I'll be there with my Step-Son. This is his last chance to go to Faire for a while. He is going into the Navy in August. So I am taking him to Scarby for the weekend. Just the guys.  Should be a fun send off for him.

well....I'll think about going....

nope...don't even have to think about it!  I'll be there with my pretty dress on!
I can be found most often wandering about the Pecan Grove and naturally sunday I shall be at the lists watching my guys throw  :D
You can be sure that there are some fantastic throwers on cast this year.  I believe Glen Cameron has thrown 4 perfect 12's in a row....and broken a caber

The PP and I will be there this week, but we may or may not make tailgate. Friday is opening night for his new show, so he may have trouble getting moving in the morning.  ;D We wil BOTH have new garb for this week. Yay!

Okay, due to circumstances beyond our control we will be out on Sunday. Wearing my new kilt for the first time! Bringing a 12 year old nephew for his first experience at a Faire, he's dyin' to see the joust of course. He even talked his grandma into buying him some pirate garb - which means he may be back out on Pirate weekend.

It seems like it's been non-stop the past three days up here in central Arkansas. Demolished a church not far from the house. Demolished part of a town and killed several a few miles east of campus.  Not been a good spring around here.  I wish I could get away to join everyone for Highland Weekend, but cannot get free.

In addition to all the Cast Members that are throwing at the Highland Fling some of the Top Throwers in the US will be there on Saturday in the Master's division and Sunday in the Men's A (Glen Cameron's class) as well! Come check it out! Laird Avery has really put in the time and work this season to make this a stellar show for the patrons.

I want so badly to be there this weekend, especially to  really wanted to see you and the others throw, B. The finances are restricting me, with a wedding on Saturday night, of which I'm catching a ride to early during the day. Then Sunday, it's a mad dash to get my art checked over and ready to be hung for my Mid-Point review for the Painting/Drawing program on Monday night. So no Highland Fling for me. :-(

Our weekend got broken up by a work-related event on Saturday night, and next week, one on Friday night (when we would normally already be in town). If it were about half the travel time, things would be so much easier!

Haha! I'd forgotten about that! We're bringing a Canadian coworker of mine who is here in town for a two week visit. If you can make it to morning tailgate it will throw her for a perfect loop with the crazy Americans!!

She's even going to dress up! Her action item for the evening was to run to Target and find some sensible shoes! She only brought heels and flip flops. I personally find flip flops completely unacceptable at faire. Too many rocks, bleh!

Well...... I was well on my way and about 35 miles into the trip my cars' temp gauge started going nuts, all on the hot side.  >:(  I couldn't find anything wrong under the hood, but I could tell it was running hot and the fans wouldn't stop.  It wanted to cool off at slow speeds or idle, so likely the thermostat.
So since I had not even got out of town yet, I eased over to my dealer and dropped it off, hopefully it'll be something simple, and it will ready Saturday evening.  This is the first time in 6 years and 83,000 miles my car has given me any kind of trouble, but it's my third unsuccessful try in the last four years to make it to Scarby, something has jacked me up every time.

Everyone have fun, sorry I won't be seeing you this time.

Jeez! I woke up way early this morning! If we'd been packed and left when I woke up, we'd be early for tailgate this morning...this is gonna be a really long day, especially with the requisite gathering with my co-workers this evening... OY! (It's a good thing I have a full bottle handy...)

Well, our plans went awry and we aren't there today. I hope everyone has a bloody good time! We will be down tomorrow, and though I hate mentioning the weather everyone needs to keep a weather eye, especially the way the severe weathe has plagued us lately. Here's hoping that we miss out on the bad stuff this time

Well, I won't be making the trip to Rendezvous, but we will be at TRF this year. Depending on how the car repair cost works out, and if I can recover my motel reservation deposit, I might give it one more try on the 21st.

For those who chose to stay home today (Sunday)..... you missed out on some great weather. No rain...stayed nice and cool until about 5:00 when it got COLD for us regimental types.

I hate that I missed out on some great folks this weekend.... but next weekend will come soon enough. I will be there both days..... I LOVE FAIRE ! ! !

Indeed, the weather was near perfect for heavy/noble garb.

We started getting cold about 3 to 4 o'clock at Belly Dance Treasures...I really felt bad for the dancers, and let one borrow my cloak most of the day since I had 2 shirts & a vest on  ::)

I stayed warm most of the time, getting hot tea twice from the bakery...I was just REALLY happy that it did not rain on us except for a few sprinkles the first half hour of the day  :)
Title: Re: Highland Weekend
Post by: Lady Kett on May 02, 2011, 07:09:10 AM
Agreed, all things considered, the weather was great. Looking at the forecast in the morning you'd have thought there would be storms all day long and everyone would be covered in mud. A little sprinkle in the morning and that was it. At least until closing, it was trying to start again, but the power of the cloaks kept it at bay, at least till we got out of Ellis County! :)

Favorite line of the day from the Pub Sing - "Would the last two people in jeans and t-shirts please turn out the lights?"

The PP and I were planning on going Saturday but between a snafu with the current show, and me getting a sinus infection, Saturday didn't end up in the cards.  As for Sunday the PP was dtill wiped from the show before, and I was still feeling poorly. We just didn't make it.  Hopefully, we an make it this Saturday, if not, we will do Sunday, maybe even until the pub sing ;)
