someone as this character you've worked on for two months is a life-changing moment. There are many cases of actors having their character completely change from everything they've practiced and morphing into a whole new person without any warning. It can really freak you out! It happened to me with my first character, and while Lady Frances kept going and was having a blast, Lys was inside going "OMG!!! WHAT JUST HAPPENED??? AUGH!" *LOL*
Believe me, they're more nervous than you will be! *grin*
Getting there a little early is cool, because it will give you a chance to introduce yourself to some other FoF folks and get a little mingling in. Even if you're shy, I wouldn't worry, the FoF crowd has its cliques, but it also has some very outgoing people who will more than happily welcome you in. I wouldn't get there too early though, because it IS a work day for faire management, grounds, and performers. They've got a lot of last-minute things to do, so having crowds standing around for two or three hours outside the gates is a bit of a distraction.
After the rehearsal period is up, they usually serve some food and bring the SAPA folks back down out of costume for some mingling. It's a good time to get to know people outside of their characters. They're probably tired, as they've just spent the morning cramming a lot of rehearsal into a few hours, and they've been hyped up on adrenaline for the preview, AND if they're in Chess Match, they just practiced their fights over and over for Chess Match dress rehearsal, so they may seem a bit quiet and withdrawn, but it isn't that they are anti-social. Say hi, and chat for a bit.
Just really remember that they're people too, and as with most actors, it is probably easier for most of them to deal with patrons and playtrons as their characters than as themselves. A lot of performing company members are actually pretty shy folks when they're not performing. I know, it seems hard to believe, but it's true!
Anyway, I hope this was helpful, and I hope that you choose to attend. It really is an enjoyable afternoon, and completely worth it. Let me know if you're attending. I'm going to be meeting up with Merlin Sr. and his lovely Lady, and we would all welcome you joining our little group for our meanderings. :)
I told someone else that it wasn't worth fretting about, but now that I've had time to simmer, I think I'm done, and I admit that I was possibly wrong... and I'm reasonably sure I'm going to make some enemies...
Some of you act like the management of Scarborough changed the season pass/ticket structure just to screw with you...a personal affront. I can't imagine that any of us out here are so all-fired important that we'd be worth singling out for total devastation by changing the pricing and ticket structure. It's done...it's over with...if you can't handle the prices, don't come. But please, quit making it sound like you were singled out and are being picked on.
Look around. The prices at other faires have changed, too. No one has painted a bulls-eye on you...
Times have been tough, true. But the thumbscrews have been tightened for everyone, not just you. These businesses have seen their costs rise, and as much as we hate to admit it, these faires are businesses.
If you can't afford your entertainment budget, that's fine...give up some entertainment. But some of us have had enough of the belittling of those people who are just trying to make a living out of providing the rest of us with some fun. For some of us, this is important enough that we will make whatever sacrifices are necessary. For some of us, six months notice of a price change is plenty to set aside an extra $10 a month. For some of us, your pissing and moaning are getting old. Sorry if I'm too blunt for you.
wow, that was very blunt. Not sure if you WANTED to make enemies, but telling someone to stop "pissing and moaning" is a pretty good way to to do exactly that. Like it or not, peeps are still pissed about the change of passes, and I for one, believe that the anger is justified. If peoples opinions here are indeed "getting old" as you say, you don't have to be here OR read them, sorry if that's too blunt in return......this whole ordeal has done NOTHING but serve to produce bad feelings and bad blood among people who otherwise have always (at least in the 5 years I have been on this forum) gotten along.
Well, we finally got around to calling the office to RSVP for preview weekend. I hope we do see a few of you there.
I can say last year the PP and I were pretty intimidated going to FOF weekend. I knew a couple people from here there but they didn't know me from Adam and seemed a little warry of us. Granted we did make contact with a few people. This year we hope to meet even more people. Going to the first meet and greet made us feel very much at home at Scarby. It was more fun getting to meet everyone in and out of garb. It made it much more enjoyable.
You three better say hello to this old wizard and his babe at the preview... No need to feel intimidated...

