I am waiting on the definite details but as of now Scarby is planning to have a Scotch tasting.
I will pass along the info as soon as I get it.
BAAAAAADDDDD idea.
For me at least... will someone drive me that day puhlease?
I love me some scotch.
Oh I am so there if they do this!
This weekend for Highland Games; it will be at the Friends of Faire area by the Dirty Duck. It should be finalized by tomorrow... I hope....some details still to work out.
;D I am so there....
Call me when they have the Jack Daniels tasting.... ;D
I would like to attend, but the next couple of weekends are out-of-the-question. We may try to make Celtic Music weekend with a faire virgin in tow.
Called the Festival, Still some logistics to work out concerning hard liquor, so it won't be this weekend. I'm guessing it's part of the liquor vs beer serving- Private Club- logistical kind of Nightmare....but they said they are working on it.
Well Damn. I guess I will just have to pick some up on the way out of Houston.

"...the Scotch tasting has been moved back a week. So, yes, we will have one. No, it is not on Highland weekend."
Tune in for our next episode
same bat channel
not necessarily the same bat time.
alright, better late than never ;) any idea how much it will cost per person? (as if price would keep me away from Scotch)
Damn I won't be there that weekend. Well I'll just have to bring a bottle for breakfast this weekend.
Well damn I won't be there that weekend and I do so enjoy scotch.
So we're still planning for this weekend. Today is School Daze at Scarby (and no that's not a spelling error) so I won't hear from Orvis until tomorrow at the earliest.
Keep tuning in. :-*

Indeed today
was School Daze...There was a sea of pre-teens & teenagers :o
But we (The Wings of Isis & Drums of Isis) had a TON of fun teaching them, even if we were extremely worn out after 4 hours of dancing and drumming!
You can quit holding your breath.
"Many details yet to worked out; it will happen before the end of the season"
Oh my... Just got the info. Scotch tasting this weekend. In the garden of the restaurant, at 2 and at 4. Cost is $20.00. Apparently Paul is running the thing.
The Scotch Tasting is a go! Beginning this weekend we will have 2 tastings a day at 2 and 4pm at the Rose and Crown area. Each tasting will feature 4 different scotches. There will be water and accompaniments; fruit, bread, etc. Tickets are $20 a person and can be purchased at the Rose and Crown throughout the day. See you there.

I believe it is a regular (daily) occurrence now ;)
We had the first two tickets! I'm not overly fond of scotch so I thought it was "OK". Entertaining. Two of the scotches got a grade of "not bad" from me (which is high praise LOL). The other two were very smoky and peaty, blech.
Sidekick enjoyed his a bit more. Shared the ones I didn't like with him and other members of the table.
Worth the price of admission. Keep your ticket, it gets you a free dessert!

Not yet- or at least they haven't told the bartender yet. If I find out that it has become a regular weekly thing I'll let you all know.
I think I liked the second one the best and the fourth one had the most burn to it. I got to it late as I was browsing kee's bowshop, So I dunno if they gave a big explanation about each one. Luckily others in my party had gotten me a spot.
I used to drink plenty of whiskey when I was younger so I have no problem drinking scotch just not my preferred drink. I rarely drink whiskey or bourbon anymore. I've had some shots of single malt scotch that put me down for the count though.
I found it fun and informative, I feel a little less like a barbarian now knowing where the diffrent Scotches comes from. Have to say Im definetly a Speyside and Highland Scotch drinker, as the Islay and Campbeltown Scotches were way too peaty and hot for my taste. The company was good, shared a table with Lady Kett and her sidekick (sorry for not properly introducing myself, but thanks for the extra shot ;) ) Overall I thought it was a good deal for $20
OOH! I wish I was there! Lift a wee dram for me- or a big one!
Sigh.

No introduction necessary JM - I recognized you! The best part about the tasting parties is the sharing part. We went to a wine tasting on Sunday for Mother's day and my Prodigal Daughter got mommy a little tipsy by taking a sip of her wine then pouring her taster portion into mine.
On a side note, boy does that jalapeno cheese have a little kick to it or what? Yummy!
Update!
We have moved the times to 12 and 4:30. This weekend Scotch tasting at noon both days, Irish Whiskey at 4:30 both days. Next weekend (Pirate weekend!) we will be doing rum tastings!
Uh... who's driving, Doña? ;D
Not me!
Wheee RUM!
I was waiting for a Jack Daniels tasting party...well, not really. I had one all my own... But, I was thinking of you Kett! Every sip I thought, "Lady Kett would sure like this..." I didn't let it deter me though.
Figures... on a weekend I wont be there... a rum tasting... that's just evil
*just have to see if I can find my own rum to taste... Oh! There it is!*

It's the thought that counts, right Merlin?

Yeah, I hope so, `cuz there's none left for you...
OK...So I talked the lady into taking the keys so i could do this and MAN IT WAS GREAT ! ! !
It was very informative.... had some really good scotchs... 1 that I already knew i disliked but I choked it down anyways.
I HIGHLY recommend this..... it's a very fair price for what you get... $20 for 4 LARGE shots of single malt scotch and some very neat information.
He also gave me a shot of Drambuie (sp) which i had never had.... kind of nice.
Anyhoooos... next week is rum tasting... I really hope my lovely queen will let me do that one ! !
It's not really so much alcohol that you get wasted and I did the 12:00 tasting so it would be walked off by 6pm anyways... I'm just over cautious when it comes to drinking and driving.
Ah! A club I used to gig in used to give me Drambuie with a coffee bean in it. It's been 20 years, so I don't recall if there was anything else in it, but I do remember that I liked it well enough, and chewing the coffee bean would straighten me right up!
We might do the rum next week. I only know two things about rum;
Rum production in the Canary Islands has a long enough history that it might be The Original Rum.
And Pusser's Rum was originally made by the British Navy for its own stores.
