I went to see a new show call Lord Marshall Laww. The website is it is a "total audience participation" which sounded like fun. However we were the only two in the audience.
Did anyone go see his show?? I felt so sorry for him. He sang a song told us a few dirty jokes and said thanks for coming.
We saw him at an afternoon show. I wasn't greatly impressed, but I would be interested in checking him out later in the season to see if he gets his stride. I don't know if he's just new to Scarby or a new act period. I'll give him another chance...
Arsene was a scream.
I know absolutely nothing about the new Lord Marshall Laww's show. I may try to see one of his shows this Saturday when I'm not drumming ;)
We really enjoyed Arsene, yet again. I can't count the number of times we've seen him! Although he does a similar routine every show, it's different every time because he gets SO much audience participation, and you never know what's going to happen :D
Remember, he's only here for 2 more weekends!
Wow, I guess I really missed out on Arsene! I hadn't heard anything about it, so I didn't go check it out. I enjoyed Don Juan and Miguel, as always, and Nature of Mercy is always a great laugh. And it was really great to see Zilch the Tory Steller again - he's one of my favorites. I also caught a couple of shows of Motley Players III. The first one was funny, but not anything special, but the water balloon one was really pretty hilarious.
As far as music goes, Sloanwolf was excellent, and the Glass Harmonium was absolutely fascinating.
And Adam Crack was pretty mindblowing. He's crazy!
I think that's pretty much all the shows I saw, and they probably weren't new (though a couple of them were new to me). But really, my favorite thing was all the dancing!
It sounds like I should have gone to see Arsene instead. I well next week.
I do want to give Lord Marshall Laww's show another chance.
Was it just me or was there not very many people at scarby this weekend??
You weren't the only one who saw Lord Marchall Law's show. It was.. painful. The audience was pretty full but it was not giving him anything. I think most of the reason people were there was because at that time his whole seating area was shaded and cool. It was the "Wenches Gone Wild" show. The only people that seemed to partisipate with him were rennies. We knew what he was trying to do, so played along. The mundanes didn't get it, or sat for 5 minutes then went on.
We also checked out the new sword fighters who do shakespere, over on the pirate ship stage (can't remember the stage's real name). We went to their first show on Saturday, and it was... was... ok I guess. I'm not sure if it was just that the audience was not giving them anything or if they just were nervous, or they many not have hit their stride yet. We might give them another chance later in the season.
Being vendors we don't get to see many shows, but being placed by the Crown stage in the shade is a blessing. We enjoyed Don Juan & Miguel as well as the other show, although I don't know his name, he made me laugh. It didn't seem as busy as in the past, but I am sure it will pick up this next week. :)
Don Juan said that they were going to attach more shade from the top of the stage over to the current canopy. That might attract more attention to them. Then again they were in a prime location for sun. Saddly when we went there was so many people no breeze got to use in the middle and we roasted, even with fans and shade.
I must say they picked a nice little shade spot for your canine creations. You model was quite cute out front :)
We really enjoyed Arsene - he really cranked his show up and was hilarious. Adam Crack did as well - our newbie guests were wowed by his show. They also loved Don Juan and Miguel and Daniel the DoD. We did see Sloan Wolfe on Sunday mid-afternoon and I think the guys were roasting, still some great music. We enjoyed shopping and noticed some nice new vendors that we'll check out later in the year. Didn't see Twig as often (Sunday at 3 by the flagpole) and caught the German Twins - they too had ramped up their act and were uber funny as usual. Ready for next weekend!

I think I posted some of this in another thread, so apologies.
My perspective was that it was a good, big crowd. We arrived for tailgate shortly after 8:30, and the first couple of sections were already full. But our weekends at Scarby are limited in number, and that may skew our view. I thought last years Memorial Day weekend was light attendance.
The Sunday crowd was down some, but not a small crowd for Sunday. Saturday's crowd I thought was much larger.

