Have been considering going to this but havent heard anyone talk about it or give opinions about it.  It would be nice to know a little about what to expect.

Hi angus:

I wasn't at Middlefaire last year since it was the same weekend as TRF opening.  I went the first year it was small then just one building and several tents.  They let the Scots lead their parade and they had highland game event open to any scot that wanted to try it.  I enjoyed it and was sorry they decide to do it the same time as TRF last year.   This Year its the two weekends before TRF so I'm planning on going down and giving it a try if its about a hour or so from the Dallas area.

Thanks for the reply Sir Richard.  I look forward to seeing you there.  The wife is doing nicely and we should be able to make the trip.  Yeah, I have a sister that lives in the Hillsboro area. Again, thanks.

Angus-
If you like a smaller, more intimate (stop that! that's not what I mean!) faire, you would probably like MiddleFaire.  Tends to be pretty laid back.  Reminds me a bit of Scarborough in it's first couple of years, though smaller.  Though a "Renaissance" faire, and all personas of different eras are welcome, the primary emphasis is on a pirate theme, around 1650.  Having said that, no one is anal enough to be the character police here, and the emphasis is on enjoying yourself.  Price is cheaper than most faires.  This is the third year, and though it still hasn't come close to all the plans the owner has for it, there's been a striking difference from the first 2-day run in '06.  If you are used to Scarby, you'll see some acts you may recognize, and some you won't.  One change from the earlier post c. the schedule- the MiddleFaire dates are indeed the last weekend of Sept. and the first weekend of Oct., so there shouldn't be a conflict with TRF.  As of a couple of weeks ago, though, the owner/manager Paul Tuma stated he'd decided to cancel the ChristmasFest in December.  Some of us were there last year and were looking forward to it again, but he says most of the vendors last December didn't do much, and he wants to build up more of a reputation for the faire in general, before trying to add too much at a time.
Looking forward to seeing you-
genasguy

The Ladies of the Salty Kiss will be performing there both weekends; just got our contract today.

This will be our first time of performing at this festival and we will be camping.  Any tips on the weather in the late Sept/early October frame for this part of Texas?  What about local eateries and such?

Thanks a bunch,
Emerald

It still is often pretty hot in late September, but it gets chilly from time to time too. Hillsborough has lots of fast food and stuff because it is situated on the interstate, but I don't know how close that is to the faire.

We stayed at the Hampton on I35 and it took us all of 10 minutes to drive to the Faire last year.My husband's family lives in Hillsboro and they all go to the Roadhouse. We usually eat there with them when we visit. There's an outlet mall, about 6 hotels of varying ages and all the fast food you could want.

It can get rather warm during the day, but it cools down overnight.

If you're willing to get away from the interstate, there are some worthwhile places in H'sboro.  There's an absolutely lovely family owned Italian place right on the courthouse square, which actually makes it much closer to the faire site than most places.  There's a Chinese buffet on the far side of the interstate which is basically decent- several of the R'folk from the faire have gone there in groups on occasion, after the gates close at the faire.  As a general rule, you have to get further away from the faire proper for more of the chain restaurants, but this being a small town, it's never really too far.

I just found out about this faire from Ryk, and I can't wait to go!  I understand the Brobdingnagian Bards will be there...is that confirmed for this year yet?  I have once again taken up playing the autoharp, and I adore their music, and hope to get to meet them.  I'm also looking forward to seeing the Ladies of the Salty Kiss again, as well as Dona Catalina and Blackbead!  This news shook me out of my post-Scarby doldrums and has given me something to get excited about again!  I don't know if Sir Marcas and I will be able to make it to TRF this year, so having another faire close by will help me get my Ren fix!

My liege and I will most likely be attending at least one day of faire at Middlefaire...as it is close to home. We haven't been to Middlefaire yet, but are hoping to see it grow, as it and Scarby are a lot closer to home (and therefore easier on the pocketbook!!) than TRF and others further south or further east!!