You'd better say hi to me (being that I'm able to go) !! I miss ya'll! <3
Only a little more than a month away. I'm sure that I'll forget something that I need to do to get ready.
All I know is the week before opening I'm going to be sewing up a storm! :) I just can't wait to see everyone.
And yes EL, we miss you too, :)
Well my schedule has changed and therefore the lady and i will be able to make the first two Saturdays plus she'll be able to make at least two more Saturdays during the season. So by purchasing a FOF (w/2 free passes) and two day passes I was able to save $5. Purchased it on the evening of 2/28 before the price hike so I would be curious to know which number I was.
Don't know if I'll make the picnic. If I'm there I'm there I guess.
I bought my FoF pass at NTIF this weekend.
See ya'll at the Preview Event! ;D
Cool beaners!
I am coming and hopefully, the Lady of the House is coming also but might be limited by the two shorter Princesses (not sure if they can come or not to the preview being 7yoa).
What time does everyone plan to arrive for Preview? I'm thinking of stocking an ice chest ...
Saddly the PP got called into an audition and I won't get to go to preview. I was really looking forward to it, but thanks to a director who does what he wants (He is not my fav person right now) Since PP can't go , I can't either. :'(
Made our reservations today. Other than it starts at 1...I dunno about arrival time. Are we allowed to have a tailgate party beforehand? :P
Well, last year Nim and I got there about noon, I think, and just kind of hung around and chatted a few people up. I can't imagine anyone having a problem with a bunch of us visiting in the parking lot. Any staff out here that could speak up on the question?
I just noticed that the FOF FAQ hasn't been updated for 2011...
QuoteSunday, April 4, 2010 from 1pm to 6pm. We will begin taking photos at 1pm; dinner service will begin at 4pm. The preview is open to Friends of the Faire only and passes will be checked at the gate. Please call the office at 972-938-3247 no later than March 24, 2010 and make reservations so that we know how much food to order.
They are not helping me with my date dyslexia! I am
assuming it is on Sunday April 3rd? Same bat place, same bat time?
Yeah...unless they've made major changes, it's the Sunday before opening...If not, we'll all be there and we'll have our own party!
I'm sure I saw some correspondence ... so be there!
If you lot plan on that sort of thing, I will most likely stay with a friend in Crowley the night before and then get to the gate at around noon or so.
Can't believe its only two weeks away!
Noonish sounds like a winner to me.
Lady Stitch, I hate that you and PP aren't going to be there! You'll be there the following week, though, right?

Yes we will be there for opening weekend come hell or high water. ;D
LadyStitch, I'm sorry you won't be there. We're planning on noonish with some fast food lunch and some parking lot wine. They'll start taking pictures for passes about 1:00pm so wuite a few people will show up in garb. That's always worth watching for a bit before going in.
I did not think you could go to the preview in garb? ???
I recall one year that they actually said that they "preferred" you not be in garb, but I haven't seen anything since that year. Perhaps they were concerned that the new cast might get confused as to who was and wasn't cast...I don't know. We came last year, not mundane, but not extravagantly garbed either, however, we had sent in our photo for the pass.
There was a van full of folks from north Texas that showed up last year, thinking it was opening weekend and tried to talk their way in. While I kinda felt sorry for them having made the trip and all, the day really is the one major perk of being FoF, and getting the shire to yourselves.
We've had great fun the past couple of preview events, even though we didn't know anybody. With all the friends we've made here since last May, it will be making it all the more fun and special. We'll be arriving about noon and will have various beverages on board Homer, the Odyssey for anyone making contact.
Merlin thanks for the info! I think we will probably show in the mundane as we will still be trying to get out garb together. I hope we are not the only ones!
You shant be, Your Grace, at least based on my past experience. Last year, I just wore some wrap pants and a linen shirt, and Nim wore a dress she wears out in the `dane world. It wasn't anything that would have caught any looks from the muggles, but it was enough for us to get into the mood, as it were.
Lady Kett & Doña...what are you and your subordinates planning on wearing? You coming `dane as well? (I take my queues from them, Your Grace...they know the drill... :) )
Please make yourself known to me at the event. I can't quite make out your face in your avatar.
Merlin we look forward to seeing you on that grand day! ;D

Part of me is wishing I could get a ride down there but since we tend to live away from the other rennies (as far as we know) I won't get to go. It's big bummer but it happens.
We're going in 'danes as far as I know. Sidekick might wear a kilt but otherwise mundanish accessories. Likely to be wearing silly Ren Faire saying shirts from our travels. I suspect we'll aim for Noonish also and have a few beverages to share.
Merlin, are you staying in town through the week or making back to back round trips?
We'll head back Monday morning, and return Friday, hopefully with our friends in tow.

