I know that some Rennies will be staying at Hotels in Bastrop for opening weekend (Feb 19-20).
If you will arrive by sometime Friday evening, would you like to get together at one of the local restaurants for Dinner?
In another thread, I mentioned a couple of places with really good food -
Cedar's Mediterranean Grill (http://www.cedarsmedgrill.com/1.html)
(Google Maps - It's on the North side of Hwy 71, just East of the Colorado River bridge. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Cedar%27s+Mediterranean+Grill,+Bastrop,+TX&aq=&sll=30.105155,-97.316245&sspn=0.004033,0.0103&ie=UTF8&hq=Cedar%27s+Mediterranean+Grill,&hnear=Bastrop,+Texas&z=16))
Very tasty Italian / Mediterranean meals. The Death by Garlic sandwich is also really good, and do try the Chipotle Hummus. Mmmmm!
Roadhouse Restaurant (http://www.kendrasroadhouse.com/rhmain.html)
(Google Maps - It's on the North side of Hwy 21, right where Loop 150 intersects. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Roadhouse+Restaurant,&aq=&sll=30.111294,-97.294643&sspn=0.01613,0.041199&ie=UTF8&rq=1&ev=zi&radius=1.48&split=1&hq=Roadhouse+Restaurant,&hnear=&ll=30.111294,-97.294643&spn=0.01613,0.041199&z=16))
Great Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches, and also a selection of good Vegetarian items.
Do either of these sound like a good gathering place?
Or, do you have other places in mind?
Feedback requested, since it's only 3 weeks away.
Take Care,
David Baldock
But feedback hurts my ears! ...
I think the general unspoken idea is a gathering of some type Friday eve. If I'm not mistaken, we're going to help the Don & Doña toast in their anniversary. Several of us are going to be at the Hampton. Barring any problems, Nim and I should arrive sometime mid-afternoon, expecting to be between 3-5 pm. What's everyone else's ETA?
We won't be leaving Dallas until noon, so I'm guessing 4:00pm to 5:00 pm. The Cedars looks interesting. The more the merrier you know...
We're up for a dinner meet up Friday. Not sure when we plan to leave. Probably around Noon, so 4-5ish for us too.
If I get away from work at the usual time (3 PM) on Friday, 18-Feb, I should roll into Bastrop between 5:30 and 5:45 PM. It's been awhile since I've driven out I-10 and up Hwy 71 from Houston to Bastrop, so I don't know if there are any construction delays on that route.
Looking forward to seeing y'all that weekend!
Take Care,
David Baldock
Let me know which place and we will be there.
I would like to vote for the Cedars. I'm looking forward to that weekend.
Since one of the principal reasons for gathering is to help Don and Doña celebrate their anniversary, I vote we accept the choice by acclamation! Would 6pm be too early? 7pm be better? Head count?
PS: I am contacting the restaurant for information and will post that as soon as I get it!
I second the motion, Merlin.
well, unless someone has an objection, it looks like most people will arrive 4-5ish, so how about 6 for reservations?
In order to put together a list and head count, I've started a Reservation Thread (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=14388.0). If you plan on attending, please check in there.
Anyone staying in Bastrop, or anyone that wants to come from one of the other areas—campsite, Elgin, wherever—are certainly welcome.
I wish I could make it- but don't drive after dark. I am very blind at night- and my driving is not great during the day! Enjoy! Cedars is a good place!

See your PM! ;)
Wish I could but once we get into the campgrounds on early Friday evening, we aren't leaving until we're packing up and heading out to go home on Saturday.
Have fun at dinner and see you all insides the gate on Saturday! :D
It's looking like I will not make it over to Sherwood Forest Faire, since I've got the added expense of moving at the end of this month.
Take Care,
David Baldock
Drat! Ugh to moving! I hope yours goes smoothly David!!
Sorry you won't make it David. Hopefully we'll see you some other time.
Okay, everyone who have checked in (list is in the first post of the thread).
We have a table for 15 reserved at the Cedar Mediterranean Grill in Bastrop for 6 pm under the name "Merlin" ... I figured that would be easier than using my real name which tends to be pronounced in too many different ways to be of any use by the restaurant.
You have roughly 5 days, 1 hour, 40 minutes, 27 seconds to get to the restaurant. Don't be late!
I can imagine that 'Merlin' will be the topic of discussion among the restaurant staff all week. :o