That's not to say that we won't be attempting a weekend of TRF every year, but the closer faires are definately easier to attend more often!!

Garnet will be able to make the drive up from Houston to perform with us - an added bonus in my books!  We shall have to all go out to supper together to sit and visit!

Just one update regarding the Christmas Fest.  At least for this year, it has been canceled, to be replaced with a one-evening Christmas feast.  The Christmas weekend wasn't well publicized or attended last year, with the exception of the feast.  For this year at least, there will be just the dinner, as that was what most people commented on then.
Middlefaire itself will also have an after-hours feast on closing night.

Alas, the family and I won't be making out Middlefaire this year.  We were there on both the inaugral year as well as it's second year, but I'm putting my wife through college right now and, as much as it pains us, ye olde budget, just can't handle the faire.  The sacrifice will be totally worth it but, we'll be pretty much MIA (from both Scarby and Middlefaire) for the next two years. :( :'(
But, absence doth make the heart grow fonder and I'm sure we'll return with a whole new appreciation for both Scarby and MF.  Besides, it'll be fascinating to see how much has changed/evolved at both faires over that period. :)

Y'all have fun and we'll see you on the other side.

I'll still hang out here though and live vicariously through you guys. ;D

Ahoy, mates!

Here be something new, a song from Blackbead and the bard of the Adventure, Kenny Sanders.  With any luck, fair winds, and a bit of effort, the song will be sung to an audience for the first time at Middlefaire, September 27.  If ye have a mind, come join us for a sing-a-long!  If ye be a pirate, then this may be your meat!

God Take The King!

Ye ask me why I sail the seas beneath a flag stained black,
Why I risk both life and limb and take the pirate track?
The answer is an easy one, a song I love to sing,
After years of his bloody taxes, I've come to hate the king!

I bear the marks upon me back of scratches from his cat:
Too many times I've come up short when 'is Majesty passed the hat.
Between his taxes and me debts I were stretched as thin as a blade
But it doesn't change me hate one bit that this bed is one I made.

O-o-o, God Take the King!
O-o-o, God Take the King!
My countrymen, they may choose another song to sing,
But as for me, and forever more, I say, GOD TAKE THE KING!

That's just the first stanza and the chorus.  Come out and sing with us at Middlefaire!

Attended Sat weather was a little on the warm side but had fun.  Lots of great music this year Abby Green is really good and the Stonhenj Players were in fine voice.  Bedlam Bards were also in fine form.  Some nice vendors.  Saw several friends from Scraby (Hi Lady B, Andrew),  Good food, big freash burgers, nice bake potatoes not dried out, drinks were a little hard to find but other than that everything was good.

Much better opening before TRF this year.  depending on things might try a return next weekend.

saturday was really nice there. weather was fantastic, booze was for tips, and the food was good. there were around 30 vendors or so, a few stage areas, and a nice archery range. the bakery that set up shop there had some really good pumpkin bread.

rat pucking was highly amusing...I havent seen it done lately because i moved to houston and dont frequent scarby as often...dont think ive ever seen it at trf.

How was the restroom situation?  Last year they built the stalls but had the half door, and no building around the stalls.  Is it still just some stalls in the middle of a field?

Just curious.

Generally a good trip although the time displacement techs dropped me 50 yards off target (ended up in the participant parking lot).

Was there on Saturday, met those I had only known on the net such as Theresa and family, Lysa, and Squinty. Met lots of other interesting folk including some to add to the email exchange. T'was hot ...... but not as hot as Scarborough was Memorial Day weekend. Occasionally, we were blessed with decent breezes. Took lots of pics, 14-16 rolls of 35 mm, going to drop off the first 4 at HEB later today.

Got to employ my character some to include all those people who don't look gypsies but they must be. I mean, only gypsies would know to call a camera by its name. That still needs more work, the character, though; people would ask questions that was outside what I prepared, so I had to think quickly for an answer. Doing a little bit better than Dr. Who, though. I mean, that standard answer of "I'm from the north."

