We actually made our planned purchases at TRF closing weekend;
2 pairs of shoes, a bone hilt rapier and dagger.
I would still like to find some solid black gauntlets for his Lordship, maybe this year.
Anyone have plans for purchases this year?
Mead and beer, definitely! Nothing really planned, per se, but I always support the vendors.
A dead finger on a stick. Someone took mine at Halloween.

I STILL don't have a mug! also if I can swing it theres several moresca pieces im dying for...namely the khadija set, and a hotcotte
I know the PP is just drooling over new boots, but we shall see. Everything for me has to be custom made for my character. Saddly I cant' buy them at faire.

Okay, now I read your response and first thing that came to my mind was why would I be looking at guys.
Really LOL now.

Oh, I dunno, Ferret. When my Nimue and I were first dating, she used to wear pseudo-kilts... she would definitely knock your eyes out. Admittedly, it was 40+ years ago, but...oh, my! (She's still a babe to me!)
Well, if I'm able to attend this yr, I'm hoping to buy a feather fan & a tin or pewter mug. :)

That was my purchase last year and i can highly recommend these boots.
Son of Sandlar in both 60. A lot cheaper than the others.... my concern was that they wouldn't be as comfortable but after speaking to more than 1 person who has both...these ranked higher in being comfortable. I marched in 6 or 7 parades and on other days just walked the fair from 10am- closing and they felt great. Not a blister....nothing.
This year.... I may get a utility type kilt to wear at work sometimes.
Other than that.... beers and scotch eggs and meat pies and shepherds pie and wine and calzones and shrimp bowls and fish-n-chips and red beans with rice and steak on a stick and stir fry..... then on the next day I want to get.....

I completely understand. I have seen some beautiful Ladies in kilt type attire.
The funny part was that wasn't my first reaction. I'm still laughing when I think of my error.

I want to expand my collection of dragon jewelry and accessories. I have 4 dragon rings, a dragon necklace, a dragon hair spiral (which I wear in my beard...not enough hair to hold one), three large dragon prints from LA Williams (and a dozen+ small ones), a Ballena Bay dragon goblet... I'm a wizard...I like dragons!
more hats!
I have no specific target this year, but I suspect the Baroness may have other ideas. :o
BEER!!
I'm already making a list and saving up for it. I want a black leather pouch, another patchwork skirt from the Silver Squirrel in autumn colors, and a riding hat from the Blonde Swan.
Oh, i would die for a hat from the blonde swan! I just would like to try one on first before I buy, sooo i guess I'd need to make a trip to one of the faires they work at.
But this past season, minutes after I spent my last 40$, I found some wings from Fairy Winks at TRF for the same price! I have vowed to rush to them after the gates open and buy a pair to wear around next year. I really hope to get a skirt from DitD at the Oklahoma Medieval faire in a few months as well. Other than that, a nice feather hat pin would be a plus too.
I always get a piece from the chainmaille vendor at Scarby. I'm also looking at buying a very simple Rhagdoll for a friend who is pregnant. Other than that:
-new bodice
-something from Grichels (perhaps a purse)
-Fiery Faire (didn't get to reload at TRF so we're running low)
-Garlic Festival stuff
Looking to upgrade the leather pouch I wear on me belt this year.
I'll be looking for Christmas gifts for friends and family in the coming year. Everybody loved the marshmallow siege machines and candles from Royal Candle Maker.
As always, I'll be buying beer. ;D
A turkey leg and kettle corn for sure.
Besides that probably nothing, finances are crazy tight this year.
I need a hat. It has to have a brim to keep the sun out of my eyes, and needs to keep the rain off my head. It needs to keep me cool when it's warm and warm when it's cool. In short, I need a magic hat.
I wonder if Queen Bonnie can conjure one for me?
The band circa Paleo (http://www.circapaleo.com/) has been working on a new 2-CD album, which I believe will be available in February & March during their performances at Sherwood Forest Faire (http://www.sherwoodforestfaire.com/). I'm planning to buy a couple of those albums. :D
Take Care,
David Baldock
I'm not sure what big ticket item is on hand for this year, but last year at TRF I bought a Buffalo hide. I would like to get a new pair of Brogans. Now if I can fined someone at farie that sales them!

If we're thinking of the same thing you can get brogans at Civil War sutlers.

I would have to agree with Merlin on that point. I have a pair of knee high boots from Son of Sandlar that I bought at MiRF way back in 2002. At the time I was wearing a pair of 9 button Bald Mountain Moccasins that I had worn for maybe 3 years. I had to have the Bald Mountains repaired as the toes were starting to flap (the sole and the upper were separating). I bought the Sandlars at faire after I dropped off the Bald Mountains and wore them the whole day without any problems. As a matter of fact, they felt (and still do feel) better on my feet than the Bald Mountains did, and the Bald Mountains were custom made to my feet. Must be the steel shanks in the sole.
As far as new garb goes, I don't know at this point. I would like a new doublet probably from Pendragon as I like their style and I also would like to acquire a Starfire for use at the castle (we use 32" Starfires for our theatrical work).
