So I was wondering, would anyone be interested in doing a pattern trade??
For example I accidentally bought a pattern in the size category larger than I need, maybe someone here has use of it.
Or maybe you have a pattern lying around that at first you thought would be awesome but now your kinda "mmeehhhh" about.
Get the idea??
Just wondering.
cool idea.....I got some I would be willing to trade.......how would this work?
I have a duplicate pattern I would definitely be interested in trading. It's Simplicity 3685 in size 14-20.
I'm in! Theres two methods I can think of...everyone post what patterns you have and the size range and such and then its just first come first serve on who gets what...or we make more of a shipment circle, everyone gets a name and you ship on all your extras and when you get in a box of patterns pick one or two then mail them on...and you can easily add in any others you find you dont want...tho shipping would end up costing bunches in the end...hrrrrrmmm *ponders other ideas*
I may have a few patterns to pass along. I''l look through later and see what I have.
Here's a thought. We can make a game of it. Say...I see a pattern I'd like from you Ariel. You send it to me at no charge...I'll assume postage isn't that much for a pattern and the pattern itself has no big value to the owner....then since you sent along a pattern you get to pick the next pattern. The owner sends it to you at no charge and that person then gets the next pick. If the pattern requested is more costly the owner can put a value on it. Would that work?
Here is my list...
Simplicity
9966 size 6-12
3637 size 16-24
3782 size 14-20
9753 size xs-m
9163 size 6-16
McCall's
3053 size 8-12
P306 size 6-12
Butterick
5656 size B-child (2-7/8)
And not just Ren patterns. There is an out of print Civil War pattern I REALLY want. I have it but in the wrong size!
I have for trade:
McCall's 4696 16-22
Simplicity 4249 6-12
Simplicity 4900 20-26 (I will only trade this if I can find my size. This is an out of print pattern.)
I want the Simplicity 4900 but in 10-18.
Also, what if we see a pattern we want but don't have anything to trade? Can we just buy it? Up to the owner of course.
I'll keep an eye on this thread. I am a downright hoarder of patterns, so if I see a request of one pop us, I'll see if I have it.
I'll have to go through my stash, I know I have some everyday clothes patterns that are sitting there that need a new good home. When I get time (hopefully this weekend) I will inventory what I can manage to part with.
It might also be good to have a "wish" list with your willing to trade stuff.
For example I'm intrested in one pattern, but I'm not sure what they might want in return.
I am always on the look out for vintage patterns. Since I do so much stuff set in 1940's, 50's,60's and 70's those patterns give me a leg up when I'm making things for shows.
McCalls 8420 Various kids sizes
McCalls 8695 Various kids sizes
Simplicity 7429 Various woman's sizes (I have multiples of this)
Simplicity 9295
Simplicity 7221
Simplicity 3727 size 16-24
I'm sure I have other's but those are just ones I have access to at the momment.
The way I was thinking it could work is everyone posts 2 lists
1- the list of patterns they have that need a new home
2- their pattern wish list
Ideally it would be an even exchange- like I have a pattern Lady Isabella wants and she has one I want- a bit rare but seeing how we are all pattern hoarders I wouldn't be surprised.
Or if she has something I want but I don't have anything she wants, we can do it how Anna says and just pass it along.
I'd even be willing to pay regular first class shipping for a pattern, its easy enough to paypal someone a few dollars.
Kind of a pay it forward event.
I should go thru my mom's patterns. She has some REAL oldies! ;D
Oh, I'm always intrested in any and all costume patterns not just vintage stuff. ;D
Hey when one month you are making drag dresses, the next pirate outfits for ren faire, then making sci fi underwater queens of the sea, and then the next roman/hercules stuff, you kind of need all kinds. ;D