Of course, it's not TRF or Scarborough, a lot smaller .......... but you know, that was rather nice in its own way. For one thing, it seemed we only had one faery (not that I have anything against faeires, mind you!). I was informed, though, that a lot of people who might have been there weren't because there was a Rennie wedding going on elsewhere.

Facilities wise, they were decent with impressible width, decent sized doors (more than 1/2), a handicapped ramp, flushing, and a sink with running water for wash up.

Bring cash; while the vendors might take the Lady or the Master or perhaps even New World Express, I didn't see anything that resembled an ATM machine ...... though things are always possible. Also, didn't see a film and like Kiosk ...... though I didn't need that due to sufficient on board supplies.

Did get a shirt and set of pants at renshirts. Plan on being more in but not completely in garb at TRF ....... if I can figure out how to wear the pants.

It's been a wonderful weekend!

Shipmates!

You all have my dear thanks for coming out again and attending what is a rapidly growing and constantly improving faire.  I have to say that I was so busy that I barely got out of me booth except to attend to other duties!  I cannot tell you how many people came through the front gate but we had a constant flow of patrons, playtrons, and participants throughout the first two days.  The economy has hit us all pretty severely but, as a vendor, this faire is well worth me time and I hope to grow with it as the years go by.

The Brotherhood of the Gulf Players had their inaugural run this weekend doing three shows.  We sang sea shanties, told sea stories, and did some sea schtick.  Several of the poems from Raising Black Flags were very well received, including "The Captain's Coat," "Springs and Neaps," "One day in the life," and "A Tale from Devil's Tavern."  And we introduced the new song, "God Take the King!" to several rousing cheers from the crowd.  I will long remember during one of the parades when a lovely young lady joined us and began singing "Ye ask me why I sail the seas beneath a flag stained black . . ."

And there were several "extracurricular activities" that took up me time - we played "PYRAT" at every show of the BOTGPG, did a couple of book signings, and, on Sunday, successfully ran the "Period/Non-Period" Trivia Quiz.  The prizes were a $25 Gift Certificate at Abzu Designs (makers of BEAUTIFUL jewelry!), a handmade belaying pin from Once Upon a Tree (something EVERY pirate needs!), a bar of handmade soap from The Purple Gypsy (you got your choice from several scents and colors!) and a complete set of the Ducks of the Carribean (Cabeza de Pato, La Mallard, Sir Francis Drake, and CAPTAIN Quack Sparrow!) from Blackbead's Treasure Chest!

All in all, I heard that a grand time was had by all!  Middlefaire 2008 will come to a close next weekend so come out and see the new grounds and enjoy a more intimate Renaissance setting.  See you in the Middle!

I'm so glad to hear this faire is really moving along.  As I've said before (and with all due respect to TRF in all it's greatness), it's nice to now have a fall faire/festival closer to where I live.

Glad to hear everybody's having a good time at Middlefaire.

I'm soooooooooooo jealous.  2010 won't come soon enough! :'(

And keep those photos comin'!  Some of us are living vicariously through you.  ;D

But I am really really curious about the privies too.

We had a great time at Middlefaire Saturday. The place is definitely growing especially on the west end of the faire. Quite a few new structures this year. I have pictures posted here.

OK, I did get all the public photos uploaded last night.  Here's the link:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/al-nimer/sets/72157607780742831/

A little funny explanation about the "male bellydancer" in pink (PICT9025-PICT9035).  On Sunday, he and a few others were rat pucking around the grounds.  (OK, mainly just through the lanes.  See PICT9015.)  Apparently when they were passing the tents where Sultan's Dream had their bellydancer outfits for sale, he launched his rat through one of their mirrors.  So for his "punishment," the ladies dressed him up and made him perform with them, pretty much for an entire half-hour show.  Very amusing  ;D

You should see it on YouTube! It is brilliant, and he wins all sorts of 'Man Points' for willingly being dressed up and preforming with the ladies. He even paid for the mirror from what I was told.
He owns/runs the wood shop on the corner out at MiddleFaire, he makes all the wooden things in there.
A really good guy.