His Lordship and I will be in 'danes since we already have our passes.
Look for me when you get there. I promise there will only be one blue Smart Car in the parking lot.

90's? :o Jeesh. Looks like I'll be wearing a light sundress that day...
Can Texas make up its mind, already! 50's this week, high 80's to low 90's this weekend?
Do not like!
Yeah, at least that's what The Weather Channel is saying. They're down to 90 now.
I'm going to end up losing friends at this rate. When I went to Sherwood in MID-FEBRUARY, it was pushing 80 on Saturday, I think. I had to get rid of my robe after about 15 minutes in the faire because I was roasting!
(PS: I may have to wear a sundress, too!)
Merlin, I would suggest investing in a LINEN wizard's robe. You will find the breeze i much nicer, especially this far south of the Mason dixon line ;D
Yes...thanks, Lady Stitch. I'm going to look for one opening weekend. Does anyone remember seeing such a garment anywhere at Scarby? I've tried Googling, but have yet to find one.
I may have to have one commissioned. Lady Stitch, I'd like to visit with you in that regard for future reference, because I know you're a bit preoccupied these days!
Just got off the phone with Scarby and we are set. Me, my Lady, and the twin Princesses are coming to Preview.
Huzzah!!!! to all going to the FOF Preview ;D
Woot!
More people to see Sunday. ;D
OKAY! So, I'll be going to the store ... what kind of brew does everyone like for tailgate? Remember, now. Noon Sunday!
see you all on Sunday
Angus! You coming for tailgate? I didn't even get a chance to visit with you at Sherwood. We're gathering beginning at about noon, Preview Day.
I think I can get everyone in the car and there by noon. I better be able to since the next week they will be in the parking lot by 0800 or not at all with me. LOL
What's your tailgate pleasure? I'm working up a shopping list...
a good cider always works.
I'm assuming you mean a hard cider. You have a favourite? I'll try to find some for Sunday morn!
I usually buy woodchuck; doesnt matter much what flavor although granny smith is good.
Merlin, I have the JD for you (and others)....if you are requesting brews, I request Harp! :P
My Lord Jacob will not be able to make it but I just got a call from a good friend of the family and he said he would come and get Little Dorian and I... so The Lady Kat and Master Dorian will be going this Sunday!!!! We are going in as comfy cloths as we can find if it is going to be that hot. I don't need or want my little man getting to hot. I can't wait to see everyone :) I miss everyone and look forward to meeting new friends and for everyone to see how big Dorian has gotten over the year. we should be there a little before 1pm.
Till Sunday
The Lady Kat :)
There will definitely be Harp on board ...and Bass, two of my favourites. I'd love to have some Guinness, but the only way it's good is on tap.
Himself has expressed an interest in Harp for opening weekend. I'll grab some for preview weekend as well.
For those not imbibing, I will also have Coke and Fresca. Believe it or not, Fresca makes a nice mixer for Jack Daniels, along the lines of a whiskey sour, but not as sour. I should have enough Harp and Bass to get the party started anyway.
I apologize that the beer will be likely colder than it should be as the ice chest has only one setting...
In case anyone is counting, it is 2 days, 21 hours, 10 minutes, 41 seconds until Preview Tailgate
Can't wait to see everyone!
Just a reminder as it's been brought up in conversation, and I thought it was obvious but just to make it extra-obvious-
The Friends of Faire Event is NOT open to the public.
You must have a Friends of Faire Pass for the 2011 season to attend.
Too true, Elo... Don't need a repeat of last year...
The call was made and we will be at the lunch/dinner we can't wait to come see everyone and get out of the house

