I have been trying to figure out a name for a puppy.(Akita) Any suggestions?
I am thinking about going with "Neko" or "Nakashi"....
The next Akita I get, and I will get another one when I lose Abbe (who I didn't name), I am going to find out the Japanese word for "bear" and make sure that's part of the name. Abbe looks so much like a bear!

Kuma
Well...according to Google Search , Neko means Cat in Japanese. Your new pup might not appreciate the irony. :D. Nakashi is nice.
You might pull up a Japanese list of names for ideas.

As Anna pointed out, Neko is "cat" in Japanese but then, I had a friend who named his cat "Bird," so why not? What color is the puppy? If it is white, you could name it "Shiro," which means "white" in Japanese and is a common name for a dog there. (As is "Kuro" if the dog is black. :))
Akira
;D
LOL, means Cat, I like it but then I am weird. ;)
What does Akira mean?
The pup will be 8 weeks old, he is what is called a pinto, white with blackish brown spots. The mother is a pinto and the father is black.
I havent done a google search on the Japanese language yet but plan to today.
Go to baby names.com and search for Japanese names.
akio is smart man, manly
arata is New one
Asa means born at dawn , and the name of one of good friends.
daichi means large, great, as in large land mass
daiki means big, shining
Dengi means gift from ancestors
Goro is filth (depending on how much it likes to play in mud)
Haru is born in spring
you get the idea... :)
LadyStitch, great names! :) I think this is going to be harder than I thought, lol.
I searched Nakashi and it's the name of a Japanese goddess. A nice direction to go, but wrong gender. Maybe while you are pulling up lists you could look at.lists of Japanese Gods or! Gaurdians.
Got pictures? Gosh I bet he's cute. :)

Akira is the name of a character in a japanimation movie. Good movie.
Bean!!! you said he white with blackish brown spots
Shoot, lol, no Nakashi then...I DO have a couple pics of him on my computer, how do I post them here? he is absolutely adorable.
My son is into the whole japanimation thing, he might have some ideas too...
Akira...hmmmmm...maybe....
And I am going to look up those Japanese Gods and Goddesses.
Bean is a GOOD name, unfortunately taken by one of my sons dogs. ;D
I GOT IT!!!!!!! ;D
Baku, a good spirit, known as "the eater of dreams"
All four of my thumbs are up....
If I could figure out how to post pics, he even LOOKS like his name is "Baku". ;D
Talked with the guy about picking him up next week. He says both of the parents are excellent guardians of their house. The female is about 80 pounds and the male, 115.
Four thumbs up.... ::) Okay, lol, so not going to ask. :D
I like Baku, Mairte. :)
Here's a thread on how to post pics:

Best that you
don't ask...it was an ugly scene with Queen Mab...it was centuries ago. I've learned to live with it.
Well. Life is strange. Fate had it that I ended up NOT getting the Akita pup.(Weird circumstance.)
What I DID get and will be picking up this month is a German Shepherd pup. Grandparents are from the Czech Republic, father is Czech/German lines and mother is Czech/American lines. Father is 115 pounds...looks like the pup will take more after the father.
His name is Leo. (I just couldnt use the akita name, it didnt sound right!!)
He can learn from my Chow/Akita the rules of being a good watchdog around here, lol. :) Not that he will probably need that as he gets older.
Leo arrives here next week!!! Yay!!! :)