Ahoy to one and all!

Take a look at http://www.middlefest.com/fantasyfestival.htm and you'll see that there will be a "Fantasy Faire" on the grounds of Middlefaire in Hillsboro, Texas on JUNE 6-7, 2009!  Come by Captain Hook's fort and let ol' Smee make ye feel all nice and comfy, just like it be your own home, like!  And if that evil Pan and his Lost Boys show . . . well, I might be discussed into giving them special discounts on me merchandise!  (What better way to entice them little fools into a trap, eh, Cap'n?)

Apparently they are expanding to 3 weekends this year. I hear the Musketeers are trying
to organize an outing for opening weekend.
Believe it or not, it's a little too early for me to make plans out that far.
I need time to recover, repair and clean up after Scarborough. But as of now, we plan on attending
at least one weekend of the three.
We'll probably have to bring a few sheep along to have something to drink.  ;)

We had a great time Saturday. There was a nice breeze out of the North and I will agree with Painted Lady there was about a 20 to 1 ratio of garb to mundanes. Had a nice chat with Al-Nimer before he headed over to the parade and I shot a few photos. As soon as I get time I'll post them to my Picasa photo stream. If you get a chance you have to check out the guy selling Mango hot sauce, interesting flavor for hot sauce. :o  Hope to see some of you all next Saturday.

Opening day of Middlefaire was fantastic!  The weather was great, there were lots of people (I even had an audience at my show!), the food was good, the FREE beer was great!, there more belly dancers than I have ever seen at one time in one place (approximately one belly dancer for every patron!), I met some wonderful people and had a marvelous time!

Sunday was slow but I think I needed it to rest up from the hectic Saturday.

This weekend is the Medieval-themed weekend and it brings professional jousting in the big field next to the village, royals from all over the Continent, and more of the incredible entertainment that was there the opening weekend!

And don't forget about the last weekend - October 3-4 - that's the PIRATE INVASION!!  The Ladies of the Salty Kiss will be in attendance and if you want to get a copy of Raising Black Flags with the signatures of FOUR of the poets within its pages then you need to be there for the last weekend of Middlefaire, 2009!

See you in the Middle!

Sounds like a great time was had by all.  ;D  Alas, we won't be able to make it out Middlefaire until next year.  Gotta get my wife through her last year of college.

I have been curious, what is the entertainment line up like this year (besides great, I'm sure) at MF.  Couldn't find any hint of an entertainment schedule on the website.  Is it there and I just somehow missed it?

Here is the list of entertainment from last weekend. TriBela Cia Dreams, Sultans Dreams, Without a Net, Stonhenj Players, Tribal Evolution, Sholo the Nubian, Brendana's Dream, The Escapologist, Wild Sky Tribal. I'm not sure who all will be there this coming weekend, but I was told there will  be a Jousting group.

We still don't know quite what we are doing. This is unfortunately the busy season at work. Might try to sneak down one day this weekend instead of making a weekend trip out of it. We'll get there! I will not be denied my faire fix!

The Crew of the Salty Kiss are all looking forward to a return portage at Middlefaire!  And I personally, am looking forward to running amuck around the village (on stage and off) and seeing everything I don't remember seeing from last year (blasted pain meds from gall bladder removal opening weekend of faire last year left my mind a bit hazy).  I vaguely remember being a "target" for my very first rat puking game and being on stage and chatting with Stonehenj players.. and ... and... so many others.  Boy, do I have a lot of catching up to do this year!  Looking forward to seeing you all again.

Have an absolutely outstanding 2nd weekend and we'll see you the following weekend!

