Hello all!
My husband is raising money for this year's MS-150 and asked me if I would relay a message to all of the wonderful rennies on here.
Thanks!
Tink
I am participating in the 2011 BP MS-150, a two day bike ride from Houston to Austin to raise awareness and funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year I wanted to do something new and unique to bring in additional support for the cause. . . so I put my thinking cap on. After thinking real hard to come up with an unusual and creative solution, a light bulb went off and I have decided to reach out to my Renny Brethren for support. If members of this forum are able to find it in their hearts to support the fight against MS and make donations on my behalf that total 200 dollars or more, I WILL RIDE THE ENTIRE TWO DAY 150 MILE RIDE IN FAIRY WINGS ! So if you want to see the photo journey of a large man sporting fairy wings travel 150 miles by bicycle, use the link below to access my donations page and please be sure to put a comment in the "personal note" section stating "Fairy Wings" so that I know that your donation is to be included in the fair wings total.

Thank you for your support
-Joshua Kuhlman (AKA Pan)
You're on! Pictures will be required.
My husband wanted me to let everyone know that y'all are awesome, and that y'all have already helped him raise $70! He also assured me that there will be PLENTY of pictures! (and I'll help make sure of that, myself!) I have a suspicion that he secretly really wants to bike in wings, so I appreciate you all helping to make it happen!
Tink
Yay! What's the deadline? Helpful for the procrastinating bunch and for reminder purposes LOL. :)
Make sure to keep us posted on progress toward the goal...
The deadline for donations is mid May MARCH (sorry about that), and he will be sure and keep you all updated (through me, I assume LOL)
HI, everyone !
Yep, the donations will be due mid March so that I can have time to buy or make some wings before the ride in April ! I can't thank you enough for the support !
I will keep updates coming and if the total is reached, I will let you all pick the color and style of the wings. ... it just wouldn't be any fun if I am allowed to pick them out for myself.
Thanks again
-Joshua Kuhlman a.k.a. PAN ! ;D
Pan and Tink, I thank you for doing this event. People need to be made aware and educated about this life altering condition. I would never wish it on anyone.
So from me, my sister, and all of the others living with Multiple Sclerosis.... THANK YOU!

I am just glad I am able to do something to help ! For information about the National MS Society, how proceeds help or other ways you can do something to help families with MS, visit www.MakeYourMarkMS.org.
As of this posting , the fairy wing fundraising challenge has brought in 95.00 dollars in donations ! That is almost half way to the goal in less than 24 hours !
Keep it up guys !
-Pan
I made my donation today but forgot to include "fairy wings" in the note.... silly me.
That will be 2 demerits, or a batch of chocolate chip cookies...
Thats OK Celtic Lady, I realized you were from the forums and your donation was credited in the current 95.00 towards the Fairy Wings !
Pan
cookies? :D
Yes, Tink...when I'm not wizarding, I'm cookie monstering...
mmmmmmm cookies! *nom*
If my hubby is willing to wear wings, I wonder if a higher donation amount would get him into a tu-tu... (that would be awesome)
uuuhhhhh.... How much do you want? Does hubby know you are out to publicly humiliate him? He IS trying to do a good thing here... ;)

Sign me up ;)
It takes a special sort of person to not only do-good, but to be silly in the doing of it. <3 silly :)
Merlin- perhaps I should check with him LOL I think he'd be willing to wear one (or maybe I'm just being hopeful LOL)
Lady Kett - he is great at doing both goofy and good :)
ewww a tutu may be taking it a little tooooo far for me... but as this is to help the fight against MS, I am not saying no.
Now, we are still only half way to the FIRST goal of 200 to get me in the fairy wings, so you all may be getting a tad ahead of yourselves. BUT if you all REALLY want to see me ride in a tutu as well, its not going to be easy. . . your going to need to rally support and funds totaling 700 dollars. That's an additional 500 to get me in the tutu. And I suspect that to hit that kind of number, you all will need to spread the word a bit outside of this forum.
To give you a mental image here of what this will look like, Cycling clothes are already skin tight and I am not skinny. Now add a tutu and fairy wings to the outfit. . . it's not a pretty picture.
just remember to make sure anyone who donates for this challenge puts "fairy wings" in the personal notes.
-Pan
LOL I just got a hilarious mental image...
Hey, does anyone know why Pan's coming up as a guest now instead of a newbie?