Thanks Elo for the reminder. It never occurred to me that it might be needed. I als thought the deadline to RSVP passed right after NTIF. But when in doubt, people can call the Scarby office. 972.938.3247
Will there be anyone in Waxahachie Saturday night? I don't think Nim and I have any specific dinner plans, though there's a Mexican place we like to visit. I'm guessing that most will just be day-tripping Sunday. A day trip is just too far for us... BUT if anyone is around, let us know...
Since last year was my first year with a FOF pass I didn't understand much, but what happened last year that made the reminder it is for FOF people only? Just curious.
I heard secondhand, we were late last year, that a van load of people showed up and thought it was open to all ticket holders.
Unpleasant scene all around.
I was there...It didn't get ugly, ugly, but the guy driving the van was adamantly trying to convince everyone that the website had the wrong information on it. If that actually was the case, and it was after 12 noon on opening day, the place would have been packed....as it was, there was maybe 40-50 folks in the parking lot waiting for the gates to open. As I recall, I believe it was Orvis that handled things without major problems.
I need to organize our schedule better this time! I was planning on the joust and the pub sing. I got squirrelled up and missed both. I would have HAD to have missed one of them, because they happen simultaneously, for some reason!
Looking forward to seeing everyone. I've got the Harp on ice as well as some Woodchuck for Angus, and some Smithwyck's (my store didn't have any Bass...). While it lasts, you're all welcome. I will have some plastic cups, which I shant guarantee the sterility of because they've been in the kitchen cabinet for some time, so feel free to bring your own vessel. I would ask that anyone sampling the wares from Homer's Bar to please leave the bottles there for proper disposal. I do not wish to make any enemies with the staff and/or management at Scarborough.

People were misinformed and/or didn't read carefully on the website.
The Friends of Faire Preview Event has always been for Friends of Faire pass holders
only. I don't know what made them think otherwise...
I was told by the Scarby front office that I could have my two Princesses come because they had Children Season Passes and we each had FoF passes.
We'll be heading that way in about 3 hours. We'll be meeting one of my childhood friends (and his wife) for dinner tonight, in fact it's the guy (and his wife) who introduced us to Scarby many years ago! See everyone tomorrow!
I cant wait to meet all of you!! What time is every one showing up??
We are aiming for Noonish. If I can work out the cooler logistics, we'll bring the blue Miata since it never gets out to Faire. Sidekick reminded me I need room for adult beverages and none of our coolers will fit in my miniscule trunk. If we can't make it work, it'll be our gray Escape. Without garb, I figured car descriptions might help locate each other, LOL!
We will be in my white Buick, see ya'll about noon tomorrow.
We'll be there noon as well. I have two ice chests, one with brew, and one with sodas. I'll check in the morning to see how cold things still are.
You won't miss us...we'll be in the silver land-yacht, lovingly known as Homer, the Odyssey. Drop by for a brew (Angus, I have some hard cider for you!)
We're safely in town, and chilling out at the hotel. See everyone soon!
I'm gonna leave out of S. Fort Worth at around 1130 tomorrow. Look for a white, Explorer Sport Trac- that's me. I can't wait to see everyone!
The friends that brought us to our first Scarborough all those years ago: We had dinner with them last night. They announced to us that they are now FoF and they are planning on joining us for festivities today! He and I go all the way back to 1958. A very old and dear friend...
4-1/2 hours to tailgate... Drive safely, everyone!
I can't wait to see everyone only a few more hours!
Lord Jacob left about an hour ago to go to work and I could have gone back to sleep for a few hours but I just can't wait I want it to be 11:30 now so I can be on my way.
To all who shared the day with us, we had a splendid day, and we thank you all! That thanks is not only to our many friends here, but to the cast, staff, and management of Scarborough. You made it worth the trip.
It was great to see you Merlin, I hope you and your lovely lady get home safely.
Definitely an awesome day, even if it was hot, I'm a tad crispy, and the dust was kind of intense. So great to see everyone and the newly renovated Crown Stage is so beautiful!
Yeah, you too, Elo. And me...I look like a lobster! But we really had a lot of fun. We'll head home in the morning, only to return Friday with the rest of the crew for OPENING WEEKEND!!!!!!
Great seeing everyone and if I missed you, hopefully I will see you next week or one of the many weeks coming forth. I am trying to get my place on the Royal Highlander Guard for Queen Margaret so I will have to wave at a few of you as we go scooting by. (You know the Queen has installed super-speedy-go-fast foot-wear).
I had a blast. It was great to see so many people again. If I missed you I'm sorry about that and hopefully I'll catch you Saturday. ;D
We had a great time yesterday meeting new friends! We look forward to seeing all of you over the upcoming weeks.