Blessings,

Maybe because that's lunch time for people who get up at dawn?  ;)
If you can stay until dark, you may get to see a special show from "Celtic Fyre."  They were there last Sat and were very impressive!

We will be busy with other things tomorrow, but plan on coming down Sun around 12:30.  Sorry we'll miss you guys, unless you go 2 days in a row :)

Ahoy, me friends!

The Medieval weekend of Middlefaire was indeed an excellent time!  Many old friends were reacquainted with and many new friends were made.  The weekend was profitable for the Adventure and it is with great hope that we look forward to the coming weekend, the final weekend of Middlefaire 2009 – THE PIRATE INVASION!

"Pirate's Alley" and "Blackbead's" took a heavy dose of wind and rain damage during the week between the first two weekends of Middlefaire.  We had taken all of our stock away with us but much the "office box" took a direct hit.  It's the plastic tub that we put all of our office supplies in, things like scissors, pens, things to write on, a surge protector for when we travel with the laptop, price tags, etc.

There was at least four inches of rainwater in it.

Sails were torn down or loose, one of my posts was moving in the water-soaked ground, and the baby mosquitoes were everywhere!  But, we put the rigging back in proper order, threw all the dead fish overboard, and we were ready for action by Saturday morning!

On Saturday, it actually got crowded in me booth a few times!  Lots and lots of people, to include a large percentage that had never been to a Faire before, were out at the Faire, having a great time, and enjoying some excellent weather, some fantastic shows, and great food!

This coming weekend, there will be a "Grand Rat Pucking Tournament" that will be open to the public if you wish to participate.  There will be a pirate battle with cannon and musket fire, sword fights, and the Blue Moon Boucanniers storming one of the Faire buildings!  So come on out and enjoy the Faire!

See you this weekend!

Blackbead

PS:  M'Lady Donna Catalina, It were truly a pleasure to have ye visit me shop and spend a few moments conversing with this old seadog.  I hope to see ye again soon!  BB

Laird Marcus and I had originally planned on coming down this past Saturday (Sept. 26), but decided we'd rather wait till the final Saturday, since the weather is supposed to be cooler then.  I hate that we missed Dona Catalina and Don Juan, though!  Still, this weekend will give us a chance to renew acquaintances with Capt. Emerald and the Ladies of the Salty Kiss, which is good!  To get ready for Pirate Invasion, I am reading a pirate novel this week, and I am working on pirate garb for meself.  Laird Marcus is quite fond of wearin' the kilt, so I'm not sure about "piratically" garbing him.  (Do any pirates out there wear kilts?)  My usual persona is a Scottish lady, but she does have in her backstory a brother who turned pirate, and there are rumors that in Lady Morna's youth, she sailed a few times with her brother under the name of Mad Molly the Red...

Lady Morna,
Twill be grand indeed to see you and Laird Marcus once more - it has been far to long since last I clapped eyes on the twain o' ye!  Ooo!  pirates in kilts??  I cannae recall ever seeing a pirate lad in a kilt but ... I am a'thinking it would no be a bad idea ... espeically if'n said pirate lad was fair bonny ... and climbing up in the rigging o' m' ship ... and I were standing on the deck .... gazing heavenward to enjoy all wha' the Grand and Goode Laird hath given unto so humble a lass as ... I.   ;)   Verra, verra, verra bonny thoughts indeed ....

To meet Mad Molly the Red would be a grande thing as well .... mayhap that shall come about.  We shall see by this week's end, aye?

Until next our paths do cross ... be well and safe.

Ah, me friends, what a weekend!  Until the rains set in, all was better than well.  Lots of people; many friends, old and new; the Brotherhood show on Saturday morning was the best attended so far; and customers were filling me shop!  Then, in a mere moments, we went from a wonderful sunny day to a vicious downpour that had us walking water up to our ankles in the booth.