When I first read this I thought you said sci-fi underWEAR!!!! ;D
LOL, that's how I read it too! Had to re-read it after your post! :o
phhewww ok I feel better
I read it the exact same way Dinobabe read it.
I was wondering what kind of sci fi underwear underwater queens wore. hehehe
Glad I'm not alone. ;D
Oh they wear clam shell and sea weed G strings don't you know that? ;D
Regardless, I make all kinds of things, and I am on the look out for all kinds of patterns.
Goobs ::) ;D
I'll dig thru my patterns and post a list of what I have...I'm gonna go wander thru the big three pattern sites and see what jumps out at me to add to my wish list :)
I think I've reached the point where basically, the only patterns I still want are the ones that became out of print before I started sewing a couple years ago. I think I have everything else.
Lady Rebecca, if you know which patterns it is you want you should post what you're looking for anyway. Just on the off chance someone has one for you
If you say so! I feel like I basically want every out of print pattern out there, but here's the list I have saved to my computer:

Did my huge list kill the flow? lol...
I've been up to my eye balls in sewing for the theater I havent't had time to go through my patterns to trade. I know I found 4 "normal" patterns, and then 1 period OOP pattern I might be willing to give up for the right 'price'.
Don't worry Ariel, Im sure it wasn't you ;)
With our faire season over I am hoping to be able to post my own list in the next week or so.
I too am a costume director for a theatre and love old patterns... I know I have some duplicates. I just have to go through my boxes...
Lady Stitch what state are you in ... Where is your theatre... I am in Traverse City Michigan... If we were close we could trade stuff..
I'm about to be blessed by a ton of patterns, but not for a happy reason. I've been made executor of a friend's mom's community theater sewing stuff. Sadly she was just given 2 weeks to live due to cancer, but she wanted her things to bless other people. Depending on what I find I may be able to do a pattern swap. All she asked was that they be USED by people who would appreciate them.
I will keep you posted on what I find.
That's really sweet!
I got the patterns last night, and ... considering the two tubs together weighed about 30-40 pounds I'd say there are a "few" patterns in there.
According to my friend, she was known for buying 4-5 identical patterns, especially of historical stuff. Just by perusing it last night I saw a lot of discontinued Ren/historical patterns. I plan to inventory them this weekend to see what is in there.
Her family has said they don't care who get's the patterns just as long as they are used and loved. Once inventoried I'll see if there is anything one of you have posted as wants is on the list. All I would ask, if you don't have a pattern to trade, is that if you are not near, by shipping is paid . It isn't required but I know her family would love a nice thank you note.
Blessings everyone.
She sounds like she is wonderful lady.
How would one go about looking up out of print/discontinued patterns??
I will be posting my list of availables later today
On some of the big 3 sites they have a link for "discontiuned patterns" They are one's they discontiuned in roughly the last year that they still have in their warehouse. It is where I started looking for one's. Otherwise it may be spit balling, IE "I am looking for a Men's size 36 chest doublet pattern" who knows what is out there. I mean one of my favorite dress patterns is actually a pattern for 1962 that I found. /shrug
The way I've found out about most of the OOP patterns I want or have gotten has been through these forums actually. When people post pictures of something I love to death I ask if they used a commercial pattern and if so which one. Most people who have been sewing for quite awhile still use their older OOP patterns and have no problem giving out the information about it.

Does anyone have a space suit pattern or one like this but in two pieces? Even this one will do. http://www.etsy.com/listing/11298327/space-suit-costume-pattern-out-of-this
Sadly, No I don't anymore. I had to purge allot of patterns, and since I had a real ST uniform pattern , I didn't think I needed it. Trust me I was kicking myself when I have had call to make 6 space suits since them. :(
Yes, I do understand. I did the same thing when I moved recently. I now only have two bins of patterns instead of 5-ish. Now if only I can get rid of the fabric as easily.
If it is any help, I ended up using a men's worksuit/jumpsuit pattern, and altered it to get the look I wanted. It worked fairely well. I know kwik sew has one, but not sure about the big 3. I got lucky, and inhereted a vintage men's and women's jumpsuit patterns.
As for what to do with the fabric? Heh, I made friends with quilters, swaped, and found ways to use it up. My stash is on a fast at the momment. So far I have used up about 25 yards of fabric that was hanging around gathering dust. :)