Preview was awesome, I can't wait until Saturday! The cast should feel very proud with the show they put on :)
Glad it was a great time for everyone. We had to miss it, helped our daughter move and now I can't hardly move. See you all Saturday.
Thanks to all of you that came out so we could practice on you!....I probably didn't see all of you because you were neckid....but next weekend all will be well again and I'll be able to recognize you!

They raised the old and built this new more grand one in its place.
I should have asked when he came and greeted me, but a large, young (in comparison) man, who was wearing a Scarborough Staff shirt walked over and shook my hand while we were in line to enter the gate Sunday. Friendly chap who knew I was an Arkie. Anyone have a clue who the bloody `ell he was? Unless I was standing in a hole, he was at least as tall as me, so he's 6 ft plus, blond, I think, broad shouldered... Anyone know? I just like to know who it is that I almost know, you know?
Sounds like the General Manager

Orvis!
My fault. I pointed you out to him. ;D
No, it wasn't Orvis... Orvis was sitting next to me at the Cat & Fiddle. This was a younger guy...but then, so is Methuselah.
It is possible that it was Coy, the General Manager. He occasionally checks the boards so might have seen you on here.
I thought Coy was the one in the floppy yellow hat and yellow garb? Did Miguel's lines during the play before the cannon shot?
That (doing Miguel's lines), if I'm not mistaken, was Dan, the cast director. I personally thought that was clever and funny.

Merlin is correct. That was Dan (a.k.a. William Kemp, England's Greatest Actor).
Speaking of the opening play, I hope that everyone realizes that the ENTIRE thing except for the Opening and Closing lines is improvisation, and that they really don't know the lines til they crack open the fortune cookies. Damned skilled improv, folks, that's what you're seeing there.
I got a bunch of good laughs out of the play Sunday! A few of the folks were obviously still a little nervous, but it was good.

Oh, ok. Still trying to learn name slol.
WOW! I thought it was all scripted - that makes an amazing play even more amazing! Are they going to do some sort of play again Saturday, or was that just a special thing?

They do the gate show every Opening gate, and its a different fortune cookie each week, as I know, so yes, it will be a "play" again. Moreso, it's them doing an awesome improv show. There is a reason we won best cast this year! :-D
Yes, the improvisational play occurs every morning at opening gate starting about 9:40ish. Presenting it as a play to their majesties, allows us to be a little loose with our characters, marrying/killing them off, stealing flowers from gardens, poisoning the ale, etc. We get to have a lot more fun that way and give a much more entertaining show. The cast has done amazing work this year in classes. In the improv class, we gave them a lot of chance to practice improv scenes (which basically means performing scenes over and over again learning what will stall a scenes out as well as what will help a scene be more interesting. It is a shame there is no audience for some of the great scenes that occur during the workshop practice. Luckily, I have been blessed to see a lot of these and can honestly tell you that everyone is in for a real treat this year. The cast has put in amazing work and is truly a force of nature this year.
P.S. It is possible that the same lines may occur sometimes. As they are whatever is found in the fortune cookie and are not manipulated by the show director, we cannot guarantee unique never-been-heard-before lines although we do try to get the cookies--or perhaps I should say "biscuits"--from a mix of vendors.

Hey, fellow FoF people... If any of you have unspoken-for comps, Pan & Tink could use them Saturday morning. I speak in their behalf because Pan will be riding in the MS 150 Bike Marathon next weekend, a noble cause. If our tickets weren't already spoken for, I wouldn't even ask.
Our extras were donated to family friends of ours with 6 adopted kids, 4 of which are deaf. They are coming next Saturday since they will have translators at the stages. It is the ONLY weekend that there will be translators, so we wanted to give them every chance to enjoy the faire.
Sorry :(
Both of mine and the other two I were given are already spoken for... :(
I've already given our away. I think Lonnie still sells discount tickets if the Groupon thing has expired.
Thanks.. it was a late request, but I wanted to try...