"Sounds 'faire' to me," you say?

Aye, it does, and some of the best times were had when everything was covered with tarps and the beer came out in force and the lovelies came in to sit and listen to our extemporaneous show, and we all fought together to save our skins (tarps) and our wares!  We made it home (although we still need to get back and pick up the remnants of the booth) and have already started drying out table coverings and stock, getting ready for the next faire - Pirate Days in The Colony, October 17-18.

The rain WILL end.  My table coverings WILL dry out and I'll replace the ruined boxes.  The t-shirts that got wet will dry (and go on sale!)  But faire and the faire experience never ends.  We pick ourselves up, wipe off the mud, hop in the shower (with a friend whenever possible!) and start all over again!

See you up on Lake Lewisville in two weeks!

Good day to all. Just wanted to pass on that we're having a casting call at Middlefaire next Saturday, June 19. We're looking for people to volunteer to be on cast. I think the aim is to begin the casting call around 11am, and it'll go until whenever we're done.

We're also planning on running a large scale Live Action Role Playing game event on the weekend of our fantasy festival in November. It'll be a battle between the primitive cultures (barbarians, viking berserkers, orcs, etc.) and the civilized cultures. [Please note, that it is a fantasy themed event, so we are more on the popular stereotypes for the various cultures and less on the historical accuracy side of things (although we won't stop someone who wants to participate as a historically accurate character from participating!)].

I have heard scuttlebutt that a new singing duo will be debuting the first 2 weekends of Middlefaire this year.  I have it on good authority that they be running under the name "The Shanty Lasses."  Fellow pirates report that this elusive pair could be doppelgangers for Diamond and m'self!   Keep a weather eye for this singing duo, no telling what they might be up to.  ;)

Middlefaire 2010 ended on Sunday with a beautiful day and plenty of fun!  A great time was had by all; I know I had wonderful birthday on the last Saturday.  The theme for the last weekend was Celtic Pride and there was plenty of that to be seen and heard!  So many great memories!  Check out Facebook for all the pictures!

EXCELLENT pictures, mate!  I think this year was the "tipping point" for Middlefaire.  Fifth year and two additional shows . . . this one's going to stick!@

I wanted to post a brief message to let anyone interested know that we are still going to be running the Magical and Medieval Fantasy Faire on the weekend of November 6, 2010. Also, along side the fantasy faire (at the same location) we will also be running a Live Action Role Playing game event we're calling "The Battle of Peltham Downs". Let me first start with the storyline we're running for the game event:

There is a magical item that can give the user the capability to take over any piece of land he/she wants, with literally NO resistance and as if they had always owned the piece of land. The leader of an army of primitive cultures (including barbarians, vikings, orcs, and mythological creatures like Minotaurs and satyrs), known as the Minotaur King has the item and is planning to use it during a ritual held on the Saturday of the weekend [No, not a real ritual!]. Parts of a army of civilized cultures are planning to stop this ritual and get the item for their leader, even though the civilized army leader does not have any idea how to use the item. The weekend's events will culminate with a battle between the two armies.

Our primitive army will include barbarians, vikings (especially berserker-types), orcs, minotaurs, satyrs, and cursed pirates (cursed that the males can not wear a shirt (although they can wear a vest). I personally am playing the leader of the primitive army, the Minotaur King (a berserker with the spirit of a minotaur king that manifests itself through wearing specific items.).

Our civilized army (which technically has nobody playing the army's leader) includes in essence any civilized culture!

All combat during the event will be via foam LARP-style weaponry and we will theoretically have a vendor on site selling suitable weapons. We will also theoretically have a designated primitive army camp area where non-modern tents may be set up. [We also have a modern (patron) camping area as well suitable for modern tents.].

I would personally love to have a bunch more people participating in this game event (which since it will be more of a test run will be included with admission to the faire (after signing liability waivers)) and I would REALLY love to get a few people to do some more mythological creatures or barbarians and berserkers!