Maybe the administrators got a mental image of him in a tutu and wings, too... It is rather frightening! ;D
I tease you both, but this is a fantastic thing he's doing. My best friend's mum has been living with MS pretty much since I've know them, and I met them in 1958. She's still hanging in there, but life's been a struggle for her at times.

Hrm, did he log in from somewhere other than normal where the login is "remembered", and ended up as a guest with his name?
But regardless, lets get to the first goal, and then tackle the next! I'd be willing to up the ante! :)
I have no idea what he did, though I was wondering that myself. Hopefully he'll get it figured out.
Once we get him winged, then reach the tu-tu phase, maybe we can talk him into... um... I dunno', but something.... LOL I'm having way too much fun with this.
Let me take a serious moment, though, to thank everyone who is being so supportive of such a great cause!
Not sure what happened, I had to recreate my account... BUT I'M BACK ! and the total remains at 95.00 dollars in donations for the fairy wings ! I will keep the updates coming.
How goes the donation campaign? I really hope more of our fellow ren friends get involved with the donations. It would be great to see the pics of you in your fairy wings ;). More importantly it would be awesome knowing that they are helping to find a CURE for this LIFE ALTERING conditon known as MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.
Realizing that not everyone is "flush" these days, but those that have a little extra, even if it's only $5, please make a donation.
I'll tell you what. I want to see Pan in wings (I'd love to see the tutu, too ;) ) For the contributors of the next $50 toward the wings, I will match. (Pan & Tink, you'll need to let me know). And if we get that close, I'll even throw in the last $5. The ball is in your court.
Huzzah, Merlin.
I understand with not having alot of extra cash about but if there is extra lying about this is a great cause to contribute to. In my past experiences I've found that even if it's pocket change that was donated something good always came from it.
WOW Merlin ! Wow... :o I am speechless here. You guys are awesome.
I know I've said it before, but you guys are truly truly wonderful people!
No..please, don't go there, it ain't all that. It's for my best friend's mom, that's all. ...and people like her.
We are still sitting at 95.00 total in donations for the Fairy Wings. C'mon guys ! Lets get the support moving again. Merlin has offered to match the next 50 dollars donated towards the goal !
Okay, Clarence... you've got your wings...a few twisted arms, some threats...
220 dollars has been raised. Thank you Merlin ! THE WINGS ARE A GO ! I REPEAT THE FAIRY WINGS ARE A GO! We need suggestion for the style and color of the wings. You guys get to decide and I will either have Tink make the set or I'll pick some up at Sherwood.
I hope you were not too forceful in your threats Merlin !!!!
Thanks again to everyone for the support.
...they'll heal...someday....
*sprinkles Merlin's victims, er, volunteers with healing pixie dust*
I think they should be BIG, sparkly, and since this is a Multiple Sclerosis charity ride... Orange (the color for MS awareness) ;) like this: http://www.scavengeinc.com/p-1586-orange-fire-fairy-glitter-wings.aspx .... only bigger.
Huzzah for fairy wings! And supporting a worthy cause!