I have been going to Scarby for only 4 r 5 years. This weekend did not feel like opening. It looked like (to me and my husband) the park was less then haft as full for opening.
I'm glad I read this. My group is going this Sat and Sun and I have a spreadsheet with the shows we are going to see laid out in a nice orderly fashion....I had put Marshal Laww on there, but now I am thinking of swapping that with Arsene....might have to do some rearranging...but I have couple days to get that in order.
I'm also glad that the weather isn't going to be too bad (hopefully). One thing I will be doing this year is wearing sunblock. It never fails and I always end up with really weird tan lines....that are hard to explain later when not at faire.
We try to make a list of what we want to see, but it never seems to work out (usually side-tracked to one of the pub areas!!) - although that gives us the reason to come back next year!
If you have never seen Arsene, it is one act worth seeing. (Just a note for anyone going to Colorado for Rendezvous, Arsene is there.)
Saturday seemed like a normal, slightly lighter crowd that last years Opening, at least to me.
I think the mention of rain made some people hesitate...
Lady Cassandra, if it's a choice between Arsene and Marshal Laww, I would suggest the former, then if you have time, see Marshal Laww. I would like to think, for his sake, that it was just a matter of "getting his act together," as it were.
Thanks Merlin the Elder for the suggestion. That is one of the things I love about the fair and its fair folk- always willing to accept people and give benefit of the doubt.
I have adjusted my schedule...and it might work out to see both!
We went and saw Arsene LOVE IT.
While my wife and I did not go to the Lord Marshall Law show yesterday, I will say that as a character he was funny. While not on stage he walked around the festival and calling out to basically no one... "Lord Marshall Law will now be shopping" as he entered a shop was engaging for the crowd. He also on several occasions engaged members of the crowd as he walked around. This may help his show become more popular.
We did see Arsene (which we have seen many times) and he is always great. His show differed slightly from the one at TRF which was nice. I sat through part of Lady Merilee Effingham's show. She needed a microphone would be the only thing I would fault of it, otherwise entertaining. Twig is AMAZING. Her mannerism's make her a wonderful person to catch and watch. We watched Don Juan and Miguel for the first time this year and they were very funny. Mostly adult based humor so your younger children may not get it but the weekend we were there the misting bridge was turned on and it is right next to them so our younger children went and ran around in the mist. Daniel Duke of Danger is really good. It seemed to me like he needed a bit longer time frame though which is good because it left you wanting to see more. Adam Crack is always funny and amazing. You have to see his show. Also, bring a copy of the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records and he will sign his listing for you. We loved the music of Cast In Bronze but from an audience photo opportunity point of view the stage he is on is really dark. We saw him at TRF as well and the lighting was much better. We saw the German Brothers yesterday. Loved the show. They rate it PG, probably should be PG-13. They were having technical difficulties during that show though that made their microphones static. Hopefully that was a one time occurrence, otherwise that definitely needs to be fixed. I saw the Moor of Dundee briefly and she has a really good voice. Would recommend her for people that like to listen to music as they enjoy a beverage or three. I had the opportunity to listen to Sara Mullen yesterday. She is usually on one of the two bridges. The setting and her music are beautiful. She could become a small stage act in my opinion and do quite well. Sloanwolfe is Scarby's high energy group. We have seen many bagpipe drum groups and some are more engaging but Sloanwolfe does quite a good job I thought. Lastly, if you have not seen Wine and Alchemy you must see this show. They are extremely good. So much so that my 10 year old daughter has all their albums on her mp3 player. This is saying something in today's youth. I have always found their music really good but their mingling with the audience leaves something to be desired. Other acts do tend to treat the Renny crowd and fans better in my opinion.
Have fun at Scarby. The shows and cast are great. The location is probably the most beautiful for a Renaissance faire/festival in the State of Texas.
Sarah does have her own show twice a day on the small stage by the front entrance. I believe 12:30 and 2:30 but I could be wrong.
Sarah's shows are at 12:30 and 2:00 at the Hightower stage. That is the one near the gate. If she is not at the stage or one of the bridges she will be playing at a wedding or reception. I think she did 4 weddings this weekend.
She generally plays at the Eagles Crossing Bridge most of the day and goes to the Villagers Bridge (near the bakery) after 6:00pm till cannon.
Arsene is so friggin funny.... it's my new favorite. Anyone know who is replacing him after week 3?
From the printed program:
Week 4 - Danger Committee
Week 5 - Aerial Angels
Week 6 - David Arkenstone (Also shows the Bilge Pumps at the same time...dunno what that's about)
Week 7 - no one listed... might supposed to be Bilge Pumps this week
Week 8 - Dr Kaboom
I know they were haveing some special guests that were at other stages, but I could be wrong.
There was a guest opening weekend (that I totally missed) called Bailiu Ceoil at the Sea Hag stage. Owain Phyfe will return to the Sea Hag on closing weekend. That's all the program shows.

All of them were, with the exception of Arsene. There were multiple errors in the printed program for Scarby this time... I think they need to hire me to move down there and take care of them. ;)

