Had some killer grub at that resturant a couple of times during the victorian Christmas on the square... It burned down a few days ago... Wish I had gone more times now :-[
I do hope they have the insurance coverage to rebuild. I saw Coy's post about when they had live music there.
OH!!! NO!!!! This was our traditional breakfast spot!!! This is terrible!!!! They had all kinds of old pictures and memorabilia on the walls. I am absolutely DEVASTATED! I'm using words at my desk that I cannot post here!

Very fond memories of breakfast there a few years back when we visited Scarborough. What a tragic loss for the town.

Me too, DocAmor. Before it closed, we liked to stay at the Rogers Hotel there on the corner, and we'd saunter on down to the Chisolm for a hearty breakfast before heading to the shire. We were in garb one morning, me in my flowing wizardly robes, and some 4-year-old boy mistook me for God. I know it couldn't have been my language...
We had stayed at the Rogers also. Interesting place, The Rogers. Sadly, it could have been so much more of a destination. It did remind us though of what a grand hotel may have been like decades ago, just wish more had been done to bring it up to date yet keep the quaintness of it.
Hopefully will make it down to Scarborough again in the next few years. We thoroughly enjoyed the Peasant and Court Dances and have learned many of them for use at the faires we perform at (Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, Virginia). Our oldest son was there with Noble Cause Productions in the Joust for a couple of years (Sir Roderick).

The Rogers closed unexpectedly a few years back. We had reservations there, and shortly before our trip down, I tried to call to confirm the reservations. The first time I called, I got a voice-mail box. When the message wasn't returned, I tried calling and didn't get a disconnected message or anything, like the call got switched to an open line.
When we arrived, the place had a sign on the door, "Closed Until Further Notice." We couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone what had happened. I guess the owners went belly-up.
As of last year, parts of the building had reopened for other uses, but I guess the Rogers Hotel will not be rising again.
The Rogers, for all of its faults (and there were a few), was in way better shape, in my opinion, than the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs National Park that is touted to be such a showplace! Sure the façade is impressive, but inside the rooms? What a dump!
Little by little, the square seems to be disappearing. The old drug store had closed last time down, too.
That is sad to hear about the Chisholm! Lord A and I ate there many times. I loved their shrimp!