Hi,
anyone know if Middlefaire made any improvements this year?
Last year the wharf stage was unusable and needed to be rebuilt and the pub had no shade.

We were there for Pirate Fest also.  The pub was shady and nice.  We enjoyed it.  Not sure which stage was the warf stage but they used a lot of the stages that day.  It is small but they still managed to part me with my money for garb!

Hi All :)

Can you guys fill me in on Middlefaire?  I am considering applying to have a booth there.

How are the crowds?

I'd be driving up from south of Houston and I want to be sure it will be worth the effort.  It's a very long drive to make!

Thanks!

This is a small Faire. Can't really give you any numbers as to attendance but I guess there might be a 100 to 130 or more per day.
Title: Middlefaire Casting - Barbarians and Mud Show
Post by: cjacksonii on July 27, 2011, 11:01:37 AM
Hello everyone!

I wanted to post about the upcoming festival season this year. I personally am now down to working on two projects for the festival this year.

The first is the mud show. I've turned it into more of a "Whose Line Is It Anyway" style show, I have a few already cast for the show, but I really am searching for a few more people to either be in the show or be understudies for the show. All characters in the show are barbarians and most are going to be wearing loincloths, with a couple wearing fur as well. We're only doing three of five different Improv games throughout each show, and each will end with me getting completly submerged into the mud. (To put people's mind at ease, I'm not really going to be submerged, but I hope it will look that way!)

The second is attached to the mud show, and that's trying to form a horde of barbarians. Personally, I'd like to have a group of 5-8 (or more) loincloth and fur clad barbarians roaming around the festival. They will also be able to get into fights with each other using safe boffer-style weapons normally used by some of the more interesting Live Action Role Playing games like NERO. They will be led by a character I will be playing known as the Minotaur King, a minotaur with a human face (who is able to change into a standard human form for the mud show). For those that do not have a loincloth but want to be in this horde, I will be bringing plenty of material to make simple loincloths for those that need them, although I would encourage those that have experience playing a barbarian to bring their own garb. The cast of the mud show will be a part of this horde as well. The horde will also lead in a drum jam after the faire closes on Saturday nights. I'd also love to have a few mythological creatures (other than my character) as part of this horde, especially minotaurs and satyrs.

The only request I have is that those wanting to come out should be aware that several of the already cast people for the mud show are gay men, so those that apply should be "gay-friendly" (meaning they're open to working with gay people).

For the mud show, we are only going to be doing it for the first three weekends of the festival (Halloween weekend and the first two of November). Theoretically, the horde will be done all five weekends (weather permitting!).

And for those that have never played a barbarian but would like to, this will be a perfect chance for them to get their feet wet and try out playing such a character. One of my favorite sayings is "It's not the body that counts when you play a barbarian...it's the attitude. If you have the attitude, the body will eventually follow."

Those that are interested can get in touch with me in one of a few different ways. The best way is to come up to Hillsboro and attend a cast meeting on the 20th of August starting at noon at the Super 8 Hotel. The other way, if you can't make it to that meeting is to contact me via email at clayton@terabites.com, and please (so I can filter it out of the junk I tend to get) put either "Middlefaire Mud Show Cast" or "Middlefaire Barbarian Horde" in the subject line.

And for those that want to come out and play a different type of character, please get in touch with the festival itself and we can route you to the appropriate cast director or come out to the August 20th meeting!

[Please note: All cast positions are volunteer, although mud show cast may get a share of any tips that might be received.]

I'm personally hoping that I'll be ready for the mud show to premier that weekend. Doing the mud show is literally a first for me, the past two years as a cast director at Middlefaire, all I did was roam around and talk to the guests we had and lead the parade. With all the tricks we have in mind for the mud show, I'm going to be very nervous with making it all work.

Please don't get annoyed if the show isn't everything one expects from a mud show initially....it'll improve with time!