ooohh I like those!
Well ladies and gentlemen... Thanks to a 200 dollar donation , the total is up to 420 dollars in the fairy wings and now tutu challenge.
Because of the overwhelming support these past few days, I can think of no better way to say thank you than to go ahead and wear the tutu. I couldn't even remember how high of a goal I set for the tutu but I feel you all have earned it.
If my two cents matters in your wings and tutu color choice, I REALLY like the idea of orange.
I think orange would be tootoo perfect... Pictures...I want pictures!
When does this event take place? Looking forward to seeing the pics when they are available.
The ride is mid April but I will start wearing the wings for my training rides as soon as we have them ready. I promise to deliver as many pictures as possible.... and some first person video of the ride for you all to enjoy.
-Pan
Any updates on the your garb or donations?
I saw Pan Saturday at Sherwood, and he said his fund is up to $750! HUZZAH! Donations from the rennie community were enough, as I understand it, for him to also sport a tutu!
Im sure he will be on soon to update, but my husband will indeed be wearing a tutu to match his wings. He likes the idea of wearing orange. Still working on obtaining his outfit, but he or I will definitely post pictures as soon as he gets them! :)
That's so awesome to hear. HUZZAH :D
Well it's about mid-April and this topic has been very quiet. I was wondering if there are any updates or any kind of news about this ride. When does it take place... if it hasn't already?
Sorry for my absence from the boards. I have raised 775 total and the ride is this weekend ! Wings and Tutu WILL be worn with plenty of pictures !
Best of everything for your journey, Pan. I don't think I'm supposed to tell you to "break a leg," so I'll leave that for something else. I wanted to get you together with Rosie's son Sunday.... I saw you early, then didn't see you later when they arrived, but he wishes you luck as well.
Yay for Pan! Best of luck and all good things!
Thanks for the encouragement !
Merlin , we tried to find you again later in the day and were unsuccessful. I had to leave mid afternoon to get back to Houston and prepare for work the next day.... we will need to exchange numbers next time. I was looking forward to meeting him.
I have raised a total of 1,000 dollars ! ! !
Thanks again everyone ! Pics will be up Sunday evening as soon as I can get internet access after the ride.
-Pan
Huzzah, Pan. Great to hear you got more donations.
Bravo, Pan! You have our best wishes to carry with you on your ride tomorrow and Sunday!
Huzzah Pan! Have a great, safe ride!
I made it through the ride and arrived home safely! I had a blast and the fairy wings and tutu were a hit. Everyone seemed to have a comment to make about them and I really mean everyone.... I was a celebrity for the weekend with people stalking me for photos and I seemed to become the "where's waldo" of the event.
Here is the first round of pics but more pictures and a few videos should trickle in throughout the week and I'll be sure to get the links posted here.

Now I am off to rest and recover.
-Pan
HUZZAH, m'LAD! Congratulations! Next we meet, if you're a drinking man, I'll buy you an ale or two! If not, I'll be happy to drink them for you!
Well done, Pan.
Huzzah Pan! Congrats on the ride. Rest up for next year! :)
Congrats Pan! I did *not* expect to see you in the sea of people, but the wings made you "unique"! I saw 3 other tutus, but none as nice as yours!
Thanks You to everyone ! I added two new pictures of me riding the bike

Aiacha - I was soooo worn out from the ride that I had forgotten we ran into each other ! It was very nice to meet you and very awesome that you found me.
Merlin - You can drink 'em for me !
I'm going to put one of those last two on my door at work!
That's awesome Merlin !
The Professional photo company from the ride has posted a whole mess of pictures of me here http://www.brightroom.com/view_user_event.asp?EVENTID=79051&PWD=BPMS150-HoustontoAustin&BIB=10395
I have ordered the high res digital copies and I will forward any of them to anyone that is interested. The site says I should have them within two days.
Send me copies of your favourites, and I will make you famous in central Arkansas! I'll PM my email...
Those are great photos Pan. And to top it all off, you look like you were enjoying yourself the whole time, too!
Very nice pics, Pan :). Thanks for sharing them.

Lol, don't let the pictures fool you ! While I did enjoy the weekend of riding, I was not all smiles the whole time. I did my fair share of groaning and grunting during difficult portions of the ride and if you look closely at a few of those shots, i may in fact be going "GRRRRR" instead of smiling.
-PAN
Wow, they got the pictures ready quickly :)
Yep, this was the fastest turn around I have ever seen for Brightroom Photography. This is my favorite pic from the ride. Its as I was crossing the finish line in Austin.
