Oy! I hate to be talking about closing weekend already!  We'll watch the weather, thank you. After the 100+ heat last year, don't think I could handle that again.

We're always there. That's the point of having a home faire, yes?! Yeah, I waited to late to try and reserve something. Nothing reasonable nearby, pffft. So you'll just have to make morning tailgate! And bring the toothpaste!! :)

Gauwyn if you come back for closing weekend, it will push MN closer to the top of the list.

We will either be there Saturday and Sunday or Sunday and Monday....gonna watch the weather as Merlin said. Was a scorcher last year, but we'll be there whichever is the best of the two weather days.

Dangit Bonny, do you guys take the last room all the time or what?! Nothing available right now. I will call later in the week.

Who has stayed at the America's Best Value Inn? Pan and Tink did, I think...anyone else? Can anyone give me a quick review? I'm not expecting 5 stars and room service, just clean rooms and reasonably comfy beds to sleep on!

We were at America's Best Value a few weeks ago. The room was clean, bathroom was a little on the small side, but it was usable.  The mattresses were not great, but not the worst I've ever been in, but not great

Are you talking about the place next door?  Some friends stayed there last trip and didn't really have any complaints.

For a place to sleep, it was better than I was expecting.  I wouldnt want to hang out there as my main destination, but its a good place to stay for faire.  The towels and sheets were clean (Pan makes fun of me for checking under the sheets near the foot of the bed, but Im paranoid about bugs), there was a mini-fridge in the room, and the air conditioner worked.  Thats pretty much all I needed.

Lol. Luckily I live close enough so I don't have to stay in a hotel. But I hear ya on being paranoid about bugs in hotels. Especially with all the bed bugs!!

It helps to be old so you can get the AARP discount.  In Waxahachie, Hampton Inn is pretty good, but the prices vary from hell-to-breakfast.  Comfort Suites was interesting...the electronic lock on our door broke and we had to change rooms...and floors, then woke the next morning with the front of the hotel laying in a pile in the parking lot.  Hopefully, neither incident is commonplace.

There's also a Sleep Inn on US77 in Waxahachie—about 10-15 minutes from the faire, and a Comfort Inn in Red Oak, which is no more than 15 minutes or so away.

Well, it doesn't look like we're going to be able to make it down to Scarby for another weekend. I was really hoping we could...and there's still a small chance. Too much is going on at work. Even though we were off this past weekend, I somehow got several days behind on where I'm supposed to be. I don't understand that. BUT! The trip to Colorado for RenDezvous will happen, come hell or high water.  We'll catch up with a lot of you there!

Lady Stitch: You and PP take care of "things." We'll miss you at CoRF, but some things are much more important... Our best to you both.

If anyone is still seeking lodging, we went through Travelocity and got a room in nearby Hillsboro (20-25 min interstate ) at the la Quinta, right next to the interstate and at 66 dollars per night. Decent reviews on it and they also have a hot tub. Anyone is already there or ends up there, drop us a PM, maybe we can pool the ride together. ;D

I hope everyone has a great time during these last weekends of faire!  We will see you all again at TRF and Sherwood!  :-*

Title: BED BUGS at America's Best Value Inn...
Post by: mea_dow on May 24, 2011, 04:54:28 PM
Hi,

I was looking for info about closing weekend at Scarborough and I saw someone ask about America's Best Value Inn.   I wanted to share my experience with America's Best Value Inn from last year's trip to Scarborough and night spent at that lovely establishment...

I woke up with an itch on my ear.    I looked down an their was an adult BED BUG on my pillow.  This is unusual for a lot of reasons. Normally bed bugs don't like light.  It was about 8am and the TV was on.   So plenty of light for it to want to hide and  bed bug bites don't usually can't be felt when they bite.  (Yeah I freaked out and went OCD looking up info on bed bugs after being bitten.)   We looked up what bedbugs looked like from the hotel room on our laptop.   Then the freak-out began.  Our laptop was on the floor under the head of the bed while we slept last night..   OMG our clothes are in an unzipped suitcase on the floor.  So, I called down to the front desk and asked for a LOT of trash bags because my room had BED BUGS!!!   They had a young boy bring me up 3 tiny trash bags!   *sigh*   We packed up as best we could and took the bug down to the front desk.    The lady was extremely rude handling the situation.  It took me 3 1/2 weeks to get my credit card refunded.   About 6-7 phone calls playing phone tag with the owner.  "So sorry he left for the day! Call back tomorrow before this time..."   I would call.  "OH he just left!"   Eventually they refunded my money and sent me a letter with a free night's stay!  (LMFAO!!!!!)   They said they had to do an investigation before they would refund my money.  WTF?  Do I go around to cheapo motels with a bedbug trying to get a free night's stay?  This was after I had left the bed bug with them.
I did a review of my experience on some website I can't remember if it was expedia or hotels.com

I had an allergic reaction to the bed bug bite and have had several "flare up" zit marks behind that ear since that incident with that bed bug.   Disgusting!   We left our laptop outside in a trash bag that we set off a bug bomb inside.   Major pain.  And an extra $20 spent on bug spray for my clothes and car trunk.  (I wasn't taking any chances.)

We are staying again at our new favorite hotel in Duncanville.   Can anyone tell me how much tickets will be for only Sunday and Monday?  Will a weekend pass work?  I know it says Sat/Sun on the website.

Thanks!   :O)

There's a Bed Bug Registry (http://bedbugregistry.com) that you might report this at.

Oh! We were actually working on coming down just for Saturday and Sunday, but Nimue is now home in bed with a respiratory infection. She hasn't felt this bad in a long time. As much as we'd love to see everyone, there's just no way now. Everyone needs to have a good time for us.

You can check Scarbrough's Facebook page for last minute deals on tickets. SRFestival

I haven't heard about anything besides the after 2:30 ticket half price deal.