I like him too. Apparently (I wasn't there) my BIL & SIL were some of his 'victims' on Sunday. They liked him a lot.
FYI: If you're headed to Rendevous he normally does CoRF too. That's where we first saw him.
Arsene is a geat performer. I first met him in a magic shop in Mpls in 88 or so. He was doing MNRF at the time.
Do not miss Doktor Kaboom, he is hilarious! I saw him in Kentucky and would sit thru every show and almost dislocate my jaw from laughing. You can get a taste at www.doktorkaboom.com
Marga! I must say I'm enjoying the Gypsies a lot this year. The whole troupe is very fun and entertaining. I am not certain if I'm just noticing them more this year or what, but ya'll are FANTASTIC!!! :-*
I went this past weekend, and as I figured- I did not get to see all the shows that I had carefully laid out to see. Oh well :) I did get to see some great shows!
Wine & Alchemy- love the music, we actually went to a show on Saturday and a show on Sunday. The show on Saturday- Roxanne was actually being playful with the audience- it surprised me. Sunday, I brought my hubby to the show and she wasn't very playful...she told some of the same jokes, but didn't have the heart in it. BUT- I still love them even if they are more shy then other performers.
Arsene- so glad I went and saw him. He reminded me of a dirty Red Skelton :) I love the way he messed with the audience. My friend didn't like that it was a "silent" show- but I thought that added to the comedy- it had a certain style about it that way, and I loved it. We are bringing our little girls to the fair on May 7th and I would have loved to been able to take them to see him, but he will be gone of course. BUT- the acrobats will be there that weekend, which sounds great.
Christophe the Insultor- Well, was I in for a birthday treat. My friends turned on me and I got to be one of his victims. I must say, I enjoyed it!!
Adam Crack- WOW- loved it and he was fun in his interactions with the crowd. Amazingly, with my cheap digital camera I was able to get a picture of the pop can exploding...I plan on taking my girls to see him for sure. I might jus sit them on the front row and not tell them what he does. Would that be mean....or funny? Hahah
We saw the German Twins, and while I laughed and enjoyed it- it was pretty much the same as previous years. And the show I sat in had a guy who was absolutely hilarious when he was pulled on stage for the crowd participation part.
There were several times we were getting drinks (my favorite is a cider/ale mix...that sometimes they make me buy 2 cups and then they mix it, other times they allow me to buy 1 cup and just mix it that way...*shrugs*) BUT- I loved the live music that was playing at the pub areas. I saw several different singers (for the many different refills) and enjoyed each of them.
I think we saw a couple other shows, but those were the most memorable. Can't wait to go back!
Oh- did anyone know/hear about the wreck that happened on Sunday outside of the gate entrance? We were stuck in traffic for awhile behind it, but never found out what happened.
Sooooo.... had to go see this Marshal Law act to see what everyone was talking about and I have to say..... ummmm... WOW.
Totally my opinion, which I am entitled to, his sidekick should work on a different character. Very confusing as to whether she is playing intoxicated or "special needs".
Not trying to be funny or hurtful here.... just a very confusing personality ... and as for the show... well.. it just missed the mark.
Daniel Duke of Danger - Fantastic and funny
Don Juan and Miguel - Really nothing to say here.... they are one of the best shows at any faire.
German Brothers...Adam Crack.... Knife throwers.... all worth seeing...very entertaining.
Motley Players... Wine and Alchemy .... always deliver
Will be checking out Aerial Angels in May and the Danger Committee next week
Adam Crack was at the SoCal Ren Faire for a season and NO ONE went to see his show. It sounds like he's pretty amazing, I am sad I missed it. :(

He IS amazing! I can't see how no one would see him...he's a major hit & a "must see" show here this year.
I have several photos of him and 2 short videos in my set from April 17, but here's the best photo I've taken of him:
Another show we found to be quite fun was Steel the Show. It's basically sword fighting comedy with audience involvement. However, it's only performed once a day on the Peg Leg Stage at 10:30. I took a few pics, which can be found starting here in my set from yesterday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/al-nimer/5648044015/in/set-72157626563747482/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/al-nimer/5648044015/in/set-72157626563747482/)
Danger Committee is a staple at Minnesota - we like them

See I did not find it funny at all. I would had left the show but I was too far forward. I wish they would put Ebenezer Crumby The Irate Pyrate back on that stage. He is in the White Horse Pub now. I LOVE the pub (dont get me wrong) but when he was on the pig leg stag he got a lot bigger crowd. I LOVE his show, it is a must see.
I still need to see Nature of Mercy. Has any one go to to before??

Thank you! We have developed our Gypsy Extravaganza out some this year. We actually have two time-slots due to some miscommunication.
First is as on the web and sign-board - 330 on the turtledrome. We will tell our usual Gypsy version of a traditional fairytale. Then, we will have the audience help us on the second story... we have three bags of Villian, Hero and Location. What they draw sets the scene for what we tell. Sunday it was Goldilocks and the Bridge Troll (3 Billy Goats Gruff) at the Gingerbread Cottage (Hansel and Gretl). No one knows what will happen, the entire show is 100% improv. We make every single line up on the spur of the moment!
Then the 430 show we delay a bit til 435, same location. Similar format, depending on our audience. We might do the traditional and bag-improv both, or just the bag-improv stories.
Come support your the Vitsa of the Fiery Dawn, the Gypsies of Scarborough Faire!
Marga (aka Jofranka Whispersteppe, Pfuri Dai of the Vitsa!)
I loved the gypsies too! Lots of energy!
I missed Woodrat this year. I was told he would be back. I hope Ralphie the rag picker is OK? Miss him too1
Ralphie is fine. He had other commitments for this year. We're still waiting to hear if he's going to be able to visit for Memorial Day weekend, but he's pretty busy so it's iffy at this point. :)

I always enjoy their show. It's sort of in the vein of Don Juan and Miguel, since they also do whip tricks, comedy, and swordplay, but they also pull kids from the audience, so it kind of becomes a little bit of a different show every time. It's definitely funny.
Nature of Mercy is always a good show. I love that it specifically engages the children. Capt John (I think that's his character), the "good guy" tries to recruit children all during the day as he walks around the faire to come and be his "lieutenants". It's a fun show, and it teaches children a lesson about mercy and about not kicking a guy just because you've got the upper hand & he's down so you could do it.
and Tawn (Capt. John) is a nice little bit of eye candy as well... ;)
